DEVELON Introduces the New DX89R-7 Mini Excavator

The DX89R-7 outlifts its predecessor, the DX85R-3, laying the foundations for future success.

DEVELON (formerly Doosan Infracore construction equipment) evolves its compact equipment offering with a stronger machine: the DX89R-7 mini excavator. This next-generation, -7 Series mini excavator is now available in the United States and Canada.

The new DX89R-7 mini excavator replaces the DX85R-3 and packs many of its predecessor’s features with enhancements such as greater lifting capacity and more horsepower. This nimble machine is equipped with a family of products, including a DEVELON engine and diagnostics tool. The mini excavator boasts a reduced-tail-swing feature, permitting more power in cramped, congested worksites.

“The new 9-metric-ton DX89R-7 excavator is a bridge between our smaller mini excavators and our crawler excavators,” says Thomas Lee,

director of product management at DEVELON. “It gives our customers the flexibility of a mini excavator with more power and dig depth they may need without moving up to a larger machine.”

Performance

Like smaller -7 Series mini excavators, the DX89R-7 comes with an innovative platform to improve structural durability and machine robustness. Powered by a Tier 4-compliant D24 diesel engine offering more horsepower, the DX89R-7 provides increased productivity from its predecessor. Auxiliary hydraulic flow remains readily available for operators to use hydraulic-powered attachments with the mini excavator.

An increased machine operating weight and the excavator’s new counterweight design provide better stability for increased lifting capacity. This is particu-

larly useful when using the excavator to lift and place objects such as pipes, boulders or hardscape materials. Traction force is also higher in the new DX89R-7 due to the machine’s higher weight, meaning customers can push material more efficiently with a dozer blade.

The boom swing feature provides more flexibility for DX89R-7 operators. A thumb switch on the left joystick controls the excavator’s boom swing. This can be helpful when operating the excavator in a confined space, when the operator needs to dig next to an existing structure or obstacle.

Customers can configure their new DX89R-7 with an optional long arm. The long arm provides nearly two feet of additional dig depth and reach. This can help reduce machine repositioning and improve cycle time when performing repetitive movements.

Versatility

The new DX89R-7 is a versatile machine that can be paired with attachments, including buckets, quick coupler, and thumb. The quick coupler significantly reduces the time it takes to switch attachments, which can increase the operator productivity and ensure the correct bucket is paired with the digging requirements. Quick coupler piping comes standard for the new DX89R-7 mini excavator.

Excavator owners can further increase the machine’s

versatility by operating with approved attachments, such as augers, hydraulic breakers, plate compactors, rippers, and grapples. Customers can also add an optional second set of hydraulics to operate multifunctional attachments. For example, the secondary auxiliary hydraulics are ideal for using tilt-rotator accessories for mini excavators.

A backfill (dozer) blade levels, backfills, grades and pushes material with ease. To make grading, leveling and backfilling as easy as possible, the blade float feature allows the blade to follow the con-

tours of the ground without operator input.

Operator Comfort

DEVELON’s newest mini excavator will introduce allnew features for operator comfort. The machine offers best-in-class air conditioning and improved vents throughout the cab. DX89R-7 operators will appreciate features such as heated seats and foldup pedals for additional floor space. An open canopy with Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS) is also an available option.

CASE enters burgeoning mini track loader (MTL) market with the introduction of the all-new TL100; focus on premium capabilities and operator experience.

The stand-on mini track loader market is anticipated to grow exponentially over the course of the next ten years as there is greater demand for landscaping, tree removal and other jobs that require traveling over existing lawns and turf without causing damage. CASE Construction Equipment has stepped up to meet industry demand and is further growing the compact equipment market in a powerful way with the introduction of the CASE TL100 mini track loader (MTL). The TL100 features a rated operating capacity of 1,000 pounds (35 percent of tipping load), and will be available with countless attachments and premium features that set it apart from other units in the industry.

At CONEXPO 2023 in Las Vegas, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) unveiled a prototype of its new EC500 crawler excavator.

Volvo CE provided the first look at a pre-production model of its new EC500 excavator at the CONEXPO trade show in Las Vegas, North America. This heralds a new generation of excavator, with improvements across cab design and operator interface, safety and productivity.

A successor to the Volvo EC480E, the EC500 is a new 50-ton crawler excavator for the toughest applications, from building and construction, road construction, utilities, quarrying and aggregates

John Deere showcases new machine offerings in a variety of product categories including new P-Tier small dozers, a large ADT-drawn scraper and P-Tier compact track loader and skid steer loader models.

All models are compatible with laser receivers, helping to control elevation and slope while utilizing a rotating laser. The P-Tier small dozers with EH controls arrive from the factory with EZ Grade features, however, the owner can upgrade to Slope Control or SmartGrade technology in the future, if desired. As an additional tech-forward feature, the new eight-inch touchscreen cab display offers intuitive navigation of slope control and machine settings on EH machines.

Enhancing operator performance and safety, the new P-Tier small dozers feature a variety of strategic design choices aimed to increase visibility and comfort. Boasting a 14% larger cab than previous models, the P-Tier machines offer increased storage space and easier ingress/egress ca-

pabilities. In addition, customers can now proportionally control the blade’s angle and change travel direction through the use of the integrated FNR switch. Impacting operator visibility, the new hood design, straightened and lowered five-inches on 650 P-Tier and seven-inches on the 450 and 550 P-Tier models, helps improve overall forward visibility and straight sightlines to the front of the machine. Also, with the removal of the DEF system, the 450 P-Tier model offers simplified maintenance and reduced system complexity while meeting emissions regulations. Lastly, the optional LED light package and rearview camera options take visibility to the next level, en-

hancing visibility for a more efficient job site.

Designed as an additional method of earthmoving, the John Deere 3812 large scraper, paired with the latest 460 P-Tier articulated dump truck, offers a 38-yard capacity and can be used in push load or top load applications. The 3812 is the first Articulated Dump Truck drawn scraper to enter the John Deere lineup and features scraper controls that fully integrate with the 460 P-Tier ADT to increase productivity and ease of operation. Once the ADT is in scraper mode, the operator simply goes to work as the ADT and Scraper pan are integrated as one seamless machine. Meanwhile, the

ADT automatically optimizes engine torque curves and differential locks, and selects a maximum cut gear to maintain momentum and boost productivity. Further integration includes scraper brakes, Deere encoded cylinders and a scraper pro package that enables pushbutton sequencing, additional cameras, scraper position and productivity feedback to the operator all through the new high-resolution display. Lastly, the hitch and platform design allow conversion between an ADT with a dump bin or pulling a scraper, giving customers the ultimate fleet flexibility and utilization of their equipment.

On the compact front, John Deere is expanding its performance tiering strategy and introducing a new generation of large frame compact track loaders and skid steer loaders. At the show, three of the five machines in this generation will be on display, including the 333 P-Tier and the all-new 334 P-Tier skid steer loader, and 335 P-Tier compact track loader models. These machines boast features like redesigned cabs with creature comforts including heated/vented seats, touchscreen displays, handsfree Bluetooth technology, JDLinkTM telematics, and can be equipped with optional surround view capabilities. The brand new 334 P-Tier and 335 P-Tier are optimized for customers who require more horsepower and hydraulic flow from a compact machine. Boasting 118 gross horsepower in addition to pressure compensated load sensing hydraulics, these machines are smooth, powerful, and ready to take on the most demanding applications. Complementary to these machines, John Deere will also launch two new mulching head attachments, the MK76

and the MH72D. Also making their debut at the show, are the John Deere cold planer attachments powered by Wirtgen cutting technology. Compatible with some current G-series skid steer models, as well as the freshly announced P-Tier skid steer loaders, four widths, including 18, 24, 30 and 40inch sizes, will be available to match customer’s milling needs. Utilizing the expertise from decades of milling technology experience by the Wirtgen Group, these cold planers provide intuitive incab controls, including tilt float activation for seamless pass matching across rolling terrain. Visible indicators for side plate depth, tilt angle and milling drum cut boundary ensure jobsite accuracy, while an optional pressure gauge aids in monitoring milling performance. Also, an optional water tank mounts within the cold planer frame for convenient filling and the nozzle kit effectively suppresses dust. XCMG Machinery Aids Emergency Rescue After Turkey’s Devastating Earthquakes

XCMG Machinery is racing against time to provide emergency assistance to Turkey after two earthquakes struck the region on February 6, the biggest earthquakes in Turkey since 1939.

The XCMG Turkey company is stationed in Ankara, the capital of the country, 700 kilometers from the epicenter. It set up an emergency rescue group immediately following the earthquake led by Liu Jiansen, Vice President of XCMG Machinery and General Manager of XCMG Import & Export Co., Ltd. The group has been keeping in close touch with the frontline and dispatched rescue teams around the clock.

XCMG has approximately 600 units of excavators in Turkey, and XCMG Turkey activated their emergency response protocol immediately and reported the local situation to XCMG headquarters, while coordinating three XCMG excavators that were deployed near Gaziantep to deliver aid in the disaster area.

XCMG Turkey reached out to multiple parties and arranged 12 units of excava-

tors and loaders of different tonnage from close proximity to stand by, while actively answering to the call of the Chinese embassy in Turkey and General Chamber of Commerce of Chinese Enterprises in Turkey (the “Chamber”) to coordinate resources and provide assistance.

On February 7th, a family of three were trapped in a collapsed three-story building in Iskenderun, Hatay Province. XCMG sent out an excavator immediately for the rescue mission, in eight hours nonstop, operator Kerim Cesur removed the collapsed floor, bricks and rebars with caution and successfully saved the family.

On February 8, an XCMG rescue team traveled 20 hours to Kırıkhan, Hatay, one of the most remote regions where the roads were seriously damaged by the earthquake, with freezing rain in low tempera-

Komatsu’s Chattanooga Manufacturing Facility Begins Production Of HM400-5 Articulated Trucks

One of Komatsu’s HM400-5 articulated haul trucks, recently produced at the company’s Chattanooga Manufacturing Operation.

To support growing demand, Komatsu has begun producing the company’s HM400-5 articulated haul trucks at its factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee. While the trucks were produced in Chattanooga in the mid2000s, in 2009 production shifted to the company’s plant in Ibaraki, Japan, where it has remained until now.

Used primarily in construction, quarry and mining applications, the 473-HP HM400-5 is designed to move material across challenging terrain while delivering productive, consistent performance for operators of all experience levels. To celebrate the new production line, Komatsu and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) hosted U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann along

with other local and state officials for a launch event at the company’s Chattanooga plant.

“For years, Komatsu has been a proud member of our Chattanooga-area community, providing hundreds of good-paying jobs and generating a massive economic impact for Chattanooga and Tennessee,” said Rep. Fleischmann. “Bringing back production of Komatsu’s HM400-5 trucks is another sign of our strong local workforce and shows the confidence business leaders have in Chattanooga’s economy and our values of hard work, low taxes, and free enterprise.

I am excited that Komatsu is expanding their operations here in Chattanooga and investing in our community.”

Production of the truck has already driven an increase in Komatsu’s spend with local and regional suppliers. Additionally, the new line will offer more opportunities for area students to gain experience in manufacturing. Komatsu’s Chattanooga plant currently has a pre-apprenticeship program that employs high school seniors part-time, allowing them to earn credits toward a full apprenticeship certification through Chattanooga State Community College.

“We have seen the demand for our HM400-5 trucks grow significantly in both the U.S.

In addition to the HM4005 trucks, the plant produces midsize hydraulic excavators and intelligent excavators, as well as some machines for the forestry market. Rokbak RS30s Rock Mega US Pipeline Project

Two Rokbak RA30s are proving vital to the largest ever pipe installation of its kind in Utah, America.

When Utah-based contractor BHI was awarded low bid on a three-mile stretch of canal essential to the irrigation around the largest city in Uintah County, in the northeastern part of the state, they knew that extensive excavation and backfill would be on the cards and that it would require the most robust and reliable equipment.

A hive of activity in the Beehive State

BHI has been tasked by Uintah Water Conservancy District to enclose a 78” HighDensity Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe across a vast portion of the Steinaker Service Canal near the city of Vernal. Owing to a water shortage over the past several years, the Uintah Water Conservancy District has been working to improve provision to the surrounding area, with the Steinaker Service Canal Enclosure Project. The existing channel is being converted into a pressurised pipeline to provide a firm water supply to land in the surrounding Ashley Valley, with the aim to minimise and even eliminate loss of water through seepage and evaporation, maximising the amount of water available for irrigation purposes. Upon completion, the canal enclosure will be the largest diameter HDPE pipe installation in the United States of America.

BHI is self-performing the entire scope of the project, which includes site preparations, excavation, pipe installation, back-fill and restoration of the canal. To handle

the large-scale earth-moving, BHI needed articulated haulers that would be up to the challenge, day after day, in an intense six-month timeline.

Rokbak dealer Rasmussen Equipment, of Salt Lake City, supplied two RA30s to BHI on a rental-purchase option in September 2022. The haulers were received so positively on site that the purchase was completed before the end of the year.

The RA30s are tasked with transporting rock and rubble to excavate the area in order to install the pipe, later they will support with the subsequent backfill. With the capacity to transport a payload of up to 28 mt (30.9 t), a maximum engine power of 276 kW (370 hp), a heaped capacity of 17.5m3 (22.9yd3), and a maximum torque of 1880 Nm @ 1400 rpm, the Rokbak RA30 can be relied upon to all-weather-operate, transporting loads effectively and efficiently, with optimal traction in difficult terrain and combating steep inclines with ease.

“The RA30 is a top-performing machine,” says BHI operator Reese Shultz, who has already clocked up over 2,000 hours alongside colleague Dustin Gardner in the two RA30s since work commenced in September. “It’s fuel efficient, powerful and with features like the tailgate helping to maximise load retainage as well as multiple reverse gears enabling quick cycle times, it’s been designed for productivity. It also has excellent mobility, it’s relatively narrow (10ft 6in at its

“One of the first things I noticed when I started using the RA30 was that it has proper visibility, from a comfy seat, in a quiet cab and the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system works really well,” explains Dustin. “It’s a real solid ride and it’s comfortable to operate over various ground conditions.”

It’s not hard to see why. Cushioned bump stops on the steering cylinders reduce strain on the operator over an extensive shift and a 45° steering angle at either side creates a turning radius of just 27ft 9in (8,470 mm), resulting in superior manoeuvrability. There is a spacious, ROPS/ FOPS-compliant, pressurised cab. Smoother gear shifting accentuates these levels of comfort, alongside other benefits like faster cycle times, lower fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions.

With the HC series, Hamm is bringing together all compactors with an operating weight of 24,251–55,116 lbs (11–25 t) on a single platform. The engine power levels are between 85 and 160 kW; their emissions comply with the respective regional requirements. Thanks to an integrated ECO-Mode, the rollers work in the economical partialload range for most of the time. With over 20% increased tread, around 30% increased space, and more storage compartments, the Easy Drive cabs are more comfortable than ever. Many options are available for all models – from the au-

tomatic engine stop through to the dozer blade. Thanks to numerous interfaces, the compactors in the HC series are “digital-ready”, in other words, they are ready to be used in an extremely wide range of tools, including the Smart Doc app. In addition to the variants that were hitherto available on the market, in the future, there will also be CR machines with specially reinforced equipment for use on rocky

ground and on difficult terrain.

HC CompactLine series –another premiere for North America

In the segment for small compactors (11,023–15,432 lbs, 5–7 t), Hamm is showcasing the HC CompactLine series. In contrast to the predecessor models, Hamm has further improved the driving comfort, and has increased the traction and

gradeability. The HC 70i model is still the most compact roller in the 7 t class on the market. Various digital tools are available for all HC CompactLine models, in particular the Smart Doc app. It supports GNSSbased self-monitoring and documentation.

app shows in real-time how the compaction develops, and links the machine data to GNSS position data. The app creates clear compaction results in PDF format. They are suitable for self-monitoring as well as for documentation with respect to clients. No separate monitor is required to operate the app. It works simply via standard Android smartphones or tablets. In the 2023 asphalt season, M2M (machine to machine) communication and M2C (machine to cloud) communication will also play a role.

World premiere: HP 100i articulated pneumatic-tire roller

With the HP 100i articulated pneumatic-tire roller, Hamm presented a world premiere at the Conexpo/CON-AGG. The base weight of the

roller is 13,228 lbs (6 t) and can be increased to up to 22,046 lbs (10 t) using different ballast kits. With five wheels on the front axle and four wheels on the rear axle, the new pneumatic-tire roller has a working width of 68” (1725 mm).

The generous overlap of the tire tracks results in homogeneous compaction. At the same time, the 3-point articulated joint ensures high maneuverability. The roller is ideal for applications such as chipseal and asphalt compaction on smaller construction sites.

A water-sprinkling system and various scrapers can be integrated on request. The speed can be adjusted safely and conveniently directly at the driving lever. Clever speed control depending on the steering angle means that the roller can always be maneuvered safely through curves despite the extremely high final speed.

Brand new for asphalt construction: Pivot-steered tandem rollers in the HX series

The HX series is the new flagship from Hamm for asphalt construction. The pivot-steered tandem rollers 15,432 (7 t) or 19,842 (9 t) are following in the footsteps of the DV+ series and are designed for highquality compaction. There are models with split and non-split vibration and oscillation drums, as well as combination rollers. A key component of the well-conceived compaction technology is the integrated automatic reversing: It brakes and accelerates the rollers quickly, but smoothly. The electrically adjustable seat operating unit, which automatically turns to the direction of travel when reversing, is unique on the market. The excellent visibility also contributes to the quality –including a window in the cab floor for a view of the drums.

Trade show premiere: HTC trench rollers

The HTC 15 articulated trench roller for compaction in trenches is new to the Hamm range. It is equipped with two 32” (80 cm) wide padfoot drums, making it perfect for compacting cohesive soils. It is operated via infrared remote control. This brings several advantages: On the one hand, the roller stops as soon as the operator no longer has a line of sight. On the other hand, the signal transmission via

infrared does not interfere with other radio links on the construction site. The low center of gravity of the 3307 lbs (1.5 t) roller ensures an extremely low tendency to tip.

HD+120i VIO-2 HF tandem roller

The HD+ 120i VIO2 HF articulated tandem roller is also new. Hamm is therefore opening up new possibilities, since it is equipped with two com -

pletely maintenance-free VIO drums. Both drums can work with vibration or with oscillation; this can be switched from the driver’s seat. Furthermore, Hamm has developed a special automatic vibration sys -

tem for this machine. The front drum in the direction of travel always operates in vibration mode, while the rear drum operates in oscillation mode; when reversing, the drums are switched automatically.

This results in high compaction power – but operation always remains simple. These 26,455 lbs (12 t) machines compact at a high frequency (> 4000 VPM). As a result, they produce homogeneous asphalt sur -

CASE Shakes Up Backhoe Market with Five All-New Models

CASE Construction Equipment is bringing back the iconic “Construction King” name and releasing five new backhoe loader models to the North American market to deliver more comprehensive and diverse backhoe options to businesses across a broader spectrum of markets, including landscaping, rental, ag and utilities.

Two models are available immediately: the CASE Utility Plus and the CASE 580SV Construction King center pivot. Three additional models will hit CASE dealers later in 2023: The CASE 580SV Construction King side shift, and two CASE 695SV Construction King models — one with center pivot and one with side shift.

“The CASE backhoe was the original two-in-one machine, and 65 years later we’re

experiencing workforce challenges and more diverse jobsite needs — all with a focus on efficiency — that is driving a true revolution for the backhoe market,” says George MacIntyre, product manager, CASE Construction Equipment. “Once the hero for the owner/operator, we’re providing even more backhoe loader options now that make these machines extremely attractive for businesses who are having trouble finding

skilled operators, and who could benefit from the lower owning and operating costs of having all that functionality in a single machine.”

The two new models now available in the North American market — adding to the existing lineup of CASE N Series backhoes — are the CASE Utility Plus and the CASE 580SV Construction King center pivot.

The all-new CASE Utility Plus delivers full-sized

backhoe performance in an efficient platform that’s easy to own, easy to maintain, and easy on the bottom line. This new 74 horsepower machine delivers a big cab with excellent sightlines to all work areas, extreme ease of service with a maintenance-free emissions system (no DPF and no DEF), and easy controls (including a choice of pilot or mechanical). Mechanical controls are offered for the more experienced operators who like that traditional backhoe “feel”, while pilot controls are available for rental businesses and contractors with less-experienced operators.

“You could call this an entry-level machine — but it performs and delivers options like a full-sized backhoe,” says MacIntyre. “We’ve built it so that you can focus on simplicity, ideal for rental applications and businesses where this isn’t a daily production tool, but also committed to options such as the Extendahoe and attachment performance via one-way auxiliary hydraulics on the dipper for businesses that want to use this machine for more. It’s built to be versatile and allow equipment owners to build up from a simple base model.”

The all-new CASE 580SV Construction King brings a tool carrier-style front end back to the CASE backhoe line in North America, ideal for businesses who use the loader end of their backhoe as a primary material handler – loading and unloading pallets, moving pipe and other bundled material around the yard. Adding a 4-in-1 bucket, a 6-in-1 bucket, or any of the countless attachments available for CASE backhoes turns this into a robust multi-purpose jobsite solution — and a hydraulic quick coupler makes it easy. The new center pivot model is immediately available to the North American market, and CASE will be rolling out a side-shift model later in 2023.

“At 97 horsepower, the CASE 580SV Construction King is a simple yet robust addition to any backhoe fleet and, like the Utility Plus, can be optioned up into a more premium backhoe experience with features such as the Extendahoe and Auto-Ride Control,” says MacIntyre.

The new side-shift model, available later in 2023, will

deliver even greater jobsite flexibility and performance in confined spaces. The CASE 580SV Construction King side shift will feature in-line vertical stabilizers for offset digging and working in applications where operators have to get right up against structures, or take up less space (such as in roadside utility work).

“The combination of inline stabilizers and a backhoe digging boom that can shift from side to side allows operators to get right up against buildings and structures, and takes up even less space on roadside applications with stabilizers that operate within the footprint of the machine,” explains MacIntryre.

“With the introduction of these new machines, matched with our existing lineup of N Series backhoes, we’re delivering a truly diverse backhoe portfolio of machines for contractors and businesses of all sizes in North America.”

models — a center-pivot model and a side-shift model. The 695SV Construction King is a larger, more powerful backhoe loader with four-wheel steer and equally sized tires. John Deere Unveils New Excavator Models

Building upon its long-standing legacy of delivering innovative technology and machines for its customers, John Deere displayed a variety of new and updated excavator models, highlighted by the new 85 P-Tier and 510 P-Tier current generation excavators, at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023.

In addition to these new model updates, John Deere also unveiled the first look at their all-new future generation excavators. Both types of updates are examples of how John Deere can leverage technology from across the enterprise to extend advanced features and smart solutions to its full line-up of John Deere excavators, helping to revolutionize the portfolio and deliver the John Deere customer experience.

Compared to the 85 GTier model, the new 85 P-Tier boasts an 18% engine horsepower increase and the addition of a turbo for high altitude performance. Hydraulic performance improvements include increased pump torque and improved dig forces. The larger, redesigned cab is equipped with an eightinch monitor with Bluetooth and a 270-degree camera system integrated into the main monitor. Improved service access and optional features, such as angle blade with float and continuous flow auxiliary hydraulics, round out the updates that improve the performance and versatility of the 85 P-Tier machine.

Coming in at 51-metric tons, the 510 P-Tier is a replacement of the current 470 P-Tier model. Including a variable undercarriage and the ability to handle buckets five yards and above, this new model will continue to deliver

exceptional performance and capability in its class, while specifically targeting customer enhancements in operating costs and reliability. By using a more efficient powertrain, including the integration of E-fans, this new model provides customers up to 25% lower maintenance costs, 15% lower repair costs and 20% lower fuel consumption. The New Cat 352 Straight Boom Excavator Excels In Industrial Demolition Work

Built rugged for reliable operation in demanding applications, the new Cat® 352 Straight Boom Excavator is designed specifically for low-level demolition work up to five stories high, bridges and industrial infrastructures.

Its stick/boom configuration delivers a higher vertical reach up to 12.85 m (42’2”), 36% more stick pin height compared to the standard 352 Reach configuration. Working with up to a 6000kg (13,228-lb) attachment weight, the new 352 Straight Boom now features standard Cat technologies for increased versatility, precision and efficiency in both demolition and excavating applications.

The excavator’s new optional 11.35-tonne (25,022lb) removable counterweight design increases transportation efficiency and lowers transportation costs. The mechanical variable gauge undercarriage has a 2990 mm (9’10”) transportation width when needed and extends 500 mm (19,7”) in working mode for maximum stability

all around. Its new high-efficiency hydraulic fan features standard automatic reverse to keep the cores free from debris and reduce maintenance time.

Simple, safe and reliable operation

Designed for demolition, the 352 Straight Boom features reinforced booms, sticks and frame, increasing machine durability. Standard Falling Object Guards (FOGS) protect the roof and front reinforced P5A laminated windows from falling debris during demolition, while helping to maintain visibility of the jobsite. Sloped to prevent mud and debris accumulation, the track frame design helps to reduce track damage, while sealed track pins and bushings reduce travel noise

and help to increase undercarriage life. Full track guiding guard is also a standard feature.

Its Operator ID function offers push-button engine starting and programmable joystick functions that are remembered when the operator enters their unique ID. Standard Cat Stick Steer simplifies excavator movements with single-hand and push-button operation of travel and turning. Offering automatic power increase when needed, standard auto dig boost delivers better bucket penetration, shorter cycle times and greater payloads. Auto heavy lift offers more lifting power when needed for as long as needed. Cat Lift Assist makes the operator aware that the load is within the excavator’s safe working range to avoid tipping.

Standard Cat technologies to elevate operating efficiency include Cat Grade with 2D that displays depth and slope on the in-cab 254-mm (10-in) touchscreen monitor. When excavating, Cat Payload offers real-time, onboard weight estimates to help achieve precise load targets. Payload can be combined with VisionLink® for remote management of production targets, while Cat Product Link provides critical machine operating data like location, hours, fuel usage, productivity and diagnostic codes to help increase jobsite efficiency and lower costs.

hp) Cat C13B engine. Standard quick coupler, medium and high-pressure circuits increase operating versatility for using a variety of Cat demolition attachments. Three engine power modes – Smart, Power and Eco – help to match engine and hydraulic power to the task at hand to further reduce fuel consumption and costs.

Easy maintenance

Harnessing technology, the new Cat 352 Straight Boom Excavator now offers remote diagnostics and updating capabilities. Remote Troubleshoot allows the dealer to diagnose fault codes and machine issues remotely without interrupting the production cycle. Remote Flash allows software updates to be pushed out to the machine

and installed at a time convenient for the customer.

Grouped together for simplified maintenance, all fuel filters now feature an extended, synchronized 1,000-hour change interval. Combined, these features help to lower long-term owning and operating costs.

Long-life fuel, oil and air filters reduce excavator time in the shop, and hydraulic oil checks and fuel system purging of water are done from ground level. The operator can easily track filter life and maintenance intervals from inside the cab. The updated hydraulic system improves filtration performance, while anti-drain valves help keep the hydraulic oil clean when replacing the filter. SP

An upgrade is now released for the Epiroc tophammer surface drill rig SmartROC T45, further reducing emissions and boosting productivity while providing valuable data through Smart technology and enhanced automation.

The updated model, optimized for quarrying and construction, includes several new features and options and will be available to order for all markets from May 2023.

The SmartROC T45 is designed for fuel efficiency and productivity. The larger capacity and performance of the rig allows for maximized production, and fuel costs are dramatically reduced through only using the energy needed for the work at hand. Furthermore, Epiroc’s Smart technology provides valuable data to help manage and optimize workflow — the SmartROC T45 includes digital features which help to ensure that drilling always goes as planned.

“Efficiency is at the heart of the SmartROC T45,” says Ulf Gyllander, Global Product Manager at Epiroc. “More uptime means more drilling and using less fuel equals further cost savings. Additionally, energy consumption is further reduced thanks to a hydraulic system which is optimized to deliver just the amount of oil needed. These features help reduce the environmental footprint and contributes to a better work environment for the operator. CASE Launches Two New Electrified Mini Excavators

With mini excavator demand continuing to grow exponentially year-over-year (more than 400 percent overall since 2011), and strong demand in sectors like landscaping and underground utilities, CASE Construction Equipment is developing one of the industry’s most diverse and comprehensive mini excavator lineups.

This includes the launch of two all-new electrified mini excavators and a new dieselpowered mini excavator, and more models scheduled to hit the North American market in 2024. Each of these machines complements the existing C Series mini excavators — giving CASE one of the industry’s most diverse and robust product offerings ranging from 1.5 to 6 metric tons.

“Electric to diesel, true zero to conventional tailswing, cab to canopy, CASE now offers a full range of mini excavators to match any need and operator preference — including the ability to access any construction or landscaping site,” says Brad Mace, product manager, CASE Construction Equipment. “Each machine is built with premium features and performance that empower the operator to succeed in the types of jobsites and environments they work in — whether that’s utility work indoors that requires a zero emissions machine, or production-level trenching on a commercial development.”

CASE Enters Electrified Mini Excavator Market in a Big Way with Two New Models

Anchoring the new mini excavator launch for CASE is the introduction of two allnew electrified machines, the CX15EV and the CX25EV.

The CX15EV is rolling in to CASE dealers now, and the CX25EV will be available later in 2023. The CX15EV is a 3,186-pound mini excavator powered by a 21 horsepower/16 kW electric motor — and the CX25EV is a 4,828-pound mini excavator running with a 27 horsepower/20 kW electric motor. The lithium-ion battery featured in both machines is charged either by the 110V/220V onboard charger, or via an external rapid charger that can have the machine charged extremely fast, typically within 90 minutes. Depending on the type of work, the CASE CX15 EV and CX25 EV will provide enough power to work through a full eighthour day. All while delivering the core benefits of electrified construction equipment: no emissions, reduced noise, and less lifetime maintenance thanks to the elimination of the diesel engine.

“Mini excavators are ideal

for electrification because they go through varied work cycles throughout the day,” says Mace. “Between access to power and the fast charging capabilities of the machine with both on-board and external technologies, these machines deliver excellent runtimes and are sure to be ready to take on any task.”

CASE is proving that both mini excavators and electrified machines can still deliver the same premium operator-first experience as larger equipment. That operator experience starts with a standard color LCD monitor that delivers easy access to battery information, machine settings and work modes. It also features an electronic pattern changer (for switching between ISO and SAE patterns) and customizable hydraulic proportional controls and auxiliary hydraulics to let the operator dial that machine in to their preferences.

Each machine features three work modes that match electric motor speed to the task you’re doing — Power, Standard and Economy — as well as the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the controls to really let the operator con-

trol the feel and performance of the machine. This can be done through one of three presets (Precision, Normal or Productivity), or an “Individual” setting that allows the operator to select specific responsiveness for six different bucket and boom actions, as well as swing, travel and blade functions. A load-sensing hydraulic system further delivers smooth and powerful performance that allows the operator to dial the machine in to each task.

“Our focus is on delivering a complete operator experience, even in some of the smallest machines we manufacture — and that attention to detail and operator satisfaction is built into each one of these battery powered units,” says Mace. “Another area where we’ve showcased this is in the ability of these electrical units as attachment platforms.”

Both machines feature standard 1-way/2-way hydraulics with an electronic detent hold to reduce operator fatigue, and an optional 2nd auxiliary circuit (2-way only) can be added for more hydraulic options. The new LCD monitor allows flow set-

tings to be set and stored for up to five attachments for convenience and confidence when switching between attachments. An optional quick coupler further makes switching attachments quick and easy.

CASE is also focusing on connectivity with these new electrified mini excavators, making SiteWatch telematics standard on each machine for optimal visibility into machine performance, and greater collaborative fleet management with the local CASE dealer. And each model can be outfitted with precision construction technologies to further improve productivity and digging quality.

“These are full-featured, fully electric powerhouses built for work in all environments and operations, and operators will recognize that quality when they sit at the controls and dig in,” says Mace.

New D Series Mini Excavators Hit Key Weight Classes with Premium Features; More to Come

CASE is also launching a new diesel-powered, true zero tailswing mini excavator to

the market: the CX42D. This is the first model of the new CASE D Series and complements the existing C Series product line, giving CASE a broader reach into core weight classes that are in high industry demand.

“The CX42D exists in a critical industry weight class between four and five metric tons that we did not previously have machines,” says Mace. “This ensures that we have a total fleet of solutions to deliver to contractors and business owners, and allows us to bring the next level of premium mini excavator performance to the market.”

Additional CASE D Series mini excavators will be introduced in 2024.

New DEVELON Tool Carriers Now Available In North America

Terex Charters Vessel To Ship 30 Machines From UK To Australia

Terex—a global manufacturer of materials processing machinery and aerial work platforms—in cooperation with DHL Global Forwarding’s Industrial Projects division has successfully chartered a vessel to convey a consignment of 30 Powerscreen®, Finlay® and Terex Ecotec machines from Southampton, UK to Brisbane, Australia.

In what has been a mammoth, first-of-its-kind practice for Terex, the successful charter was to ensure customers get their machines in these times of logistical and supply chain delays.

Claire Hamilton, Category Director - Metal Fabrications & Logistics, Terex Supply Management and Transport, said, “Towards the end of last year, our RORO (rollon/roll-off) capacity to Australia was suspended due to port congestion, backlog due to COVID, and increased global demand. Vessels were overbooked and backlog was not reducing. While we were provided with an allocation of slots, this did not meet the de-

mand for our products.

We decided to research alternative options for getting our equipment to our Australian customers, which was a huge undertaking. Our equipment varies in size and weight and not only is lifting them on, and off vessels difficult, safety of doing so is always our top priority. After exploring various options, we found a solution that enabled our machines to be tracked and secured onto a platform, which would be lifted by cranes and lowered into the hull of the ship.”

Prior to loading, the Terex Sourcing and Supply team worked with various stakeholders—including safety,

engineering, logistics, operations teams within Terex, as well as external transport and shipping providers— with biweekly meetings to plan every detail. Specific engineering information was provided for each machine, and dates agreed among all parties for getting machines to port. In total, 30 Terex machines weighing 1,092mtons / 5,012cbm were delivered to the Port of Southampton.

Even when at the port, support was provided to transfer the machines from storage to dockside, providing solutions as problems occurred, with Terex service engineers checking machines prior to loading and supporting stevedores at the dockside and on the vessel. Loading to the vessel was performed by tandem lift operation of the ship’s cranes and lifting platform. Embarkation and disembarkation to and from the ramp was undertaken using ramps on the quayside and in the ship’s hold. In total, it took eight days for all 30 machines to be safely loaded to the vessel.

Claire summarises, “From the planning stages right through to the enormous operation of loading our equipment onto the vessel, all stakeholders worked proactively to ensure that our 30 machines were loaded safely to the vessel with no incidents or accidents. It was a huge undertaking—constant collaboration between internal and external parties, working as a team, was a key contributor to success.”

The machines are currently enroute and expected to arrive in Australia in early March. SP

The charging port on the Electric Broom Bear is a standard SAE J1772 CCS, compatible with both level 2 or level 3 chargers. Level 2 AC charging will enable overnight charging while Level 3 DC-DC charging will enable fast charging, if needed.

Developed specifically for vocational use, the electric chassis is from Battle Motors, formerly Crane Carrier Company, which has a 75 year history of providing heavy duty trucks and has an extensive and highly trained dealer network for service and support. The additional weight of the electric chassis was taken into consideration

when developing the Electric Broom Bear, and customers can rest at ease knowing the payload capacity is the same as a standard Broom Bear. As with all of its diesel and CNG truck-mounted sweepers, Elgin customers will be able to choose electric chassis from other major chassis OEMs when they meet the performance and aftermarket support needs of its customers.

The Electric Broom Bear joins the Broom Bear family, which includes the single-engine Broom Bear and Hybrid Broom Bear; both of which are available with either a diesel or CNG engine. As part of the Broom Bear family, the Electric Broom Bear will deliver the same durability and ease of service customers have come to expect from Elgin’s line of sweepers. It will also

Takeuchi Introduces New TB350R

Short Tail Swing Excavator

Takeuchi has expanded its TB300 Series excavator product line with the new TB350R short tail swing compact excavator, the first short tail swing model in the manufacturer’s five-ton class.

The TB350R has a rear swing overhang of just 2.95”, allowing operators to focus more on their work and worry less about rear-swing impacts.

“Takeuchi continues to design and build excavators that deliver a unique combination of performance, durability, operator comfort and serviceability,” said David Caldwell, national product manager for Takeuchi-US. “As a result, our new TB350R offers many improvements that demonstrate our commitment to providing customers with advanced technology that helps them be more comfortable and productive.”

The TB350R weighs 10,980 lb. in canopy configuration and 11,235 lb. when equipped with a cab. It is powered by a Kubota V2607-CRE5B diesel engine that is U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final compliant and delivers 41.7 net hp (ISO 9249/SAE1349) and more

than 130.2 ft-lb of torque. A four-pump hydraulic system delivers smooth, harmonized control of the work equipment. The TB350R provides a bucket breakout force of 10,431 lb., a traction force of 12,320 lb., and a maximum dig depth of 11’ 8.8”.

Both canopy and cab configurations are equipped with a primary auxiliary circuit plumbed to mid-arm. The cab model also includes a dedicated coupler circuit operated by controls located inside the cab. The primary auxiliary circuit delivers 24.6 gpm at 2,990 psi, making it capable of utilizing a wide range of hydraulically driven attachments.

To improve the operator’s experience, Takeuchi completely redesigned the TB350R’s interior. The excavator’s canopy configuration includes a 4.3” high-definition, multifunction color monitor, while the cab model

has an easy-to-view, 7” touchscreen, multifunction color monitor with integrated air conditioner and radio functions. For enhanced operator comfort, the excavators feature a deluxe, high-back, six-way-adjustable suspension seat, adjustable arm rests, low-effort pilot controls, large flat floor area and integrated footrests. An intuitive jog dial on the cab model provides operators with easy navigation and control of the multifunction monitor and other machine functions. Simple, one-touch control switches activate machine functions such as work lights, wiper, washer, ECO mode, 1st auxiliary circuit detent and lift overload alarm.

“When maintenance and service work are fast and easy to perform on a machine, it’s more likely that they’ll be done correctly and at the right intervals,” Caldwell said. “That’s why we designed the

TB350R with a wide-opening rear engine service door and a right-side cover that opens overhead for quick access to key daily inspection points.”

Takeuchi’s Fleet Management (TFM) telematics system comes standard on the TB350R. TFM reduces downtime and controls costs by providing owner/operators with machine health and condition, run time (hours) and machine location, as well

as remote diagnostics, scheduled maintenance reminders and customizable alert settings. TFM also gives owners the ability to geofence their machines, helping them protect and secure their investments. TFM access is free during the two-year standard warranty period. Additional coverage is included free with extended warranty plans, and owners can also purchase it separately.

Large-scale enhancements have been made to the 750M and 850M dozers, including new electrohydraulic control performance that allows the operator to set steering and shuttle settings to smooth, moderate or aggressive to better dial that machine into the preferences of the operator while simultaneously reducing operator fatigue. CASE Universal Machine Control is now also available with these machines, which allows them to be outfitted with machine control solutions from any of the three major suppliers of precision construction technology. Each dozer is also available with factory fit solutions from Leica Geosystems that simplify the ordering and setup process.

Another major CASE introduction at CONEXPO is CASE TrackCare, an undercarriage monitoring program performed by CASE dealers for all makes, models and types of steel-tracked equipment that uses both ultrasonic and traditional undercarriage measuring tools to centralize, analyze and report out on undercarriage health and performance.

CASE TrackCare matches a cloud-based system with a mobile app to collect undercarriage measurements and observations in the field and formulate this data into actionable information. This enables business owners and fleet managers to plan maintenance activities, monitor performance and make decisions to help manage the performance and costs of an undercarriage, which is often more than 50 percent of the lifetime maintenance costs of the machine.

Next morning at Tyee Spit, there was Clayton Abbott my neighbour and school mate from Painter-Barclay Subdivision. He was going to be hook-tending and with him was a guy named Fred who would be the rigging slinger no choker man. One other guy — Gordie Ludlow — was the spar operator.

Into Cox’s plane and into Fanny Bay on the left hand side of Phillips Arm. Jeff, one of the Cox sons, met us there. “Get your gear on and we’ll head up the hill and get started,” Jeff said.

We went up the hill to the setting. It wasn’t too far; the tower was still set up from last year. We were logging a side hill, coming down towards the road. We had to keep the road open because of fallers

and others working up past us. To do this, we had to pile logs on the twenty foot bank, I had to stay up on the bank to unhook the chokers. Sometimes, logs or chunks would get on the road. The ones I couldn’t get with the straw line I had to tag the chokers together.

One day Pat, one of the fallers, got hurt pretty bad. He had fell a fair sized hemlock into a cedar snag which slabbed with one of the pieces hitting him in the back. It took a fair amount of time to get him to camp and the waiting plane.

On the weekend the fallers went to town so we were allowed to pile on the road. Then the loader showed up, an Insley rubber tired, chain drive line loader. When we got a load he would clean the road off and put a load on the “Euclid” logging truck.

He noticed that he had broken one of the drive chains on the wheels, while idling down to get it, the other chain on the same side broke and away the loader went, he jumped out and over the bank went the loader! We heard the crash and wondered if he got out, then we could see him standing there looking over the bank.

Dale, the other Cox brother in charge of mechanics showed up and asked, “What are you looking over the bank for?” “Well,” Clayton said, “there’s nothing to see on the road, ha, ha, ha!”

Hiab, part of Cargotec, launches EFFER iQ.950 HP, a 90 tonnes metre (tm) heavy range loader crane with the V12Power boom profile and the new advanced operating system SPACEevo.

What are the main issues common to all mining sites?

The management of the extracted material, the processing waste and the economic performance of the material itself.

With MB Crusher equipment installed on the heavy equipment already present at the quarry, systematic waste recovery becomes a source of profit for the company. Also bearing in mind that with the recent increase in demand for raw materials and the consequent rise in prices, many companies have realized that they are sitting on a large profit pile.

In particular, the growing interest in ‘recyclates’ in the aggregates market has led many companies to recover their quarry waste and process it appropriately. The reuse of these materials brings an economic advantage to

operators in the sector and a major environmental benefit, as it implies less exploitation of quarry deposits, thus saving non-renewable natural resources.

In fact, the waste material finds new life in various areas of application: aggregates for concrete, granular mixes for fillings and embankments, aggregates for railway ballast, boulders for reefs, waterproofing material for landfill sub-bases, stabilized mixes, bituminous conglomerates, production of high-density concrete, to be used for works such as, for example, wind turbine blade foundations or other strategic infrastructures.

All this becomes easier and more profitable if the material is processed with MB Crusher equipment, directly on site, with the only help of the machines already present at the quarry.

With the combo of two MB Crusher units - a BF80.3 Crusher Bucket and an MBS10 Screening Bucket - a Puerto Rican company has succeeded in producing gravel on its own for reuse on its construction sites. The two pieces of equipment process quarry waste material to mainly produce subgrade material: the crusher bucket crushes the coarser stones and with the screening bucket the material is cleaned for better quality. This saves them a lot of time and money because they produce the material themselves and do not have to buy it from other suppliers.

By using an MB-S18 screening bucket installed on a Kobelco excavator, an Indian company was able to optimize its processing time and procure the material to be used for cement production. The screening bucket selects the material directly on a truck, without the need for any other means. A quick and easy operation done directly on site.

The higher the quality of the material, the more it gains in value and the more the company gains. But in order to have real benefits, it is necessary to process the material by optimizing time and resources. This is what a Peruvian mining company did in its huge gypsum quarry. It installed an MB Crusher bucket to its excavator and crushed the material to the grain size required by the customer. SP

Developing Waste Cassettes

The tiltrotator system allows for a range of different attachments, including the option to connect a waste cassette. This is something that has been well received by customers who have requested

several sizes with the same characteristics as the existing waste cassettes in the range. Now, there is also a removable waste cassette in the tonnage 4-6 adapted for S40 attachment. With engcon’s tool mounts, it is prepared for both removable grapple cassettes and removable sweep cassettes. Another improvement is that all our detachable brooms are delivered with a narrow brush set that has been developed for use in, for example, house drainage, cable digging or other hardto-reach surfaces.

OVIN And FBCL To Improve Cross-Border Transportation

MOU signed to explore moving people and goods across border

To respond to the evolving needs of Ontario’s automotive and mobility ecosystem the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN), through the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI) and The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) will work closely to identify synergies to improve the movement of people and goods across borders. This collaboration will also address the need to identify, pilot, and adopt new technologies and solutions across the sectors.

OVIN, through OCI and the FBCL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their collaboration. The MOU will explore opportunities to help people and goods move safely and efficiently across the border by leveraging innovative automotive and mobility technologies.

Ontario and the U.S. share a border that facilitates the

most significant international cross-border trading relationship in North America. This border is not only critical to supply chains and goods on both sides, but it is also part of the daily lives of the people that live in border communities.

“Through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, our government is helping develop and deploy new technologies and solutions across the automotive and mobility sectors,” said Vic Fedeli, Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “As neighbours, Ontario has a unique relationship with the United States. Government of Canada Launches Green Freight Program

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has opened requests for grants under Stream 1 of the recapitalized Green Freight Program (GFP), with a focus on assisting fleets to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from on-road freight operations by offering grants up to 50% towards the cost of fleet energy assessments and truck equipment retrofits.

Program details including the application process are now available through NRCan’s website.

To take advantage of the program, applicants must first complete a fleet energy assessment. NRCan offers up to 50% of the cost towards a third-party fleet energy assessment being completed.

Applicants can also choose to conduct a self-assessment, following NRCan’s Assessment Guidelines. With a valid fleet assessment in hand, companies qualify to receive grants towards recommended fleet retrofit activities.

NRCan has established a list of approved retrofit technologies, of which a percentage of the cost will be eligible for reimbursements up to a maximum cap per device. The list of eligible devices/ technologies can be found online. The maximum cap for all retrofits will be reviewed on an annual basis.

To qualify for reimbursement, all eligible purchases must be made and equipment installed after December 12, 2022. Grants are available on a first come, first-serve basis, or until funding runs out for

NRCan’s fiscal year (March 31).

The process to receive a grant is simple. Once companies have completed and paid for all eligible activities, they can submit their grant application to NRCan via e-mail.

Through consultations with the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) and other stakeholders, the Government of Canada has recognized that decarbonization in the long-haul trucking sector will be a gradual process, and that financial barriers are the top concern impacting the adoption of fuel and GHG reducing technologies for fleets. This fact was highlighted under Budget 2022, which outlined an investment of nearly $200M over five years announced for the GFP program.

“We thank the Government of Canada and National Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson for their leadership and for recognizing that significant support is required to de-risk investment and encourage adoption of low-carbon technologies for fleets, particularly in the face of rising costs and inflation currently impacting trucking operators across the country,” says Lak Shoan, director of Policy and Industry Awareness Programs for CTA.

“CTA looks forward to working with federal officials to ensure the success of this program and the expansion of these types of programs in the future. This will further accelerate uptake of green technology in our sector to meet our

joint climate and emissions reduction goals.”

NRCan will also be launching a second stream of the GFP in Spring 2023. It will offer funding contribution towards engine repowers, purchase of alternative fuel trucks (e.g renewable natural gas & hybrid applications) and large scale logistical best practice projects. The program will contribute up to 50 percent of the total project costs up to a maximum of $5 million per agreement. Further details will be made available by NRCan in the spring.

Annual feedback report analyzes 100K comments from drivers to identify central themes and opportunities to improve retention

The report compiles employee feedback data from 99,967 anonymous comments collected from 32,600 truck drivers across 109 carriers, providing an in-depth analysis of driver concerns, challenges, and key trends within the industry.

If the driver chooses to reveal their identity, WorkHound data shows that fast action leads to better retention rates.

In aggregate, companies using WorkHound retained 11,843 drivers last year for at least 30 days post-reveal, accounting for an 87.8% postreveal retention rate.

To simplify the data, the report categorized driver comments into 13 standard themes. Within the themes, researchers also measured sentiment. The top positive themes were Praise, People, and Home Time. This feedback included messages of gratitude, often recognizing the perks drivers appreciate, showing a clear indication that com-

While anonymity is a pillar of the WorkHound platform, if employers believe they can resolve an issue through direct employee contact, they can reach out to request the driver’s identity.

WorkHound additionally found that companies who regularly contact their employees following a negative submission have higher overall satisfaction scores. This suggests empathetic engagement positively impacts relationships and, in turn, retention rates. With this in mind, the company is adding a 2-way anonymous messaging feature to its platform, allowing managers to chat with workers to resolve issues in real time.

Consolidating the data then available on the various transportation segments of road, marine, rail and air, the study made it possible to fully profile the industry, and served as the foundation for the work and projects of the fledgling cluster.

Since then, the economic and social context in which the industry operates has greatly changed. Industry players are facing many challenges in a post-pandemic inflationary environment that is putting pressure on global supply chains. The scarcity of labour and the road infrastructure maintenance are adding further pressures on our sector. Despite these challenges, the last few years have clearly proved the importance of our sector, and the upswing in job numbers confirms its

resilience and vitality.

“Although the number of companies in Greater Montreal between 2012 and 2021 decreased from 6,297 to 6,089, the total number of jobs in transportation and warehousing increased by nearly 24%, from 43,700 to 54,100. In terms of indirect jobs, namely the role of logistics at manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, we can factor in about 75,000 additional jobs, for a total of close to 130,000 jobs in Greater Montreal,” stated CargoM Executive Director Mathieu Charbonneau. “Many companies are facing a shortage of personnel, and this figure would undoubtedly be higher without the current labour shortage.
