Gold Rush Team Hits Pay Dirt With Screen Performance Evaluation The reality TV series Gold Rush is a ratings phenomenon for Discovery Channel. Now starting its seventh season, the series follows three mining teams as they search for gold in the Yukon and other rugged environments. In most episodes, the men are beset by forces they can’t control—rain, snow, floods, cave-ins, medical emergencies, personality clashes and even bears. So when the 316 Mining team began having mechanical problems with its “Monster Red” wash plant in 2015, they turned to a sure thing: the Screen Performance Evaluation service from Polydeck Screen Corporation. The team’s quarry and mining expert, Dave Turin, knew Polydeck was right for the job. He had specified Polydeck screen media on a different wash plant several seasons earlier,
impressed by the longevity and throughput of the screens. His family’s quarry and paving business in Oregon also uses Polydeck media. “I estimate it lasts 10 times longer than regular steel screen,” he says. “In the family business, we used to change screens every two weeks. Now with Polydeck, it’s only once or twice a year.” To assess Monster Red’s problems, Polydeck specialist Mike Garrison went to the Klondike to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the wash plant. A 50-ton behemoth with a 38-foot sluice that processes 300 cubic yards of pay dirt an hour, Monster Red was literally shaking itself apart, causing components to break. Garrison attached electronic instrumentation to the equipment to measure multiple aspects of op-
eration, including screen speed, stroke and acceleration. The readings were downloaded into a proprietary software program for analysis—information that enabled Garrison to make recommendations to the team’s mechanics on how to fine-tune Monster Red. A key aspect of the solution was to adjust the counterweight segments in the vibrator assembly to reduce excessive energy. The adjustments not only solved the mechanical issues, said Turin, “it increased throughput on our bottom deck by as much as 20 percent, and that was a factor in helping us get more gold.” In fact, the team recorded their largest haul of gold that season. The dual benefit— solving problems and increasing efficiency—is no surprise to Polydeck’s Garrison, who has 42 years
of mining experience and has evaluated more than 1,500 machines around the world. “Three-quarters of our visits begin with a mechanical problem,” he says, “but when we leave, the overall efficiency is usually significantly improved as well.” Garrison says that very few machines used in mining operations perform optimally. “The machine and the media panels work as a system. Even though the screen media may be delivering at maximum capabilities, it may not be working in sync with the machine for that particular site application.” That mismatch can lead to costly problems. For example, he says, a machine designed to operate at 3.5 Gs of acceleration might have an expected life of 50,000 hours. If acceleration averages 5 Gs, however, the useful life could be cut in half, significantly increasing operating costs. “With a set-up that optimizes displacement and acceleration, the operator can increase throughput, while reducing downtime and operating costs,” says Garrison The key to maximiz-
ing performance, he says, is to record machine operation electronically and get the facts. “If we can quantify it, we can resolve it,” says Garrison. He contrasts Polydeck’s scientific assessment with more “home-grown” methods, such as attaching paper to the side of a vibrating machine and using a pencil to trace an orbit in an effort to get a handle on movement issues. After an assessment, customers receive a report that includes before-andafter readings on displacement and acceleration, as well as precise orbits, critical frequency graphs and supporting structure evaluations benchmarked against international standards for movement. And, most importantly, recommendations on how to adjust the machine and screen deck set-up to improve performance. Screening efficiency is affected by a multitude of factors, and it’s important to consider all of them to ensure a screening operation is as productive as possible. Dave Turin is a believer. “I haven’t seen another company with as much
Page 3 experience in crushing and screening as Polydeck. Mike looked at our environment of operation and considered the whole process, from screens and conveyors to the sluice box and bottom deck. With his recommendations, we were able to fine-tune our equipment to improve throughput and make more money.” The good news for other mining operators is that the Performance Evaluation Service conducted at Monster Red is available to all Polydeck customers. “The Gold Rush team is a great bunch of guys, but they didn’t get any special treatment,” says Garrison. “It’s the exact same service we’ll provide for any customer.” You can learn more about ways to maximize screen efficiency at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in March 2017. Both Mike Garrison and Dave Turin (@grdozerdave) from Gold Rush will be featured speakers in the Polydeck education session Maximizing Screen Efficiency. Gold Rush airs Fridays at 9pm/8C on Discovery. b Source: Conexpo

Terex Trucks Shows True Grit In Ireland Irish Salt Mining and Exploration’s Carrickfergus mine plays a vital part in keeping the UK’s road network open during winter, with Terex Trucks surefooted articulated dump trucks hauling extracted salt – whatever the weather. Salt has been among the earth’s most abundant and essential minerals since the dawn of time. Composed primarily of sodium chloride (NaCl), it is known as rock salt, or halite in its natural, crystalline form. In 2015, total world production of salt reached 273 million tonnes, according to market research company Statista, with the top five producers being Canada, China, Germany, India and the US. Situated to the north of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Irish Salt Mining and Exploration’s (ISME) Carrickfergus mine was developed specifically to mine de-ic-
ing rock salt for winter road maintenance. Founded in 1965, ISME is positioned in a prime location, thanks to its proximity to the coast, as well as the construction of a ship loading terminal, which enables the company to develop a successful export market. The company’s 55-strong workforce currently produces between 300,000 to 500,000 tonnes of road salt per year, and provides local authorities across the UK with rock salt to help keep the road network open during the icy winter months. Scottish local authorities are its biggest customer, followed by Ireland and then the rest of the UK. “Our job is simple,” says Derek Moore, mine manager at ISME. “We make the roads safer!” Rock solid progress Mining at Carrickfergus uses the ‘room and pillar’
dry mining method. There are five seams of salt, but ISME only mines one extensively, due to the thickness of the seams. (This is because 3.5m (12ft) of salt must be left above the excavated rooms as a support.) At its deepest point, the mine reaches 305m (1,000ft) below ground. “The deeper you get, the larger the pillars,” explains Moore. “But on average the room sizes are 15.3m (50ft) wide and 9m (30ft) high. In the older part of the mine, they are just 6.7m (22ft) high, while the pillars are 39.6m (130ft) square in the newest part of the mine, and 27.4m (90ft) square in the older parts.” The geology of the area is fairly simple too. There are no gases or moisture to contend with, which makes mining a simpler process too. Moore explains: “We drill; we cut; we blast; we

muck out.” During mining, the salt bed is undercut then drilled and blasted. Blasting happens at the end of each 10hour shift, usually around 17.30, and sees three faces advance 3m (10ft) each time. The next morning’s first job is roof scaling, using a rotary cutting head designed specifically for the purpose. The broken salt is then loaded into one of ISME’s seven Terex Trucks haulers, including two new TA400s, and hauled to the crushing plant. Crushing and screening are completed underground before the finished product is transported, via a 2km-long network of conveyors, to the surface. The salt, ready for use, is then treated with an anticaking additive and stored undercover for dispatch by sea from the company’s own quay, or by road. ‘Nothing’s too much trouble for our Terex Trucks haulers’ ISME’s newest machine, a 38-tonne capacity TA400 with a six cylinder Scania DC13 Tier 4 Final engine, arrived on site in February 2016. It was supplied by local dealer Sleator Plant, who is based in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, and Moore says he is extremely pleased with the machines and after sales support. “Aaron McCaul, aftersales manager at Sleator Plant is our main contact,” says Moore. “Nothing is ever too much trouble for him and the team, no matter what the time of day.” Moore says the company looked at other options before purchasing its newest hauler, but it was the ‘simple’ nature of Terex Trucks’ haulers that won the day. “Their simplicity is one of the major factors about the TA400 that we really like,” says Moore. “It’s easy to maintain and service, so we are confident that it’s going to keep working. We
find that once you have too many computers involved in running your machines then problems can start occurring.” Before choosing its latest machine ISME not only visited the Terex Trucks facility in Motherwell, Scotland, but also saw the machines in action at an open cast mine in Scotland and at a product demonstration in Malaga. “We wanted something that’s robust and comfortable for the drivers,” explains Moore. “At the same time, fuel efficiency and environmental concerns played a part in choosing the right truck. And, of course, the back-up we get from the dealer also impacted our final decision.” As part of its aftersales service, Sleator Plant provided a trainer who showed the operators the changes that had been made to the new machine, as well as explaining the new maintenance routine to the workshop staff. There have been no problems running any of the machines. ISME keeps the trucks clean as an added safety precaution to reduce the risk of fire, while adhering to the maintenance and servicing
schedule, as well as doing daily and monthly checks. The company operates its own workshop to carry out routine maintenance and servicing, with larger jobs, such as an engine overhaul, being carried out by Sleator Plant. Keeping to the mine’s speed limit is a key factor in reducing wear and tear, as well as minimizing fuel consumption. But the working conditions are still extreme, with the trucks having to cope with corrosive salt and dust, not to mention the temperatures inside the mine. “With all machines, it’s common that as they age there can be problems with the chassis because they really do take a pounding, but our oldest haulers are still operating after 25 years,” Moore adds. More than a match for these conditions, the new TA400 is proving to be a success with ISME’s employees. “Truck driving is seen as one of the most important jobs in the mine, so it’s vital the operators have as much comfort as possible,” he continues. “When you get in, you don’t want to get out!” b Source: Terex Trucks

Gomaco Introduces The Three-Track Commander IIIx For Extreme Radii The new three-track Commander III Xtreme is unlike any other Commander ever built by Gomaco, and now has the ability to slipform a 24 inch (610 mm) radius. The new Extreme Package for multiapplication pavers includes rotary-sensored slew drives for steering, sensored leg positioning, independent travel circuits to each track, radius software, Gomaco’s three-sensor radius system, and repeatable mold offset. The Commander IIIx features extreme turning capabilities with rotarysensored slew drives on each of the three tracks. Gomaco’s software engineers have created the new extreme radius software bundle for the G+ control system that allows the operator to program the size of the radius into the controller. As the Commander IIIx approaches the radius, with the values already dialed in, the operator activates the radius program, and the curb and gutter
machine slipforms around the radius. It’s now easy for any operator to pour a radius. G+ manages all aspects of traveling around the radius, including track angles and variable track speeds. When paving with stringline, the Commander IIIx uses the Gomaco three sensor steer system for the tight radius. The proper speed of each of the tracks is maintained by G+ with independent hydraulic circuits to each track, so each one is traveling at the necessary, varied speed to maintain the smooth radius. The Commander IIIx’s three tracks, equipped with rotary-sensored slew drives, also make slipforming curb and gutter in tight clearance conditions easier. Their extreme turn capability, combined with the Commander IIIx’s All-Track Steering and AllTrack Positioning, make it the ultimate intelligent paver. The intelligent All-Track
Positioning on the Commander IIIx includes a smart hydraulic cylinder on all three legs. Now, because of the smart cylinders, G+ knows the position of all three tracks. Intelligent offset is accomplished with a smart hydraulic cylinder for telescoping the mold mounting system. This provides G+ the ability for repeatable mold offset. And the trimmerhead and mold have independent vertical adjustments for raising and lowering. G+ quiet technology makes this one of the quietest pavers on the market today. It has been built to accommodate Tier 4 engines and their cooling packages. The Commander IIIx pivoting operator’s console allows the operator to have hands-on control and clear view no matter what application is being slipformed or what the direction of travel. It has an optimized cooling package with the hydraulic fan controlled by G+ to adapt cooling needs to job-site conditions for both a quiet and efficient operation. It has improved fuel efficiency with a power-optimized engine and load-sensed hydraulic circuits. Excellent fuel ef-
ficiency combined with an increased fuel capacity allows an uninterrupted day of paving on the project. The three-track Commander IIIx is available with an optional on-board camera to monitor designated areas of the slipforming process. The camera can be positioned anywhere around the paver and feeds live to the G+ display on the operator’s console. The Commander IIIx’s G+ control system easily interfaces with stringline or a 3D guidance system for curb and gutter, tight ra-

dius applications. It is also available with Gomaco Remote Diagnostics (GRD) for machine troubleshooting, diagnostic reviews, software updates, and more. The Commander III is the best-selling multi-purpose machine of all time. The new three-track Commander IIIx will be on display for the first time in 2017. Stop by the Gomaco booth at World of Concrete, Central Hall, Booth C5126, or CONEXPOCON/AGG, Central Hall, Booth C30380, to see the new Commander IIIx and
Gomaco’s complete line of concrete paving equipment. Gomaco will display bridge deck finishing technology, a variety of pavers to fit any contractors slipforming needs, curb and gutter innovations, sidewalk finishing, placing and trimming options, as well as the latest in 3D machine guidance, G+ digital control, telematics, and more. CONEXPO-CON/AGG will feature the largest display of Gomaco equipment ever. b Source: Gomaco

New Doosan DX225LL-5 Log Loader Doosan introduces the new DX225LL-5 log loader, replacing the Tier 3-compliant DX225LL model. The DX225LL-5 features a Tier 4 non-DPF Doosan engine, and a variety of performance, uptime protection, and operator comfort and visibility enhancements. Built for peak performance
Doosan DX225LL-5 log loaders are built with Doosan DL06P Tier 4-compliant diesel engines and powerful hydraulics for top-of-the-line performance in a variety of forestry applications. Log loader operators benefit from the machines’ electronic power optimizing systems (EPOS) that provide four work
modes to best match the application. Machine operators can select the best mode to maximize jobsite efficiency and fuel consumption. To help save diesel fuel and lower operating costs, Doosan added an autoshutdown system for use during non-working conditions. When configured, the feature will shut down the log loader’s engine when the pre-set idle time is met. Uptime protection Doosan DX225LL-5 log loaders are built with

A fully guarded, heavy-duty upper structure is designed specifically for forestry applications such as log loading, timber harvesting, forestry access road construction and maintenance, mill/yard operations and reforestation/fire control. Enhanced heel, arm and boom cylinder guards improve uptime protection. Heavy-duty covers help protect log loaders from being damaged. The log loader is designed with a high and wide undercarriage for improved ground clearance above stumps. The undercarriage’s track includes heavy-duty links with double grouser shoes, rock guards and full-length track guiding guards. Heavy-duty top rollers include special clean-out brackets to make routine maintenance easier. World’s Largest Articulated Hauler Makes Debut At MineExpo
Volvo Construction Equipment once again reinvents the category of articulated haulers with the A60H — a first-of-its-kind, 60-ton-capacity, fully articulated hauler that invites customers to rethink the way they’re moving material. In 1966, Volvo introduced the industry’s first articulated hauler — the 10-ton DR 631, known as Gravel Charlie. Fifty years and 50 tons later, the A60H marks another Volvo milestone. Built upon the same engineering advancements as its smaller, industryleading counterparts, the A60H provides the same off-road capability, now with an impressive 60-
ton payload capacity. This new-to-industry hauler class opens increased production opportunities and cost savings potential not previously possible with smaller articulated haulers or rigid trucks in the 60-ton size class. “The A60H is a perfect fit for contractors who typically run multiple articulated haulers on long-term earthmoving projects. In many cases, customers could expect reduced operating costs by replacing two smaller trucks with one A60H,” says Eric Fatyol, product manager, GPE products at Volvo Construction Equipment. “The A60H could also open up new areas of production for mine and aggregate sites

by providing access to areas of the site that were previously inaccessible with rigid trucks. Similarly, the A60H could extend the production season in harsh-weather regions and also eliminate the need for hiring outside contractors to handle overburden work.” True Volvo versatility Powered by a 673-horsepower Volvo D16J engine and built upon the legendary Volvo platform, the A60H goes where others can’t. The active hydraulic front suspension, hydromechanical steering and high ground clearance at the articulation joint enable the A60H to easily and comfortably navigate severe terrain, and the roContinued from page 8
lour LCD screen, operators can easily monitor the log loader’s engine rpm, fuel consumption, battery voltage, front and rear hydraulic pump pressure and other critical machine data. The screen also displays the rearview and optional sideview camera. Optional equipment Available as options for the DX225LL-5 include an optional side-entry forestry cab certified for Oregon OSHA and British Columbia WCB standards. The forestry cab is built with a guarded polycarbonate front window, side and rear windows, as well as a rear secondary exit. Additional options include a straight travel pedal, which allows the operator to travel in a straight line more easily; block heater or diesel-powered coolant heater for cold-weather starts; and additional LED lights for
tating hitch design makes the articulation joint virtually maintenance-free. Automatic traction control (ATC) and 100-percent differential locks continue to be a competitive advantage for Volvo. The no-slip, no-wear differential locks work in 4x6 and 6x6 drive combinations. This industry-unique design employs the front two axles in fulltime, and the back axle kicks in as necessary — allowing unmatched off-road performance while reducing fuel consumption and tire wear. With oil-cooled, wet, multiple disc brakes on all three axles, stopping distance is impressively short — even on steep, muddy gradients. New features come standard The Volvo A60H also offers a range of new standard features borrowed from the latest G-series model updates, each contributing to improved safety, productivity, efficiency and ease of serviceability. Hill Assist is a new safety and convenience feature that holds the hauler in place on steep slopes without the need to engage the parking brake. The feature automatically activates when arriving at a complete stop on a hill and is disengaged when the operator accelerates. Dump Support System allows the operator to see the percentage side inclination of the truck and set allowable parameters for improved visibility. Road builder configuration available The road builder option is designed to create access roads to the logging area, remove stumps and install culverts. The road builder is similar to a log loader, with its heavy-duty upper structure and high and wide undercarriage. Unlike a traditional Doosan log loader, the roader builder is not designed with a cab riser. It comes with an excavator boom and arm configuration. A pattern change valve is available to quickly switch control patterns from SAE to ISO controls. Road builders are commonly configured with a variety of Doosan buckets, hydraulic clamp and quick coupler for versatility when clearing paths for logging operations. b Source: Doosan

safe operation. This new feature adds to the already user-friendly dumping process aided by Volvo’s patented load and dump brake technology with automatic hold and float tipping lever, which provides precise control for faster cycle times. On-Board Weighing now comes standard and is fully automatic. Three load indicator lights alert both the hauler operator and the excavator operator when nominal load has been reached and can warn the operators of overload-
ing. The hauler operator can also see, in real-time, the actual tonnage displayed on the in-cab Contronics display, which also includes a new Econometer feature showing fuel economy in the form of gallon per transported ton, per work cycle for the last 10 cycles. This data is also shared and remotely accessible by the fleet manager through CareTrack, Volvo’s telematics system, allowing for complete payload management and improved fleet utilization. John Deere Operations Centre Adds Mobile Apps And Mapping Functions
December 2016 More Tools Page With the list of software solutions connected to the open platform growing almost daily, Operations Centre now offers a convenient place to find more information about how a producer’s favourite ag software can connect to and enhance their Operations Centre experience. “We are very excited about this new batch of mobile apps and Operations Centre features,” says Scott Brotherton, product marketing manager at John Deere. “An important area of our focus has been on building smarter mobile solutions, and our customers are telling us that the MyOperations and MyAnalyzer apps are truly ‘data made easy’. Even after just one season of use, some customers say they couldn’t imagine working without these apps.” To get the most out of Operations Centre and the related apps, John Deere recommends using JDLink Connect, which seamlessly connects the machine to the cloud and takes the burden of data collection and transmission off of the producer. “JDLink Connect rounds out agronomic data with machine data to give a more complete picture of what is happening on the farm,” explains Brotherton. “With this new software release, and future ones, we are proving our dedication to building a world class, open ag data platform that will fit any producer’s needs, regardless of their brand loyalty or software preferences.” For more information about the new Operations Centre software release, contact your local John Deere dealer or read our release notes, located in Operations Centre Help. b
In an effort to enhance the functionality, easeof-use and overall value of John Deere Operations Centre to producers, John Deere announces a new software release for its cloud-based platform. These user-focused changes include more tools and features that enable producers to easily collect and access more farm information and collaborate with partners to gain insights, increase profits and direct their plans with more precision in the field. The latest software release for Operations Centre, along with new mobile apps, give producers a more complete view of a farm operation – whether in the office or on the go. The new tools and features, which are now available in Operations Centre for customers to use, include: MyOperations App Allows producers to monitor and direct many farm activities by combining current machine and operational information into a mobile-focused experience. This app empowers managers to connect to in-cab displays, evaluate performance during and after field work and efficiently manage field logistics. Available for both iOS and Android devices from the John Deere App Centre or the app store. MyAnalyzer App Helps managers take field analysis to the next level by providing mobile access to documented map layers and farm summaries in the field and on the go. Available for iOS and Android devices from the John Deere App Centre or the app store.
Maintenance Manager and MyMaintenance App Gives users the ability to create maintenance plans using factory guidelines or build a custom plan for equipment with special maintenance needs. Managers can receive alerts for upcoming maintenance and easily order parts online from the JDParts shopping cart. Users can also view fleet status and log maintenance as completed with the convenience of the integrated MyMaintenance mobile app. Field Analyzer Maps • Application and Harvest Speed Maps – Users can now leverage speed maps for field application and harvest operations in order to evaluate performance of field work and its effect on yield outcomes. • HarvestLab Constituent Maps – View acid detergent fibre (ADF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), protein, starch and sugar content maps for Self-Propelled Forage Harvester (SPFH) operations that include HarvestLab measurements. Use the average and maximum contents to improve decisions related to forage utilization. New Competitive Display Compatibility Data collected from Ag Leader InCommand 800 and 1200 and Raven Viper Pro, Viper 4 and Envizio Pro systems can be imported into Operations Centre via USB or John Deere Mobile Data Transfer. This increases the amount of data available to producers using multiple brands of technology and provides additional layers of data for analysis and better Source: John Deere decisions.

accent colors on handrails, grill step and cab entrance now provide contrast for additional safety. Protected for a lifetime The A60H is not just powerful and off-road capable — it’s incredibly durable, which is why it’s backed by a Lifetime Frame and Structure Warranty. The A60H’s frame and articulation/oscillation joint are protected for the entirety of the initial period of ownership or for the life
Serviceability improvements include a redesigned belly plate that can be electrically lowered and raised with the same hydraulic lever that is used for the engine hood, which opens to a full 90 degrees for easy, unrestricted access. Another improvement to the A60H is the no-grease tipping cylinders, which are maintenance-free, allowing for greater uptime and productivity. New orange

industrial companies with experience and competitive and innovative solutions to join our expanding supply chain,” said Brian. “This process provides an outstanding opportunity for Seaspan to meet and engage with prospective companies to describe our growing needs and explain in greater detail the role they could play to ensure we are delivering the best vessels possible to our federal customers.” In October 2011, after an open and competitive procurement process, the Government of Canada awarded Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards the right to build Canada’s NonCombat vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Seaspan’s Non-Combat Vessel Backlog includes: • Three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSVs) • One Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) • Two Joint Support Ships (JSS) • One Polar Icebreaker (PIB) • Up to five Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs). b
More than 100 people representing over 70 companies attended Seaspan Shipyards’ second annual Atlantic Canada Industry Day hosted in Halifax this past September. During the session, attendees received an update on Seaspan’s progress on its National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) Non-Combat package of vessels and associated supply chain opportunities. “Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy, Seaspan has embarked on many years of sustained shipbuilding on the West Coast that is already delivering results to Canada, its taxpayers and the overall Canadian economy,” said Brian Carter, President – Seaspan Shipyards. “We are progressing well on the construction of the first two of three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard with the third one to begin later this year. We continue to work hand-in-hand with the Canadian Coast
Guard on the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel and Royal Canadian Navy’s Joint Support Ships through the necessary preproduction phases, including the procurement of equipment and materials for these programs.” Over the first 10 years of the National Shipbuilding Strategy, Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards is projected to spend over $1.3 billion with Canadian suppliers. In addition, it is estimated that Seaspan’s NSS work will create an annual average of more than 2300 direct, indirect and induced jobs, produce almost $290 million per year in GDP for Canada’s economy, and mean thousands of people will get the opportunity for an exciting new career in shipbuilding. “Seaspan Shipyards’ Atlantic Canada Industry Day in Halifax is a strong reminder of the progress being made under NSS and our unwavering commitment to attracting marine Source: Seaspan

Martin Bencher Uses Low Profile Skidding System For Project Project cargo freight forwarder Martin Bencher USA LLC used an LP400 low profile skidding system from Canadian manufacturer Hydra-Slide Ltd to complete installation of 24 hulking loads at a power plant in Texas recently. With 12 325 ton engines and the same number of 80 ton generators loaded over a three-week period through two doors at the facility, time and space were key considerations for Martin Bencher, making the LP400 stand out over alternative solutions. Its patented low-profile, hand-portable design permits its use in most situations where a high capacity skid system is required, but where space or access is limited. A total height of less than 2 in. (51mm) reduces jacking time and is ideal for the power plant environ-
ment, where space was restricted as the units were loaded through openings in the east and west halls before final installation. David Branco, US marketing manager, Martin Bencher, said: “We did our research following a recommendation from a heavy haul and rigging company and were confident in the capability of the Hydra-Slide unit, owing in part to an impressive demonstration video they provided for us. However, the LP400 still performed above our expectations.” He continued: “An indoor gantry crane and conventional slide system would have been the alternative method in this case, which our riggers are familiar with, but the method requires a much thicker beam and a large crew. The LP400, by contrast, is lightweight and
easy to assemble. Once we had two, then three, then four engines in the halls, space became restricted and the smaller track system made progression of the project that much smoother. Efficiency is a premium commodity in a power plant environment where shut-downs are often required to allow installation work to take place. The faster a plant is back up and running, the happier the customer.” Janine Smith, vice president, Hydra-Slide, said: “Martin Bencher’s power plant project was a perfect application for the LP400 system. It can be mobilized quickly and set-up is relatively simple. The system is controlled by one operator working from a remotely positioned power unit. There is no need for personnel to be close to the load when moving
and no winch lines, holdbacks or heavy equipment complicate the process. The maximum weight of any LP component is 130 lbs. [60kg] and the full system packs up into a storage box that fits in the back of a pickup truck. We’re seeing huge demand for this type of slide system for plant and factory proj-
Page 15
ects, as well as job sites where there is limited heavy moving equipment available.” Transportation of the engines and generators was more complicated. Martin Bencher employed two Goldhofer trailers simultaneously to move the loads from Port Isabel, Texas where they had arrived from Italy.
Such was the size of the loads—all the engines were 20 ft.-high, Branco said—transportation had to take place overnight with police escort with a permitted top speed of 20mph. Branco explained that the transport operation of two engines alone took a week. b Source: Hydra-Slide RENTALS SALES SERVICE

Brrrr! Terex Trucks’ Extreme Weather Protection Guide With temperatures dropping across the Northern hemisphere, Terex Trucks’ top tips will ensure trucks beat the chill this winter. Winter is the time of the year when the relationship between man and machine is put to the ultimate test. From frostbite to fatigue failures, operating in extremely low temperatures where downtime is not an option is always a challenge. But here to help, and a veteran of temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius during winter in Siberia, Terex Trucks’ regional customer support manager, John Hunter has provided some key practices to aid safe operation, and prevent damage to offhighway haulers in the cutting cold. Reduce the risks To avoid machine downtime or expensive repairs in the future, oper-
ators must not neglect air filtration, fuel, and lubrication. Hunter explains: “It’s important to drain sediment in the fuel daily as it’s one of the greatest causes of fuel injection system failures. In addition to cleaning the fuel tank and making sure it’s functioning correctly, the tanks must be full to reduce moisture condensation. It’s also good practice to keep a spare filter handy.” As diesel fuel is prone to gelling or waxing in cold weather, Hunter also recommends only using arctic oils that meet API specifications, fuel with the maximum cloud and points of 6°C or 10°F, and winter protection kits that make idling a thing of the past. To meet the needs of trucks working in extremely low temperatures, Terex Trucks has released two extreme cold weather

protection kits for its rigid haulers. The first of the two Webasto-supplied kits, labeled Winter Kit, defends trucks working for prolonged periods where temperatures fall to -25 degrees Celsius, while a second, Arctic Kit, enables safe operating up to a deep freezing -40 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the truckmounted Thermo-Heater, non-productive fuel consumption, engine wearand-tear and prolonged downtime are significantly reduced, thus putting an ice pick through operating costs. The new technology makes use of an environment-friendly start-stop system, with just a very small amount of diesel consumed. The Thermo-Heater is powered once the engine is shut down, it then draws the coolant from the engine and circulates around critical components. The engine-independent heater has the ability to keep the machine’s vital organs at a pre-determined temperature for hours after the motor is switched off, ensuring a fuss-free restart even after prolonged exposure. Keep cool and charged up With a career at Terex Trucks that dates back over 40 years, Hunter also recommends that cooling systems should be inspected weekly, in particular, the coolant reservoir and hoses. Throughout winter, a close eye should be kept on the coolant as it does so much more than simply stop the cooling system from freezing – it also increases the boiling point temperature, confines cavitation, averts corrosion and lubricates shaft seals. Hunter adds: “Make sure that the cooling system is adequately protected from the climatic conditions and that coolant in the radiator is filled to the cap. Also, in extreme climates, the ratio of ethylene glycol antifreeze to water should be 60 to 40, to eliminate the possibility of the water freezing and creating stress in the engine.” It’s essential to make sure batteries are properly
charged throughout winter if machines are to be put to work, as attempting to charge a frozen battery will often cause the battery to explode! This is why maintenance of the battery should begin in autumn, operators must ensure the electrolyte is topped up to the indicated level and flowing over the plates. Another key step to facilitate consistent current supply from the batteries to the machine is by cleaning any debris and rust from the top of the battery. If planning to store trucks away for the winter season, Hunter advises:
“In very cold or hot climates, store the batteries where they will be protected from temperature extremes. Coat the battery terminals and cable ends with acid resistant petroleum jelly.” Treading a fine line Throughout winter the inflation pressure of tires should be checked at least once every two weeks. To minimize wear, remove debris, grease or oil from the tires and regularly inspect for any cracking and chunking. Hunter adds: ‘When extended storage is anticipated, trucks should be blocked up so that weight does not rest en-
tirely on the tires. Ideally it’s better if machines are stored under cover; otherwise, tires need to be protected from the elements by an opaque waterproof covering.” Finally, as well as protecting the machine from the elements, operators must also be adequately prepared to work in extreme conditions. No stranger to the big chill himself, Hunter says: “Wear as many layers of clothing as possible, which allow for comfortable movement. One thick layer of clothing is not as Continued on page 17

effective in insulating the body against the cold the way several layers can. “It’s important to protect your head, ears, nose, hands, and feet. More than 40% of body heat can be lost from the head if left uncovered, hence why wearing warm hats with ear covers is crucial when working in the cold. Likewise, it’s important to be aware of the medical conditions, which can result from cold weather exposure, such as cold stress, for example, frostbite and hypothermia.” Hunter reiterates that the first layer of clothing needs to be synthetic as opposed to cotton — synthetic materials take sweat away from the body while cotton absorbs it. The second layer should preferably be wool, the third should be weather-proof with good down insulation, and footwear must be waterproof and insulated. Operators can also keep the cold out with frequent drinks of warm liquids such as decaffein-

ated coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or broth. “Avoid caffeine when working in the cold, as it hinders the body’s heat-producing mechanisms, and causes the body’s core temperature to drop,” concludes Hunter. Advanced Drainage Systems Hosts Ceremonial Event Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. (“ADS”) (NYSE:WMS), a leading global manufacturer of water management solutions, hosted community leaders, elected officials and prospective employees at the site of its in-construction new manufacturing facility in Harrisonville, Missouri. This will be the Company’s 62nd manufacturing plant, and its first in Missouri. The event featured remarks from ADS CEO Joe Chlapaty, U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), State Senator Ed Emery (R-Lamar), and Mayor Brian Hasek of Harrisonville. The new 72,650 squarefoot manufacturing facility is expected to open in the first half of 2017, bringing new employment opportunities to the region. This plant represents a significant capital investment for ADS, whose growth is a result of favorable policies enacted by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). In 2011, and again in 2014,
December 2016 heart of America’s economic recovery, and I am extremely pleased to welcome Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) to Missouri’s Fourth District,” said Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4). “As a small business owner, I share the excitement of ADS as it embarks on this expansion that will bring new employment opportunities to citizens of Harrisonville and Cass County. I congratulate ADS and look forward to this global manufacturer opening its Harrisonville operation and launching production in the new year.” The Company intends to employ approximately 50 people at this facility when fully staffed, and will hire locally for employment opportunities in management, machine operation, and transportation, among others. The demand for ADS products has grown significantly, including revenue growth of 50% from 2011, the year MoDOT updated their specifications. Enabling specifier choice has contributed to this growth, and could be replicated across the country with similar policy advances. b
MoDOT updated its standards specification to allow plastic pipe to be used in statewide infrastructure projects for storm water management. The alternative pipe policies enable engineer choice among technically equivalent options and reduce project costs. “MoDOT’s policy improvements contributed significantly to ADS’ decision to invest in Missouri. We are delighted to join the community of committed Harrisonville advocates, and welcomed the participation at the event by Representative Hartzler, Senator Emery, Mayor Hasek and many community advocates and leaders,” said Joe Chlapaty, President and Chief Executive Officer, ADS. “This facility will help meet growing demand for our water management solutions, and we are excited about our increasing contributions to the state of Missouri and this wonderful community.” “Job creation is at the Source: ADS

Systems For Waste Heat Recovery Improve Commercial vehicles’ CO2 Balance Sheet Diesel engines in commercial vehicles today work extremely efficiently. For example, in long-haul trucks, it is possible to convert about 40 percent of the energy chemically bound up in the fuel into forward movement. A large portion of the currently-unusable energy escapes into the environment as exhaust heat. More and more manufacturers of commercial vehicles are working on new concepts, which convert some of the exhaust heat into kinetic energy. In this way, the fuel consumption of heavy trucks is expected to be cut by a minimum of 5 percent. Freudenberg Sealing Technologies supports such developments with innovative sealing solutions. The transformation of heat into mechanical energy is possible with the help of a thermodynamic process known as the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), named after the Scottish physicist William Rankine (18201872). This circulation
process, so far used solely in industrial plants, works like this: A working fluid is pumped from an accumulator into a heat exchanger along which hot exhaust gas is flowing. The fluid vaporizes over the course of the process. The steam is further heated, much as in a steam engine, to temperatures as high as 250°C (482°F). At the same time, the pressure rises as high as 40 bar. In an expansion engine, the pressure sets either a piston or a turbine into motion. This mechanical work can be passed directly on to the truck’s driveshaft. Or, alternatively, a generator can be driven to produce electricity. The steam is guided at reduced pressure into a condenser behind the expansion engine. The condenser cools the working medium to the point that it is again fluid. As a result, fluid is not wasted – on the contrary, it is intended to flow in the circuit, as much as possible without leaks or need for maintenance. The sole purpose of

Suitable for most ground conditions and machine configurations, KovaX features a double grouser and larger cleat for good traction as well as curved ends for increased flotation, less ground disturbance and easier machine turning. For
the pressure-controlled accumulator tank is to make sufficient fluid available under all operating conditions. High-tech seals are necessary to apply such concepts in the harsh conditions of heavy duty transport. The manufacturers’ minimum expectation for the system’s lifespan is at least 1.6 million kilometers (approx. 995,000 miles). It is essential to seal the pipe connections between the condenser and the vaporizer as precisely as the inner workings of the pump, the valves and the expansion engine. The chemical composition of the working fluid represents a special challenge. There is no industry standard yet for the medium. But various scientific investigations by German Research Association for Combustion Engines (FVV) and other organizations, show that ethanol would be a suitable fluid. This monohydric alcohol has a relatively low boiling point of 78°C (173°C) in its favor, which means that it is tion holes for improved oil flow and better adaptability with grease lubrication. possible to generate steam from exhaust heat without difficulty. At the same time, its freezing point, -115°C (-175°F), is so low that it is impossible for the tank to freeze. In addition, ethanol, which is used in many cosmetic products, is non-toxic to human skin. But ethanol poses a challenge to the elastomer seals that are traditionally used in vehicle manufacturing. That’s because ethanol leads to the increased swelling of the material, which can lead to the system’s inadequate leak-tightness if its design is flawed. There can even be a negative impact on mechanical properties such as elongation at break and tensile strength. Since biogenically produced ethanol is already contained in today’s gasolines or has substituted it up to a 100 percent in the Brazilian market, among others, Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has already developed ethanol-resistant seals. Seals made of fluoro rubber have already proven themselves in fuel-conducting components of the so-called flex-fuel engines. In systems with waste heat recovery, the material mix-
ture must be adapted to the higher temperatures. Furthermore, systems that are designed to utilize hot air exhaust gases are installed near the engine in the tractor where the installation space is tight. So systems that simultaneously seal and make a mechanical connection with the piping could become a key approach to implementing assemblies technically. Freudenberg Sealing Technologies now has such a sealing solution: its “Plug & Seal” product. Yet another component of the ORC system is a pressure-regulated accumulator for the working fluid. Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has already successfully developed these accumulators in high volumes for various industrial applications. “Exhaust heat recovery systems based on the Organic Rankine Cycle are still in the pre-development stage,” said Oswaldo Anaya of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies. “Series applications in the coming decade are becoming increasingly likely due to stricter CO2 regulations and high cost pressures in the transportation sector.” Due to expanding freight
Page 19 transport volume, fuel savings of five percent would mean a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions. This would yield per-vehicle savings of 2,250 liters (595 gal.) of diesel for an annual mileage of 150,000 km (94,000 miles) at an average of fuel consumption of 30 liters per 100 km driven. According to estimates, the system would pay for itself within two years due to the fuel savings. If a million newly registered heavyduty commercial vehicles were equipped with such a system, the result would be overall savings of 2.25 billion liters, which corresponds to the elimination of 5.9 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. The use of heat recovery systems is not exclusively limited to heavyduty commercial vehicles. The direct mechanical energy gain from the organic Rankin cycle is also suited to ship engines, for example, where they are already in series use. Car manufacturers are now doing research on thermoelectric generators (TEG), which are designed to generate electric current from exhaust heat. The use of TEG Continued on page 20

their own cooling circuit,” said Anaya. “Seals play a crucial role for the sustainably reliable functioning of every cooling system.” That is why Freudenberg Sealing Technologies is supporting research into systems of this kind. In the future, whether in

ASV LLC’s RT-75 Posi-Track compact track loader offers versatility with its high ground clearance, low ground pressure and superior traction for a variety of conditions, from fragile turf, mud and wet ground to slopes, ice and snow.
The Revolutionary New ASV RT-75 Compact Track Loader ASV LLC, an industryleading manufacturer of all-purpose and all-season compact track loaders and skidsteers, introduces the large-frame, radial-lift Posi-Track RT-75 compact track loader. The RT-75 features highly efficient hydraulics and an innovative, high capacity cooling system while delivering superior serviceability. ASV’s patented Posi-Track undercarriage provides the industry’s highest ground clearance, lowest ground pressure, best traction and longest track life. These features make the compact track loader the ideal machine for applications from construction, landscaping and agriculture to forestry, snow removal and more. “ASV is on a mission to revolutionize the compact track loader market,” said Jim DiBiagio, ASV general manager. “When ASV launched our new line-up of compact track loaders the goal was simple: maximum performance — no compromises! The RT-75 was designed to be the most reliable, highest all-around performing machine in the large frame class — 75 to 95 horsepower machines. We use high-quality components from well-known suppliers — Cummins engines, Bosch drive pumps and motors, and Interstate
batteries, to name a few. When you couple highquality components with over 25 years of experience designing compact track loaders, you get a machine that delivers on our promise of maximum performance with no compromises.” The RT-75 is a new compact track loader ASV builds from the ground up, starting with the undercarriage. The machine features ASV’s patented Posi-Track rubber track suspension. Well known for its smooth ride, the dual-level suspension of the RT-75 features both suspended wheels and axles, allowing it to manage every type of terrain and at faster speeds. The suspended wheels and fully-flexible track conform to the ground assuring maximum traction in the roughest conditions. In addition, the multiple wheel contact points and tripleguide lugs — compared to many machines with only one or two guide lugs — achieve maximum performance on steep slopes. The RT-75 comes standard with 18-inch-wide tracks, resulting in a ground pressure of only 3.6 psi. Optional 20inch tracks lower ground pressures to 3.2 psi. The features, combined with the RT-75’s nearly 15 inches of ground clearance, al-
low the unit to work in more places, on more days and more comfortably than competitive machines. The ASV undercarriage has undergone a complete transformation from a closed design — similar to those used on competitive steel-embedded undercarriages — to an open-rail and drive-sprocket design. The change increases sprocket and bogie life and makes the undercarriage easier and faster to clean. ASV manufactures all rollers with mechanical face seals that don’t require maintenance for the life of the machine. The tracks contain embedded co-polymer cords for extra strength and are produced using a single-cure process, eliminating cure-point weaknesses in the track that can lead to premature breakage. The result is a 1,500- to 2,000-hour track life — 30 percent more than steel-embedded track units. ASV backs that up with an industry-leading two-year, 1,500-hour track warranty. The RT-75 features a Cummins 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The 75-horsepower engine produces 221 foot-pounds of torque — 13 percent more than the machine’s 80-horsepower predecessor, the PT-80. The torque
is transferred to the ground through direct-drive hydraulic motors. There is no need for servicing because the RT-75 does not use planetary drives, and the highly efficient motors transfer maximum power to the patented internaldrive sprockets. With internal rollers preventing friction loss in the undercarriage, all power is transferred to the track regardless of drive speed. The RT-75 achieves Tier 4 Final compliance using a diesel oxidation catalyst that requires no regeneration, no sensors, no diesel exhaust fluid, less wiring and no additional maintenance. ASV designed the machine with serviceability in mind, giving operators easy access to the reliable Cummins engine through a three-panel hood and tilting cooler arrangement. The design, paired with sight gauges for both hydraulic oil and coolant, simplify routine inspections of filters, oil and normal service items. The rearward tilting cab provides easy accessibility when further service is required. ASV built the RT-75’s auxiliary hydraulic system to be highly efficient, including 35.7 gpm high flow and 3,300 psi. Because the machine includes larger line sizes, hydraulic coolers and direct-drive pumps — rather than belt-driven pumps, preventing power loss — more flow and pressure is transferred directly to the attachment. This allows operators to run attachments, such as
brush cutters and mulching heads, more efficiently than higher-horsepower machines from other manufacturers. As a result of belt-driven pumps and restrictions in their hydraulic systems, many competitive machines lose as much as 30 percent of the horsepower that is shown on their spec sheets. Conversely, the RT-75 achieves 22 percent more actual hydraulic horsepower than the 80-horsepower machine it replaces. The RT-75 excels in overall performance. The machine features a rated operating capacity of 2,650 pounds and a tipping load of 7,571 pounds. It is 70 inches wide and has a 126inch lift height. Standard joystick controls make operation easy and intuitive. It comes with an optional all-weather cab that includes heat and air-conditioning and is pressurized for a clean operator environment. The RT-75 also is available in a heavy-duty customization package that includes guarding around areas such as lights, the AC condenser and the rear screen. The RT-75 Heavy-
December 2016 Duty uses a hydraulically driven, auto-reversing cooling fan, similar to the fan used on the RT-120 Forestry, to blow debris out of the engine compartment screens. A full rear brush guard is also available as a factory installed option. The unit can be paired with all standard attachments, such as backhoes, buckets, snow blades, brush cutters and pallet forks. “Our goal at ASV is to provide our customers versatile equipment they can use for everything, regardless of the time of year, to achieve a high return on investment,” said Bill Wake, ASV director of product development. “The RT-75 lets our customers work longer days, tackle more applications and reduce maintenance. That’s a winning combination. We really focus on maximum performance with no compromises and the RT-75 delivers!” For more information on the RT-75 and available options, visit ASV LLC’s websites: www.asvllc.com or www.positrack.com. b Source: IronClad
Cornerstone Pipeline Begins Operations “Cornerstone is a stateof-the-art pipeline that adds superior safety, reliability and economics to existing transportation alternatives,” said MPLX Chairman and CEO Gary R. Heminger. “As the first Utica shale liquids pipeline, Cornerstone is the initial step in MPLX’s plan to provide better connectivity to the basin, which creates another condensate and natural gas liquids (NGL) transportation and marketing option for Marcellus and Utica producers and benefits end users.” The new 50-mile pipeline is designed to transport condensate and natural gasoline in a batched system from origination facilities in Harrison County, Ohio, to a tank farm in East Sparta, Ohio, where it can then continue on to Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s (NYSE: MPC) 93,000-barrels-per-day refinery in Canton, Ohio. MPLX is currently con-
structing and expanding additional pipelines, to provide further distribution to the Midwest and Canada, which are expected to be complete in 2017. “Cornerstone is the backbone of our Utica shale strategy,” Heminger added. “It is routed to provide optimal connectivity from condensate stabilizers and fractionators and aggregate Utica and Marcellus shale production for further distribution.” Cornerstone Pipeline is comprised of a 42-mile, 16inch pipeline from Cadiz to East Sparta with 180,000 barrels per day of capacity and an 8-mile, 8-inch pipeline from East Sparta to Canton with 45,000 barrels per day of capacity. Marathon Pipe Line LLC, a subsidiary of MPLX, will operate Cornerstone Pipeline from its operations centre in Findlay, Ohio, and with local operational personnel. b Source: MPLX LP

Case IH Rolls Out Big Changes To Large Square And Round Baler Line-Up The new LB434XL 3x4 large square baler from Case IH helps high-volume hay and forage producers bale more acres per day thanks to improved capacity and greater bale density. Paired with a Puma or Optum tractor, this rugged and reliable baler produces consistent, uniform bales acre after acre — regardless of the crop or field conditions. With the addition of Model Year 2017 RB5 series round balers, Case IH also is pleased to announce ISOBUS Class 3 functionality across the majority of its baler line-up and all Maxxum CVT, Puma and Optum tractors. This Advanced Farming Systems (AFS) technology enhances both productivity and bale quality. “Not only are we meeting the demand for heavier bales with greater density through our LB434XL balers, we’re giving producers the technology they need to more efficiently harvest each crop at its peak nutritional value,” said Cole Carling, Case IH hay and forage marketing manager. “From tractors to balers and the latest precision technology, the growing line-up of innovative Case IH equipment at dealerships across North America truly offers a one-stop shop for today’s producer.” LB434XL large square balers raise the bar for productivity and reliability From the beefed-up bale chamber to the rugged frame, the LB434XL is designed from the ground up for large-scale hay and forage operations with a lot of ground to cover and a short time to do it. Operators will immediately notice a 31.5inch longer bale chamber. This 31 percent increase over current LB434 balers delivers up to 10 percent higher bale density. Greater density means more crop per bale, decreasing bale count as well as handling, wrapping and transportation costs — helping producers economically reach new markets. ISOBUS Class 3-enabled Feedrate Control
technology makes the dense, well-formed bales produced by the LB434XL easy to achieve for operators of all skill levels. This technology allows the baler to run at optimal performance and capacity by controlling the speed of an ISOBUS Class 3-compatible tractor, such as the versatile Optum. Feedrate Control includes two running operations: • Charge Control: Automatically adjusts the tractor’s speed to reach optimal capacity from the baler. This results in higher throughput by up to 9 percent overall. • Slice Control: Automatically adjusts the tractor’s speed based on bale slice thickness. This allows the operator to predetermine the number of slices per bale to create more consistent bale weight and length. In addition to ISOBUS Class 3, the LB434XL comes with AFS capability built in. The intuitive, easyto-read AFS Pro 300 or 700 control centre display monitors bale weight and moisture while detecting misties in real time — even at high speeds. Regardless of windrow conditions, steering sensors located on each side of the pre-chamber show the operator how to steer for quicker reactions and more uniform bale slices. “Today’s commercial operations must produce dense, perfectly shaped bales,” Carling said. “Whether transporting down the road or across the globe, importers demand top-quality feed value. Equipped with the latest technology, producers will experience less fatigue, along with greater peace of mind knowing that each bale they produce is consistent in quality, flake size and shape.” The LB434XL baler is built to handle capacity. Additional enhancements to this workhorse model include: • Robust design: The heavy-duty plunger hammers out uniform, dense bales at 48 strokes per
minute while the rugged PTO driveline handles 40 percent more peak torque. Increased pickup auger thickness, more robust axle and bearing options and a stronger frame add to overall durability. • Larger platform: A larger platform makes baler clean-off easier for greater productivity. Folding safety railings simplify shipping and road transport, along with better access to the front of knotter fans. • Improved bale-ejection system: The extended bale chamber ensures bales drop more gently with less twine breakage. Partial or full bale eject options feature an active teeth system for greater durability and reliable bale ejection. • Hydraulic hose identification: Color-coded decals identify hydraulic lines to simplify tractor hook-up. • LED work and service lights: Clear illumination to key areas such as pickup, twine boxes, needles and knotters, and the rear safety rail provide better visibility.
Model Year 2017 RB5 series round balers from Case IH feature ISOBUS Class 3-enabled Tractor and Baler Automation technology to automatically stop the tractor when the target bale size is reached.
ISOBUS Class 3 technology boosts round baler productivity For Model Year 2017, RB5 series round balers can be equipped with a new ISOBUS Class 3 Tractor and Baler Automation option. This system controls the tractor stop, bale wrap and bale eject functions without any operator input required. Hooked up to a Puma or Maxxum CVT tractor, operators can take advantage of ISOBUS Class 3 controls to automatically stop the tractor when the target bale size is reached. From there, net wrap is automatically applied and, when the wrap cycle is complete, the baler tailgate raises and lowers automatically to eject each wrapped
bale. Once the completed bale is ejected, the operator can simply move the tractor shuttle lever to the forward position and go. “We look forward to helping our customers re-
think just how productive their operations can be with these latest baler enhancements and technology,” Carling added. b Source: Case IH
