Edmonton Set To Welcome
Inaugural Alberta Equipment Expo
Edmonton will soon welcome a brand-new event for the heavy equipment, roadbuilding, infrastructure, heavy construction and forestry sectors.
The inaugural Alberta Equipment Expo will be taking over the Edmonton EXPO Centre this spring, April 24-25, 2025.
From state-of-the-art machinery to sustainable forestry practices, from cutting-edge road construction techniques to the latest advancements in infrastructure maintenance – this event will round together some of the biggest industry players from across the country.
Following in the footsteps of some of the most successful and respected Heavy Equipment Shows in the country, Alberta Equipment Expo will be promoted and marketed with the same enthusiasm and strong industry reach. Master Promotions has over 50 years of trade show success in promoting: The National Heavy Equipment Show, The Atlantic Heavy Equipment Show, Expo Grands Travaux, Canada North Resources Expo, DEMO International and more. These biennial events regularly welcome over 10,000 visitors during their 2-day shows.
The Alberta Equipment Expo promises to generate unparalleled networking opportunities to get Western Canada’s biggest jobs done right. This event will showcase the current progress being made in the region’s most prominent areas:
• Road Building – The province’s roadbuilding sector is a cornerstone of infrastructure development, facilitating transportation and connectivity to ensure safe travels
for commuters, freight transportation and tourism.
• Heavy Construction/ Infrastructure – From building highways and bridges to constructing pipelines and industrial facilities – the heavy construction sector covers it all.
• Forestry - The forestry sector employs thousands of Albertans in harvesting, processing, and manufacturing activities,
contributing to rural livelihoods and community development.
The first edition of the Alberta Equipment Expo is already 90% sold out. Companies interested in exhibiting are encouraged to contact show management to secure their spot as booth spaces are filling quickly, and likely to sell out. (See ad on page 19).
Industry professionals interested in attending the event are encouraged to check out the show’s official website at www.albertaequipmentexpo.ca for registration details. The latest updates can also be found on Facebook @albertaequip mentexpo. SP

Kubota Adds Three New Compact Models
Kubota Canada Ltd. has announced three new additions to its already strong compact construction lineup – the U17-5 zerotail swing compact excavator, the KX040-5 compact excavator, and the SVL97-3 compact track loader.
These new models mark the first of Kubota’s 2025 product rollouts, kicking off an exciting year for the brand as it celebrates its 50th anniversary in Canada.
“These three models serve as a testament to Kubota’s continued investment in the Canadian compact construction equipment market,” said Jonathan Gardner, construction equipment product manager at Kubota Canada. “We continue to listen to the voices of Canadian customers and operators to develop equipment that meets their needs.
“The U17-5 and KX040-5 continue the path of enhancing and upgrading Kubota’s current lineup of compact excavators, which range from the one to eight-ton weight class,” continued Gardner. “Each model offers Kubota’s trademark reliability, adaptability, and high-end performance.”
U17-5 Zero-Tail Swing Compact Excavator
The new U17-5 zero-tail swing compact excavator provides the power and efficiency operators need in confined spaces. Its tracks can be retracted to 3’3” to get through narrow spaces and expand to 4’3” for best stability on the
jobsite. An auxiliary control on the joystick makes operating attachments with the U17-5 easy with thumb and forefinger-operated switches to control a hydraulic thumb and other attachments, such as post hole auger.
Operator comfort is paramount on the U17-5. The operator’s space has been increased for more legroom, with joysticks positioned perfectly and a semi-suspension seat for maximum comfort on long workdays. The front meter panel can be checked without looking away from the task at hand, and the mobile phone holder ensures easy accessibility from the operator’s seat.
and efficiency in real-world working conditions. The improved hydraulic system utilizes the engine horsepower to its fullest extent allowing flow rate to be increased for optimal performance while using a hydraulic attachment and operating other functions of the KX040-5 simultaneously.
A spacious cab has an expanded glass area that offers 20 per cent more glass in the front window, and the removed roof window slash bars provide clear visibility of the bucket during loading and dumping. The slimmer interior features a repositioned front 7” LCD monitor, more head and foot space, a redesigned back-lit keypad, and an optional air suspension seat for added comfort during long days in the cab.
lowing operators to walk away under full illumination, and an optional rear-view camera to maximize safety and productivity.
SVL97-3 Compact Track Loader
The SVL97-3 features a 96.4 horsepower Kubota engine with high torque output to move material around the jobsite. Its auto-idling system, standard self-leveling up that keeps the bucket or pallet fork in a horizontal position, 128.5” hinge pin height, and standard Kubota Shockless Ride only increase its capabilities and productivity. KX040-5 Compact Excavator
The new four-ton KX0405 compact excavator features an improved hydraulic system to increase productivity
The KX040-5 has the technology operators need to take their performance up a notch, straight from the factory. Standard features include keyless start with up to 10 unique operator passwords, and KubotaNOW telematics, which allow operators to monitor accumulated hours, fuel level, location, etc. through the KubotaNOW app. It also features LED work lights with turn-off delay, al-
The new SVL97-3 offers improved performance, comfort and maintenance over previous generations. Autoshift is now included, helping the operator automatically shift down from second speed for maximum traction when turning or when resistance is felt, and then automatically shifting up for maximum speed on the jobsite. With faster two-speed travel at low gear (8.9 km/h) and high gear (13.5 km/h) and three track response settings, the operator can customize control for optimal machine responsive-
John Deere Showcases New Autonomous Tech
John Deere revealed several new autonomous machines during a press conference at CES 2025 to support customers in agriculture, construction, and commercial landscaping.
Building on Deere’s autonomous technology first revealed at CES 2022, the company’s second-generation autonomy kit combines advanced computer vision, AI, and cameras to help the machines navigate their environments.
While each of these industries experiences their own set of challenges, a commonality across all is skilled labor availability.
• Construction: Eightyeight percent of contractors struggle to find skilled labor.
• Commercial Landscaping: 86% of landscaping business owners can’t find labor to fill open positions.
“Our agriculture, construction, and commercial landscaping customers all have work that must get done
• Agriculture: the American Farm Bureau Federation also estimates there are roughly 2.4 million farm jobs that need to be filled annually.
at certain times of the day and year, yet there is not enough available and skilled labor to do the work,” said Jahmy Hindman, Chief Technology Officer at John Deere. “Autonomy can help address this challenge. That’s why we’re extending our technology stack to enable more machines to operate safely and autonomously in unique and complex environments. This will not only benefit our customers, but all of us who rely on them to provide the food, fuel, fiber, infrastructure, and landscaping care that we depend on every day.”
Autonomy Expanding to More Machines:
• Autonomous 9RX Tractor for Large-Scale Agriculture: Tillage is one of the busiest times of the
year for farmers. With the second-generation autonomy kit, featuring 16 individual cameras arranged in pods to enable a 360-degree view of the field, farmers can step away from the machine and focus their time on other important jobs. The advanced autonomy kit also calculates depth more accurately at larger distances, allowing the tractor to pull more equipment and drive faster.
• Autonomous 5ML Orchard Tractor for Air Blast Spraying: Protecting crops through air blast spraying is a challenging and repetitive job. Featuring the latest autonomy kit with added Lidar sensors to address the dense canopies found in orchards, the initial machine will be offered with a diesel engine. A battery electric tractor of comparable size and capacity to existing diesel 5M/ML models on the market today will follow.
• 460 P-Tier Autonomous Articulated Dump Truck (ADT) for Quarry Operations: Quarries supply the essential raw materials vital for building roads, buildings, and infrastructure, and it’s a complex process to mine, process, and transport materials. Using the second-generation kit, the ADT will handle the repetitive tasks of transporting material around the quarry to facilitate different steps in the cycle.
• Autonomous Battery Electric Mower for Commercial Landscaping: Commercial landscaping is a highly competitive industry and having the staff to support different bids is essential. The autonomous commercial mower leverages the same camera technology as other Deere autonomous machines, but on a reduced scale since the machine has a smaller footprint. With two cameras on the
front, left, right, and rear, 360-degree coverage is achieved, and staff can focus on other aspects of the job.
Select machines will be autonomy ready from the factory and the second-generation perception system will be available as a retrofit kit for certain existing machines, providing customers with multiple paths to adoption based on where they are in their technology journey.

Metallica Inspires New CASE Compact Track Loader
CNH designs special edition CASE compact track loader inspired by Metallica frontman James Hetfield.
A special edition compact track loader from CNH construction brand CASE Construction Equipment was on display at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, USA at the Helping Hands charity concert. Held on December 13, this annual event is organized by the rock band Metallica’s All Within My Hands charitable foundation.
Following its debut, this custom-designed CASE TV450B compact track loader is destined for use at the ranch of Metallica frontman and co-founder James
Hetfield. Hetfield commissioned the design as part of an equipment supply agreement with our CASE brand.
The CNH Design team brought their expertise to the project to develop proposals inspired by Hetfield’s career and persona.
• The winning proposal was submitted by John Piper, a rising design talent here at CNH. Piper crafted a concept that recalled one of Hetfield’s tattoos, a skull with wings, together with the sharp iconic font reminiscent of his band’s graph-
ics and album artwork. He also drew from the pinstriping in Hetfield’s private hotrod collection. All these elements were integrated atop a sandy camouflage pattern reminiscent of Hetfield’s signature Snakebyte electric guitar – a direct request from the artist.
• CNH Senior Designer Darin Weisensel led the production phase of this project, working to bring the custom design to life on the CASE TV450B.
Built at the CASE production facility in Wichita, USA, the TV450B compact track loader is an industry fixture. Tough and rugged, it performs tasks such as digging, loading and dumping in commercial and residential construction activities as well as landscaping.

Maximize Winter Work For Land Management Pros
For land clearing contractors, winter often brings a slowdown in work, especially in regions where vegetation management takes a backseat during colder weather.
However, with the right strategy and equipment, winter can present an opportunity to take on new jobs. By offering specialized, seasonally tailored services, contractors can maintain consistent revenue streams and even grow their client base.
Diamond Mowers’ versatile attachments are designed to help professionals tackle a wide range of winter jobs with efficiency and precision. Following are six revenuegenerating opportunities to keep contractors’ businesses thriving all year long:
1. Winter Storm Cleanup
Winter storms can wreak havoc, leaving behind fallen limbs, tree trunks, and debris that obstruct roads and pathways. By offering prompt storm cleanup services, contractors can address urgent commu-
nity needs while generating valuable revenue. Assisting property owners and municipalities in clearing hazardous obstructions not only restores safety but also reinforces their role as a reliable resource in times of crisis.
“When severe winter weather strikes, it can leave a trail of destruction and debris that clutters the landscape and creates significant issues for landowners.
Quickly clearing this debris is essential for ensuring safety, supporting sustainability, and restoring the land’s functionality and appearance so landowners can get back to work,” says Jordan Hagena, new product specialist at Diamond Mowers. With the right equipment, storm debris can be efficiently broken down and removed. For example, Dia-
mond offers disc mulchers engineered for use with skid steers and excavators that can cut through trees and brush up to 14” diameter and shred material up to 6” diameter. Diamond’s drum mulchers are compatible with skid steers and excavators, too. For skid steers, the mulchers come in open and depth control models and are designed to continuously mulch material up to 9” in diameter. For excavators, Diamond offers 30” and 50” depth control options, delivering powerful, versatile solutions for storm cleanups of all sizes.
2. Agricultural Field Preparation
Winter is ideal for agricultural operations to prepare fields for spring planting because clearing stumps, brush, and other vegetation during
the off-season helps to lay the groundwork for a productive growing season.
“Offering winter field prep services can be a highly profitable niche, especially for farms and agricultural operations looking to maximize their spring yield,” Hagena notes. “Starting early provides more time to thoroughly assess and prepare a property for planting or construction.”
A brush cutter is an excellent tool for efficiently cutting through thick grass, shrubs, branches, and small trees. This versatile, all-in-one attachment combines power and adaptability, making it ideal for reclaiming property, controlling overgrowth, and managing unwanted vegetation. For large-scale
land clearing, Diamond’s
Skid Steer Disc Mulcher
BD Pro X is perfect for processing heavy-duty vegetation due to a twospeed motor that delivers industry-leading torque for optimal performance and productivity. Additionally,
the
DC
is designed for small to mid-size skid steers and features a bent-axis piston motor for faster spool-up and greater force to tackle larger and denser material with ease.

3. Vegetation Control for Wildlife Management & Trail Maintenance
The cold months present an ideal time for landowners to manage their properties for wildlife, whether preparing for hunting season or supporting conservation efforts. Controlling overgrown vegetation improves access for wildlife and helps sustain a healthy ecosystem.
“Removing dead or diseased trees is more efficient during winter because the frozen ground minimizes disruption caused by heavy equipment, and the hardened sap in trees makes them easier to cut and mulch,” explains Hagena.
For large brush and tree removal, a depth control drum mulcher is a highly effective tool. Designed to pull entire trees into its deck, this robust attachment is built to withstand heavy ground engagement, making it ideal for demanding land management tasks. Diamond’s Drum Mulcher DC Pro and Pro X are equipped with sharp planer teeth, which deliver maximum productivity and help to create an aesthetically pleasing mulch on the first pass.
The Excavator Disc Mulcher processes material up to 12” in diameter to assist in forestry management and land reclamation, while a stump grinder is essential for clearing remaining trunks and roots once trees are removed.
Public parks, private lands, and recreational areas also require maintenance during the winter to keep trails and pathways safe and accessible for hikers, snowmobilers, and cross-country skiers. By providing these services, land management professionals equipped with the right tools can deliver significant value to park services and private landowners, creating an excellent off-season revenue stream.
4. Fire Mitigation Services
Fire mitigation doesn’t pause for winter. In wildfireprone regions, the colder months provide an ideal opportunity to clear potential fire hazards, such as overgrown brush and dead trees, helping to reduce risks before the next fire season.
“Thinning or removing these fuels creates open areas that act as barriers, reducing the spread and intensity of fires and making it harder for
them to encroach on valuable land,” Hagena says. “Contractors can offer this essential service to landowners in fire-prone areas, such as rural regions or those susceptible to seasonal dry spells, as a proactive measure to protect homes, farmland, and other properties from the devastating effects of wildfires.”
Mulching heads and brush cutters are excellent for managing thick, flammable vegetation, helping to reduce fire risks before dry conditions set in. Diamond’s Drum Mulcher Open Drum (OD) Pro X takes fire mitigation and cleanup a step further by efficiently mulching vegetation or the burnt remnants of previous fires, returning valuable nutrients to the soil and fostering a healthier ecosystem.
Outfitted with Twin Maul Carbide Teeth®, the OD Pro X delivers exceptional durability and performance, excelling in heavy abrasion and ground contact while offering a significantly longer lifespan than traditional steel teeth. These interchangeable teeth provide balance and adaptability across various terrains, including rocky landscapes and fire-prone areas. With reduced maintenance re-
quirements, the OD Pro X is a dependable solution for rigorous applications like fire mitigation.
5.
Infrastructure Protection
Protecting roads, utility lines, and other critical infrastructure from encroaching vegetation is a year-round priority. Winter provides a perfect window for this work as reduced foliage allows easier access to dense vegetation. Utility companies and municipalities often seek contractors equipped with brush cutters or mulchers for right-of-way maintenance to clear vegetation near power lines, roadways, and pipelines. These services not only improve roadway safety and drainage but also reduce erosion and mitigate infrastructure risks during harsh winter conditions.
6. Site Preparation for New Developments
Winter is an ideal time for site preparation, offering land clearing contractors a chance to assist developers in clearing land for upcoming construction projects. The season’s frozen, hardened ground is firmer, which prevents rut-
ting, while reduced foliage improves visibility, making it easier to work and mulch efficiently. Additionally, the cold causes vegetation to harden, allowing it to shatter and process more easily during mulching.
“While most construction shifts indoors during the winter, site preparation and development can continue because contractors can take advantage of frozen ground and reduced foliage to streamline the process,” notes Hagena.
Winter doesn’t have to mean a slowdown for land management professionals.
With the right equipment, contractors can fill their winter schedules providing seasonal services that sustain steady revenue streams. From storm cleanup and fire prevention to agricultural field preparation and rightof-way maintenance, these winter projects diversify service offerings while maximizing the value of existing equipment investments. By seizing these opportunities, land management professionals can remain profitable and productive all year long. SP

B.C. Supports ForestSector Manufacturing
New support for forest-sector manufacturers throughout the province will create and protect jobs, strengthen local economies and diversify the range of fibre sources used to manufacture high-value, made-in-B.C. forest products.
“Using available fibre wisely is an important part of B.C.’s plan for sustainable forestry,” said Diana Gibson, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation. “The BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund is partnering with forestry companies throughout the province to grow and stabilize their operations and get the most out of our fibre supply, while producing more made-in-B.C. engineered wood products.”
Through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund (BCMJF), the Government of B.C. is contributing as much as $5.1 million toward seven forest-sector capital projects and five planning projects in communities throughout the province. These projects are supporting forest-product manufacturers to innovate their business lines and grow their operations, supporting a strong and resilient forest sector throughout B.C. that
is focused on producing leading-edge, high-quality wood products and biomaterials.
Located in Maple Ridge, Cedarland Forest Products Ltd. produces cedar lumber and profiled cedar products, such as siding, decking and panelling. It will receive as much as $1.3 million to buy and install new high-temperature kilns and a moulder, allowing the company to diversify its fibre sources to include underutilized species and reduce its reliance on old-growth cedar. The project will enable Cedarland to produce new thermally modified wood products, access new markets and create 23 new forestry jobs.
Gilbert Smith Forest Products is a family-owned-andoperated lumber mill in Barriere, manufacturing specialty
cedar products. It will receive as much as $1.1 million for facility modernization and new equipment that will enable the production of new, in-demand products from a wider range of fibre inputs. This project will expand the range of value-added products made in-house, increase productivity and create nine jobs.

To date, the BCMJF has provided incentives with more than $600 million flowing into forest-product manufacturing, leading to the direct creation and protection of more than 3,000 forest-sector jobs. Most of these jobs are in regional, remote and Indigenous communities.
Nearly one-quarter of all wood-product manufacturers in B.C have applied to the program, demonstrating that producers are investing in the future of forestry. The funding has spurred significant growth in off-site, prefabricated housing-component manufacturing, allowing more homes to be built faster using B.C. wood.
The BCMJF has also led to increased production of mass timber, engineered wood and bioproducts, with B.C. based companies leading the way in innovative uses of waste wood, residu-
“Tolko’s history began, and remains, strongly rooted in B.C.,” said Pino Pucci, CEO and president, Tolko Industries Ltd. “Today’s announcement enables us to further invest to support our people, customers, communities and forests – fostering innovation and leveraging B.C.’s globally superior technical fibre-strength properties to deliver quality products to our customers. We appreciate the B.C. government’s support of strategic investments that will accelerate our growth as a producer, marketer and distributor of specialty, valueadded and engineered wood products.”
Clean and Competitive: A Blueprint for B.C.’s Industrial Future lays out the Province’s
More than $1 billion is being invested across the 121 capital projects funded through the BCMJF, with almost $128 million committed from B.C. so far, unlocking nearly $900 million in private-sector and other public investment.
Every $1 million invested results in $7 million in total direct capital investments in B.C., $590,000 in tax revenue to the Province and $5.3 million in provincial GDP during the capital construction phase.
Funded projects will create more than 1,800 jobs and protect more than 2,300 jobs. SP

• More than a loader: 360° rotation, maximum dumping height and static loading thanks to its innovative kinematics.
• More than just a telescopic handler: impressive lifting capacities, enhanced safety and easy handling of the forks under ground level.
• More than just a tool carrier: greater versatility with the CONNECT quick coupler, Mecalac Tiltrotator compatibility and optimized ground speed management independent of attachment feed.
Introduction Of The 12-Series
The 12-Series is a continuation of our iconic 12MTX model, with a modern de-
sign and technical improvements.
It has three main objectives:
• Revolutionizing the user experience with enhanced functionalities and new innovations.
• Offering customers tailored solutions for a rapid return on investment and reduced operating costs.
• To meet the needs of performance-oriented customers who demand productivity-oriented machines.
Each model embodies Mecalac’s reliability, versatility and safety standards.
The 12MSX
Versatile and cost-effective, the 12MSX offers a level of performance and reliability that surpasses traditional 10ton excavators, while optimizing costs. It retains the same
architecture as the 12MTX, the same compactness (2710 mm / 8’9’’ turning diameter), the same 0.75m3 / 0.98yd3 loader bucket and can lift up to 4T / 8,818 lbs at 360°. Its 55 kW (75 hp) engine requires no AdBlue.
The 12MTX
Of course, the 12MTX retains its extreme compactness, its large loader bucket capacity, its 85 kW (115 hp) engine and its impressive lifting performance of up to 4T / 8,818 lbs at 360°. What’s more, the list of optional features has been extended to include advanced options such as a float boom function, tiltrotator and joystick steering, all of which further enhance productivity and versatility.
The 12MRX
It retains all the benefits of the 12MTX, but differs in that it has a more powerful attachment drive pump, wide Heavy Duty axles, travel speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) and greater tractive effort. Most of the new productivity options are standard on the 12MRX. This is the model that incorporates the most advanced technologies.
The All-In-One Solution For Responsible Worksites
A single machine for digging, loading, handling and carrying tools. In the context of climate change, where the need to reduce CO2 emissions is a major
global challenge, these machines represent a real asset. Less emissions, less noise, less maintenance and fewer movements on construction sites.
“The 12-Series confirms our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction,” said Alexandre MARCHETTA, President of the Mecalac Group. “We are proud to offer three new versions of our iconic excavator, each designed to meet specific objectives while respecting the quality and safety standards for which Mecalac is renowned. The 12-Series stands out for its innovative features and is our key asset for all urban worksites.” SP

Winter Ready: Essential Tips For Preparing Your Street Sweepers
As the winter season draws near, it’s crucial for municipalities and contractors to winterize their street sweepers to withstand the coming harsh weather.
Effective winterization helps ensure that sweepers stay operational and in peak condition, minimizing downtime and costly repairs.
Elgin Sweeper, a leader in street sweeper manufacturing with over a century of expertise, produces sweepers for general maintenance, industrial sites, and airports. Drawing from their extensive experience, Elgin Sweeper shares best practices for winterizing street sweepers to maintain functionality and longevity through winter’s challenging conditions.
1. Thorough Cleaning and Inspection
Before temperatures plunge, give your street sweeper a deep clean. Clear out all debris from the hopper, brushes, and other areas that collect dirt. This is also a prime opportunity to inspect the sweeper for any signs of damage, including cracks, rust, or worn parts.
Identifying and addressing these issues early helps avoid more serious and expensive repairs when freezing conditions set in.
2. Drain and Prepare Water Systems
Water systems are particularly susceptible to freezing, which can cause damage. For sweepers in storage, completely drain all water tanks, hoses, and pumps to prevent ice buildup. For sweepers in active use during winter, add a non-toxic antifreeze solution to the water system to prevent freezing. This is especially critical for sweepers that rely on water for dust control.
3. Battery Maintenance
Battery performance can drop in cold weather, so it’s wise to store both the sweeper and its battery in a temperature-controlled environment when not in use. Fully charge the high-voltage battery before
long-term storage to maintain optimal battery health and ensure readiness when the sweeper is back in operation.
4. Protect the Fuel System
Cold weather can lead to condensation in fuel tanks, which risks contaminating the fuel. To reduce this risk, keep the fuel tank full to limit air exposure. Adding a fuel stabilizer also helps prevent fuel degradation. For longterm storage, consider draining the fuel system entirely to avoid complications.
5. Inspect and Refresh Lubricants and Fluids
Cold temperatures can cause lubricants to thicken, reducing their efficiency. Be sure to check all fluid levels, including engine oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolant, and replace any fluids that need refreshing. For optimal performance, use winter-grade lubricants, and lubricate all
moving parts to prevent stiffness or wear in low temperatures.
6. Shield Metal Surfaces from Corrosion
Winter weather can accelerate corrosion on metal components. Applying a corrosion inhibitor or grease to exposed metal surfaces helps prevent rust and structural damage. Pay special attention to moisture-prone areas, like joints and hinges, to maintain the sweeper’s durability and performance.
7. Maintain Brushes and Brooms
Inspect the sweeper’s
brushes and brooms for signs of wear. Replace any worn or damaged parts to ensure effective sweeping. Consider adjusting broom settings to handle debris commonly found in winter, such as sand and salt.
8. Extra Measures for Long-Term Storage
For sweepers stored over extended periods, take extra steps to protect them. Keep the sweeper in a dry, covered area, shielded from weather exposure. Cover it with a tarp or similar protection to prevent moisture buildup, and ensure all drains remain open so that
any remaining water can escape.
By following these winterization steps, municipalities and contractors can keep their sweepers running smoothly and avoid seasonal breakdowns. Proper winter preparation extends equipment lifespan, supporting public safety by ensuring cleaner, safer streets in the toughest winter weather. Pettibone Introduces Extendo
1536X Telehandler
Pettibone introduces the Extendo 1536X telehandler to its X-Series product lineup. In addition to providing heavy-duty material handling performance on construction jobsites, the 1536X is designed to operate with a baler attachment for industries that routinely move pipe or poles.
The Extendo 1536X features a 2-section boom compromised of formed boom plates that offer greater strength while reducing weight. The boom design gives the telehandler an impressive maximum load capacity of 16,000 pounds with standard fork frames. Even when extended to its maximum lift height of 36 feet, the machine can lift up to 13,000 pounds.
The 1536X is powered by a 120-horsepower Deutz
TCD 3.6 Tier 4 Final diesel engine. Mounted onto a side pod, the engine offers easy accessibility to components and daily service checks, while still allowing for exceptional curbside visibility and a ground clearance of 20 inches. The telehandler has a 30-gallon fuel tank and comes standard with foamfilled tires.
For operators in the oil and gas market and utility industry, the 1536X offers a baler attachment, also commonly known as a pipe and pole grapple. The implement is designed specifically for stockyards and other pipe and pole handling applications. The machine delivers a maximum load capacity of 14,700 pounds when equipped with the baler.
The Extendo 1536X comes standard with X-Command®, a Pettibone telematics program that offers real-time access to machine data, saving time and money for equipment owners and service technicians.
Built on Pettibone’s nextgen X-Series platform, the 1536X features an advanced boom design. Boom deflection is minimized for better control and accuracy when placing loads. Signifi-
cant boom overlap provides smoother operation and reduces the contact forces on wear pads, thereby extending service life.
An external, bottommounted extend cylinder further reduces the load on wear pads by up to 50 percent. The cylinder location provides improved service access to internal boom components. Fastener-less wear pads also simplify service, and heavyduty extension chains help to ensure stable boom functions.
Pettibone’s tried-and-true hydraulic circuit delivers exceptional controllability and operating feel, while enhancing efficiency and cycle speeds. Cylinder cushioning dampens the end of strokes— both extending and retracting—to avoid the wear and tear of hard, jarring stops, while also helping to prevent the potential spilling of a load.
The 1536X uses a single lift cylinder that improves operator sight lines and has twin hydraulic lines for tilt and auxiliary plumbing.
The drivetrain and axles are optimized to provide greater tractive effort with minimal tradeoff on top-end speed. A pintle-hitch mount adds versatility for towing. Built for use on rough terrain, the machine offers full-time 4-wheel-drive with a limitedslip front-axle differential. Tight-steer-angle capability provides an efficient turning
radius.
Powershift transmission offers three speeds, forward and reverse.
The Extendo operator cab maintains Pettibone’s ergonomic seat, pedal, joystick and steering wheel positions, while optimizing line of sight in all directions. An analog/ LCD gauge cluster comes standard, and an optional 7-inch digital display with an integrated backup camera is also available. The cab also offers enhanced climate control, flat bolt-in glass, a split-door
design, an openable rear window, lockable storage under the seat, and water-resistant components for easy interior washdown.
All-steel fuel and hydraulic tanks are built to resist damage, and the lockable fuel-fill is in a clean, accessible location. Options include solid tires, a sling hook for additional load security, a high-output LED lighting package, and a variety of attachments. SP

The Beton Cap Series provides a range of concrete mixers with capacities of 5, 8 or 9 cubic yards, combined with a powerful pump capable of delivering up to 105 cubic yards per hour at a pumping
pressure of 725 or 1,015 psi. The patented PULSAR pump design minimizes surge and ensures fast, even distribution of concrete, making it ideal for a wide range of placement applications.
For years, Mecbo pumps have been well established and respected in European markets but lacked availability in the American markets due to the absence of a service and support structure. Blending
have developed a smoother, more consistent telescoping experience, even under load. This improvement allows operators to handle loads with reduced resistance and strain, streamlining tasks and enhancing safety on the job. A handle has also been added to the crane, allowing for more accurate load rotation and control with a full 360 degrees of maneuverability. This added control is crucial for operators needing to position loads with precision in tight or high-stakes environments.
A high-visibility yellow powder coat finish now replaces the previous zincplated coating, boosting both durability and corrosion resistance. Additionally, new dual rating decals displaying both imperial and metric load capacities at various boom
Blastcrete’s industry-leading mixing, pumping and placing expertise with Mecbo’s products, the two companies teamed up to provide top-tier products backed by first-class support. The Mecbo pumps complement the Blastcrete line with units offering higher pumping volumes for structural concrete applications requiring larger aggregate material. Additionally, Blastcrete stocks a full inventory of Mecbo pump parts to help customers minimize downtime should a repair be required.
Blastcrete co-CEO Scott Knighton said that market feedback on the Beton Cap has been very positive.
“The formation of Mecbo America enables us to offer

Operators of both diesel and electric models can enjoy the convenience of dedicated work and maintenance stations, as well as a user-friendly radio control. The handheld radio remote control bucks the current industry trend by featuring toggles instead of a touch screen. This design eliminates the risk of digital malfunction prevalent when working with wet concrete.
The Beton Cap offers multiple power options in the form of 115-, 160- or 210-horsepower (85-, 120- or 157-kilo-
watt) diesel engine models. Customers looking to use the pump in settings where diesel exhaust would be prohibitive to the project have the option of a 200-horsepower (150-kilowatt) electric motor. Models range in weight from 9 to 19 tons. The state-of-the-art mixer-pump is seamlessly integrated onto an axle with a durable tracked undercarriage. Adaptable to various terrains, the pump can be effortlessly installed on wheels or trucks.
Factory options include soundproofing for work in densely populated urban areas, a hopper screen vibrator for harsh mixes and an automatic lubrication system. SP

Manitoba Plans Multi-Year Infrastructure Investment Strategy
Multi-year infrastructure investment strategy details roadmap to improved highways, airports and water infrastructure for Manitobans.
The Multi-year Infrastructure Investment Strategy, which outlines planned capital investments for highway, airport, water-related and general infrastructure over the next five years, is now available, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced at the end of 2024.
“Building the Manitoba of tomorrow starts with this new visionary plan,” said Naylor. “The Infrastructure Investment Strategy outlines our government’s priorities in connecting Manitobans across the province for years to come. Many of these projects will improve road safety, ensuring families can travel safely while also creating new opportunities to expand our economy and create thriving businesses and jobs.”
The strategy provides a comprehensive overview of the Department of Transpor-
tation and Infrastructure’s project priorities through to 2029 to improve transparency and provide advance notice to stakeholders and rightsholders, while still providing flexibility to accommodate emerging issues, the minister noted.
Some multi-year project highlights include:
• twinning of Trans-Canada Highway from five kilometres (km) west of Provincial Road (PR) 301 to the Ontario boundary to improve public safety and support trade through this major corridor;
• interchange construction on the south Perimeter Highway at McGillivray Boulevard and St. Anne’s Road as part of the Perimeter Freeway Initiative;
• projects on PTH 75 including a structure renewal at Morris River 0.6 km north of PTH 23 and surface reconstruction from
6.6 km north of PTH 14 to 3.4 km south of PTH 23;
• $600 million, conditional on a memorandum of understanding, to enhance flood protection to communities in the Lake Manitoba-Lake St. Martin area and to strengthen Manitoba’s existing network of flood mitigation infrastructure;
• progress toward construction of a new airport at Wasagamack Airport;
• continued work toward construction of a bridge at Sea Falls;
• intersection improvements on Trans-Canada Highway at Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 5; and
• surface reconstruction on PTH 6 from 0.6 km south of PR 239 to Fairford River.
“We’re pleased to see the Manitoban government outline a strong com-
mitment to improve the infrastructure that keeps Manitobans moving, as we know the importance of our roads, bridges and flood protection systems to creating a strong economy,” said Chris Lorenc, president and CEO, Manitoba Heavy Construction Association. “A five-year plan ensures we’re able to meet the demands required by these important projects and we look forward to advancing Manitoba as a transportation hub not just in Canada, but across the continent.”
Projects outlined within this document are organized to reflect projects under four strategic investment categories: infrastructure renewal, economic development, climate resiliency and connectivity and innovation. These investments will strengthen and complement projects under ongoing initiatives such as the Trade and Commerce Grid Initiative, Perimeter Freeway Initiative, and Enhancing National Trade Corridors Strategy, noted the minister.
These investments also
build on previously announced projects such $30 million to build a northern corridor to the Port of Churchill to export resources to reflect the Manitoba government’s goal of making Manitoba an inter-continental trade gateway, a commitment of $15 million over several years for the capital redevelopment of the Thompson airport and continued support for the development of the CentrePort Canada Rail Park. New Scavenger Wash Circuit From Superior
Superior Industries announces the completion of engineering and the immediate availability of the Scavenger Wash Circuit.
This unique system is designed to help producers recover valuable sand particles lost during the washing of fine materials, boosting profitability while reducing waste.
This predesigned cyclone, sump, and pump package works in combination with a Fine Material Screw Washer. The Scavenger Wash Circuit captures fine materials in the 50-200 mesh range that can overflow the weirs and end up
in waste ponds. That sand is captured by the circuit and redirected into profitable product piles.
“Unfortunately, many sand producers experience material loss at the back end of their screw and don’t even know it,” says Brett Casanova, the washing product manager at Superior Industries. “The Scavenger Wash Circuit helps producers recover tons of fine material, returning it to their stockpile for sale while reducing the frequency of pond cleanouts and eliminating the need for expensive standalone recovery systems.”
Key Benefits of the Scavenger Wash Circuit include:
• Recover Lost Material: Capture fine material lost to the back end of your screw and return it to the saleable stockpile.
• No Standalone Recovery System: Eliminate the need for costly (and sometimes complicated) standalone ultrafines recovery systems.
• Less Pond Cleanouts: Recover tons of valuable material before it reaches your waste ponds, reducing the need for cleanouts. Moreover, the Scavenger Wash Circuit is designed to

Western Star Transports Martin Mars Bomber
Western Star had the honor of transporting a piece of aviation history to the aviation museum in Victoria, BC.
Martin Mars bombers were the largest aircraft in the world, roughly the size of a Boeing 747, built for US military service and utilized at the end of World War II for about six years before being retired. Only seven were built. The planes were converted to water bombers in the early 1960’s.
Coulson Aviation hired Nickel Bros from Nanaimo who used a Western Star 4900SF truck to haul the iconic 120-foot-long aircraft from the Victoria airport to the BC Aviation Museum where it will be part of a permanent historical exhibit at the museum, commemorating a 50-year legacy in Canadian aviation forest firefighting.
“It’s not often that you get to say you were part of something historic,” said Alex Martin-Banzer, Western Star Brand Marketing & Communications Manager. “The aircraft has a wingspan of 200 feet and weighs approximately 76,000 pounds when it’s empty. Western Star is honored to have been
able to provide a heavy haul truck that could carefully guide this amazing aircraft to its final home.”

Tim Nickel of Nickel Brothers Moving explained, “The Martin Mars bomber has to land on the water, so the aircraft had to go through a very tight marine operation before being placed on the transport to the museum. We modified our truck to accommodate the weight of the aircraft by adding two additional 8-tire axles to allow for ground loading requirements. We also had to secure the aircraft in multiple locations to ensure the integrity of the hull and the stability of the

Autocars & The Missing M16
After a sweaty day of hauling gravel-laden trucks and dodging mopeds, will some beer-fueled detective work recover the missing M16? By Ed Miller
While on our two-week deployment before we left Vietnam, two of our tractors were Autocars. They were the most powerful trucks in our battalion. These machines were not much to look at, especially painted olive green, but their (approximately) 600 horsepower would damn-
surely “haul the mail.”
Both of our Autocars were used for hauling crusher-run gravel from our Hue barge location, which was about 60 miles south of our worksite, and for transporting heavy equipment. I’m not sure how much weight a fully loaded belly dump carried when
hauling gravel, but each trailer was overflowing when it left the loading site, so the payload probably weighed between 70,000 to 80,000 pounds. Each tractor was equipped with a two-stick 5 X 4 transmission. With these heavy loads, you could shift 10 to 12 gears before attaining 25 miles per hour. By the time you got to 25 mph, either a fully-loaded-people-hanging-onto-the-sides bus, or a moped carrying two or three passengers would pull out, or stop, in front of you. After either having to slow down to nothing, or sometimes completely stopping, you would have to start changing gears all over again, just to have a similar incident happen, requiring the need to begin changing all those gears again. Yes, each 60-mile trip took quite a while to complete, and the 5 X 4 transmission gave a whole new meaning to “cogswapping.”
The fun part of each run, if there was a fun part, took place upon our arrival at the destination, which was a road-bed construction site. The roadway had been completed to the point that dirt had been packed down and graded smooth. The next step was the application of several inches of crusher-run gravel, which would also need to be graded smoothly, so the final step, the asphalt pavement, could be laid on top of the crusher-run.
Anyway, without slowing from our 25 to 30 mph, after an engineer’s high sign, we would hit both switches, and both hoppers would open. (Oh, yes. This process was sometimes waved-off due to some local moped driver stopping in the middle of the road to observe what we were doing.) When that happened, we would find a wide place to turn around, and then head back in the opposite direction to finish what we had started. Most of us became quite proficient at spreading the gravel so smoothly and level, that the graders did not have much to do, because it looked as though a motor grader had already been at work. All that needed to be done now was to pack it and pave on top of it.
I certainly am glad I was able to drive an Autocar while they were still around.
Our small detachment was assigned several tractors and lowboys, including the two Autocars, which we used each morning to haul our equipment to the job site. We were working in gleaming white sand, and the temperature was over 100 degrees each day. Throughout the day, rain would fall; the sun would come out and cause steam to rise from the sand; it would rain some more; then more sun and steam. We didn’t have teak benches to sit upon, but we felt like we were in the middle of a gigantic sauna!
Oh yes, do you remember the little girls with the ice-cold beer at the convoy point 60 miles away? They must have had sisters outside of Quang Tri who also knew the habits of the American soldiers. The temperature required us to stay hydrated in these awful conditions, and by the time lunch rolled around each day, “feeling no pain” would best describe us after drinking these wonderfully cold and soothing beverages for six or seven hours.
We were required to always keep our weapons with us, but one of the guys, Bob, (the friend we had pulledout of his locker during the mortar attack) figured his M16 would stay much cleaner if he left it in his parked Autocar, rather than ridingit-around on his bulldozer all day. This worked okay for him until we returned to our trucks for lunch one day, and he noticed that his M16 had vanished. What a fix he was in—high-as-a-Georgia pine and his M16 was gone.
Earlier that morning, one of our guys had observed the usual number of kids around the site, including our beer servers. Now, at lunch, all the boys had high-tailed it and were nowhere to be seen. (Thankfully, our beer girls were still on duty!)
Bob asked for my help, so we composed ourselves enough to act like bad-asses, although two shirtless and extremely suntanned dudes with Colt 45s resembled armed surfers more than badasses. We decided our best course of action was to just pretend we knew what we were doing by marching right into the middle of the closest village. We knew maybe five Vietnamese words, but we hoped we would be able to make them understand us. Bob and I walked about two miles down a path and found a small welcoming committee waiting for us. Somehow, we communicated our need to speak with the village elder, and sure enough, we were led to his hut. By this point, what we really needed were a few more beers, but we accepted his (repeated) offers for hot tea, hoping we weren’t about to be poisoned. The tea was poured into regular drinking glasses, and Bob and I watched strange things swirling throughout the liquid. (These
may have been tea leaves, but are tea leaves different colors?) Realizing we had to die someday anyway, we sipped the surprisingly tasty glasses of tea, although we declined his offer of refills. We painstakingly explained Bob’s missing M16 predicament, including the fact of the young boy’s presence at our job site. The village father figure scared the daylights out of us when, quite unexpectedly, he loudly screamed something at another Vietnamese man sitting barely three feet from us. That man jumped up, ran outside, and started yelling himself. Others started yelling and all Bob and I could do was wonder what the hell was going on, and what we had done to cause their strange behavior. For some reason, probably alcohol, these outbursts struck us as hilarious, and we damned-near choked trying to keep from laughing in the old man’s face, not to mention spitting-out the excellent mouthfuls of tea.
The old man informed us he would do all he could to find the gun, or at least we think that is what he said. We offered our thanks by bowing and shaking hands, and then we walked back to where the trucks were parked. Fifteen

minutes later, he walked up to us, accompanied by a nottoo-happy-to-be-along kid, and (we think) he asked if Bob’s truck had been parked in the same location all day. We assured him that it had not been moved. The old guy then walked over to the truck and stood by the passenger-side running board. He then took four or five steps directly away from the truck, and then turned left 90 degrees and took a few more steps. He bent down, dug down
in the sand a few inches and voila—he produced the M16! The kid was looking down like he was staring another hole in the sand, and he wouldn’t make eye contact with anyone. He must have been thinking of his punishment upon his return to the village.
Without a doubt, Bob and I were certain of the fact that beer helped us recover his M16, so we thanked the old guy by giving him a sixpack of cold ones, plus all the C-rations we had left. I’ll bet the little culprit’s arms were sore by the time he car-
ried those heavy items back to his village, because Pops loaded his ass down! Thank you, Lord, you helped us through another one! SP

Cummins Launches New 6.7L Turbo Diesels
Cummins has unveiled the new 2025 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel Pickup engine system for Ram Heavy Duty, their most advanced diesel pickup engine yet.
As part of this, Cummins and Stellantis have extended their partnership to supply Ram Brand through 2030, paving the way for continued innovation among the most iconic Pickup brands in the business.
Cummins’ 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel advanced engine system and powertrain will be offered in the recently announced 2025 Ram 2500, 3500 Heavy Duty Pickups and Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks.
“We’ve improved the power, efficiency, serviceability and drivability of our latest 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine, making the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup the most desirable yet,” said Jane Beaman, Vice President – Global On-Highway and Pickup at Cummins.
The next generation of
the Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine system was designed with steadfast commitment to reliability and durability, living up to the 106-year-old brand customers expect, while setting new benchmarks for performance and efficiency.
Cummins’ latest offering delivers enhanced performance alongside High-Output ratings of 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb.-ft. of torque for Pickups, and 360 horsepower and 800 lb.-ft. of torque for Chassis Cab. In close collaboration with Ram and their powertrain providers, the 2025 Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine is optimized with a brand-new 8-speed transmission, providing the right combinations of power, responsiveness and drivability.
“Whether you are towing heavy loads for work or pulling your weekend camper, Cummins 6.7 Turbo Diesel is ready for any project. Our engineers have integrated critical, yet versatile, high-performance engine technologies that customers expect at lower emissions,” said Jennifer Rager, General Manager – Pickup Business.
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Ram Brand and introduce the best diesel Pickup engine in the industry.”
All 2025 Ram Heavy Duty truck models powered by Cummins received noticeable gains in acceleration and power, driving home stronger overall truck performance and towing capability.
The Ram 2500 gained improvements in towing
speeds and responsiveness, with faster 0-60 mph and New 2025 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel for Ram Heavy Duty Pickups especially when towing heavy loads. These enhancements promise drivers smoother transient responses and greater confidence under towing conditions. Noise, vibration and harshness were also improved using helical valve train synchronizing gears which enable a quieter ride.
The latest power offering for Pickups and Chassis Cab from Cummins includes advanced emissions air handling that also introduces a new airflow management design. This accompanies a new high-pressure fuel delivery system that offers top feed dry service injectors and a new fuel pump. Cummins’ newest variable-geometry turbocharger for the new 6.7-liter delivers intelligent conditionbased power output that is now faster and more efficient.
Cummins has also introduced new features that make it easier to service the engine system and get back on the road. Software updates can now be executed from the comfort and convenience of inside the truck.
In addition, the oil filter and dual fuel filter are now thoughtfully positioned to enable serviceability from the top side of the engine, improving the ease of maintenance—resulting in faster and less complex servicing for the 2025 Cummins 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel.
Additionally, the Cummins 6.7 Turbo Diesel Pickup and Chassis Cab engine systems offer significantly improved cold-start management with the integration of advanced glow plug technology. By reducing the wait to start time, this en-
hancement ensures reliable vehicle operation even in the harshest and most extreme weather conditions.
Together since 1989, Cummins and Ram set the standard for innovation, power and durability; and the two are marking more than 35 years of partnership that will continue beyond the decade. Built in Columbus, Indiana, the 6.7 Turbo Diesel has evolved from the first generation 5.9-liter, 160-horsepower to today’s 6.7-liter engine up to 430 horsepower. SP

Mecalac Brings Revotruck To North America
Mecalac has launched the Revotruck in North America.
Available in 6- and 9-ton payload configurations, the Revotruck is the first site dumper to feature a rotating cab, taking operator safety to a new level with maximum visibility in all directions. The rotating cab also increases operator safety by eliminating the need to twist and turn for visibility of the travel path and jobsite. With exceptional off-road capabilities, the Revotruck is a valuable tool for construction, concrete, landscape and golf course applications.
“Careful, thorough research went into the Revotruck’s design. We studied standard site dumpers and identified potential safety hazards for operators to engineer the safest, most ergonomic site dumper on the market from the ground up,” said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America. “The Revotruck illustrates our attention to detail and ability to understand

customer needs. The North American market is getting a meticulously designed machine with operator safety and comfort at the forefront of every aspect.”
Operators can rotate the Revotruck’s cab 225 degrees with the touch of a button, allowing them to maintain their vision and focus on the job, while also staying aware of any surrounding obstacles. This sets the Revotruck apart from other site dumpers on the market that offer limited visibility. The cab rotation and swivel of the bed from left to right increases efficiency by eliminating the need to reposition the machine when going from loading to dumping. For example, when filling a trench, the operator utilizes the swivel feature to position the body for loading and then, without repositioning the truck, swivels the body for dumping directly into a trench, significantly reducing time. For additional operator
safety and convenience, the Revotruck features steps at each corner of the cab, providing four exit points.
The Revotruck also provides superior stability and mobility. Mecalac designed the machine with a fourwheel steering chassis that offers exceptional stability and permanent traction on all types of terrain. The central link between the two parts of the chassis offers up to 20 degrees of oscillation. The two oscillating parts of the chassis independently follow the contours of the ground. The chassis is complemented by four equal-sized wheels with a switchable steering mode, allowing operators to cycle between two-wheel steering, four-wheel steering and crab steering. This enables it to work with agility in confined spaces with a turning radius
twice as tight as conventional articulated site dumpers.
The revolutionary site dumper has already won five awards, including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award “Best of the Best” — the highest accolade in one of the world’s most renowned design competitions.
The Revotruck 6 features a 13,288-pound payload with a total operating weight of 13,040 pounds. For heavier-duty applications, the Revotruck 9 provides a 19,842-pound payload with a 14,473-pound operating weight. Each variant is equipped with a hydrostatic transmission top speed of 17.4 miles per hour to quickly navigate jobsites. Both models are powered by a 74-horsepower Tier 4 Final diesel engine. SP
