Mariotto Residence 13 Wood Street Garden Unit
Client Imformation The garden unit owner will be Ernest’s niece. She is a student in university of San Francisco. Her personality is quiet easy going, and she does not have any special requirement for her unit. However, at her young age, most of the college students will be fond of having an entertainment space. That’s why creating open house is my first suggestion for her. Her personality is quiet easy going, and she does not have any special requirement for her unit. Mariotto Residence 13 Wood Street Lower Unit
Client Imformation
Our clients are Ernest Mariotto and his family, they live on 13 wood street, San Francisco, California, a three level unit. After remodeling the units, Ernest will move from the garden unit to the lower unit, which is second level. He is an interior designer and an instructor in Academy of art university. As a client, he prefers to live by himself, enjoy the quiet and peaceful environment. Ernest would love his living space to be more open, and he has his own set of art collection to display. Therefore a layout and design like gallery structure is mostly what he is looking for. Location This 4368 square foot multiple occupancy home has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. It is located at 13 wood Street San Francisco, California. Lot: 4,485 sqft, Built in 1955, Multiple Occupancy.
Concept inspriation Past, Present and Future
Gallery is a room or series of rooms where works of art are exhibited, a long usually narrow room used for some specific purpose, a covered corridor (especially with lots of thick concrete walls and supported with arches or columns) Gallery could also has very antique design, with old fashioned furniture and extremely industrial style, when people walk in the rhis kinds of spaces, they will feel like traveling to the past.
Gallery interiors could be narrow, at the same time it is a very open space with no door and less window. Therefore this kinds of space normally bring great circulation to the indoor space. The reason I bring this idea to this space, it’s not only because of our client needs, but also it’s a brilliant idea design a space base on the open circulation.
Circulation Study In order to get the accurate block diagram, the bubble diagram on top is showing that by entering the house the first area people will see is a gallery look narrow hallway, next to the hallway, on the right side from top to bottom will be master bedroom, bathroom, laundry, kitchen, and dining area. On the left side of the hallway from the top to bottom will be walking closet, office, stairway entry, living area.

Ernest’s sister and her husband will move into upper unit. she likes cooking, so a bigger kitchen is what she really needs. At the same time she’s eager to stay in a place that more spacious and bright, warm and comfortable, freedom thrifty, the feeling of family. she likes to have a office room, yet office can also used as a guest room.
Location This 4368 square foot multiple occupancy home has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. It is located at 13 wood Street San Francisco, California. Lot: 4,485 sqft, Built in 1955, Multiple Occupancy.
Concept inspriation
When you invite someone into your home, you want them to feel comfortable. Not “take up residence on the sofa and stay a few weeks” comfortable, more like “take off your shoes and enjoy an aperitif” comfortable. There’s a lot to be said for how interior design can make guests feel welcome. These apartments from the designers all utilize modern design elements in warm and inviting tones. The resulting spaces are exactly the kind of place you would want to bring a friend or two.

Circulation Study The design of the house is trying to show the client a welcoming, cozy, and modern indoor space. In order to get the accurate block diagram, the bubble diagram on top is showing that by entering the house the first area people will see is a very open kitchen, below the kitchen, living area, and dining space are separated on the right and left side. There is a hallway connect the office/guest room, half bath, master bedroom, master bathroom, walkin closet, and the rest of the house. Because of the level of the house, bring the nature light from the rooftop is I recommend for our client.

Lightwell Design
In this indoor space build a lightwell can provided within the volume of a large building to allow light and air to reach what would otherwise be a dark or unventilated area. And also lightwells serve to reduce the necessity for electric lighting, add a central space within the building, and provide an internal open space for windows to give an illusion of having a view outside. Which client can enjoy the outdoor in the indoor.
