EDITOR’S NOTE
Hello August,
With Summer holidays in full swing, we bring you the most jam-packed August Issue ever with 472 events across 31 days. Impressive Surrey. Check out our ‘Calendar’ and ‘What's On’ pages from 15-17 to be fully entertained this month.
By far the most amazing encounter I have had in years is the recent picnic dining experience at Beaverbrook. Picture this…. sitting in a beautiful wildflower meadow sipping on a butterfly cocktail watching butterflies (colour matching your drink!) flutter around you. All whilst dining on the most delicious Anglo-Italian picnic food. Read the full review on page 96-99.
Elsewhere, we have a dapper shoot from Howard & Co Attire showcasing their ‘Mix & Match’ fashion pieces. Choose from dog tooth, checked, pinstripe or bold colourways and wear it out with pride. If you are looking for suits for weddings or special occasions, Howard & Co Attire will come to your home and measure you up as part of the service. Love it.
‘For Him’ and ‘For Her’ brings you the latest tech and gadgets out this Summer, from VR headsets, AirPod chains and the latest Nike self-lacing trainers that Marty McFly from ‘Back to the Future’ predicted in 1984, only 40 years late!
We also caught up with the charismatic Mike Bennett, lead singer of The Blockheads, behind hits like ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick’ and discovered his penchant for pencil skirts, kohl eyeliner and why Guildfest was the best audience he has ever played to. Stay tuned to hear an exclusive from Lisa Mafia and Romeo from So Solid Crew next month.
And make sure (if you haven’t already!) to subscribe to Surrey Rocks Magazine – it comes with lots of exclusives, perks and giveaways including a Surrey Rocks T-Shirt.

MEGAN FOX PREGNANCY RUMOURS RESURFACE
Hollywood actress Megan Fox is reportedly expecting her first baby with rapper boyfriend
The couple first sparked pregnancy rumours when Megan cameoed on MGK’s latest music video with Jelly Roll ‘Lonely Road’, where she had a noticeable baby bump and the shoots credits announced, ‘Introducing: Baby Violet Leika’.
Having fooled everyone that they were indeed expecting, the news came that the pregnancy was fake and the baby was hired for
Fast forward a few weeks and sources close to the stars have claimed that Megan and MGK are actually expecting and were just preluding the news to fans, with the ‘hoax’ video released on July 18th.
In fact only last Sunday (July 28th) the 38-year-old Transformers actress was spotted out in Nobu on a hot Summer’s day with MGK wearing a baggy, oversized
A far cry from her usually svelte, tight-fitting clothing, onlookers added. Well this is going to be one beautiful looking baby when it is finally born!
So this month has been a busy one in Surrey Celebville. On a recent visit to Hampton Court, Duncan James from Blue was spotted at the latest beauty hotspot J’adore La Beaute & Esthetique. Plus, ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant Shilpa Shetty was dining at the newly-opened Gourmet Burger Club in Cobham and Bobby Davro, DJ Kid Jensen and ‘EastEnders’ actor John Altman (aka Nasty Nick) were spotted at Esher Theatre for the Christmas panto reveal ‘Robin Hood’ starring Davro, Peter Straker and Channel 5 Milkshake presenter
JOHN HUNT FAMILY TRAGEDY - 3 WOMEN DIE - WHEN WILL IT STOP?
"Domestic abuse, coercive control, misogyny, then murder" - crimes like this against women are never fully investigated until it's too late. According to Refuge, one in 4 women will experience domestic abuse and one woman is killed by their abusive ex or partner every 5 days in England and Wales. Despite these shocking statistics, women are too frightened to speak out about their abuse for fear of not being believed or retribution by their partner. It's a vicious circle of shame, fear and denial. And similarly, friends of the abused person (and usually first-hand witnesses of the abuse they could report –like Hannah Hunt’s friends) are too scared to speak out too. They fear they would experience the same abuse they and they don't want to get involved for fear of retaliation on them and their family members.
So why does it take a triple murder for people to sit up and take notice? On reflection it is because it is now safe to do so, Kyle is in police custody. Before he was a revered soldier - fighting in wars and saving his country. He was powerful. Testimony to the contrary would seem crass and unpatriotic.
So now we have a situation where 26-year-old Kyle Clifford,
TOM’S SON GATECRASHES OLYMPIC INTERVIEW
Tom Daley’s adorable son Phoenix gatecrashed his Paris 2024 Olympic medal winning interview with the BBC by throwing his juice cup interrupting Tom and Noah Williams chat about their victory in scooping the silver medal in the Men’s 10m synchronised dive.
Stopping his Dad Tom’s speech – Tom felt inclined to explain to viewers during the live broadcast what was going on behind the scenes.
“Phoenix is trying to kill people by throwing his juice cup!” Tom gave his 6-year-old son a stern look whist his diving partner Noah was in hysterics by the antics.
a dangerous controlling narcissistic sociopath, was allowed to abuse Louise Hunt for years without so much as a tap on the shoulder. Feeling invincible, on July 9th, Clifford was able to walk into the Hunt family home and brutally murder his exgirlfriend Louise (26) her sister Hannah (28) and mum Carol (61) with a crossbow. The women fought for their lives and got messages to police but it was too late. They all bled to death. You can only imagine how harrowing their last minutes were as they saw their beloved family members die in front of them.
Louise's friends, have provided statements about the extent of Kyle's abuse - but would not do while their friend was alive. According to these multiple reports, Kyle abused his girlfriend on a daily basis going through her phone, not permitting her to wear make-up or go out in public without him and cutting her off from friends and family members. Louise ended the relationship with Kyle 5 days before her murder and eerily posted on Twitter days before her death how she has respect for "women that walk away from abusive relationships."
Unfortunately, her statement could have been her demise. Abusers like Kyle thrive on being "in power" and when that power shifts like the public social media shaming in the post she did against him, Kyle acted out in retaliation. He killed her and her family, before turning the crossbow on himself. According to reports, Kyle is now paralysed and will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. In a statement released after the deaths of his wife Carol, and daughters Hannah and Louise, BBC racing commentator John Hunt spoke of "devastation on an unimaginable scale."
He said, "Notwithstanding the horrid evil that's swept through our lives, wrecking devastation on an unimaginable scale, the counter to that has been the breathtaking messages of support, some of which are still to be read. Amy, my eldest daughter, has been magnificently inspirational with her control and support for me, which I am trying, trying so hard, to replicate. Every message has felt so important, the same as a reassuring hug."

GRILLED STEAK SALAD WITH PESTO & CROSTINI
This classic Italian recipe by Jamie Oliver is bursting with fresh herb flavour. Below is the standard way to make but you can also add pine nuts and parmesan cheese shavings if desired. (Cooking time: 20 minutes)
INGREDIENTS
(makes 2 portions)
• 2 x 200 g matured rib-eye steaks
• Olive oil, sea salt freshly ground black pepper
• 1 sprig fresh rosemary, leaves picked and chopped
• ½ tablespoon dried oregano
• 2 slices ciabatta bread
• 2 tablespoons green pesto
• 1 clove garlic, cut in half
• 100 g mixed salad leaves
• Juice of 1 lemon
DIRECTIONS:
1. Lay the steaks on a chopping board and rub with olive oil. Season and sprinkle with the rosemary and oregano. Cover with greaseproof paper and bash lightly with a rolling pin until the steaks are slightly flattened out and the herbs and seasoning are pressed into the meat.
2. Put a large griddle pan on a high heat and,
RECIPE
as it's heating up, toast the ciabatta on both sides. Keep the toast warm. Shake any crumbs out of the griddle pan, then return to the heat and lay the steaks in it, side by side. Cook for about 8 minutes, turning every minute, for a medium steak, or a little longer if you like your meat more cooked.
3. Lift the steaks out of the pan and leave to rest somewhere warm.
4. Spoon a tablespoon of pesto
onto each plate and smear out across the plate with the back of a spoon.
5. Place a steak on each plate and rub the toasted ciabatta with the garlic, drizzle with a little olive oil and put a piece on top of each steak.
6. In a mixing bowl, toss the salad leaves with the lemon juice, a lug of olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper. Divide the salad between the plates and serve.
WINE MATCH
When thinking what wine to pair with a classic steak dish, you can only think one thing…. Red! Talking to Majestic Wines we discovered most steak dishes are ideally paired with a robust red like Cabernet Sauvignon that has sufficient tannins (the naturally-occurring compounds found in plants and fruit skins) which can glide expertly through the fattier cut. Ribeye, a cut of beef from the outer side of the ribs, can be matched with either a full- blooded Cote du Rhone or a bold Zinfandel for spectacular results. Fillet, considered by most to be the finest cut, is particularly delicious with a perfectly aged Rioja Reserva.
How the steak is prepared should also inform your choice of wine. If you prefer your steak rare, classic, Old World wines may bring out the best in the flavour and sensation. If you prefer medium well then you should be considering riper fruitier offerings. If you prefer well done we suggest you open a bottle of Pinot Noir or a soft Syrah.
MOVIE REVIEW ALBUM REVIEW BOOK REVIEW
ALIEN: ROMULUS
This movie is the seventh installment in the ‘Alien’ franchise and the first entry since 2017's ‘Alien: Covenant’ and, this time, ‘Evil Dead’s Fede Álvarez is taking a seat in the director's chair - so expect to be scared, very scared!
Set between the events of the first and second movies, ‘Alien: Romulus’ centres around a group of young explorers in an abandoned research facility where they come face to face with familiar alien foes.
While the movie is still shrouded in a suitable amount of mystery, we have some exclusive quotes from star ‘Priscilla’ and ‘Civil War’ star Cailee Spaeny and director Fede Álvarez, as well as everything you need to know about the film, released on August 16th. Spaeny's character Raines seems set to follow in the footsteps of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley. Spaeny reveals, "I definitely did everything that I could to bring that character to life. Watching Sigourney play that role – she’s part of the changing of the game that those films did, I could never be her. But I injected whatever I have in me into that character, and tried to make it threedimensional – as three-dimensional as possible. So I hope that that’s there, and it comes alive."
‘Alien: Romulus’ from 20th Century Studios (certificate 18 – obviously!) is independently good too, according to director Álvarez. "This is the way this movie works: if you haven’t seen any Alien movie ever, you’ll have a great time. You won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything. But if you’ve seen one or more – oh, boy, you’ll have a blast. At least, I hope you will! The reality is that it is a standalone story, but it’s filled with references to every movie. It is truly a love letter to all the other movies."
We hope you enjoy the latest Alien adventure, or at least try to, on the very edge of your seats!
MEMOIR OF A SPARKLEMUFFIN – SUKI WATERHOUSE
'Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin', Suki Waterhouse’s new 18-track double album, will arrive on September 13th, following on from her 2022 debut album 'I Can't Let Go' with lots of glam rock panache. Suki, made famous from her role as Karen Sirko in the Emmy nominated TV series ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ is an English born singer, actress and model who has dated, among other famous stars, ‘Hangover’ actor Bradley Cooper and ‘Twilight’ lead Robert Pattinson.
The London-born artist has already shared lead singles upbeat pop tracks ‘OMG’ and ‘Supersad’, guitar led ballads with lots of attitude. It follows the album's previously unveiled tracks ‘To Love’ and ‘Faded and My Fun’.
Waterhouse said of ‘Supersad’: "I tried to write a '90s song you could hear playing at the mall in Clueless or as an opening track for Legally Blonde."
The accompanying video, directed by filmmaker and long-time creative collaborator Émilie Richard-Froozan is a stunning piece of art that has gained her critical acclaim.
Suki is proud to write her own lyrics and chatted to Rolling Stone Magazine about ‘OMG’ released in January2024. “We started half the song and then put it to the side. We were like, ‘It’s not working.’ And then two months went by and we were back in the studio, and suddenly this chorus came out with this energy around it. I couldn’t be prouder of it.”
The singer will support the 'Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin' album launch with her previously scheduled ‘The Sparklemuffin Tour of North America’, which kicks off in late September. She'll also appear at Day In Day Out Festival in Seattle, Washington, and joins Beabadoobee, TV Girl, Ethel Cain and Arlo Parks in supporting Mitski at London's All Points East on August 18th. Tickets are on sale now.
THE PAIRING – CASEY MCQUISTON
From the Number one New York Times bestselling author Casey McQuiston's comes this romantic comedy, where two bisexual exes accidentally book the same European food and wine tour and challenge each other to a hook-up competition to prove they're over each other - except they're definitely not.
The story centres around lead characters Theo and Kit who have been a lot of things: childhood best friends, crushes, in love, and now estranged exes. After a brutal break-up on the transatlantic flight to their dream European food and wine tour, they exited each other's lives once and for all. Or so they thought!
Time apart has done them good though. Theo has found confidence as a hustling bartender by night and aspiring sommelier by day, with a long roster of casual lovers. Kit, who never returned to the US, graduated as the reigning sex god of his pastry school class and now bakes at one of the finest restaurants in Paris. Sure, nothing really compares to what they had, and life stretches out long and lonely ahead of them.
All that remains is the unused voucher for the European tour that never happened, good for 48 months after its original date and about to expire. Four years later, it seems like a great idea to finally take the trip. Solo. Separately.
It's not until they board the tour bus that they discover they've both accidentally had the exact same idea, and now they're trapped with each other for three weeks of stunning views, luscious flavours, and the most romantic cities of France, Spain, and Italy. It's fine. There's nothing left between them. So much nothing that, when Theo suggests a friendly wager to see who can sleep with their hot Italian tour guide first, Kit is totally game. And why stop there? Why not a full-on European hook-up competition?
This love story has plenty of twists and turns and you can’t help but fall in love with Theo and Kit. Does it work out? Just wait and see.

BRIT SUKI WATERHOUSE RULES
Our Brit cover star Suki Waterhouse has had an amazing journey so far – having shot to fame as a model in her teens, then turning her hand to acting in a plethora of hit films and as one of the leads in Netflix Emmy-nominated ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ before becoming a successful pop star in her own right.
WATERHOUSE
With all three major sought after job roles covered in her twenties, 2024 has seen Suki become a mum with her gorgeous fiancé and fellow Brit actor Robert Pattison from ‘Twilight’ fame. All this while headlining Coachella 2024 and soon-to-be-releasing her much anticipated second album ‘Memoir Of A Sparkle Muffin’ all within the space of a few months aged only 32.
How does she do it? Well according to best gal pal, model Cara Delevingne, Suki is “willful and wild” and always has been “an extremely hard worker and creative at heart.”
MODELLING ROOTS
Having grown up in Chiswick, West London, with childhood friends including the aforementioned Cara and rock & roll royalty Georgia May Jagger (daughter of Mick Jagger & Jerry Hall) it was no surprise that the beautiful Suki would get signed and follow in her model pals footsteps - seeing as though she was already front row at fashion weeks.
So at the age of 16 she was signed to Next Management and fronted an H&M campaign which catapulted her into the big time.
She swapped her front row seat for fronting designer brand campaigns and walking for the likes of Burberry, Hugo Boss and Laura Mercier in New York, London, Paris and Milan.
It was at this time in 2013 that she caught the eye of Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper, rising star of ‘The Hangover’ and the (ridiculously pleasing to the eye!) couple dated for two years until 2015.
Suki was also picked up and paid mega bucks by high street favourites including New Look and hair giant Redken, further fuelling her fire as one of the most sought-after models on the circuit.
ACTING PROWESS
Following her winning modelling streak, Suki was first cast in Brit flick ‘Love Rosie’ alongside ‘Emily in Paris’ star Lily Collins and followed this swiftly with the hit remake of ‘Pride & Prejudice’ both in 2014. Showing she
could cut it as an actress in all genres ‘Zombieland’ in 2016 was her next big grossing film.
One of the biggest budget Netflix series ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ also co-starring Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keogh saw the talented Brit actress and model propelled to the big time in 2023 playing the part of singer Karen Sirko. The fictional miniseries followed a band trying to make it into the mainstream in the 1970’s drew critical acclaim from critics and fans alike.
Having felt she had achieved the pinnacle of her acting career following the notoriety of ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ and previous films, high achiever Suki, who has always had an impressive set of lungs on her – decided to make her major move onto the music scene.
MUSICAL MAESTRO
So life imitated art and in 2022, when Suki released her first album ‘I Can’t Let Go’ with label Sub Pop - produced just a few months after she finished filming ‘Daisy & The Six’ on Netflix. She had previously released a single called ‘Brutally’ in 2016 and lead single from ‘I Can’t Let Go’ called ‘Good Looking’ quietly to little fanfare in 2017. However, following the album’s official worldwide release in 2022, the single ‘Good Looking’ went Platinum and BPI Silver proving her worth in the music industry – it’s a cool, eclectic mix of pop beats and brilliant, melodic lyrics by Suki.
After a year hiatus to have a baby with the gorgeous Robert Pattison (whom she has dated since 2018) in March of this year, Suki was back performing at Coachella Festival 2024 in May, a mere 6 weeks after having her daughter. Wow. And she is back with her new album ‘Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin’ coming out this September.
Suki said of her latest album on social media,”‘Memoir Of A Sparklemuffin’, my second album, out 13th Sept, feels surreal to finally be able to bring this world to you that I’ve been living in for the past year & even more insane to be touring these songs I love so much in the fall.”

FEATURES FOR KING + COUNTRY
Multi-platinum and four-time Grammy Award-winning duo For King + Country (brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone) have added yet another accolade to their impressive career with the release of their highly anticipated music biopic, ‘Unsung Hero’. Born in Australia, Joel and Luke moved to and settled in Nashville with their family at a young age. Since then, the duo has become one of the music industry’s most respected and decorated acts.
Set against the backdrop of Nashville in the early ‘90s, ‘Unsung Hero’ follows the journey of Joel and Luke’s parents, David and Helen Smallbone, as they relocate their six children from Australia to the United States in pursuit of a brighter future, armed only with suitcases and their love of music. Co-directed by Joel Smallbone with Richard L Ramsey, the film follows the journey of their parents as they navigate the challenges of immigration and pursue their dreams in the face of adversity. It reveals the origins of one of the world's most successful Christian bands, For King + Country, and their Grammy Award-winning
sister, Rebecca St. James, showcasing how they discovered and honed their musical talents.
The pair flew over to London for the UK premiere of their biopic at the prestigious Curzon Mayfair. The evening began with a red carpet event, where fans eagerly gathered for a chance to meet Joel and Luke, take pictures, and share a few words with the acclaimed duo. The venue buzzed with excitement as attendees prepared to experience the Smallbone family's inspiring story brought to life on the big screen. Celebrities, industry professionals, devoted fans, cast and crew members, and journalists filled the space, all gathered to celebrate the film's debut.
Inside the theatre, the evening began with a lively reception complete with a bar and popcorn, creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. This set the stage for an engaging Q&A session with Joel, Luke and producer Joshua Walsh with questions from Jennifer Lee Moon. The brothers shared personal anecdotes about their family’s journey, the challenges and joys of
COUNTRY
the filmmaking process, and the profound impact they hope the film will have on audiences. They recounted heartwarming and inspirational stories, providing deeper insight into the experiences that shaped their music and lives. The intimate session allowed fans and guests to connect with the duo, enhancing the overall experience of the premiere.
Releasing just ahead of Father’s Day, the film prompted questions about fatherhood and family during the Q&A session. Luke shared heartfelt reflections, saying, “Part of the reason why this movie is special is because my wife and I have four kids. And I’m living the impact of what my family is giving me, how these kids are impacting me, and how I’m impacting these kids.” He spoke passionately about the reciprocal nature of family life and the influence it has on both parents and children.
He went on to mention what he hoped families took away from this film: “My hope is that fathers will walk away from this and go, “I want to be a better dad.” I hope that mothers walk away from this and see that all the effort they put in really matters. There are generational consequences for the better when families pour into each other. I hope kids start to dream up massive dreams and that, with a little bit of belief from the right people, some of
those dreams can flourish.” He continued, “What you’re about to see is that our older sister (Rebecca St. James) was 13/14 when she started to sing and had a record deal at 16. There's no reason why those things can’t repeat, so I hope those are just a few of the things that people take away from this.”
Following the Q&A, attendees moved into the cinema room for the screening of ‘Unsung Hero’. Featuring a talented ensemble cast, Daisy Betts, Joel Smallbone, Kirrilee Berger, Jonathan Jackson, Lucas Black, Candace Cameron Bure, and Terry O’Quinn. The story begins with the collapse of David Smallbone’s successful music company during the recession that gripped Australia in the early 1990s. Faced with losing everything, David and his wife Helen make the bold decision to relocate their six-and-a-half children from Sydney to Nashville in a desperate bid to succeed in the music business. With nothing more than their suitcases and their love of music, David and his pregnant wife Helen set out to rebuild their lives from the ground up. The film portrays a mother’s unwavering faith that stands against all odds and inspires her husband and children to hold onto theirs.
The music was undeniably a highlight of the entire film, with a soundtrack that Joel and Luke Smallbone performed and recorded to complement their story. The soundtrack features some of the biggest hits of the 80s and 90s, seamlessly weaving reimagined versions of these nostalgic songs with For King + Country’s signature sound. The duo collaborates with renowned artists such as Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and their sister Rebecca St. James, who has played a significant role in their musical careers. The soundtrack includes iconic tracks like John Farnham’s ‘You’re The Voice’, Rod Stewart’s ‘Rhythm of My Heart’, and Seal’s ‘Crazy’ to name just a few. Additionally, the title track has been reworked from their 2023 album ‘What Are We Waiting For?’ and features an original track, ‘She Believes’. The music not only enhances the emotional depth of the film but also pays tribute to the era that shaped their family's journey.
Directed and co-written by Joel Smallbone and Richard L. Ramsey and produced by Joshua Walsh, Justin Tolley, Joel Smallbone, and Luke Smallbone, the 113-minute biopic's emotions certainly fluctuated a lot throughout; you could cut the tension with a nice in some moments, and the film ended with more than a few damp eyes across the theatre. The dedication
FEATURES
and passion of the filmmakers and cast shone through, earning a full five-minute standing ovation from the audience.
For Joel and Luke Smallbone, the premiere of their biopic marked not only a milestone in their careers but also a celebration of faith, family, and the power of their music. Its portrayal of the Smallbone family’s journey from Australia to Nashville really is a beautiful reminder of the strength found in unity, faith, and the pursuit of one’s passion. As fans and critics alike applaud the film’s authenticity and heartfelt storytelling, it underscores the influence that For King + Country continues to wield. While the film did not end on a cliffhanger, its powerful storytelling left viewers pondering the possibility of a sequel to further explore the Smallbone family's legacy.
Multi-Platinum and four-time Grammy Award-winning duo for KING + COUNTRY (brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone) drop their "The Inspired By Soundtrack" album for their family biopic film,"Unsung Hero." The duo also releases their new music video for "She Believes" from the album that is available in conjunction with the film which releases in theaters nationwide via Lionsgate/ For King + Country Entertainment in the US.
The film stars Joel Smallbone alongside Daisy Betts; he also cowrote the film, and it is his directorial debut. To listen or purchase "The Inspired By Soundtrack," visit
"The Inspired By Soundtrack" also includes recently released singles, "Place In This World" feat. Michael W. Smith; "Checking In" with Lee Brice. "To Hell With The Devil" feat. Lecrae & Stryper. "Lead Me On" feat. Amy Grant; and much more. It also features the title track of the film, "Unsung Hero," from
their current Grammy nominated and AMA, Billboard and Dove award-winning album, "What Are We Waiting For?"
Says the Smallbones, "What a field day we had with this album! We have more features than any album we've ever done, having had the opportunity to take these incredibly nostalgic 90's songs and re-imagine them with a for King + Country flair. We've been able to partner with multiple artists on their songs – Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Rebecca St. James, Stryper, and more. It's been quite an adventure, a creative process to re-envision these songs. We hope everyone enjoys them as much as we enjoyed making them!"
The accompanying soundtrack album 'Unsung Hero' being is out now on Curb Records and marketed by Fifth Element PR and their fantastic team.

The Seven Stars Pub in Ripley has undergone a huge interior and exterior makeover and opened its doors to the public on November 28th. The popular pub has been taken over by The Running Mare in Cobham owners, Adrian & Ollie, who have spent the last 2 months renovating the manor building, dating back to 1536, to get it back to its former glory. The Seven Stars has long been one of the landmark bars in Ripley. The new owners are really excited to turn The Seven Stars into a destination for all ages and tastes and make it a vibrant social hub for the Ripley community and beyond.
Whilst Adrian comes from a hospitality background – he has run a number of successful pubs and bars before the Seven Stars – he spent a large part of his life supporting and travelling with his younger brother, the racing driver Julian Bailey (aka The Stig!), on the route to Formula One. Be sure to pay the new venue a visit.
The Running Mare is one of the most iconic destination pubs in Cobham, and one of the most renowned dining restaurants in Surrey. GOURMET BURGER CLUB
Gourmet Burger Club’s concept is simple; fresh wholesome ingredients coming together for maximum flavour.
Easily among the best Burgers, Entrees, Salads and Club Sandwiches you will taste in our home county. We can wholeheartedly say we were blown away with our recent taste explosion at GBC!
Having lovingly visited their first Banstead restaurant on several occasions, we were excited to try their new Cobham restaurant. It did not disappoint. Beautifully decorated in their signature black and gold with leather booth style seating it was chic, decadent and inviting.
TO START
The menu was wide and varied with a great selection of Starters including the amazing ‘Dynamite Prawns’, ‘Grilled Wings’ and ‘Halloumi Skewers.’ On the advice of restaurant owner Sana we
went for their famous ‘Handcrafted Onion Rings’ which were delicious, so crisp and freshly made that day. We also tried the popular ‘Club Wings’ free-range chicken wings tossed in hot and tangy sauce – absolutely divine – really meaty and the perfect ‘kick’ was provided with the spicy sauce accompaniment.
MASTERFUL MAINS
Despite being billed as a burger restaurant there is a lot more than just your standard beef burgers on the menu, including 5 different types of Chicken Burgers, 3 Veggie Burgers, 7 Smashed Beef Burgers plus 3 Salads and Club Sandwich options as well as 6 different types of fries – Classic, Chilli, Curly, Cheesy, Chilli Cheese or Sweet Potato. Wow, we were in chip heaven!
With such a selection it was a tough choice. As we were in Cobham we thought it only apt to select the ‘Cobham Burger’ which was beautifully presented with a 100% grass-fed British beef burger, melted cheese, onion ring, handcrafted guacamole, picked beetroot, rocket and their signature club sauce. Stacked to perfection the flavours from the guacamole
and beetroot really offset the burger, cheese and onion. Having never had this combination, our taster (who also happens to be a top chef!) said they would definitely have this again! Next up we went for the ‘Chicken Club Sandwich’ which contained shredded mayo chicken, a fried egg, turkey bacon, lettuce, tomato, signature club sauce served on toasted bread with classic fries. It was superb; succulent chicken, creamy mayo and crispy bacon all impeccably served with the yummiest crunchiest fries.
On a previous outing we had tested ‘The
RESTAURANT REVIEW
Spicy Club Gourmet’ with melted cheese, onion, grilled peppers, lettuce, jalapenos and spicy club sauce, which is another top recommendation, especially if you like to spice up your burger. And the ‘Mushroom Melt Chicken Burger’ is another top dish, with grilled chicken thigh, cheese, caramelised onions and oozing with creamy mushroom sauce!
There is also a very cute (and cost effective!) kids’ menu that is very popular with the little ones.
DESSERTS & DRINKS
There is an impressive drinks and desserts menu at Gourmet Burger Club too. They have 12 flavours of premium Italian gelato ice-cream and milkshakes, including mint choc chip, bubblegum and toffee & butterscotch. Or induge in Oreo Cookie, Cadbury Flake, Maltesers or Twix ice-cream milkshakes. Yum. And new at Banstead is the Nutella crepe, drizzled in chocolate with fresh strawberries and chocolate ice-cream. Dessert heaven.
BEHIND GBC
Gourmet Burger Club’s signature recipes are the brainchild of owner and burger connoisseur Sana, who has tried, tested and lovingly handcrafted every item on their menu to perfection. Each burger is lovingly handcrafted using 100% grass-fed British beef and the flavours are taken to new heights by the addition of complimentary tastes and textures.

RESTAURANT REVIEW
SANA - HOW GBC STARTED
“In 2020, when people had run out of spirit and were bound to their homes, I was sitting by my window thinking how I could help in restoring the spirit and bringing a smile on people’s faces during these dark times. So, I went into my kitchen and started to experiment with flavours and ingredients.
This is where Gourmet Burger Club was born. I always had a passion to cook flavoursome food and treat my guests and this same tradition has been taken forward at Gourmet Burger Club: we treat customers like our own guests.
Our restaurant is a passionate tribute to the art of burger making. Where every ingredient is fresh and full of flavours to give you, an extra ordinary dine-in experience. Join me and my team at Gourmet Burger Club and feel the taste of freshness in every delicious bite. Discover your own joy with our Fresh and Handcrafted burgers. "
IN SUMMARY
We could not recommend Gourmet Burger Club highly enough. From their first restaurant opening in Banstead in 2020 to Cobham in 2023 and more recently Covent Garden in 2024 – you can see how well the Gourmet Burger Club love is spreading through Surrey and beyond. Be sure to pay them a visit. And if you are ever in Cobham supervisor Javed and team member Gazally will make you feel truly welcome. As they did us! We are definitely coming back again soon. 5 Star all the way.

Beaverbrook
THE GARDEN HOUSE PICNIC EXPERIENCE
Picture this… sitting in a beautiful, wildflower meadow with the rolling Surrey Hills as a backdrop on a perfect Summer’s day, sipping on a specially curated cocktail named ‘Madame Butterfly’ whilst watching the prettiest, lilac and yellow butterflies flutter around you - colour matching your drink! A completely surreal and magical experience.
The Garden House Restaurant, situated in the stunning, sprawling Beaverbrook Estate, is known for its beautiful location and garden for growing flowers, vegetables and herbs for their
delicious seasonal menus.
This year, Beaverbrook’s amazing (and genius, may I add!) restaurant team have decided to showcase more of their picturesque grounds with an opulent sharing-style picnic experience in their meadows.
Each area (and there are only three – so get your reservations in quick!) is cut-out of the meadow grassland by The Garden House Restaurant and in the middle is a specialised, round lowlevel wooden picnic table, with accompanying picnic hamper, large plush cushions, blankets and a Georgian-style, white parasol.
Also, there are gaps of at least 10 metres between each cutout meadowed area so you can be guaranteed to get a private and exclusive dining experience.
THE ANGLO-ITALIAN PICNIC MENU
And what better way to compliment the most stunning of scenery than a world-class menu. The new sharing style ‘Picnic Menu’ has been meticulously curated by The Garden House’s Anglo-Italian, restaurant head chef, Adam Sharpe, who is top of his field (excuse the pun!) and picks up regular industry awards for excellence.
Among the delights on the menu are ‘Sausage Rolls with Wholegrain Mustard Dip’ handmade with the most delicious fresh pork meat, onion and sage and the flakiest pastry. Our guest who runs her own 5-Star catering business in Surrey
RESTAURANT REVIEW
commented that “These are the best sausage rolls I have ever tasted.” We all agreed.
There was also ‘Goldminster Cheddar and Parmesan Grissini’ or as the little ‘uns would refer to them, ‘Cheese Straws!’ Crispy and really full of cheddar flavour, adults and kids will devour these… as we did.
Next up was the ‘Globe Artichokes’ a beautifully presented whole artichoke with a confit garlic aioli dip. This allows the diners to tear off artichoke leaves and dip in the sauce – a great sharing and taste experience.
The standout dish for us was the ‘Lobster Quiche with Garlic & Parsley.’ The egg filling was fluffy and light and the lobster pieces were fresh, sizeable and plentiful. The pastry base was soft and buttery and not too thick so you could appreciate the lobster and egg filling without filling up. The care and attention that went into creating this dish was noted by all 4 diners. Well done Adam and your team!
The ‘Fresh Rigatoni’ was superb too, with a delicious basil pesto dressing and lots of sweet, homegrown cherry tomatoes.
Another winner was the ‘Barbecued Corn Fed Chicken’succulent pieces of chicken breast with a coriander, parsley and tarragon dressing. The flavours were perfectly infused and the chicken cooked to perfection with all the smokiness of a well-cooked BBQ dish.
This all went down really well with the three accompanying salad dishes ‘Homegrown Tomato Salad’ which came with tarragon and black olives and the ‘Salad of Garden Lettuce, Radish and Avocado’ which was crisp, fresh and the tastiest, ripest avocado chunks. Plus, the popular on our table ‘New Potato Salad’ was served in a tangy cider mustard and Greek olive oil-style mayonnaise. Delicious!
We also selected a few dishes from Beaverbrook’s main Garden House Menu to top up our experience. The ‘Roasted
Monkfish & Salsa Verde’ was fantastic, grilled to perfection with garlic, sage butter & baby gem, served with edible flowers on a slate plate this ticked all the boxes for taste, freshness and presentation. The ‘Saddle of English Lamb’ was particularly impressive too – cooked perfectly pink and so tender it literally melted in the mouth. The garden mint and pistachio pesto flavours that came with this dish were immense. A side order of ‘50/50 Creamy Mash’ with celeriac went particularly well with the lamb and monkfish too.
DESSERTS
And onto desserts, although there wasn’t much room, we squeezed in the delicious ‘Freshly Baked Lavender Madeleines’ on the Picnic Menu which came with ripe English strawberries and double whipped cream. Served on a grey slate with sprigs of lavender and a dusting of icing sugar it looked almost too good to eat. But we did! We managed all 5 Madeleines, and they were delicious, with really light sponge and vanilla essence coming through, complimenting the fresh fruit and cream.
IMPECCABLE SERVICE
A special mention has to go to the amazing staff at Beaverbrook. From our initial booking with the charming Lizzie on reception, to the effervescent Natalie in marketing and the charismatic Garden House manager James – they all went above and beyond to make our experience as memorable and magical as it was. An extra thanks to the sweetest and most polite of waitresses, Shandy, and our favourite Sommelier Josh, who remembered our group from December last year and recommended our new favourite wine – The Yotes Court Pinot Meunier. A must try from the Mereworth Estate. This is why people LOVE their Beaverbrook experience. The destination, food, drink, ambience and of course service is all 5 Star.
IN SUMMARY
The new ‘Picnic Table Experience’ at Beaverbrook is a must try. This is perfect for a romantic escape or a serene outing with friends or family.
Beaverbrook’s picnic tables are available for a maximum of 6 guests and a minimum of 2 guests, with menus available for adults and children, both standard and vegetarian. Available for residents and non-residents, for lunch and dinner, Monday to Sunday. Adults are £85 per person or £40 per child.
Further good news is that adults get to choose a specially curated cocktail to go with their picnic experience included in the price. Choose from the aforementioned ‘Madame Butterfly’ consisting of Hendricks Gin, Cointreau, Whispering Angel Rose & Butterfly-Pea Tea and Absinth (the colour of the cocktail matches the butterflies at Beaverbrook!) or the ‘Rose Garden’ with Tapatio Tequila, Cointreau, Lime Juice & Whispering Angel served in Chilli and Salt rimmed tumblers or the ‘Meadow Iced Tea’ with Green Spot Whiskey, Peach Liquor & Forbidden City Green Jasmine Tea.
During our experience two young mums were dining nearby, sipping on their cocktails, while their sweet kids were doing cartwheels and playing happily in the meadows. A perfect dining experience for both adults and kids.
Reserve your spot for an unforgettable alfresco dining adventure. See www.beaverbrook.co.uk to make a booking now.

WINNER BEST RESTAURANT (MEDITERRANEAN)
CAFÉ CHAI
We were blown away by the impeccable service, avantgarde décor and the tantalising menu on our recent trip to Café Chai in Banstead. It really is a must try and ticked every reviewer box.
On arrival we were greeted by Cathy the owner and her ultrafriendly team and shown to our seats in the bustling restaurant which was completely full on our Monday lunchtime visit, another good sign!
TASTE EXPLOSION
We had heard nothing but rave reviews about Café Chai and in particular its homemade chai, locally roasted organic coffee and speciality teas. We went for the famed Chai Latte which was made with oat milk and topped with cinnamon and a standard whole milk Cappuccino – both were delicious.
The food menu at Café Chai is diverse and all-encompassing as well as specials and the most delicious Artisan cakes, locally made pastries and sweet treats – the double-sided menu has some real standout main dishes too.
We were instantly drawn to ‘The Big Brioche’ which is Chai’s signature dish of buttered brioche toast stacked with melted red Leicester cheese, beef tomato, rocket, griddled bacon, sausages and topped with a poached egg.
This dish was a taste explosion. When we cut it open the poached egg was cooked to perfection with a soft but not too runny yolk, perfectly offset by the crispiness of the bacon and the creamy, melted Red Leicester. The salad and sausage and sourdough were sublime too and the dish was also beautifully presented with an edible flower on top. Although we went for the standard version of this dish you can add extra ingredients including mushroom, halloumi, avocado or an extra egg (or all of the above!) for a small additional charge.
Next up we went for ‘Chai This’ which is another firm favourite on the menu according to Cathy. This dish consisted of smashed avocado with garlic and lime, served on sourdough toast with chilli flakes, pumpkin seeds, baby plum tomatoes,
sun-dried tomatoes, rocket and pomegranate seeds. It was so tasty and a healthy option too.
New(-ish!) on the Café Chai menu is a range of salads including the colourful ‘Chicken & Mango Summer Salad’ which also comes with red onion, croutons, plum tomatoes and strawberries. So delicious. There are also options like ‘Granola Berry Bowl’ ‘Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap’ and ‘Brie & Parma Ham Bagel’ so all tastes are catered for at Café Chai.
After filling up on lattes and delicious mains we ordered a slice of the ‘Vegan Carrot Cake’ to take home. The cream cheese frosting was delicious and the carrot cake so moist. We had our eye on the ‘Coconut & Raspberry Cake’ and ‘Double Chocolate Oreo Cookies’ so will definitely be back to try these soon.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT
Café Chai, who also happen to be winners of the ‘Highly Commended’ Surrey Award for Best Café and the ‘Reigate & Banstead Award for Customer Service’, are now opening in the evenings due to popular demand.
Chai open from 6.30pm-10.30pm every Thursday and Friday for bookings and walk-ins. They offer fantastic bar bites and a charcuterie menu in the evening as well as having an alcohol license to serve drinks with dinner.
And if you fancy a tipple in the day at Chai they do a brilliant ‘Brunch Cocktail Menu’ with Bloody Marys, Mimosas, Aperol Spritz and Kir Imperials.
Cathy, owner of Cafe Chai, said: "It's been so wonderful serving the people of Banstead and beyond for 4 years now that due to popular demand we have
introduced an evening option. We are so pleased that customers are enjoying our service, food and Café. With a capacity of 45 we are also available for private hires and do regular Supper Clubs with a range of celebrity chefs.”
It’s best to book in early for these as they sell out instantly (before even hitting their social media!) due to their popularity.

THE AWARD-WINNING
SUMMER
WSelcome to my summer column all about the world of hair. Whether it's for a wedding, festival, or holiday, we have your hair needs covered at HARE & BONE. Beach waves, hair-up or curtain bangs (more on them below) the HARE & BONE team is always on hand to help. A lot has been happening since my last column, including the launch of our new app! We are constantly striving to improve your experience, and our app is the latest step in our commitment to exceptional service. It allows for easy booking, a personalised experience, exclusive offers, and real-time notifications - all designed to provide you with the utmost convenience in booking your salon appointments.
ince our last column in Surrey Rocks, a lot has happened. We new salon partner, I won Snapshot Image of the Year at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing Awards, we now stock the popular Works brand in the salon AND we’ve been finalised for another Award for Best Hair Salon.
This year we celebrate our 10th anniversary as a brand and as part plans, we decided to partner with Davines. We had a great experience our former salon partner who supported us throughout the last but as the brand and people evolve, it is important to us to work a partner that reflects our ethos. The team spent months researching various salon brands and Davines is a company that aligns with our and vision. Sustainable and stylish, Davines is a B corp brand determination to do good for each other and the planet. We visited carbon-neutral headquarters in Parma, Italy where they grow plants,
We recently had the opportunity to showcase our creativity at an event hosted by our salon partners for the Davines community. The event was full of innovation, style and expression, bringing the team together to represent the best of HARE & BONE on stage. It was a great opportunity to share our brand identity with our peers and the press. We are approaching our 10-year anniversary, so it felt fitting to choose 3 collections we love and reinvent them through fresh eyes. We chose Hare & Pony, taking inspiration from 80’s Terry Mugler and YSL and created 30-inch ponytails with graphic box bowl haircuts. Buffalo Spirit, our vision of the 80’s Buffalo movement, inspired by Culture Club, Ray Petri, and Charley Jeffery. Finally, Glitterbox, this collection was all about empowering women’s sexuality, big volume and texture, think Disco and Studio 54.
SUMMER HAIR
Our team has also completed additional training on the Davines Heart of Glass product line, designed for blondes. The range is named after a famous 80s song and is specially formulated to protect and enhance the beauty of blonde hair, whether natural or bleached, lightened and dyed, or exposed to sunlight and heat styling.
The Heart of Glass line includes five products: shampoo, conditioner, intense treatment, leave-on illuminating thermalprotective fluid, and a new reinforcing extra-shine fast-acting serum. Both the shampoo and conditioner have a very unique colour: indigo blue. This vibrant hue comes from the natural extract of Jagua fruit which is sustainably grown in Colombia. The extract prevents cool blondes from veering towards warm hues and the warm blondes from becoming even warmer. It also revives the natural blonde hair’s shine, which could be under attack from the sun, the salt, the chlorine or the limescale, potentially losing gloss and vitality.
We're excited to announce that the Heart of Glass range is now available at our Esher salon, and our team is ready to provide advice and address any questions about the products.
And as I write this, I learned that I have been selected as a finalist for the Professional Hairdresser of the Year Award! The awards will be held next month, so make sure to follow us on social media to hear the outcome - @hareandbone.
TREND ALERT CURTAIN BANGS
Between Stevie Nicks and Goldie Hawn, curtain bangs have never really gone out of style. Loved for their versatility and effortless style, curtain bangs are the perfect way to refresh your look without a drastic change and we’re excited to help you embrace this trend with confidence.
Curtain bangs are characterised by their soft, parted fringe that frames the face on both sides, resembling the way curtains drape a window. This style was popularised in the '70s and has made a remarkable comeback from AW24 runways to celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter and Daisy Edgar Jones, thanks to its ability to suit various face shapes and hair types.
They are also versatile, and reasonably one maintenance. Curtain bangs can be styled in multiple ways, whether you prefer them swept to the side, parted in the middle, or blended seamlessly with your layers, and unlike blunt bangs, curtain bangs grow out gracefully, making them easier to manage between salon visits.
Our talented team are here to craft the perfect bangs tailored to your style, face shape and hair texture. Whether you’re looking for a subtle change or a bold new look, we’re excited to create something special for you this summer. The perfect excuse to try out our new app ;)

SID DA BARBER
BACK TO
As August rolls around, the excitement of a new school year arrives. Amidst the hustle of shopping for supplies and planning schedules, one important task often stands out, getting a fresh haircut. A stylish and practical haircut can set the tone for a confident start to the school year. Here are some trendy and low-maintenance haircut styles for students, along with tips and tricks to keep them looking sharp through those busy mornings.
THE CLASSIC CREW CUT
A timeless favourite, the crew cut is short on the sides and back, with slightly more length on top.
Benefits: Easy to maintain and style. Perfect for sports and active students.
Styling Tip: Use a small amount of a matte pomade to add texture and hold.
LEWIS SIDNEY GUMBRELL, ALSO KNOWN AS SID DA BARBER, IS AN ESTEEMED BARBER, EDUCATOR, AWARD-WINNING FINALIST AND PROUD AMBASSADOR FOR TOP BRANDS SUCH AS MCR BARBER SUPPLIES AND RUDE CAPES. HE IS CURRENTLY HONING HIS CRAFT AT JACKS OF LONDON IN GUILDFORD AND TEACHES BARBER EDUCATION TWICE A WEEK. TO SCHOOL
THE TEXTURED CROP
This cut features a short, textured top with a fade on the sides and back.
Benefits: This haircut is modern and requires minimal effort to style.
Styling Tip: Apply salt spray when wet to define the texture.
THE UNDERCUT
Characterised by short disconnected sides and back with a longer top.
Benefits: Versatile and stylish, it can be slicked back or left tousled for a more casual look.
Styling Tip: Use a hairdryer for volume and finish with a matte wax for a natural look.
LONG HAIR
Even long hair needs regular trims to maintain its health and prevent split ends. Trimming every 6-8 weeks can keep hair looking fresh and vibrant. Adding a few layers can soften the overall look and add movement, making it appear refreshed and ready for the new school year. Layers also help manage the weight of long hair, making it easier to style.
NIGHTTIME PREP
Encourage kids and teenagers to wash and prep their hair the night before. This can include braiding longer hair for soft waves or using a leave-in conditioner for added moisture.
DRY SHAMPOO
A quick spritz of dry hair shampoo can refresh hair and add volume, making it a lifesaver on hectic mornings.
SIMPLE ACCESSORIES
Stock up on headbands, clips and hair ties. These can quickly transform a simple style and keep hair neat and tidy throughout the day.
SEA SALT SPRAY
A life saver for schools that don't allow hair wax or pomades in the hair. Spray this into wet hair for a soft natural look or into dry hair to get a little more hold.
REGULAR TRIMS
-Schedule regular trims every 6-8 weeks to keep hair looking healthy and maintain the shape of the haircut.
Hydration and Nutrition
Healthy hair starts from within. Encourage kids to drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients. Foods high in vitamins A, C, D, and E, as well as proteins and omega-3 fatty acids, can support hair health. Incorporate plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into their meals to provide the necessary vitamins and minerals for strong and shiny hair. A healthy diet and proper hydration can help kids' hair grow healthy and resilient. Choosing the right haircut for back-to-school doesn't have to be stressful. Whether opting for a classic crew cut, a short back and sides or a crop haircut the key is to find a style that's easy to manage and fits the persons lifestyle. With these tips and tricks, kids and teens can head back to school looking sharp and feeling confident, ready to take on the new academic year.
Remember, a great haircut not only enhances appearance but also boosts self-esteem, helping students put their best foot forward from the very first day.

LOUISE SCOTLAND STYLES
AUGUST FASHION
Hello my lovelies, I hope you're all well and having a great Summer despite the unpredictable weather.
I'm so excited to finally be able to talk freely about the word that changed my Instagram life as I knew it. Nearly two years ago, my original account was disabled by Instagram who accused me of selling counterfeit goods, after I linked a H&M bag which I referred to as a Chanel/Celine DUPE; meaning it looks very similar to a designer item.
Like most of us women, I love nothing more than a chic looking luxe outfit and if I can find that outfit for less, I celebrate the little wins.
So let's dive in and take a look at how to source the best designer dupes...
Firstly, to get to know designer items, you need to be having a look on the websites that stock them, either the brand itself or a site like Net-A-Porter or Selfridges for example. Lots of people shy away from doing this because they think that they can't afford it but if you're not familiar with the designer items then how do you know how to spot the juicy dupe that you can afford?!
HI MY NAME IS LOUISE AND I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN THE FASHION AND BEAUTY INDUSTRY FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS; INCLUDING HAIR, MAKE-UP AND STYLING FOR TELEVISION, EDITORIAL, FASHION WEEKS, CELEBRITIES, AND MANY A FASHION SHOOT OVER THE YEARS. I AM ALSO A CONTENT CREATOR, PUTTING TOGETHER MANY DIFFERENT OUTFITS WEEKLY, WHICH I LOOK FORWARD TO SHARING WITH YOU ALL. I NOW MOSTLY FIND MYSELF BURIED ALIVE AT HOME IN CLOTHES, SKINCARE AND MAKE-UP… EVERY WOMAN’S DREAM.
I also think there is something deeper to looking on expensive sites. Sure, you might not have the money sitting in your bank account right now but having a browse and feeling the feelings of having something is all part of manifesting the things we want in the future. Trust me, that bag that you were not expecting, can just turn up in ways you never expected. Hopefully Aquaman will find his way to my house too!
Once you know the item you have your eye on, pop it into Google and multiple sites will come up with it, including the sites that offer a lookalike or dupe version. Some sites that are particularly good are Amazon, Ego, Totes Luxe UK and Dumy Mun. You can also rely on the high street who do bring out some great dupes, just don't advertise them on your Instagram if you're a content creator!
Local independent
FASHION FINDS
boutiques are also a great place to pick up designer inspired items. If you are local to me, ReStory have just opened their store in Cheam. They had a gorgeous monochrome maxi dress that was really similar to a Chanel dress that Sophia Richie wore as part of her pre-wedding wardrobe in the South of France. They currently have a beautiful pink and orange
striped dress in store that is very similar to a Sandro dress that I saw online, I'd arguably say the ReStory one is nicer.
Styled Right Store in Caterham is also another local hidden gem. Recent designer looking picks have included the Bottega Veneta style drop earrings, Van Cleef inspired jewellery and a lookalike leather jacket of the original which was part of Dolce & Gabbana's Spring/Summer 2001 collection, worn recently by Nicola Peltz-Beckham and previously owned by my style queen Victoria Beckham.
My current top 3 designer bags highlight some exquisite and timeless pieces. Here's a bit more detail to further appreciate each one.
THE FLAMENCO BY LOEWE
Design and History: This iconic design dates back to the 1980s and is notable for its unique drawstring closure with signature coiled knots.

Styling Tips: Pair it with a crisp white T-shirt, jeans, a grey blazer, and either flat sandals or kitten heels for a chic, sophisticated look.
ANDIAMO MEDIUM INTRECCIATO
LEATHER TOTE BY BOTTEGA VENETA
Design and History: This tote boasts a retro shape and is crafted using Bottega Veneta's signature intrecciato weaving technique. The goldtone knot embellishment adds a touch of luxury.
Material and Colours: Made in Italy, it exemplifies the brand's commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
Styling Tips: The versatile design makes it a perfect addition to any outfit, offering both style and functionality.
These bags not only serve as fashionable accessories but also as statements of elegance and sophistication, making them worthy investments for any wardrobe.
CLASSIQUE TRIOMPHE BAG BY CELINE
Design and History: Created by Hedi Slimane in 2018, this bag embodies the Celine silhouette with a Parisian flair. The distinctive clasp makes it instantly recognisable and a classic piece.
Material and Colours: Available in 7 elegant colours, making it a versatile option for daily use.
Styling Tips: Ideal as a day bag, it can be paired with a variety of outfits to add a touch of timeless elegance.

2. Pace the Relationship
MATURE DATING SAFETY TIPS
Getting back into the dating world after a long-term relationship can be extremely daunting. Here Jacqui Baker, founder of www.select-connections.com a unique matchmaking brand for the over 50’s – offers 5 Essential Tips for Staying Safe & feeling Empowered: A Guide for Mature Daters Over 50.
Take the time to get to know your date gradually. Avoid rushing into emotional intimacy too quickly. Building trust and understanding over time can prevent emotional vulnerability and ensure a more stable relationship foundation.
3. Keep Your Support System Informed
Share your dating experiences with close friends or family members. Having a support system can provide emotional reassurance and practical advice, helping you stay grounded and confident.
4. Meet in Public and Safe Locations
For your initial dates, choose well-populated and familiar locations. This ensures your physical safety and allows you to feel more at ease. Inform a friend or family member about your plans, including the location and time of the date.
5. Trust Your Instincts
If something feels off or uncomfortable during a date, don’t ignore those feelings. Your instincts are a powerful tool for staying safe. If necessary, excuse yourself from the situation and seek a safe space.
6. Maintain Financial Independence

By following these tips, you can navigate your dating journey with a sense of security and confidence, both emotionally and physically.
Entering the dating world later in life can be exciting but it is also good to arm yourself with the knowledge you’ll need in today’s dating environment. Many mature daters over 50 find themselves in a whole new dating world that feels unfamiliar, often worrying about safety and vulnerability. Remember, dating at this stage in life is about celebrating your life experience while also protecting your well-being. Here are five essential tips to help you stay safe, empowered, and confident on your journey to finding those allimportant companions.
1. Trust Your Inner Wisdom: You've gained a lifetime of experience- now is the time to trust it. If something feels off, it probably is. Whether it's a suspicious message or an uneasy feeling on a date, don't ignore those instincts. Your inner wisdom is your best guide, so listen to it.
2. Set Clear Boundaries Early: It’s important to define what you’re comfortable with right from the start. Be clear about your boundaries, whether it's how much personal information you share online or how quickly you move forward in a relationship. The right person will respect and honour those boundaries.
3. Take Your Time Getting to Know Someone: It’s easy to get swept up in the excitement of a new connection, but it’s crucial to take your time. Ask questions, observe their behaviour, and pay attention to how they make you feel. Genuine relationships are built over time, not rushed.
4. Keep Personal Information Private: While it's important to share about yourself, be cautious with personal details, especially online. Avoid giving out your home address, financial information, or other sensitive data until you’ve established trust over time.
5. Stay Connected with Your Support System: Don’t go on this journey alone. Share your dating experiences with trusted friends or family members. They can offer valuable perspective, and just knowing someone has your best interests at hear can provide extra peace of mind.
Your dating journey is about finding joy and companionship, but it’s also about keeping your heart and well-being safe. By taking these steps, you can stay empowered, protect your vulnerability, and enjoy the adventure ahead with confidence and clarity.

If you are unsure of what it is you stand for, work on yourself before you make any concrete decisions.

Luckily there are those in your life you can trust in this respect. Whenever you need to vent about your life, go to one of these people you know will take your side. This is a significant time of transformation and change for you Scorpio. You need to now clear away the old in order to bring in the new. Any changes that you experience in August should be welcomed with a positive attitude and should most definitely not be feared. Furthermore, restricting yourself is not the answer right now. Don’t deprive yourself of something you love. Allow yourself to let loose and take pleasure in the joy of life. Finally, you live with your emotions at the forefront of your personality. With this in mind, you are able to deliver sound advice when it comes to helping people with their feelings. You create strong bonds with others through patience and compassion.
Sagittarius
23 NOV – 21 DEC
Patience is going to be key to a happy August Sagittarius. It is likely you’ll face some adversity this month, but by remaining patient and trusting that things will get better, nothing much will be able to keep you down for long. Have faith in the timing of life. Furthermore, focusing on the practical aspects of your life will serve you well in the coming weeks. Take some time to tidy up, organise your finances, and make a to-do list. Your future self will thank you for it. Once you get through some of the trickier aspect of the month, you will feel like you can take on the world! You will be so committed to reaching your goals that nothing will be able to stop you. Your potential is limitless.
Capricorn
22 DEC – 20 JAN
It seems you are attaching yourself to an idea, Cap, when it’s best to keep an open mind. Plans change and we often can’t do much about it. You will always find a way; it just might not be the way you thought. Furthermore, prioritise what’s important to you. You have changed a lot this year, and what’s important to you may not be what you expect. Take some time to think, then every day work towards your new goal. Finally, make sure your contributions at work aren’t going unappreciated. If you feel like your skills aren’t being utilised, let your voice is heard. If you are making a career move, find somewhere that recognises your talents. Astrologically, Pisces will play an important role this month.
21 JAN – 19 FEB
If you feel emotionally vulnerable at the moment, it may be best to talk to someone you trust. This is your time to connect with your subconscious and listen to what your mind is trying to tell you. Nourish your soul by expressing yourself and taking some muchneeded time to relax. As an Aquarius, you have an innocence about you that others appreciate. You have the ability to help people forget about their worries and let go. Just remember to not let your naivety steer you in the wrong direction. Finally, a creative project is emerging, but you are not quite ready to act on it yet. You may be dreaming at the moment about what it will be like once it comes to fruition. When you feel ready, take action.
Pisces
20 FEB – 20 MAR
You have a calmness about you that is untouched by the outside world, Pisces. If you find yourself worrying about the craziness of life, find a quiet place to sit and reflect. Once you are able to refocus on your intuition, outside voices won’t be able to penetrate your calm aura. There are plenty of illusions in life that may make you forget what is real and what’s not. It is down to you to trust your gut and act according to your own beliefs and values. You may make a few mistakes along the way, but you will learn from every one of them. Finally, having faith that everything will work out okay is going to make August a very happy month for you.

The art of living room design
Ideas, tips, and inspiration
Your living room – it’s the heart of your home, a space for relaxation, connection, and expressing your style. But where to begin when faced with endless design choices?
Craft a living room that reflects you Before diving in, consider how you’ll use the space. Do you crave movie nights with friends or quiet evenings with a book? This will guide your furniture choices, from
plush sofas for movie marathons to cosy armchairs for reading nooks.
Focus on functionality
Think beyond aesthetics. Seating, tables, lighting – these are the essential building blocks. A spacious room might call for a sectional sofa, while a smaller space thrives with a comfy armchair and ottomans. Let functionality lead the way.
Small
space, big impact
Small living rooms can be just as inviting. A large rug grounds the space, while strategic lighting combats a cramped feel. Don’t be afraid of bold colours – a dark, dramatic hue can add depth, while lighter tones create an illusion of spaciousness.
Embrace your unique style
Modern? Industrial? Romantic? Minimalist? BoConcept offers a curated selection to suit any taste. From minimalist lines to plush textures, their furniture is as beautiful as it is functional.
You. In every detail
Go beyond cookie-cutter design. Collaborate with a designer to bring your vision to
life. Whether you crave a serene sanctuary or a vibrant space bursting with personality, they will help empower you to create a living room that reflects the true you.
For those seeking to create a living space that just the way you want it, booking a free interior design consultation with one of BoConcept’s experts is the perfect starting point.
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE BACK PERFORMING AT GUILFEST?
It feels absolutely great. We really enjoyed playing to such an eclectic audience of all different age ranges. We’ve enjoyed playing the classics, jazz, funk, punk, funk, new wave, all various genres of music thrown into one cohesive body of work.
THE BLOCKHEADS COVER A LOT OF GENRES OF MUSIC IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE ONE FAVOURITE GENRE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
For Chaz Jankel I would say ‘Funk’ and for the band ‘New Wave’ although with a bit of ‘Hard Rock’ thrown in. So eclectic! Because of Ian Drury’s iconic performances and because of the time it came
It was great to catch up with Mike Bennett, the lead singer of The Blockheads at Guilfest on Saturday 30th June. The Blockheads are an English rock band formed in London in 1977. Originally fronted by lead singer Ian Dury as Ian Dury and the Blockheads, the band has continued to perform since Dury's death in 2000. They are known for hits like ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick’, ‘Same Horse Different Jockey’ and ‘Sex and Drugs’.
out it captured the audiences of punk but introduced Miles Davis, Parliament and Stevie Dann and groups like this into the new wave scene, so I think that’s why The Blockheads are so unique. Also behind me is a Rolls Royce, so I can afford areal posh ride home!
ARE YOU ENJOYING GUILFEST?
Very much so and I’m looking forward to seeing The Stranglers later. I worked with them back in the day and looking forward to seeing them in this incarnationthey are keeping the spirit of ‘77 alive!
WHAT INPIRES YOU WHEN WRITING SONGS?
Chaz is my producer and he hears me telling anecdotes of things that have happened to me and encourages me to put them down into iambic pentameter and rhyming cupalites. Each verse is a little vignette. It’s all about lyrics and telling stories. Writing things that people can identify with in a universal way.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE A FAVOURITE BLOCKHEADS SONG?
My favourite from a performance perspective is ‘Billericay Dickie’
and then I really enjoy ‘Sweet Jean Vincent’ – starts off as a lullaby and then goes into a rock song. It ends with “If your leg still hurts and you need more shirts, you have got to get back on the road.” There’s an obvious reference that Ian Drury made there that identifies with one of his icons.
IF YOU HAD TO TAKE 3 THINGS TO A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
A pair of sandals, a glam rock album and a beautiful woman!
BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
It was by Chaz Jankel in this band and he said “Leave your producers hat at the door.”
WHAT IS YOUR WORST HABIT?
It is pacing around like a lunatic, with ADHD (which I have in abundance) and irritating the fuck out of everyone with my ADHD!!
WELL WE LIKE YOUR HIGH ENERGY & WOULDN’T HAVE YOU ANY OTHER WAY?!
Thank you very much! Well I don’t agree with the word “disorder”.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?
I wanted to be the lead singer of an iconic band! Oddly enough!
WHAT’S THE MOST EMBARRASSING ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE? A pencil skirt.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR EYELINER? (ITS SO GOOD AND HASN’T SMUDGED!)
Camden Market.
WHO WAS THE WORST SHOWBIZ PERSON YOU HAVE MET?
Finding it hard to dish the dirt. Can’t think of anyone. Give me another question?
WHAT COULDN’T YOU LIVE WITHOUT?
Cigarettes.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR 2024/2025?
We are booked right through till the end of March 2025! About 70 more dates I think. And then I am doing a lot of writing, including a book with Boy George called ‘Hansel & Metal’ – a homoerotic spin on ‘Hansel & Gretel’ he plays both characters in this X rated audiobook. It’s no worse than ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ on acid!! After turning it into an audiobook we are hopefully going to turn it into a musical.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO ADD TO ALL OUR SURREY READERS?
I just want to say that this has been one of the best audiences I have ever played to - such a mix of age ranges, and perfect for The Blockheads.
