Light Touch Clinic in Weybridge are launching 3 new beauty treatments this month; Mesotherapy, PRP and Semi-Permanent Make-up. Mesotherapy improves dull, tired looking skin and superficial wrinkles, improves blood circulation - aiding the body to flush out ageing toxins. This treatment can also be used to address hyperpigmentation and treat acne, combined with a light chemical peel and dermalux. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are gaining popularity for a variety of conditions, from sports injuries to hair loss. The treatment uses a patient’s own blood cells to accelerate healing in a specific area. PRP can be used anywhere on the body, but it’s most often used to rejuvenate skin on the face and neck and can be performed with fat grafting or microneedling to maximise the results of those procedures. With such fast-paced lives, many people just want to wake up and go. They haven’t got the time to start measuring and drawing on their eyebrows, lips or eyeliner so permanent make-up is the perfect time-saving solution and available with top practitioners at Light Touch!
Tom Cruise, Sir Tom Jones, Dame Joan Collins, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star Oti Mabuse, (who recently attended our SFW event) Olly Murs, Paloma Faith and ‘Pussycat’ Dolls Nicole Scherzinger are among the celebs that have come together to support King Charles III’s Coronation on May 6th.
Most of the celebrities have created personalised video messages ahead of the big day. Murs and Scherzinger will perform alongside Nigerian singer
Tiwa Savage and DJ Pete Tong with his Ibiza Classics project as well as the winner of ‘The Piano’ talent show.
Winnie the Pooh will also appear apparently!
But it hasn’t been an easy ride for the Coronation concert organisers to get A-listers on board. Ed Sheeren, Kylie Minogue, Harry Styles, Adele and Tom Jones were on the top of the King’s list to perform but they have all made their apologies and ducked out of the event!
The glitzy, red carpet Surrey Awards 2023, rewarding the best of the best in Surrey businesses on May 25th at Denbies Vineyard in Dorking, will see the who’s who of Surrey’s elite in attendance alongside TV, press, radio and celebrities including ‘EastEnders’ Matt Lapinskas, Radio 1 DJ Kid Jensen, ‘Top Boy’ actor Shone Rumulus, comedian Bobby Davro, TV personality Lizzie Cundy and Brit actress Rachel Warren from ‘Rise of the Footsoldiers’ having already confirmed their attendance.
Walking the celebrity catwalk will be ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Amelia Mist, ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ winner and ‘James Bond’ actor Jason Burrill, ‘Celebs Go Dating’ presenter Nadia Essex and ‘Love Islanders’ Jack Cornish and Idris Virgo among more top billed, soon to be announced names from the stage and screen.
The Surrey Awards £125 ticket price includes a welcome drinks reception, 3 course meal, wine and 5 great live entertainment acts including ‘Tatler’ harpist Amie True, Sav ‘Head of Magic’, RR360’s LED 360 video booth, MTV’s DJ Cream and ‘X Factors’ Russell Jones, surprise live PA’s and a fashion extravaganza from Surrey Fashion Week. All profits after costs will be going to Prostate Cancer UK. Get your ticket here now: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/surreyawards-2023-tickets-565945667727
Madonna has bagged herself another younger man, Josh Popper, aged 29, following her recent split with Ahlamalik Williams, aged 28.
The iconic ‘Holiday’ singer, 64, proudly showed off her new boxer boyfriend Popper, with a smiling pic of the pair backstage at a New York concert together. Madonna took to Instagram to document the occasion.
Madonna has a history of dating much younger men. After her split from ‘Lock Stock’ director Guy Richie she dated DJ and model Jesus Luz, 35, from 2009 till 2010, dancer Brahim Zaibat, 35, from 2010 until 2013, personal trainer and dancer Timor Steffens, 34, in 2014, model Aboubakar Soumahoro, 31, between 2016 and 2017, model Kevin Sampaio, 34, in 2018, and Ahlamalik Williams from 2019 until April this year.
A whole host of celebrities, including ‘EastEnders’ actress Vicki Michelle MBE, TV racing presenter and former jockey Leonna Mayor, presenter and former model Rosie Tapner, mezzo-soprano Laura Wright and ‘Love Islander’ Kady Mcdermott modelled a fascination of hats created by some of the biggest names in UK millinery.
The celebrities jumped at the chance to support this event, hosted at Epsom Racecourse by The Jockey Club, raising money for Brain Tumour Research. Local suppliers including Surrey Frills and Make Up by Jana, gave their time to dress, make-up and coiffeur the hats and the models to create a stunning display.
The hats were also modelled by Brain Tumour patients, ahead of going on show at two of the highest profile weekends of the summer season at Newmarket on May 5th – 7th and the Derby in Epsom on June 2nd and 3rd. They will be promoted online using the hashtag #AllTheKingsColours and will feature in an online auction which runs until midnight on June 11th with the proceeds going to the charity. See www.braintumourresearch. org/fundraise/hat-auction to make a bid now on these colourful millinary masterpieces.
Billionaire tycoon Elon Musk had a tough time of it during the last week of April when his Space X Starship test flight exploded midair, his blue tick Twitter verification launched into its paid for only model to very little fanfare and Tesla saw its net income decrease from more than 20% on the prior year on narrowing margins.
Well they always say it comes in three. Or maybe that should be 4! As the institutional shareholders in Tesla admonished the company’s board of directors to reign in an “over committed” CEO Elon Musk – according to an open letter made public on April 21st.
Poor old billionaire Musk (we don’t hear you say!)
By far the worst for Musk personally was his beloved Space X Starship explosion as this is the area he is most passionate about. However, spin doctors are already calling it a “success failure” as the dramatic loss of the rocket ship would invariably result in “further improvements”. That is after the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has investigated the incident. Space X Starship made it off the launch pad at least – but is now grounded pending the FAA evaluations. Before the explosion, local environmental and indigenous rights groups protested the launch anticipating harm to wildlife, people’s health and property. And as it turns out the billion dollar Starship itself!
So back to Twitter-gate. President Joe Biden, the Pope and Beyoncé were among the global public figures to have their blue ticks removed by the social media giant, Twitter, owned by Musk for not paying the annual £67.72 fee to have the badge of honour.
BBC ‘Match of the Day’ presenter Gary Lineker forked out for his blue tick but has joked he know feels “very uncool!”
‘Big Brother’ and Radio 2 host Rylan Clark who joined the Pope and Biden in the non-payment camp, joked: “Bye bye blue tick. At least now I can tweet s**t and say it wasn’t the real me!”
Musk payed £35 billion for Twitter last October and is intent on making the bluebird social media platform more popular than Tik
Tok and Instagram. To do this he needs bucks, big bucks and this new charge could give him just that – but could also pave the way for other social media channels to charge for their verification processes. At the moment they are keeping schtum, waiting in the sidelines to see how Musk’s controversial experiment goes. We’re going to love watching this unfold too! As TV presenters Ant & Dec remarked: “It’s all ticking off now!”

This Jamie Oliver dish looks mightily impressive when served at a dinner party as Oliver himself enthuses: “Lamb like this is a total treat – it looks dramatic, and gives you tender blushing meat, with an irresistible feisty crumb. It’s also easy to scale up or down for two, six or eight, just tweak the timings instinctively.” A great recipe and delicious served with a red wine jus, dauphinoise potatoes and seasonal vegetables if time is on your side.
(Serves 4)
• 2 x French-trimmed 7-bone racks of lamb, (caps, fat and sinews removed)
• olive oil
• unsalted butter
• 3 cloves of garlic
• 100g shelled pistachios
• 1 bunch of fresh flat-leaf parsley (30g)
• 75g bread
• 1 whole nutmeg, for grating
• Dijon mustard
• Green Beans
• 350g fine green beans
• 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
• extra virgin olive oil
• ½ a lemon
• 3 sprigs of fresh tarragon
1. Get your meat out of the fridge and up to room temperature before you cook it. Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4.
2. Drizzle the lamb racks with olive oil and sprinkle generously with sea salt and black pepper, patting the seasoning all over the meat.
3. Sear in a hot frying pan on a high heat with a little extra oil and 1 knob of butter for 2 to 3 minutes, turning with tongs until golden all over, then remove the racks to a roasting tray and let them cool.
4. Peel 2 cloves of garlic and place in a food processor with the pistachios and parsley (stalks and all). Tear in the bread, finely grate in half the nutmeg and blitz into a fine green crumb.
5. Generously brush each lamb rack with mustard, then cover with the herby crumb, patting it all over the top and sides.
6. Roast for 25 minutes, until the crust is crisp, to give you beautifully blushing lamb. Remove from the oven and leave the lamb to rest for 10 minutes.
7. Meanwhile, trim just the stalk ends off the green beans and cook for 6 to 7 minutes in a pan of boiling salted water.
8 Crush the remaining unpeeled clove of garlic through a garlic crusher into a jar and mix with 1 teaspoon of mustard, the vinegar, 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and the lemon juice, then taste and season to perfection.
9. Finely chop and add the tarragon leaves. Drain the beans and toss with the dressing. Carve up the lamb and serve with the dressed green beans and Dauphinoise Potatoes or mash if time is tight.
Lamb is one of the most wine friendly meats, as perfect with a red Bordeaux and Rioja as it is with the fruitier wines of the new world. But if you’re looking for a perfect wine pairing it’s worth thinking just how - and for how long - you’re going to cook it. With lamb roasted and served pink, like in this Jamie Oliver rack of lamb recipe, a Pinot Noir or Cru Beaujolais would work well. Alternatively, if you wanted to steer clear of reds a dry rosé, especially vintage rosé Champagne, is also particularly good.
The final film in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise ‘Fast X’ is already billed as being one of the best yet.
Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dominic Toretto (played by Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted and outdriven every foe in their path.
Although now in the 10th and final film, they must confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced, Dante (played by the brooding, man mountain Jason Momoa).
The film’s synopsis reveals: ”Fueled by revenge, a terrifying threat emerges from the shadows of the past to shatter Dom’s world and destroy everything and everyone he loves.”
Dante, played by Momoa is already shaping up to be one of the baddest badies in the Fast & Furious franchise. He has a strong connection to 2011’s ‘Fast Five’, a movie widely seen as one of the best in the series.
The ‘Fast X’ trailer reveals that Dante is the son of Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), a Rio de Janeiro crime lord who Dom and Brian (Paul Walker) kill during the ‘Fast Five’ climax.
This ‘Fast Five’ connection means that Dante, who is seeking revenge for the death of his father, is overcome with evil and revenge.
Although his powerful motives seem to be combined with a more general bloodlust and desire for chaos. Just how unhinged Momoa’s villain really is in the upcoming film is made clear by one moment in the ‘Fast X’ trailer when Dante licks the blood of one of his enemies off of a knife.
Also starring Michelle Rodriguez as Letty and Brie Larson as Tess, the daughter of Mr Nobody (played by Kurt Russell)this is set to be a box office smash when it is released in cinemas nationwide from May 19th.
Four-time Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling singer Engelbert Humperdinck is releasing a new album on May 2nd, which also happens to be the singer’s 87th birthday! He shows off his romantic side with his album ‘All About Love’ - consisting of his uniquely personal renditions of some of the greatest love songs of all time.
Engelbert kicks off the new album with his recent hit ‘You’re The First, The Last, My Everything’ delivering a fresh take on Barry White’s 1974 chart-topping record, Engelbert turns the classic track into a Country Line Dance number. The accompanying music video filmed at the Cowboy Palace Saloon – an authentic Honky Tonk Club in California, has amassed well over an astounding 2.7 million views on YouTube since its premiere. Also included in his album is a marvellous interpretation of the Bee Gees’ first US #1, ‘How Can You Mend A Broken Heart’ Mel & Tim’s classic ‘Starting All Over Again’, ‘Take Me Back Again’, and the exhilarating Lou Rawls’ standard ‘You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine’ are featured on the ‘All About Love’ album along with stunning new renditions of chart-topping songs from the likes of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, The Manhattans, The Three Degrees, The Flamingos, Carole King and more. The album is bookended by two duets sung partially in Spanish with Mexican stars Angelica Maria and Lupita Infante.
Recorded at the famous Black Bird Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, with some of the best musicians in town – including Grammy-winning and Country Music Hall of Fame harmonica player Charlie McCoy, the album delivers a beautiful blend of country and soul productions, providing a sneak peek at the singer’s current live set.
Although this debut novel by Garmus came out last year it is set to be turned into a movie starring the fabulous Brie Larson later this year, so we thought we’d give it a review for you this May – we all know how much better it is to read the book before the film comes out! Not the other way round.
The main story centres around how institutions take a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one man: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel-prize nominated grudgeholder who falls in love with - of all things – our heroine Elizabeth Zott’s mind. True chemistry ensues.
But like science, life is unpredictable. Which is why a few years later, Elizabeth Zott finds herself not only a single mother in LA in the Sixties, but the reluctant star of America’s most beloved cooking show ‘Supper at Six’.
Elizabeth’s unusual approach to cooking (‘combine one tablespoon acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride’) proves revolutionary. But as her following grows, not everyone is happy. Because as it turns out, Elizabeth isn’t just teaching women to cook. She’s daring them to change the status quo being completely unconventional and uncompromising!
It’s a laugh out loud rendition of one women’s amazing story to superstardom against all the odds. Lessons in Chemistry has made the Sunday Times and NY Times Bestseller List with celebrity chef Nigella Lawson saying, “I am devastated to have finished it!”

Dr Go Figure is a revolutionary weight loss programme, using the most cutting edge and innovative technology to essentially bio hack your way to faster more effective weight loss. Dr Go Figure is all about improving the way we lose weight. This is not a quick fix Faddy diet.
We use the Emerald laser to liquidise and release the fat from the fat cell. We then use a lymphatic drainage suit to break down the released fat allowing it to be metabolised away quickly.
We combine this with EMS - Electro muscle stimulation personal training. This involves wearing a suit that delivers electrical impulses externally to the muscles. This means that when you’re doing something like a simple bicep curl, you are also building muscles in your thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, back shoulders, et cetera) you can do a full body workout in only 20 minutes. By combining the Emerald laser with EMS we are able to deliver safe, effective weight loss, approximately 30% faster than doing it on your own.
The Dr Go Figure programme also includes nutritional coaching, 3-D scanning, so we can see improvements in body composition and podcasts to educate you on how your body works, and the kind of nutrition it needs.
The Dr Go Figure programme is available exclusively at Light Touch Clinic Weybridge. It is one of the most cutting-edge weight loss programmes available today.

Surrey Rocks had the pleasure of catching up with ‘Aliens Don’t Ring Doorbells’ frontman Adam for a chat about obscure band names (!), life on tour, creating hitmaking records and the all-important ‘Mental Health Awareness Month’ this May following the release of their new single ‘Are You Crazy’ on April 21 - highlighting this taboo subject matter and breaking mental health barriers. It can safely be said that Aliens Don’t Ring Doorbells are back with a bang, as they release their third single ‘Are You Crazy’ from their upcoming sophomore album.
‘Are You Crazy’ is not just another infectious pop-rock hit but a heartfelt message to the world, with an explosive arena-ready chorus that captivates audiences. Showcasing ADRD’s masterful and iconic fusion of pop, prog and swing with an added dose of rock energy. The guitars are massive, soaring to dizzying heights over a thundering rhythm section that will shake the foundations of any stadium. The vocals are powerful and emotive, inviting listeners to join in a cathartic release of energy and emotion. During the release of their debut album ‘Arrival’ in 2020, the album was welcomed with open arms and loved by many, solidifying ADRD’s name amongst up and coming pop rock stars. The band found recent major success within the United States as two of their songs (‘Daylight’ and ‘It’s Your Night’) rocketed through to break into the Top 30 in the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. ‘Hello 2 You’, the first single off of their upcoming 2nd album, also broke into the Top 30 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts in 2022.
After supporting Scouting for Girls on their UK tour, the band played a showcase in LA and supported Roachford on his European tour in Germany, then Switzerland and Austria.
The band are just about to kick off another UK tour with the fantastic Boyzlife (Boyzone meshed with Westlife featuring Keith Duffy and Bryan McFadden) this May.
Read all about our ‘close encounter’ with the Aliens…
HOW DID ALIENS DON’T RING DOORBELLS FORM?
We were all messing about in bands for quite a long time and when our guitarist Dorian come over from the States he joined us and we kind of just all got together and decided this was it!
AND TELL US ABOUT HOW THE NAME COME ABOUT?
Well it came from Dorian… he was on the subway in New York when a homeless, old guy was wandering around and just randomly shouted out, “Alien’s don’t ring doorbells,” at him. That’s all he said and wandered off. We were a bit undecided about the name as it’s quite long-winded but then we all thought it is so different and memorable and ADRD was formed.
ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO TOURING WITH BOYZLIFE?
Very much so. We have been gigging for years as a live performance band, you get to see different crowds, auditoriums, stages and places and we love it - it’s what we do and it’s a fun thing to do. We are quite privileged to do this, we know that. I do personally prefer the smaller gigs when you get the crowd right up in your face and you
can really feel the crowd. There’s nothing like the buzz of live performing.
Not yet but looking forward to it next week when the tour kicks off! Our mate is Rick Astley’s drummer Simon Merry who said he knows them and all the guys in the band are a great bunch. I’m sure we will all get on famously!
Yeah it’s a positive song although discussing mental health we tried to make it upbeat and positive. We all co-wrote it last Summer and it has some jokey lyrics and is meant to be fun. This is why we wanted to tackle this subject matter – to bring a lighter side to it so it’s not as taboo.
HOW IMPORTANT IS MENTAL HEALTH TO YOU?
As someone who has struggled with clinical depression for many years, I can attest to the fact that it’s not just a matter of feeling ‘sad’ or ‘down’ - it’s a pervasive feeling of unease and anxiety that can make even the simplest tasks seem insurmountable. That’s why it’s so important to talk about mental illness openly and honestly and
to seek help when you need it. Whether that means talking to a doctor, trying therapy, or simply confiding in a trusted friend or family member, reaching out and seeking support can make a world of difference. For me, having the support of my loved ones has been crucial in managing my depression. And while the medication isn’t the right solution for everyone, it has helped me to balance my serotonin levels and improve my mood and overall well-being.
CAN YOU GIVE ANY ADVICE TO READERS WHO COULD BE SUFFERING WITH MENTAL HEALTH?
Well, if you’re struggling with mental illness, know that you’re not alone - and that there is help out there. Remember: a problem shared is a problem halved.
TOURING WITH THE GREATS, FESTIVALS & MORE MATERIAL TO COME
ADRD’s live performances are not to be missed so if you are looking for a cool pop rock vibe be sure to book tickets. ADRD’s live shows are a testament to the band’s ability to connect with their fans and spread their message of hope and positivity. And you can catch them on tour with Boyzlife ‘Old School Part 2’ from May 4th starting in Leicester before hitting Croydon’s Fairfield
Hall on May 12th. After the tour wraps up on May 27th, the band who are based in Spain but from the UK and US, will be a 2023 Main Stage act at the following Foodies Festivals in the UK:
• Brighton, Preston Park on Sunday 30 April
• London, Syon Park on Monday 29 May
• Exeter, Escot Park on Sunday 18 June
• Chelmsford, Hylands Park on Saturday 24 June
• Cheshire, Tatton Park on Sunday 9 July
• Winchester, Winchester Devils Island, Winchester on Saturday 15 July
• Norwich, Earlham Park on Sunday 10 September
“It’s unusual for an independently released, debut album to achieve mainstream adult contemporary pop/rock success as fast as Aliens Don’t Ring Doorbells did. But then again, Aliens Don’t Ring Doorbells are no ordinary band.” - Headliner
“Sublime… a very promising debut album” - Maverick
Surrey Fashion Week co-founder and celebrity journalist Angela Sara West gives the lowdown on her latest inclusive ‘Celebrity Fashion Show’ events with Surrey Rocks, spills on partying with Prince Zylinski at his palatial White House London home for Ukraine, and looks forward to the inaugural Surrey Awards 2023 in collaboration with SFW23 this month.
Think you’re too old to model? Think again! You CAN shimmy down that catwalk, whatever your age or ability, even if you’re wheelchair-bound like our shining ‘star of Surrey Fashion Week 2022’, two-time Paralympian world-class tennis player Louise Hunt. With Hollywood and high-profile TV and soap stars strutting their stuff on the runway, too, last September’s Surrey Fashion Week UK’s Celebrity Charity Catwalk Show saw a plethora of famous faces walk an inclusive Fashion Week in our stylish county.
From a ‘Bond’ star making his modelling debut, an Emmy Award-winning teen and fashionista baby, to a former Miss Great Britain and Miss World runner-up showing she’s still got it at the grand ‘young’ age of 78, we even saw debonair dogs dashing down our diverse catwalk! The star-studded event featured a vast array of brands, models and musicians, all uniting for Surrey Fashion Week UK (SFW).
What’s more, Louise wasn’t the only well-known tennis player on board our philanthropic event - former World no.1 tennis player, Surrey-based Andy Murray, is also a supporter of SFW, and kindly signed one of his coveted luxury AMC x Castore sports shirts exclusively for us to auction off in aid of Mind mental health in our accompanying silent auction.
Our SFW22 concept show, combining fashion with music and dance, stemmed from the success of the starry fashion and music event launched by Surrey-based Kim and her pro model husband Max Rogers. That inaugural celebrity charity fashion showcase kicked off with a phenomenal promo photoshoot with former girl band member Kim and her hubby Max and Surrey Rocks magazine to promote our first 2021 celebrity charity catwalk show. Our exclusive 2021 event was fittingly held in aid of late fashion royalty, Dame Vivienne Westwood’s Cool Earth charity, raising not only awareness of the issues caused by ‘fast fashion’ and the importance of shopping sustainably, but also seeing all profits from ticket sales and the accompanying silent
auction go to the world-famous fashion designer’s fundraiser, which strives to keep the rainforest standing and help halt climate change. Set amidst acres of Surrey parkland, Horsley Towers oozes history and heritage at every turn… plus a panoramic terrace with picture-perfect views over its extensive grounds.
“I LOVED doing this shoot!” Kim told me. “I love living in Surrey and discovering gorgeous places like this in Horsley!” she said of the jaw-dropping estate.
Our chosen charity for our second Surrey Fashion showcase - our first official SFW show in collaboration with Surrey Rocks in September 2022 - was Mind mental health charity, and on a mission to make it an inclusive show, our mix of celebrity and pro models came in all shapes and sizes, as well as ages and abilities, too. Aged from just 14 to almost 80, and with pooches and a Paralympian whizzing along the runway in her wheelchair too, our diverse show really was inclusive to all.
Our star-studded show, sponsored by Hampton Court Gin and our ‘Made In Chelsea’ TV star model Amelia Mist’s London Cru’s wine spritzer LDN SPRITZ, was a truly exclusive red-carpet affair. The exquisite venue saw our glitzy guests greeted with a glass of artisan
gin or bubbly before rubbing shoulders with the stars of Surrey and beyond. SFW22’s coveted VIP guest list boasted two-time BBC ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ glitterball winner, professional dance champion Oti Mabuse (now a respected judge on reality TV shows ‘Dancing On Ice’ and ‘The Masked Dancer’) and her ‘Strictly’ pro dancer husband Marius Lepure, along with numerous other showbiz names. ‘Bond’ stars, ‘Strictly’ stars, ‘Made In Chelsea’ stars, Sky Sports presenters, BBC football commentators and racing drivers, along with BRIT Award-winning singers and Emmy Award-winning actors and more gathered at Great Fosters that night… Also rocking up to our venue for the evening was the glamorous Goddess Jessica Monaco, an internationally published cover model and philanthropic actress who has represented Kingston in Miss Great Britain, jaw-droppingly dressed in a sparkly LBD complete with a super-stylish hood. Our dress code? ‘Glam’, of course! Surrey Magazine, Surrey Frills,Two Women Chatting, BBC Radio and Getty Images were in attendance too.
What’s more, the glamourous evening at Great Fosters was also the launch party for BRIT Award-winning S Club 7 band member Jo O’ Meara’s new music! We witnessed her very first live performance of her Halloween track - a cover of Michael Jackson’s hit ‘Thriller’ to mark the 40th anniversary of the song’s release.
Jo also had us all over the moon with her incredible rendition of S Club’s huge hit ‘Reach For The Stars’, seeing everyone up on their feet singing and dancing along with her. As one of the hottest new stars in music, the super-talented Surrey-born singersongwriter Cassa Jackson, who modelled and sang at our first show, delivered another pitch-perfect performance showcasing her latest single ‘Sophie’, singing her heart out to a captivated audience, as did Eleni C and her amazing dance crew.
The stage set by Surrey’s Esher Theatre, stepping onto the stage to welcome the anticipant crowd, the brilliant Bryn Lucas, a Surrey-based Sky Sports and World Rallycross presenter and football commentator for BBC Sport, enthralled the audience with his hosting talents. Sporting one of our male designers’ pieces, a super-smart Howard & Co suit, our chivalrous compère for the night took to the mic to announce proceedings, plus the fashion brands, dance and live music acts.
The show was sensationally kicked off in true ‘Strictly’ style by amazing award-winning professional Argentine Tango dancers, Maria Tsiatsiani & Leandro Palou, choreographers on the BBC’s flagship ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ TV show, who delighted the
audience with a dazzling dance number – complete with high kicks and huge wow appeal.
To shout about our strong ‘support local’ message, we invited the cream of our county’s crop of fashion brands to showcase at SFW. Multi-brand Boutique Sale boasts luxury designer womenswear, footwear and accessories in a vast selection of styles at cut-down prices. Nettie Knows, meanwhile, showcases a stunning range of womenswear, kidswear & accessories at their beautiful Weybridge-based boutique.
Surrey Hills-based Haus of Paint use eco inks and fabrics to create a bespoke range of art-inspired garments from Gina, all hand sewn by a local team of talented seamstresses. Gina’s famous fans include TV presenter Angellica Bell. The dream and inspiration of Amanda Warren, whose passion is to bring trending styles alongside unique and distinct pieces, Ruby La La boutique in Farnham brought sparkle aplenty to our show. Rosella Style chooses clothes that will suit all ages and shapes. At fantastic value, you’ll find wardrobe essentials with timeless functionality, smoothly taking you from season to season. Exciting fashion & lifestyle brand
Eluroom inspires women to radiate joy through effortless style & mindset, to live a full spirited life with confidence.
Male brand and Horley-based Lonesome is an independent streetwear collective that produces handcrafted prints on different garments, drawing elements of urban art, streetwear and skateboarding culture to create unique and impactful designs. The Interior Edit, meanwhile, is a stunning lifestyle store stocking a range of beautiful artefacts, clothing, gifts, jewellery, furniture and more, with products carefully chosen from suppliers all around the globe.
Serving Surrey too, dapper Kent-based men’s attire brand Howard & Co. is a super smart brand and THE go-to menswear brand for the very finest of handcrafted attire and handmade shoes. With a HUGE celebrity following, whatever the occasion,
the team will suitably suit’n’boot you from top-to-toe. Love from Betty, meanwhile, matches dog outfits to their owners’ attire, meaning they can twin! Honoura is an earth-friendly conscious jewellery brand founded in 2020, with an aim to deliver sensational style and sustainability, while Lily & Grace’s unique makes offer you jewellery as unique as you are, to brighten up your accessories world!
First up fashion-wise, round one on the ramp simultaneously featured three generations of a very fashionable Surrey family, comprising former Miss Great Britain & Miss World runner-up Kathleen, still rockin’ the runway at nearly 80 along with her model daughter Kate (founder of La Vida Model Management agency), who
walked carrying her six-week-old fashionista daughter Lily Mae, also showing off the creative talents of local brands in Nettie Knows.
Followed by further famous catwalk queens & kings highlighting the very best of Surrey fashion, ‘Made In Chelsea’ star Amelia Mist also modelled at our 2021 show, as did her runway partner at one point, Surrey-born soap star Matt Lapinksas.
Just as she did at our show the previous year, bubbly Amelia literally skipped onto the catwalk adorning a stunning piece and gave us a twirl, her infectious personality, along with her outfit, delighting the cheering crowd. The popular reality TV star later showcased Surrey’s new streetwear brand alongside Matt, with the celebrity pair together giving some great endof-catwalk kicks for the camera!
Supported from the sidelines by her new husband - the equally inspiring Paralympian Chris Skelley, a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Champion who received his much-deserved MBE at Windsor Castle last year, before saying ‘I do’ to the lovely Louise just three
weeks before our show – our incredible two-time Paralympian proudly modelled seamlessly in her wheelchair. The world-class tennis player & Wimbledon 2022 commentator, who also modelled at LFW last year, is proud to be on the #disabilitypowerlist, and gave a short talk with fellow wheelchair model Samanta Bullock on our SFW22 ‘inclusive & diverse’ show theme. Fresh off the runway from her very own Fashion Week show, London Represents, Samanta boasts a place in the 100 Most Influential Disabled People.
Big screen ‘Bond’ star & ‘Big Brother’ winner Jason Burrill made his modelling debut at SFW22. Since winning ‘Big Brother’, philanthropic Jason has forged a highly successful career in property and acting, starring in ‘The Serpent’ and as a body double in the James Bond film ‘Spectre’ and in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
Our incredible teen male model, 15-year-old Emmy Award-winning actor Billy Barratt, made history in 2020 when, aged just 13, he became the youngest recipient of an International EMMY Award for Best Performance By An Actor for his starring role in psychological drama ‘Responsible Child’. Looking supercool in male streetwear brand Lonesome, Billie ROCKED the runway and was the nicest guy to chat to backstage.
Magnificent Maisie Lowe, who won first place in the Editorial Fashionistas category at Top Model UK 2021
was reunited on our catwalk with the gorgeous LFW 2022 model Georgina Hall. Tabloid fave Melissa Howe, who has graced the covers of GQ & FHM, modelled with her close friend Fifty Shades of Rose, while the reigning Miss Surrey, glamorous Neha Duhill, was very much on point on our runway. Top transformational coach and TV presenter Aysha Bell not only modelled, but also kindly donated a place on her wellbeing retreat in Goa or Cyprus to our silent auction in aid of Ukraine.
Victoria Featherstone Pearce stunned in her outfits, carrying her cute K-9 Angels’ charity rescue pups. Other pro models included our stunningly beautiful mature
model Sophie Davies from last year’s runway and ‘Your Second-hand Style Sister’ Charlotte Wright-Hammond. Look no further than your thrifty sidekick and fun digital creator Lottie for second-hand inspo in spades! We also featured Surrey’s fab family of models, comprising young teen twin models Sophia & James Burgoyne and older sis Issy who was sweet 16, along with their lovely mum Helen who, sadly, has recently been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer, but looked fighting fit and incredible as she strutted her stuff at SFW! A huge thanks goes out the fab backstage hair and MUA team of Emma Bright, Make Up by Jana, Diana Taybridge, Millie Shanks, Taz and Emerson.
Ukrainian model, ‘Little Lady in Big Business’ Tetiana Doronina, is a Surreybased TV presenter and certified luxury brand strategist. The thenpregnant Tetiana walked with her famous fashion-donning toddler in tow. If you think her adorable model son David Barabash looks familiar, you’re not wrong - this super-cute
Surrey-born toddler is already world famous. At just three months-old, he starred on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ and featured in the press last year for his striking resemblance to a ‘Baby Boris Johnson’! Born in Kyiv, his model mum Tetiana is also co-founder of the British-Ukrainian Business Women Association (BUBWA) which supports Ukrainian businesswomen temporarily in the UK through its specificallydeveloped programme.
What’s more, we even had DOGS on the catwalk! Rescue dogs from Romania donned matching couture clothing with the famous faces walking them at our unique event to raise awareness of aforementioned Victoria’s K-9 dog rescue charity, which is currently working particularly hard to rescue dogs in Ukraine. The final round finished flamboyantly with a full-on finale. Everyone put their hands together as our male models lined up on the ramp, along with our token lady model Lottie, all suitably suited’n’booted in high-profile men’s fashion brand Howard & Co. showcasing its finest handcrafted attire teamed with gorgeous handmade shoes.
Love Islander-turned-boxing-pro Idris Virgo, who has starred on ‘The Challenge’ & ‘Catfish’,
looked dashingly dapper donning his goto fashion brand, making a smart and stylish statement alongside ‘Strictly’ stars Marius and Leandro, ‘Bond’ actor Jason, soap star Matt, actor/model Craig Mearing, Richard Colvill and the brand’s founder Darran, not forgetting the lovely Lottie, all looking SHARP AS in smart suits. Having previously performed alongside Surrey singer Peter Andre, Grammy Award winner Nicole Scherzinger, BRIT Award winner Jessie J and the amazing Mabel, sizzling singer/songwriter and mental health advocate Eleni ended the show with a showstopper of a performance, bringing
our memorable celebrity catwalk spectacle to a close. Everyone then put their hands together as our models lined up on the ramp, gave us a twirl and took a bow, before Bryn delivered our ‘thank you’ speech. Following a fab fashion-filled evening, it was time to party, and our supercool DJ Stan Mitchell of ‘Love Puppy’, Ministry of Sound and Blue Marlin Ibiza fame, who has played alongside industry legends at Pacha, Egg and The Cross too, made sure everyone did just that. As top tunes span on the decks, the dancefloor filled with fashionistas and a whole host of famous party guests.
Our subsequent collaborative fundraising gala took place this February at Polish Prince Zylinski’s unique palatial home, The White House London. Marking the anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, Surrey Rocks and I assisted our Ukrainian SFW model, Tetiana, to raise funds to help Ukrainian children and adults through her BUBWA Association (which works with the Medway charity) as well as international charity Hospices of Hope. The charity is currently fundraising to build a much-needed new hospice in war-torn Ukraine. My glitzy VIP guestlist included Hollywood actor River Hawkins, who has starred in ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, ‘C.S. Lewis: Beyond Narnia’ and ‘Manolo, The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards’ along with ‘Big Brother’ winner-turned-‘Bond’ star Jason Burrill and actress/ social media sensation Chloe Khan. The evening also raised funds for the Prince’s campaign to build a memorial in central London to commemorate the RAF Polish pilots who helped win the Battle of Britain and
featured an exciting live auction. Phenomenal prizes included a signed t-shirt from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy (the one he wore at the beginning of the war), along with signed boxing gloves from highprofile Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Usyk up for grabs in aid of the first lady of Ukraine’s charity, the Olena Zelenska Foundation. If you want to bid on any fantastic prizes look at our Jumblebee auction page here: www.jumblebee.co.uk/ukraine2023
But back to the fashion… and if you can’t wait for your next Surrey fashion fix, famous faces will again be gracing the red carpet at our next glamorous fashion show, spinning with the latest top Surrey fashion collections and other creative designs this May! SFW23 will take place in collaboration with the inaugural Surrey Rocks ‘Best Of Surrey’ Awards at the stunning Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking on May 25th. fizz & canapés at our glittering Welcome Reception, before being treated to entertainment from artists including ‘X-Factor’ star Russell Jones, MTV’s DJ Cream, globally-renowned Tatler harpist Amie True, singer/songwriter Kayla Amor and Sav, Head of Magic, along with the very best of Surrey fashion modelled by famous faces, followed by a delectable three-course meal washed down with fine wines at the glitzy Awards ceremony.

Our cover star, the multi award-winning British singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding has come a long way since bursting on the music scene with debut album ‘Lights’ in 2010.
That album went straight to number 1 in the Album Charts, as did her second ‘Halcyon’, fourth ‘Brightest Blue’ and her latest fifth album ‘Higher Than Heaven’ has just peaked at number 1 in the UK Album Charts too. (She got a respectable third place chart position with her third album ‘Delirium’ - not bad going from a council estate girl from the ‘burbs!)
To date, Ellie has sold over 15 million albums worldwide and released 47 top ten singles. Following her April 2023 album ‘Higher Than Heaven’ and Amazon Prime featured concert, ‘Monumental : Ellie Goulding at Kew Gardens’ airing to critical acclaim, Ellie is coming to our very own Kingston-Upon-Thames on May 4th to play at Pryzm Nightclub. Tickets are on sale from £119 if you want to catch her at the Surrey Award nominated venue. The ‘Burn’ songmaker is also planning a UK and European tour later this year starting in Glasgow on October 18th stopping in Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham before hitting London on October 24th to play at the Roundhouse in Camden. Ticket prices start from only £52 too. Her concerts are supposed to be amazing and her voice “mesmerising”.
What many people don’t know about Ellie’s rise to the top is her tough upbringing. ‘Elena Jane Goulding’ was born on a council estate in Herefordshire in 1986 and admits she didn’t have the best childhood.
“We grew up in the smallest house with moth-eaten, flea-ridden furniture with holes in it handed down from my nana. But my mum had pride and we were always dressed nicely,” she says candidly and without self-pity. Her father walked out on her mum and three siblings when she was just five years old. Ellie has often spoken about her “horrible” stepdad - a tattooed lorry driver who her mother remarried.
“He wasn’t intelligent, he’d never suggest a book to read or a film to watch. There was nothing there,” she recalls. However it was this upbringing that spurned a young Ellie to do so well. She started writing a diary at eight - which she attributes to being the skill that allowed her to grow into a successful songwriter. Plus she went to Kent University to study drama, allowing her to perfect her performing abilities.
While Goulding’s voice has been likened to Bjork and Cerys Matthews, she painstakingly admits that she never thought she had a career in music.
“I was never chosen in school plays as the lead singer and my mum used to tell me to be quiet when I sung!”
Despite this her passion for music came from her mother who introduced her to bands including Bob Dylan and The Beatles when she was very young. She also took up playing the guitar because of this. Ellie’s lucky break came at the age of 18, when she performed at an open-mic talent show where she met her first manager, Jamie Lillywhite. After a tough few years playing the London gig circuit and setting up her own MySpace page, she contacted electro pop musician Frankmusik asking for help on an acoustic track she was penning. With his guidance, ‘Wish I Stayed’ racked up 100,000 plays in three months and put the then 21-year-old Ellie on the map. As a result, she got a deal with Universal Music’s established Polydor label and quit college to concentrate on her singing career.
Unlike many other pop stars, Ellie has been fairly good at keeping her romantic life out of the media. She has been linked to many pop stars including Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, Skillrex, McBusted’s Dougie Poynter and Niall from ‘One Direction’ as well as having a long-term relationship with US actor Jeremy Irvine. There was also that famous rumoured fling with Prince Harry following the Audi Polo Challenge in 2014 – although nothing has ever been confirmed!
Ellie has been happily married to art dealer Caspar Jopling since 2019, having first met him in 2016 when they were introduced by Princess Eugenie. The couple (who are very low profile) welcomed their first child Arthur Ever Winter Jopling in April 2021.
While it seems that Ellie, now 36 years old, has the world at her feet, her success has not come easily. She used to regularly suffer from bad panic attacks. “Some days I felt like I was having a heart attack and dying. I ended up in A&E a couple of times.”
Nowadays she wears a heart monitor to make sure her heart rate doesn’t run too high and has cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to keep her calm. She also regularly runs 5km a day to keep her both fit and sane.
“Sometimes I’m emotionally all over the place,” Ellie admits, “but when I’m running I keep totally focused, its what our bodies are meant to do.”
Ellie Goulding also told ES Magazine that she used to
hide parts of her face from the camera in her early career as she thought she was not pretty enough.
“At one time I was getting all this musical success but I wasn’t getting all the things that went with it, like magazine covers,” she said. “I was convinced for a long time I wasn’t aesthetically pleasing enough. I would have to angle my face to hide the side of my nose, or my chin,” she recalls.
Ellie admits that she had to force herself to let go and stop caring about what other people thought. “I put a different energy out there, then all the covers started to happen.” While Ellie is certainly not the first to suffer from the pressure of the media to look a certain way, she has been a great role model to other young women.
Notably after appearing on ‘X Factor’ in a sheer Julien Macdonald dress, Ellie was slammed on social media sites for her “fuller” body shape. She took to Twitter to share her views on the matter: “They said my body was ‘too athletic’ Too athletic?! Isn’t it admirable that someone has worked so hard to look good and healthy.”
Good on you girl!
Polo, once seen as a sport dominated by Kings and the ruling class originally dating back to 600 BC, has never enjoyed such a mass appeal as it does today. It is estimated that there are 1 billion polo fans worldwide and the sport is played in over 90 countries. The popularity of polo is buoyed on even more by the fact that the major cups and tournaments are outside in the sunshine and beautiful green grass settings of the polo fields in the Summer, where people can soak up the atmosphere, speed, thrill and adrenaline that comes with viewing a high-octane polo match.
What else is good about the polo is you don’t necessarily have to be a major sports or equestrian fan to enjoy it. The rules are simple and laid out for you, matches don’t drag on like they can do with a dull nil all football match! There are invariably always goals and each match lasts 40 minutes but is broken up into 4 units or chukkas as they are known, lasting 7 and a half minutes each. This, in comparison to other drawn out sports tournaments, makes matches short and intense.
Plus, the game is beautiful to watch. Lithe polo horses working in unison with daring polo players chasing the 110mph polo ball around the field with menacing looking mallets. If it sounds like something like a Jilly Cooper novel, it is! (Probably another reason for the increasing numbers of women spectators at the polo.)
There is also a real touch of glamour associated with the polo. It is where men and women can come and dress up, wear panama hats, sip Pimm’s and Champagne whilst watching the game. Polo’s origins as a game of King’s, has added to the glamour of events. And even today it is a game consistently played by royalty and society. Prince William and Harry are both players and fans of polo and the who’s who of celebrities are often at events. Our soon to be King Charles III is a keen player and
famously was pictured with Camilla Parker Bowles at a Windsor Great Park polo match in 1971, where the then couple who briefly dated looked very much in love. So what to wear to the polo? Well, floaty fabrics for women and crisp designer shirts are the look of the moment for polo – if you’re not sure what to wear check out our Polo Fashion Shoot for some stunning looks from in and around the best boutiques in Surrey and surrounding areas in the June Issue.
In case you’re not already a seasoned polo fan, Surrey Rocks gives you a quick lesson in what to expect while watching the polo. Each team consists of 4 players; Number 3 is the captain, who commands the team and pivots between attack and defence. Number 4 (also known as the “back”) is responsible for defence and being the goal
defender, while Numbers 1 and 2 are the attackers.
A standard polo playing field is 274 metres long by 146 metres wide. All polo players must be right handed to avoid injury. The game consists of four to eight 7 and half-minute chukkas, depending on region played. Europe has 4. There is a 5 minute interval between chukkas and a 10 minute interval between halftime, where players swap ends.
Goal posts are set at each end of the field and to score, players have to hit the ball between the goals. Interestingly, there is no height limit for the goal scored.
If the ball goes wide of the goal the defending team is allowed a free ‘knockin” from where the ball crossed the goal line, getting the ball back in play quickly.
Polo is thought to have originated in China and Persia around 2,000 years ago. The first recorded game took place in 600 BC between the Turkomans and Persians. Polo today is led by Argentina and England. Modern polo originated in Manipur, in India. The Silchar Polo Club was founded in 1859 by British military officers and tea planters, after Lieutenant Joe Sherer saw the locals playing polo and said, “We must learn the game!” From India, polo spread quickly appearing in Malta in 1868, England in 1869,
Argentina in 1872 and Australia in 1874. It reached the US after James Gordon Bennett, publisher of the New York Herald, saw his first polo game in England. Bennett returned to New York in 1876 with mallets, balls and the Hurlingham Club rules.
‘A polo handicap is a person’s ticket to the world’ – Winston Churchill said.
In England the equestrian sport of Polo has grown considerably in popularity with such events as the Cartier International at Guards Polo Club playing an important role in maximising its awareness, although it has to be said for social glamour reasons rather than for the appreciation of the sport.
Recently the sport has attracted the ‘Hello Magazine’ type readers who see celebrities attending the important polo events like the Queens Cup and suddenly it becomes part of their social rather than sporting calendar. Celebrities and the royal family are out in full
force in the summer as Audi throw their annual polo event The Polo Challenge in Ascot’s Coworth Park. The challenge starts on 27th June, with the semi-finals on July 7th and the final on July 9th.
Another popular polo event is the now wellestablished Chesterton’s Polo In The Park, designed to maximise accessibility and indeed greater awareness of this magnificent sport. This popular event with its international flavour attracts many Londoners which includes celebrities from film, television, fashion and music industry. They all gather sipping champagne at the Pommery Champagne Garden or The Mahiki Bar another spot to be seen at. Chesterton’s Polo in the Park is a unique London lifestyle event, which blends fashion, retail and gastronomy with thrilling highoctane polo, the perfect way to kick-off the summer social season. The event takes place on 9th, 10th & 11th June at Hurlingham Park, London this year.
The biggest names in high goal polo are in action at the end of July on the Queen’s
Cartier invite guests from the worlds of stage, screen, sport, society into the Cartier enclosure, welcoming them to the elegant reception serving Cartier champagne. This year the event takes place between 23rd May and 18th June.
Then you have the Gold Cup Final as the usual collection of polo lovers and fashionistas sip champagne under a boiling sun in Cowdray Park, Midhurst, West Sussex from 27th June - 23rd July.
For many, pets and property are the two P’s in life that are most important to them.
The latest research from Hepper and Petsit revealed a staggering 12 million pet sitters were used in 2021 alone. Pet healthcare website, Pet MD, backs up these figures with the statement: “Many cats and dogs feel comfortable in their own environments, so having an experienced pet sitter come by for feedings, walks and playtimes is a solid option.”
Plus another interesting stat about your cat! According to research from Cat in a Flat, 78% of cat owners pay for care for their cats while they’re away as they explain: “Pet sitting services is worth it for these owners; the professional status of pet sitters and their businesses can help owners feel more comfortable leaving their pets with them, as well as many being insured and undertaking extra voluntary training - like training in dealing with difficult behaviour.”
So when it comes to booking that all important annual vacation or (bi or triannual if you are lucky!) then the peace of mind that both your furry friend and home are being well looked after is of paramount importance.
So who do you go to when you are looking for a house and pet sitting service in Surrey, Kent and the home counties. Well husband and wife team Keith and
Lucia have been running VIPP for 8 years now and love serving the pets and families in the South of England.
“We love caring and connecting with your pets and creating everlasting relationships. We provide care for your pets as if they were our own and ensure that they receive the highest quality attention while you’re away from home,” Keith said.
“I have been using VIPP for 5 years now. I recommend them to everybody and every person I have recommended them to have had the same brilliant experiences. You book them and don’t even think about it. You just know they are going to be there (and actually half an hour early) and they are just so fantastic and give you absolute piece of mind.
We have 3 cats and 2 of them are rescue so have a habit of being panicky and nervous and somehow Keith has just won them over!
We have used them 14 times now over the past 5 years. Our home and beloved cats are so well looked after. I’d even say our home is better than when we left!! They often tidy cupboards, do laundry and once they even fixed our dishwasher! They go above and beyond and give 5 star service and complete piece of mind. They are the kindest couple and most meticulously organised too – you will have no worries at all when you book VIPP!” Amanda, Cobham resident & client.

“Thank You For Looking After Them So Well -Yet Again”
If you need to go away and can’t take your pets with you then the next best thing is to have VIPP look after them in their own surroundings so they don’t get stressed about being in a new place.
VIPP have looked after some of the most prestigious houses in Surrey and Kent while their owners are away. It makes sure that the property is occupied and everyone knows that there is someone living there.

The Garden House Restaurant, on the historical and awardwinning Beaverbrook Estate, has just launched a brand new lunchtime menu offering a selection of signature and seasonal favourites that can be paired with your choice of a starter or dessert, or why not have both? Join The Garden House, nominated in the Best Restaurant category in the Surrey Awards 2023, for this delightful dining experience; whether it’s a celebration, a business meeting or just because…..lunchtimes just got a lot more fun in Surrey!
On arrival we were greeted by the ever-friendly staff at The Garden House and asked politely whether we wanted a pre-drink
in the decadent, yet snug Robin’s Nest Bar Area or be shown to our table. We opted for a pre-drink - as one of our guests (Birthday boy & Surrey Rocks commercial director - Matt Fielder) was typically running late having got lost on the vast Beaverbrook Estate! A Beaverbrook hazard… so make sure you know where you are going exactly before you arrive. Apparently Matt had fun at the main house exploring Sir Frank’s Bar and The Japanese Grill before we absconded him back to The Garden House up the road!
When we were shown to our table we were presented with a sumptuous Garden House Set Lunch Menu with 3 delicious choices for Starter, Main & Dessert. Very hard to decide on
choices as all three options were so tantalising. After our eventual food decision making, we had a brilliant Sommelier suggest wine choices with our chosen food and we opted for a crisp Italian Gavi, and it went perfectly, not breaking the bank either at a mere £88.
For Starter we went for the ‘Warming Vegetable and Pearl Barley Broth with Grilled Sourdough’ and ‘Salad of Crispy Duck & Toasted Sesame with Pomegranate, Spring Onion and Radishes’ both were divine and the portions were very generous especially the lean succulent duck breast in the salad. The homegrown vegetables and herbs, straight from the Beaverbrook/Garden House garden in the Broth, were so fresh - we could tellespecially the Thyme and Rosemary that were overriding flavours - we definitely knew they were picked fresh that day for the chef’s special soup dish. A true accolade.
The ‘Chicken Milanese with Fried Burford Brown Egg and Creamed Spinach’ that 2 of our diners went for was amazing. The chicken was so lean and the crispy breadcrumb coating was delicious, providing a perfect crunch complimenting the softness of the creamy spinach and fried egg accompaniment.
Next up was the ‘Risotto of Aged Parmesan and Rocket’. Green and bursting with flavour, the risotto rice was cooked perfectly al dente and the parmesan flakes made the dish pack a punch. This is when Vegan does not have to be boring! Well done Beaverbrook and beautifully presented with edible purple flowers and sprigs of rocket. We will definitely be back to try the ‘Devonshire Mussels & Grilled Focaccia’ and the ‘Winter Vegetable Bourgulgon with Golden Beets, Puy Lentils and Cobnuts’ the starter and main we did not get to try - this time.
As it was Matt’s birthday we were gifted (totally by surprise may we add) a delicious Happy Birthday white chocolate chalk slate platter. The platter consisted of dark chocolate brownies, seasonal fruit and signed ‘Happy Birthday’ in white chocolate dusted in icing sugar. Delicious and very much appreciated.
Matt was over the moon, as our picture suggests!
Although definitely verging on the full side, we went for the ‘Warm Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich, and Salted Caramel Ice Cream’ on suggestion of Clara our waitress for our dessert option included in the Set Menu. It was served beautifully with a fruit garnish and although the dessert was rich, the ice-cream and fruit offset - so there was not too much sweetness to the dish. Next up was the ‘Frozen Berries with White Chocolate Sauce & Raspberry Ripple’ and what a delight it was. Once the berries were covered with the white chocolate sauce, the defrosting process ensued so at the start of the first mouthful, the berries were crisp and sharp… simply wonderful. Equally by the bite of the last gradually unfrozen berry the softness was marvellous. A taste experiment that definitely worked.
All in all a 10/10 experience - we can’t wait to go back and taste the other wonderful delights of The Garden Housefresh and fantastic. The Garden House’s new set lunch menu with two courses for £35 per person and three courses for £40 per person, is available from 12pm to 2:45 pm, Monday to Thursday.
As a sensitive skin sufferer – I know full well how difficult it is to have the perfect skin. As some of you may know I have been on quite a skin journey. When Amber from Elira Skin reached out to me to see if we could work together, I was intrigued by her forwardthinking approach to skincare.
Amber’s background for all things skin started when she dealt with hormonal acne as an adult. She started her healing process using a

holistic approach, treating her body from the inside out and trained to be a skin practitioner. Amber specialises in lymphatic and sculptural massage. She is a true believer in working on not just the surface of the skin but also the lymphatic, fascia and muscles alongside nutrition and stress management. Amber’s belief is that connecting mind and body is very important.
The reason why her sculptural facial massage treatments are so popular is because they offer natural face lift approaches to sculpt and define facial features but also release all the tension that is built up over time in our muscles, leaving you feeling physically and mentally uplifted. I saw first-hand how incredible her results were after just one session. The consultation was extremely thorough, we had a chat through all things skin and I was really impressed with Amber’s knowledge. The treatment itself was so relaxing I honestly did not want it to end. It started with a cleanse, steam and extraction, followed by an extensive facial massage. During the facial massage Amber worked on my Buccal muscle. This technique has been around for a while but is currently trending
on social media and has become popular again. It involved using her thumb and fingers to massage the inside of my cheeks… yes she was wearing gloves! It can be beneficial to those wanting to decrease puffiness and help reduce tension around the jaw area. I actually found this a little tender but not uncomfortable. Turns out I had some tension in this area, probably from all the talking I do! The before and after photo blew my mind, I couldn’t believe how puffy my face was before! If you book in a treatment and mention my name you will get £10 off your treatment (thank me later).
We do however have to be realistic of what we can achieve and how our skin looks in day to day life. With the obsession of social media, we have been fixated on looking perfect and hiding our flaws with filters. Research on filters and mental health reveals that filtering actually depletes self-esteem and distorts body image. I recently decided not to use filters anymore when showing my face on my stories as it gives me and others unrealistic expectations of what skin should look like. It’s ok to have pores, it’s ok to have blemishes, this is normal!
I love the ethos of Huda Kattan, founder of makeup brand Huda Beauty, which was valued by Forbes at over £800 million in 2018. I adore her brand and this for me is amplified by the fact that she comes across as a genuinely nice person. She verified this for me when I met her a couple of years ago in Dubai. She was so warm and friendly, she took the time to chat with me and gave me such a tight squeeze when she hugged
me goodbye. She uses her platform to raise awareness about the danger of using filters and how it is setting unrealistic standards. She states that a third of young girls and women refuse to post pictures of themselves unless they have been edited with filters. Huda has decided to lead by example and has personally committed to not using any filters on her skincare social media account. I absolutely love this idea and wish more skincare brands would do this. It would help to break the habit of overthinking how our skin looks in pictures and move towards self-acceptance. Is it time to stop using filters? I think so.

Ihave just finished the 4-day event at Henley Décor from 13th to 16th April - I absolutely love this fair and cannot recommend it enough. It has everything to inspire vintage and antique lovers and brings out the interior designer in us all.
From decorative antiques to art, to architectural salvage and reclaimed items for the home and garden, it really does have a wide variety of treasures. There are over 180 stalls at Henley now! The festival atmosphere with the live music, bar, vintage tearoom and gastro food stalls, set in the most beautiful surroundings make it an event not to be missed.
In addition to all of this, Henley holds a special place in my heart, as it is where my husband proposed, so I suspect it is an event that I will always do!
I have discovered a treasure trove of antiques and collectables here that I am excited to share with you. I am also so pleased to meet antique lovers, antique dealers and search for new finds for my wonderful clients here.
I got my husband at Henley and so many other great finds…. not sure which one was the best yet!
Antiques are in my blood! My antique dealer grandparents dragged me round antique fairs every weekend, and a passion and respect for beautiful things seeped into my veins. Wherever I find myself, I’m drawn to what’s out of the ordinary - intriguing pieces that have enjoyed a past life and are ready to be loved by someone else.
I’ve always had an eye for rearranging furniture to create new offbeat looks, happily pairing a quirky 1950’s Italian genie bottle with a Victorian desk and a retro telephone for that eclectic feel.
I have often found that friends who have inherited antique items but with no idea how to use them in their homes have come to me for advice on how to make their antiques
look cool, blending them into their interiors alongside more trendy, modern pieces.
When my passion for old furniture and vintage objets d’art grew out of control (my husband had to ban me from bringing any more pieces into our house!) I decided to channel it into a business, which has evolved into Rock The Heirloom.
I also run my own Rock The Heirloom pop ups as well as my Showroom in Chobham by appointment only - please sign up to my newsletter to receive information on these events and more at www.rocktheheirloom.co.uk

21 MAR – 20 APR
You seem to have disconnected from your intuition, Aries. Your mind and body are telling you to do one thing, but for some reason you haven’t been able to listen to them. Take time this month to reconnect with your soul. Furthermore, you have been taking a private walk down memory lane lately, and this is likely to continue in May. Romantically, you haven’t been getting the attention you want, which is why you haven’t shared these memories with many people. You may also be feeling like others might judge you if you tell them about the old memories you are revisiting. Finally, a disruption in your family life is likely to create tension in many people. This month will have its ups and downs but will ultimately lead you in the right direction.
21 APR – 20 MAY
Your charming nature is going to get you far, Taurus! People are naturally drawn to you, as you have the ability to get anyone on your side. Use this skill to your advantage in your personal and professional life. Your femininity is coming through strong in May, showcasing your soft side. Whether you’re male or female, using your femininity is a great strength that will allow you to let others see that you have more than one side to your personality. Sometimes a softer touch is the way to go. Lastly, your curiosity is going to lead you to brand new experiences you never thought possible in May. You’re not the type to be content with what you’ve got, and you love exploring new possibilities. This personality trait is going to serve you well.
22 MAY – 21 JUNE
Your impulsive nature is your greatest strength and weakness, Gemini. Being impulsive allows you to reach for the stars and go after what you heart desires, however, it also means you make drastic decisions that you maybe haven’t thought all the way through. Try and strike a balance, as this is a trait you should hold on to. Furthermore, this month is the perfect time to reconcile with someone you have had difficulties with. You don’t have to forget what they have done, but it may be in both of your best interests to find common ground and be civil with each other. Forgiveness will set you free. May is going to be a harmonious month for you, full of love and light. You will see many patterns showing up time and time again.
22 JUNE – 23 JULY
Spiritually you have incredible wisdom, Cancerian. You know that life isn’t always black and white, and that sometimes you have to live in the grey. Take this knowledge with you on your journey. An emerging idea is coming to the forefront of your mind and is going to lead to an exciting new opportunity. You are a creative person and are very good at starting new projects. However, keep in mind that following through with them is equally as important. Finally, you are also prone to worrying quite a lot, which can affect your day-to-day life. Take each day as it comes and only worry if something bad does happen. Chances are, everything will work out absolutely fine. With the Full Moon in Scorpio this month, embrace the mysteries of life.
24 JULY – 23 AUG
Self-development is the area you need to focus on the most, Leo. May is going to be a month where you learn your strengths and weaknesses, and how to make the most of them. You have taken some wrong turns, but this is all going to come to an end once you understand who you are and what you want. There has been some obvious tension in your life lately with people you thought were your friends. All relationships have ups and downs, it’s up to you to see whether getting everything out into the open will help or hinder the friendship. Only you can make this decision. Finally, a trait that is important you work on is your flexibility. You can’t always control everything that happens, so remember to let life guide you from time to time.
24 AUG – SEPT 3
Have you been juggling too many responsibilities, Virgo? You know that you can handle an unlimited number of problems, but only if you manage your time, resources, and energy well. The ups and downs in your life are manageable, but you must focus and pay attention to what’s going on. Certain people aren’t aligning with your own personal values and beliefs. You are the main character of your story, so don’t let anyone push you around. If your energy is being drained by someone, it may be time to let go of them. Lastly, security is greatly important to you. This month, do what you can to guarantee safety and financial security in your life. You’ll thank yourself for it in the future.
24 SEPT – 23 OCT
Have you given yourself the chance to release your worries, Libra? This month is going to be all about letting go of the negative energy surrounding you. There is no point in worrying about something that you know may not even happen. On a more positive note, a wish that you have been wanting to come true is going to show itself in the coming weeks. Something amazing is about to happen, so believe that you are worthy of it. All your manifestation is going to pay off! Finally, new invitations and opportunities are coming to you, but for now you are saying ‘no’. These may not be the right things for you, or you might already have too much on your plate. Use your intuition to decide what’s right for you.
24 OCT – 22 NOV
The world is your oyster, Scorpio! You have an enormous amount of potential within you, and many horizons you are going to explore. While you are contemplating significant opportunities, you have not yet left your comfort zone to pursue them; you are still in your planning phase. Furthermore, even in the face of adversity, you stand tall and strong. You may be feeling exhausted, but you are persistent, resilient, and ready to do what it takes to get to the finish line. No one can ever call you weak. However, remember that it’s okay to surrender when your body’s had enough. Fighting will only get you so far. Make sure to strike the balance. Astrologically, with your ruling planet Pluto in Aquarius right now, don’t be afraid to unleash your quirky side.
23 NOV – 21 DEC
It seems you may be going through an upheaval at the moment, during which you have little stability and security. You are experiencing multiple changes in your life, such as changing jobs, leaving a relationship or moving house. Even though you know this is an important transition, it can be unsettling and make you feel unsure about your future. The best way to get through this is to get rid of any self-doubt. Be confident in your decisions, and trust that you know best. Stand tall and be proud of who you are. Finally, a big theme in May will be your generosity and the influence you have on others. People rely on you for kindness and support. Choose wisely and give yourself fully to those who deserve your love.
22 DEC – 20 JAN
Fear is playing a big part in your life, Capricorn. You fear many things, but often find yourself catastrophising simple thoughts. Only let yourself get scared when something bad does happen, otherwise you are wasting energy that can be put to better use. There is disharmony going on in your mind, which may be why this fear is being highlighted. Your mind and body aren’t connecting with each other. Listen to what your body is trying to tell you and act accordingly. Finally, a frustrating delay is stopping you from completing a project. You are missing an essential piece, and it’s unlikely you’ll get closure until you find it. Using your creativity will get you to the finish line.
By Pia LouisaAre you getting sustainable results, Aquarius? You are working on a project that is out of your comfort zone and has left you wondering what happens next. Take a step back and look at it objectively, then you’ll be able to see what the future will look like. The good thing about this, is that since you are someone who gets bored easily, working on something you are unsure about is keeping life interesting. Sitting around doing nothing is your worst nightmare! Keep going and don’t stop until you are intellectually fulfilled. Finally, a past situation where people thought you had fallen from grace is going to work itself out this month. People are going to see you for who you are, and not for what others have been saying.
20
Are you ready for your rite of passage, Pisces? Something you have been expecting for a long time is going to present itself in May. This may not be easy, but it is something you know you must do. As a very caring person, looking after others in need will be a high priority for you this month. Being kind and generous isn’t hard work to you, as you are a natural caregiver. Be there for someone who is struggling and show they just how much you care about them. Finally, confusion surrounding a relationship in your life is going to be resolved sooner rather than later. If someone has left you wondering where you stand, make the first move and be straight with them.

Stallholders have been hand-picked for their quality and beautiful collections, with a focus on local businesses and variety for the shopper. Each month will see a different retail mix,so regulars will have plenty of temptation in their path! Regulars include gifts, homewares, fashion, jewellery, candles and sweet treats.

WHAT MADE YOU GO INTO COMEDY?
I always wanted to do stand up, I just got too nervous. I was actually only 31 when I first started. Typically, I was about to go to my first stand up gig then the pandemic hit. So I just started uploading videos to my Tik Tok and it was a happy accident really.
YOUR TIK TOK (425K) & INSTAGRAM (191K) FOLLOWING ARE HUGE NOW, HOW WAS IT FORGING A CAREER ONLINE FIRST?
It was probably the best thing that ever happened to me as I got to overcome my nerves and grow in confidence.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ON THE STAND UP COMEDY SCENE?
Coming up to 2 years now.
WHAT’S THE BIGGEST VENUE YOU HAVE PLAYED SO FAR?
The Camelia in Brighton.
WHAT COMEDIANS INSPIRE YOU?
Micky Flanagan and the late Sean Lock was a legend.
YOU WERE A CARPET FITTER FOR MOST OF YOUR ADULT LIFE. DID YOU GET RIBBED FOR GOING INTO COMEDY BY YOUR
Meet comedian Jack Skipper, the host of Epsom Social’s new Late Night Comedy Night, which is running once a month and bringing the best of comedy to Surrey. We had the pleasure of catching up with the 34-yearold funnyman and former carpet fitter (No 14 in Croydon according to Check A Trade) who has now moved to Epsom and made Comedy his full-time profession. Check him and his fellow comedian friends out on May 21st at Epsom Social, the only place to Eat. Drink. Chill. And now Laugh.
WORKMATES?
Yeah, I was always quite embarrassed about telling people that I wanted to be a comedian. When you work on building sites they take the piss out of you for anything. “So you think you are funny enough to stand on stage?” i’d get. You really do get the piss ripped out of you!
HOW DID YOU JUGGLE YOUR DAY JOB AS A CARPET FITTER AND YOUR EVENING WORK AS A COMEDIAN WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED OUT?
It was hard. I was up at 6am and doing a full days work then going straight onto comedy gigs in the evening till midnight/1am…only to get up and go to work at 6am again… back in the van!
ARE YOU MISSING THE CARPET FITTING?!
Not at all. Hated it!
WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING CROYDON’S 14TH BEST CARPET FITTER?!! (ONE OF JACK’S SKETCHES)
It was alright. One of my greatest achievements to be honest. Got myself a little plaque!
HOW MANY CARPET FITTERS ARE THERE IN CROYDON?
15 Probably.
YOU RECENTLY MADE THE SUN NEWSPAPER WITH A SKETCH ABOUT 4 TYPES OF PEOPLE ON THE SCHOOL RUN, WHAT TYPE ARE YOU?
Did I, really?
YES, DATED 23RD APRIL ‘TIK TOK JACK SKIPPER GOES VIRAL’
Wow really, amazing!! Definitely the last one on my sketch – the hungover Dad!
YOU ARE PROBABLY ONE OF SURREY’S MOST FAMOUS COMEDIANS, DO YOU GET SPOTTED A LOT?
I do. Yeah, yeah…. but I have got a massive ego… so it’s fine!
HOW DO YOU COPE WITH IT?
Love it. I try and stop and chat. I remember what it was like recognising someone and being embarrassed to stop them as a kid.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST THING ABOUT BEING A SURREY CELEB?
The best is meeting new people and chatting. The worst is when you know you look like a bag of shit and you’ve been spotted!
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR NEW COMEDY SHOW AT EPSOM SOCIAL?
Well it’s great, love giving back to the community. Also as I get to pick all the comedians it’s like a Fantasy Football League where you’re picking your best team. Brilliant.
IF YOU HAD TO TAKE THREE THINGS TO A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?
I’d take my kids, something to entertain the kids and then something to entertain me. Crate of beer. Or Sienna Miller maybe.
IF YOU COULD PERPETUATE A MYTH ABOUT YOUSELF WHAT WOULD IT BE?
That I am Croydon’s 13th best carpet fitter.
WHO WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL CELEBRITY DINNER PARTY GUESTS?
Micky Flanagan, Sean Lock, Andy Peters (don’t know why) and Sienna Miller.
MOST EMBARRASSING ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE?
My wigs that I use for Tik Toks. That’s embarrassing – a man with a collection of wigs.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?
A Comedian. Never admitted it at the time.
BEST CHARACTER TRAITS?
I am actually very caring and have a sensitive soul.
DO YOU HAVE ANY BAD HABITS?
Yeah whenever I do the washing up I always leave the knives and forks. I can never be bothered with knives and forks….. nice big plates they are so much easier.
A cheese grater? Nah, leave that.
A GARLIC PRESS? No chance!!
FRIDAY NIGHT OUT OR SUNDAY DAY IN?
Sunday day in chilling.
