Russell Brand has been accused of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse for acts allegedly occurring between
“Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute,” Russell said, admitting that era was a "time of promiscuity” for him, but maintained that the acts were "always consensual".
Brand’s ex-wife Katy Perry, who was married to the former ‘Big Brother’s Big Mouth’ presenter in 2010 for 14 months, previously alluded to “keeping his truth - which she would keep locked in her safe 'for a rainy day'” during a 2013 interview with Vogue, which has recently resurfaced. Perry, who is engaged to actor Orlando Bloom, has yet to publicly comment on the allegations against Brand.
The case has been unsolved since it occurred 27 years ago, however this might be the big break police have been waiting for. Davis has reportedly been on the investigators' radar for a while now. In 2019, he wrote a memoir titled ‘Compton Street Legend’, in which he admitted that he was in the Cadillac that Tupac's shooter was in. On September 7, 1996, Tupac aged only 25-years-old was in a car that was driven by Marion Knight, the founder of Death Row
Actor and politician Laurence Fox has been sacked from GB News over his misogynistic comments about Surrey-born girl, Ava Evans, who is a junior on the Jeremy Vine show, Joe Politics.
In his foul-mouthed tirade against the younger journalist on 26th September, Laurence said “Who would want to s**g that?” - his comments sparking widespread condemnation. Following the backlash, Laurence has been suspended from GB News and a number of presenters on the channel have spoken out to renounce him as well as celebs Sharon Osbourne and former PM Gordon Brown.
Fox, 45, has credits in films that include 2001 ‘Gosford Park’, 2007 TV movie ‘A Room With A View’ and the 2022 film ‘My Son Hunter’, in which he plays the lead role of Hunter, the son of US president Joe Biden. Born into an acting dynasty, Laurence Fox is related to a slew of famous thespians, including his cousin Freddie Fox, who starred in the Netflix series ‘The Crown’.
As the day drew to a close, Laurence returned to X - to reiterate his views – with no signs of an apology in sight, writing: “I’ve made many millions over the years and I gave them up to fight a battle I didn’t want to fight. So if you think that some half baked pile on is going to stop me. Think again. I am truly free.”
Laurence was not the only casualty of his actions, however, as presenter Dan Wootton was also suspended from the network pending investigation.
Wootton could be seen smiling and laughing whilst Fox was speaking, interjecting with "a touch of balance" to say Evans regretted her comments and called her a "very beautiful woman". Ofcom announced they would be investigating GB News after the show received 7,300 complaints.
Fox finally apologised on Thursday 28th September for his remarks, saying he was "sorry for demeaning Evans". It probably won’t be enough to save his job or new political career though.
Singer Kelly Rowland was heading off to the Messika Haute Joaillerie show during Paris Fashion Week when she suffered an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction, exposing her left nipple to staggered onlookers. The former Destiny’s Child singer put on a busty display in a slinky brown dress and showed more than she intended to on Thursday 28th September. Quickly pulling up the dress it was already too late as guests and paparrazzi caught the rogue nipple sighting!
Bruce Willis’ wife Emma has made an emotional outpoor in a recent interview declaring her actor husband’s dementia diagnosis is affecting the family.
Emma, 45, who shares daughters Mabel and Evelyn with the ‘Die Hard’ actor - has admitted it is "hard to know" if her husband is aware of his dementia, saying: "What I'm learning is that dementia is hard. It's hard on the person diagnosed. It's also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce or myself or our girls. And when they say that this is a 'family disease,' it really is."
Bruce, 68, was diagnosed with dementia in 2022 and has stepped away from his successful acting career.
NOW
Now gents, if Ken aka Ryan Gosling from the latest ‘Barbie’ flick isn’t so much your style in pastel pinks and blues like MGK and Megan Fox, turn to Cillian Murphy or Robert Downey Jr. for their simplistic, yet classy wardrobes from their roles in ‘Oppenheimer’.
Matt Damon’s role as General Leslie Groves is another fab option bringing a more militant vibe to the party.
If you want to go all out scary, opt for a classic outfit like Freddy Krugar from ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ available on sale at Amazon for only £29. This costume comes with a tattered sweater, printed with burn marks, claws and mask. Throw on an old brim hat to finish the look.
A great look that always goes down a treat with the ladies is a classic ‘Top Gun’ boiler suit with aviator sunglasses. You will look good in uniform, as is the case with all men (!), and it can be worn again for painting/decorating! You can get the men’s military green overalls for only £22 on Amazon at the moment. Sew on a few patches from any good army store and you are good to go.
If you want to turn up the ‘wow’ factor opt for a funny costume like a Minion or Buzz Lightyear fancy dress costume – look stupid at a party and be the crack of the jokes. Why not? It’s only one day a year.
The hit series ‘Wednesday’ flew to number 1 on Netflix after Halloween last year, 2023 is the year to make these costumes come to life. With traditional characters Uncle Fester, Gomez or series characters such as Enid the Werewolf there’s so much to be done with this gothic genre this Halloween. Elsewhere you can take a leaf out of Justin Timberlake’s book and go for a ‘Home Alone’ inspired costume. So easy to recreate at home… you just need old clothes, a red marker
(for the iron print) and your buddy or girlfriend needs a wool hat, glue and feathers. Simple yet mightily effective. One of our team won ‘Best Dressed’ with this look at a Halloween Party and the whole ensemble cost only £3.50!
Hummings in Esher and Hotel Bosco in Surbiton are offering £100 prize for the Best Dressed this Halloween. That’s a profit of £96.50 if you go as the thieves from ‘Home Alone’.
Look glamourous this Halloween with our indispensable costume guide.
The live action film ‘The Little Mermaid’ has brought Ariel back as a hot costume idea this year. We have found this great replica from Amazon for £40 or you can buy scallop shells and turquoise fabric and make your own at home a la Kylie Jenner.
With the new ‘Snow White’ also in the making, Disney princesses are always classy and creative. Celebs such as Kim K, Gwen Stefani and Rita Ora have rocked this look before, now it’s your turn.
With ‘Barbiecore’ taking the world by storm, raking in over $1 billion at the Box Office, pink fashion is a good way to go this Halloween. It is well known that the Mattel doll has had every job under the sun, so use your artistic license with your costume this year! It is yours to personalise, anything from Rollergirl Barbie to Disco Barbie to Western Barbie would work a treat. Or we love Rebel Wilson’s ‘Barbie in a Box’ outfit that can be made using painted cardboard or snapped up from Amazon for £35 this month.
If you hit up online boutiques such as ASOS, Boohoo and Pretty Little Thing there’s a wide range of Halloween costumes to buy this October. This 3-piece sexy bat costume from PLT costs £60 and you can get 25% off if you’re a new customer with code: Newbie25.
Elsewhere for more casual Halloween glamour we love this Boohoo knitted skeleton dress jumper, a snip at only £20. The hit US series ‘Wednesday’ flew to number 1 on Netflix just after Halloween. With traditional characters Wednesday, mother Morticia or Bianca the Siren there’s so much to be done with this gothic genre this Halloween – and it’s really easy to
replicate at home.
If you want a really easy go to Halloween outfit pick a white dress you’ve been dying to take out of the wardrobe for a while, add fangs for £1 from Poundland and ghoulish bite marks on the neck and go as ‘Bride of Dracula’ like Molly Simms pictured here. Easy peasy. Happy witching hour!

Simple to make, this Lamb Souvlaki, is full of flavour, the lemon marinade gives the lamb a light, refreshing taste that will leave your taste buds wanting more. BBC Good Food reviewers gave it a 5 star rating so you can guarantee it’s a mouth-watering dish that will make you the hostess with the mostest.
INGREDIENTS
• 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
• 2 tsp sea salt
• 4 tbsp olive oil
• Zest and juice of 1 lemon
• 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh dill
• 700g lean lamb such as neck fillet or boneless leg, trimmed, then cut into large chunks
• Pitta bread or flatbread, to serve
1. Pound the garlic with sea salt in a pestle and mortar (or use a small food processor), until the garlic forms a paste.
2. Whisk together the oil, lemon juice, zest, dill and garlic. Mix in the lamb and combine well.
3. Cover and marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight in the fridge. If you’re going to use bamboo skewers, soak them in cold water.
4. If you’ve prepared the lamb the previous day, take it out of the fridge 30 minutes before cooking. Thread the meat onto the soaked or metal skewers. Heat the grill to high or
have a hot griddle pan or barbecue ready.
5. Cook the skewers for 2-3 minutes on each side, basting with the remaining marinade.
6. Heat the pitta or flatbreads briefly, then stuff with the Souvlaki. Add Greek salad and Tzatziki, if you like.
You may think this is a simple task. Red wine goes with lamb, right? Not necessarily. Matching your wine to your lamb completely depends on the flavours used, which in this case, it’s a lemon, oil and thyme marinade.
Due to the lemon flavourings, look for wines that are less fruity and with more acidity. If you’re more in favour of a red then have a look at Italian reds such as Chianti and Barbera. Both wines are very rustic and dry. They have a smell and taste of cherries and are high in acidity.
Fancy white? Then stick with the Greek and go for a crisp wine like Assyrtiko. Why not go all out and have a Greek themed dinner party? Accompany your souvlaki with pitta, dips, wines and a baklava for dessert.
The new, highly anticipated Joker 2 film ‘Joker : Folie a Deux’ will be hitting our screens on October 4th. Starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, the film is already being billed as the cinematic hit of next year.
It’s been a 4-year hiatus since the first ‘Joker’ in 2019, which won Phoenix an Oscar for ‘Best Actor’, so naturally there are big expectations with the second instalment.
Directed by ‘The Hangover’s’ Todd Phillips and produced by ‘Silver Lining Playbooks’ Bradley Cooper this time it is no surprise, with such a stellar team behind the film including Warner Bros. and DC Comics, that this is the film to watch this year.
What is a surprise, however, is how much attention is being lavished on the costume department. The Joker played by Phoenix was papped behind the scenes in Gotham City wearing a grungy, brown suit- tipped to be the fashion item of the year. While brown is not usually a popular colour, with homages to grandads everywhere, the effortlessly cool Phoenix pulls this off with panache.
If the hype is to be believed, this will be another major hit, with comedy, horror, dramatics and fashion playing an equal role in its success – ‘Joker : Folie a Deux’ is set to be another Academy Award winner in 2024 and a major hit at the Box Office.
Rachael Sage, the singersongwriter, poet, arranger, and producer, is back with her latest work of art, ‘The Other Side’ - her 15th studio album. With fifteen tracks of emotionally charged and intricately woven music that recalls the classic, retro-warmth of the ’70s and ’80s, Sage’s latest album is one of the most grounded and stunning of her illustrious career.
Produced by Sage alongside engineers Mikhail Pivovarov and Grammy winner Andy Zulla, the album seamlessly blends a myriad of genres and instruments into a cohesive and captivating whole. A 6x Independent Music Award winner and John Lennon Songwriting Grand Prize recipient, Sage has played thousands of shows around the globe and shared stages with artists as diverse as Judy Collins, Eric Burdon and Imelda May - with whom she toured the UK. Sage has earned a loyal following for her dynamic piano playing, delicate guitar work, and improvisational audience interaction. She is also a visual artist and former ballet dancer who performed with the New York City Ballet, and a philanthropic advocate who has raised money for a wide range of causes. We are loving this new album in the Rocks office.
The debut of Number 1 New York Times bestselling author Kerri Maniscalco, ‘Throne of the Fallen’ is a seductive, standalone novel set within her fan-favorite Kingdom of the Wicked world, perfect for readers of fantasy, romance and mystery alike.
These are wicked names the Prince of Envy welcomes. They remind him what he isn’t: a saint. And when a cryptic note arrives, signaling the beginning of a deadly game, he knows he’ll be called much worse before it ends. Riddles, hexed objects, anonymous players, nothing will stand in his way. With a powerful artifact and his own future at stake, Envy is determined to win, though none of his meticulous plans prepare him for her, the frustrating artist who ignites his sin like no other. The trouble with scoundrels and blackguards is that they haven’t a modicum of honour, a fact Miss Camilla Antonius learns after one desperate mistake allows notorious rake, and satire sheet legend, Lord Phillip Vexley to blackmail her. To avoid Vexley’s clutches and a ruinous scandal, Camilla is forced to enter a devil’s bargain with Waverly Green’s newest arrival, enigmatic Lord Ashford ‘Syn’ Synton, little expecting his game will awaken her true nature.
Together, Envy and Camilla must embark on a perilous journey through the Shifting Isles, while trying to avoid the most dangerous trap of all: falling in love.

Our celebrity cover journalist and Surrey Fashion Week co-founder Angela Sara West is not only busy chatting with the stars, including sensational supermodel Elle Macpherson (who graced our September cover), but is also campaigning with celebs for good causes, including ‘planet saviour’ Think Ocean, for whom she is finding famous faces to become patrons and ambassadors.
Angela reveals plans for her new ‘passion mission’ – a year-long high street rejuvenation project in partnership with Think Ocean, Surrey Fashion Week, Carshalton’s Calladoodles store, Carshalton Artists, Surrey-based Great British Events and, of course, Surrey Rocks magazine.
Born and bred in Surrey’s beautiful village of Carshalton, I’m beyond proud to be following in my parents’ footsteps by embarking on a unique creative campaign to help my historic hometown. What’s more, with Surrey Rocks readers’ help, my innovative ‘Carshalton Rocks!’ campaign concept could consequently lead to a huge boost for ALL of our county’s ailing high streets!
This true ‘passion mission’ will see my Surrey Fashion Week celebrity charity catwalk show come to Carshalton this Christmas in aid of Think Ocean @ thinkoceanearth with whom I recently started closely working on their ‘Be The Tide’ campaign to spread awareness of the importance of sustainability on both land and at sea, with everyone encouraged to play a little part in helping to save our precious planet.
Our #CarshaltonRocks campaign will also see a series of exciting events and pioneering projects in the village, including a Valentine’s Ball and River Wandle plastics clean-ups, throughout 2024.
Aiming to bring more footfall to this small and struggling Surrey high street that is so close to my heart, these motivating initiatives are coupled with my call for household names to assist with my allnew campaign and hop on board to help my muchloved home village’s high street. From ‘retail king’, former ‘Dragon’ and past Carshalton resident Theo Paphitis and Holly Tucker MBE (Surrey-based founder of notonthehighstreet and Holly & Co and the UK Ambassador to Creative Small Businesses), to ‘The Repair Shop’ presenter Jay Blades, ‘Great British Sewing Bee’ judge Patrick Grant and George Clarke’s ‘Amazing Spaces’ sidekick and ‘Tool Club’ presenter, upcycling genius Max McMurdo, I’m calling on famous faces I’ve interviewed over the years to assist with my year-long #CarshaltonRocks campaign.
Launched by Surrey’s very own Pussycat Doll, Kimberly Wyatt, and her international model husband, Max Rogers (who is also a ‘Britain’s Next Top Model’ judge) during London Fashion Week in 2021, I am delighted to announce that Surrey Fashion Week
(SFW) – which I co-founded as a unique concept show full of fashion showcased by famous faces, along with music and entertainment, all fundraising for various charities and shining a spotlight on Surrey’s struggling fashion boutiques - is SO successful that the brand is expanding and will now see several annual events in collaboration with Surrey Rocks magazine. And Epsom Social will host our second SFW23 on the last weekend of November (24-25th Nov) followed by the first weekend of December seeing our THIRD SFW this year ROCKING CARSHALTON! A few of our spring 2023 SFW models, performers and VIP guests – including celeb chef
Jameson Stocks and multi-award-winning author/film producer Donia Youssef (who are both having Hollywood movies made about their fascinating lives), along with ‘X-Factor’ star Russell Jones and Surrey-based Miss Great Britain finalist Danielle Baron - are among those already signed up for our next SFW and also as ambassadors for Think Ocean. To top it all off, Think Ocean’s first fantastic fashion collection created from ocean-recovered plastics will make its debut at our celebrity charity Christmas catwalk show. I am also working on a Think Ocean documentary film featuring famous faces, which will be shown on big screens at our Carshalton Rocks! events and also screened in all UK cinemas soon.
My hard-working friend, Clare White, is manager of amazing multi-award-winning card & gift shop Calladoodles, a community-loving independent concept store on Carshalton High Street, whose customers include Channel 4’s ‘A Place in the Sun’ presenter Jasmine Harman and whose renowned clients include local artist John Stillman.
A veritable Aladdin’s cave of unique cards, fashion, jewellery decorations and gifts galore for your home,
family and friends, Clare also now stocks Think Ocean’s gorgeous jewellery pieces and other products created from plastic waste that they have recovered from our seas and then cleverly recycled. The store serves as a launchpad for designers, makers and artists, and sources ethically made products as much as possible - and is proud to be the Carshalton shop spearheading our revolutionary #CarshaltonRocks campaign.
In fact, Carshalton is something of an ‘eco village’, with community-run charity EcoLocal based in the tranquil natural setting of the Ecology Centre grounds next to Carshalton Ponds, in the heart of the local Heritage & Conservation Area. Aiming to achieve strong, vibrant communities in a healthy environment, EcoLocal also runs an annual Frost Fair on the first weekend of December.
Another of Calladoodles’ incredible artists is Helena Vaughan, whose popular travel prints of Carshalton - and several other Surrey towns and villages - can often be seen gracing Calladoodles’ colourful, eye-catching window displays. Helena and her artist husband co-founded the vibrant Carshalton Artists community and is also assisting with our ‘Save The High Street’ campaign.
Bursting with shops, societies, curiosities, landmarks, parks, pubs and clubs, Carshalton’s village centre is also home to the CryerArts Centre, boasting a thriving arts and music scene. This buzzing community hub on the high street houses an auditorium and dance studio, along with the Spotlight bar and restaurant and an outdoor marquee. Not forgetting the historic Honeywood Museum, highlighting Carshalton’s fascinating past adjacent to this idyllic spot’s striking ponds, boasting a beautiful Leoni Bridge and spectacularly overlooked by the historic All Saints’ church.
Clare and her neighbouring retailers always look forward to the run-up to Christmas, when Carshalton comes alive as locals head to the shops to purchase festive food and presents. But come the New Year, footfall decreases drastically, not picking up until the following Christmas period, and many of Carshalton’s retailers are, reluctantly, now considering closing their doors in 2024.
Serving the local community and beyond with all their card and gifting needs for nearly 15 years, creative Clare says sales have, sadly, suffered a dramatic decline over the years. And despite Carshalton’s eclectic mix of high street traders - which also include delectable Dotty’s Teahouse and cracking new wine bar Corks N Keg – collaborating on innovative initiative-after-initiative in the pretty little village, their retail establishments have only seen short-term
returns. The picturesque shopping spot is simply not seen as a go-to ‘destination’, it seems...
My parents have both served our wonderful village for decades as past Presidents of Carshalton Rotary and the Inner Wheel Club, and I feel compelled to do whatever I can to help Clare and her fellow retail neighbours to keep our coveted high street alive and kicking.
A sign of the times, for sure… and with many a UK high street struggling, I aim to join forces with A-list retail experts and other famous faces to breathe life back into as many Surrey high streets as we can, beginning with my beloved birthplace.
Oozing a rich history and heritage and known for its springs and fragrant lavender fields, Carshalton boasts many a claim to fame. Famous past residents include Sir Cliff Richard, who attended a local school, superstar DJ Carl Cox, aptly named cricketer Roger Bowles, most members of the band Mud and Hollywood legend Oliver Reed, who once owned The Orangery, an opulent building situated opposite the old library in The Square.
The Cure staged one of their very first gigs in the Victorian park here, which boasts a Georgian grotto, while the grand opening of Westcroft Leisure Centre, located just off the high street, saw a sensational ‘Strictly’ dance competition with the BBC’s flagship show’s stars Ian Waite and Kristina Rihanoff kicking off proceedings in true Strictly style. Close to the station, multi-award-winning The Hope is officially one of the best four pubs in the country. As a small child, I remember linking hands with my junior school peers around the tallest London Plane tree in Britain just a stone throw’s away, located in the park on the banks of the River Wandle, while my passion for writing blossomed exponentially after winning a book-writing competition at Carshalton Library at the tender age of ten. Before attending the Adventure pre-school in the picturesque Grove Park here, my son Harry witnessed the Olympic Torch being carried through the village just a month after his birth in 2012.
What’s more, Carshalton boasts one of the largest charity fireworks displays in the whole of South East England. In his active days in the Rotary Club, if my dad wasn’t manning the grand Carshalton Park gate here, rattling a can for charity, he was shaking his stuff - and his can - at Carshalton’s historic Victorian train station, or running the London Marathon for charity in his role as Carshalton
Rotary’s President. My mum has just stepped down as President of the Inner Wheel club, and both still assist with fundraising for the village and various charities.
So, check your calendar and keep the first weekend in December free, when we will launch our collaborative Carshalton Rocks! campaign and bring a sparkling Surrey Fashion Week celebrity charity catwalk show to the village during its fantastic Frost Fair, which is held on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December around the dazzling Carshalton Ponds. With a music, art and fashion-filled winter wonderland fuelled by Great British Events and in aid of Think Ocean on its way, Christmas in Carshalton will ROCK our county this year, so hotfoot it to the high street and together, let’s get this great family village firmly on the prosperous footfall map and back in booming business for many decades to come.

Surrey Fashion Week: @surreyfashionweekuk
Surrey’s premier club and resort celebrates its Ruby Anniversary with a look back at 40 years of fabulousness! In the year that Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl topped the charts, breakfast TV launched and the UK introduced the one pound coin, a sleepy Surrey golf club was spotted by an ambitious entrepreneur and so the journey began to transform Foxhills into a multiaward-winning club and resort for the whole family.
Ian Hayton was among the pioneers of the family-style country club in the UK in the 1980’s and with his wife, Pamela, they quickly developed the manor house of Foxhills which has stood proudly in Ottershaw for over 200 years, beyond a golf club to Surrey’s premium hotel, club and resort which now welcomes thousands of guests every year and boasts a thriving membership.
Sadly, Ian Hayton passed away in 2010 but his legacy continues under the watchful eye of his son, Marc, Foxhills’ current CEO. He and the rest of the Hayton family marked 40 years of ownership of Foxhills by hosting a glamorous masked ball earlier this month where members, guests and staff from all eras enjoyed a lavish feast and elegant entertainment. The evening was a celebration of Foxhills, honouring its special place, not just in the community of Ottershaw and its surrounds, but in the heart of all who visit and use it.
A high-flying ad executive from the era so well encapsulated by the Mad Men TV series, Ian Hayton said upon buying Foxhills: “It is the perfect beginning for the perfect country club. A club should be at the centre
of a member’s activities, they can play their sports but it’s at the heart of their social scene too. There’s no reason why people shouldn’t just join because it’s a good place to be. I visualise an evolution of young people growing up in the club environment, as an extension of their home background.”
He had spotted the huge potential of the historic manor house and golf club set in 400 acres of stunning Surrey countryside, less than an hour out of Central London. The savvy entrepreneur is said to have noticed how the men playing golf all rushed off post-match to enjoy family meals and remarked: “If we can get their families here to join them, we keep the wallet here”.
Within five years, the golf club had rooms and its first paying guests. Over the next four decades, the family added more rooms whilst adapting and diversifying to meet the rapidly changing leisure consumers’ needs from the 1980s
to now. More than £35 million of investment over the 40-year period means the resort now boasts an Olympic array of facilities including five pools, 11 tennis courts, three golf courses, children’s soft play, three restaurants, a fullyequipped gym, spa and yoga cabin, and offers more than 200 weekly activities for its members and hotel guests.
It has been frequented by many a celebrity and dignitary over the decades, from David Cameron to Omar Sharif and Sylvester Stallone who was a long-term guest of the hotel. The estate has also starred in top TV shows such Downton Abbey and Spooks as well as in a Cadbury’s advert in 1978.
Over the years, Foxhills has weathered a variety of storms; some literal, like the 1986 hurricane when the estate lost many trees, to more recently the pandemic when it had to close its doors for the first, and only time. In keeping with its generous nature, the club and its members worked together to donate over £28k to local food banks during that period.
To happier times, and in 1999, Foxhills celebrated the Millennium with one of its trademark extravagant New Year balls (whilst back-room staff nervously prepared to ward off the feared Millennium bug!). Social get togethers are a big part of the club’s appeal, from fireworks events and summer soirees to movie nights and drag brunches, there’s an occasion for everyone to enjoy at Foxhills, whether you’re a member or not.
The rapid revolution of technology has propelled hospitality forward, particularly in the last 20 years. Booking platforms transformed the industry and Foxhills launched its own website
in the late 1990s. Yet its discerning customers still seek the human touch so evident throughout the resort, with over two thirds still choosing to book in person over the telephone to this day!
From old print adverts in local newspapers, social media marketing campaigns started to emerge from 2010 when the club launched its Twitter account, soon followed by Facebook and Instagram where the great and the good now share their experiences at Surrey’s premier resort and club for all to enjoy. What hasn’t changed too much is the Foxhills’ emblem, ‘CJ’, who first appeared in 1975 when the club was purchased by Aer Lingus and has evolved, remaining a distinguished figurehead for the club and brand.
Golf remains at the heart of Foxhills’ heritage and today over 66,000 rounds of golf are played at the club every year across its three award-winning courses. What’s more, its scholarship programme, The Foxhills Foundation - which is the oldest in the country – has produced some of the country’s top golfers including Anthony Wall and Paul Casey.
Foxhills has always prided itself on its delicious culinary offerings and trends in cuisine have undoubtedly changed over the decades. From dishes like Breast of Chicken Country style and a three-course set menu with wine costing under £10 40 years ago, The Fox dining rooms has now been awarded 2 AA Rosettes for its elegantly refined mouthwatering menu – and the best bit is that it’s open to local residents, not just guests of the hotel and members.
With just 30 staff in 1983, the resort now employs over 400 people, yet its family ethos and independent
spirit shines through. Pamela, now in her eighties, recalls: “When your husband comes home and says he’s just bought a 19th century mansion and would like you to decorate and furnish it, you’re likely rendered speechless. I was initially thrilled, then the panic set in!”
She set about individually styling each room as if it were her own home. Her vision, ‘authentic charm with a home from home feel’. From those initial, admittedly quite chintzy curtains and carpets of their time, the rooms at Foxhills are now classic and contemporary in design but retain the unmistakable stamp of Pamela’s original vision which indeed runs throughout the hotel and is encapsulated in its tagline ‘where you belong’.
Current owner and CEO Marc Hayton says: “As we look forward to the next 40 years, Foxhills has even more exciting plans to ensure we continue to welcome and delight guests and members alike.”

The Running Mare is one of the most iconic destination pubs in Cobham, and one of the most renowned dining restaurants in Surrey. Since the current owners bought the pub in 1991 it has been operated as a family business incorporating a kitchen that continually produces excellent food and front of house staff that provide a warm, professional welcome to all our guests. Whether dining or just popping in for a drink, The Running Mare provides a friendly environment and an inviting customer experience whilst still retaining the inherent character of the Great British Inn.
We were mightily impressed with The Running Mare during our recent visit to the famous Cobham pub.
Steeped in history with a beautiful, picturesque setting on The Tilt in Cobham we were wowed from our initial entrance. We were seated in the lively, vibrant ‘Small Bar’ area adorned with Formula One sporting memorabilia and enjoyed exquisite food, drinks and service from the Bar Manager Jimmy and Waitress Mae on this fabulous Tuesday night outing!
A family run pub you will often see the owners Adrian and his son Olliewho took over ‘The Runner’ in 1991 (after Adrian’s 31 year tenure as licencee) turning the pub into the exquisite dining and family friendly establishment that it is today.
The focus is firmly on quality, community and fun which the Runners has in spades. Plus, the largest selection of beers and traditional ales we have seen in a long time!
With an impressive menu consisting of tantalising dishes including Pan-fried Scallops, Burrata, Soup of the Day and many more we were spoilt for choice.
We opted for the Sticky Asian Duck Salad served with honey and hoisin dressing – which was devine. The duck was cooked perfectly with lots of crisp and the portion size was generous with an abundance of duck, seasonal leaves and of course, the delicious sweet dressing.
Next up we decided to try the Prawns Pil Pil with six large King Prawns served in a sizzling clay dish with chilli, garlic oil and rustic bread to dip. The dish was amazing; the prawns were large and succulent and flavours intense – the perfect amount of garlic and chilli…spicy but not too spicy.
With a wide selection on the mains menu, choosing just the one proved difficult.
We went for an 8oz Surrey Farm Fillet Steak which was cooked medium rare to perfection and came with triple cooked chips, peppercorn sauce and a side salad with the ripest vine cherry tomatoes. A delicious dish which came in at only £30 - a
snip for such a sublime steak main. We were also enticed by the delicious Slow Braised Lamb Shank which came on a bed of mash with braised red cabbage, mint and red currant jus. The meat was so succulent and literally fell off the bone – an amazing dish, packed with flavour and well worth a try. This came from the ‘Daily Specials Menu’ that The Running Mare change every day to keep fresh, seasonal and exciting dishes
for its customers!
Next up, on the recommendation of our waitress Mae, we went for the Homemade 6oz Scotch steak burger with mature cheddar & smoked bacon in a brioche bun with the most delicious house burger sauce and skinny fries to accompany. This dish was to die for!
As was the final main of the evening – the Lobster Macaroni Cheese with freshly caught that day lobster in a sizzling pan of creamy and delicious cheesy pasta. The lobster was
delicious and plentiful… a great dish! You can also opt for the Mac & Cheese with smoked bacon or the Vegetarian option if you wanted a variation of the American main!
The Sticky Toffee Pudding, made using a traditional, homemade family recipe, is one of the most popular desserts at The Running Mare and is definitely worth a mention as it sells out a lot on Sundays we have been told! The Seasonal Fruit Crumble using the in-season fruits is another firm
favourite – we didn’t have room to try but will definitely be back soon and will save more room.
If you haven’t got a sweet tooth then we can wholeheartedly recommend the famed ‘Cheeseboard’ – a pub and boozy classic!
The Running Mare is famed for its traditional Sunday Roasts too – with visitors coming far and wide to sample these impressive delights on their Sunday menu:
Roast Sirloin of English beef, goose fat roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and seasonal vegetables £19.50
Half a roast free-range chicken with a sausage meat, apricot and herb stuffing, goose fat roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables £17.95 Roast leg of Devonshire lamb, goose fat roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables £18.50
Roast loin of Suffolk pork with homemade apple sauce, crackling, goose fat roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables £17.50
Mixed Roast – combination of beef, lamb and pork with homemade apple sauce, crackling, Yorkshire pudding, goose fat roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables £20.95
Nut roast - buttered new potatoes, traditional roast vegetables, vegetarian gravy £16.95 Small roast £14.50 - Small mixed £16.95
Vegetarian pasta of the week £14.95
Make sure you book in early as The Running Mare Sunday Lunches get very booked up!
The Running Mare has long been one of the landmark bars in Cobham. The family behind the success of the Running Mare has a fascinating background which is evident throughout. At the helm is Adrian Bailey, who has been the licence holder for over 31 years, joined by his son Ollie who spent most of his life in the Cobham area being educated at Parkside and Reeds schools just up the road; Oliver is now director and running the growth of the business, kitchen and the wide variety of social events the Running Mare offer – including regular quiz and live music nights – as well as showing all the latest sporting matches on their big screen TV.
Whilst Adrian comes from a hospitality background – he has run a number of successful pubs and bars before the Running Mare.
Adrian spent a large part of his life supporting and travelling with his younger brother, the racing driver Julian Bailey, on the route to Formula One. The influences from this part of their lives can be felt everywhere but most especially in the Small Bar where there are numerous photographs reflecting not just Julian’s career but his friends and other members of the family who have followed in his footsteps.
Like other bars in Cobham, the pub has a few claims to fame. Famous names from four and two wheels, Damon Hill to Wayne Gardner are regular customers and the ‘Runner’ has hosted several events and private functions.
Julian went on to win the FIA World Sportscar Championship amongst other great achievements, but he probably receives the most acclaim for being Top Gear’s STIG for many years! As you can imagine the Running Mare car park has hosted an extremely interesting collection of supercars in its time!
The pub’s proximity to the Chelsea FC training ground also makes the Running Mare a preferred watering hole for players, their families, pundits and media which makes for interesting ‘people watching’. ‘The Runner’ is also a popular spot for many
of Cobham and Oxshott’s celebrities from Andy Murray to Jimmy White to ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and from the music world Rick Parfitt and Paul Weller. When Surrey Rocks were there TV personality Bobby Davro popped in for a meal! The warmth and character of The Running Mare is reflected in its prevailing popularity. It’s a must try!
Other bars and restaurants in Cobham come and go, but the ‘Runner’ remains a staunch favourite amongst locals and newcomers alike. The ‘Bailey’s’ work hard to maintain the feeling of a traditional pub while evolving and moving with the times which is reflected in the great variety of food and drinks on offer and events which populate the pub’s calendar and never fail to disappoint. We can’t wait to come back again!
Our passion is food and drink and delivering exceptional events. We are a bespoke and discreet service which has been operating for 5 years now driven by quality, whether entertaining guests with an elegant dinner party or a lavish banquet, weddings, barbeques or Hogroasts we can accommodate just about all requests. We offer a complete tailored service if required, organising cutlery / crockery table decor, serving staff, mixologists, bar set- ups and services, florists, marquees, tables, chairs along with much more. Delivering exceptional food, events and sevice in a professional and friendly manner is at the heart of what drives us forward.
From laidback and loungey to upright and elegant, find your perfect sofa match in BoConcept’s New AW23/24 Collection with expert guidance from their Interior Design Stylists
Since it was founded more than 70 years ago in the golden age of Danish design, BoConcept has become known for their pared-back furniture that strikes a balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal. For AW23, this philosophy manifests throughout their ‘New Kollektion’. But how can these new pieces fit into our homes?
Laying watching a movie, sitting reading a book, sinking into the cushions after a long day...when it comes to selecting a sofa, Bo-
Concept asks, what’s your preferred lounging mode?
“It is very important to know the lifestyle of the customer”, says Lupe Cuervo, BoConcept Interior Stylist. “We always like to discover their tastes, dynamics and habits as a starting point. “For instance, do they have pets? Kids? Will they be entertaining a lot?”
It’s true, a good place to start when you’re thinking about making the investment is, how will I live with this sofa? Then, according to BoConcept’s interior design experts, size, style and comfort levels are the big three considerations.
“To ensure the right size, you have to know the measurements of the space and how many people are going to use the sofa”, says Héctor Velasco, Interior Stylist. Assess the dimensions of your living space and determine the sofa size that will best fit the room. Take into account the layout and consider whether a sectional or modular sofa would be more suitable for your needs.
For comfort, it is a question of “working on the ergonomics because each person is different”, according to Claire Lempereur, Interior Stylist. “Based on the persons’ size, the height and depth of the seat will be important considerations.” The best way to test this is to try the sofas out, according to Stylist David Edwards: “Try out the sofa we have on display and sit on them like you would at home. If you sit with your feet up, do that in the showroom. If you cuddle into
the arm of the sofa then sit like this too.”
When it comes to style, Héctor Velasco always asks: “Are you looking for a modern sofa or a classic one? Do you want a sofa with a specific design in mind?” Then there’s the fun part of choosing colours and fabrics – which should also be chosen with your family’s lifestyle firmly front of mind. Request fabric swatches, too, to see how they feel in your room.
“The material you choose is key, since it will frame the durability of the sofa”, says Velasco. “Do you want a leather sofa or a fabric one? What type of material is best for your needs and lifestyle? For example, if you have pets or small children, you may want to opt for a fabric that is durable and easy to clean.”
“Salamanca is very big, very soft and very comfortable. It’s designed not to live with but to live in”, says its designer Henrik Pederson. “There is no strict system to this bohemian style - play around with the cushions, find your favourite position and chill.”
With freestanding or modular versions
available, the design also allows for customisation and flexibility with the moveable cushions. So how deep does it go? The super soft seats boast a unit depth of 112cm. Keeping with the ‘ultra comfort’ theme, the cushions create a cocooning effect thanks to their composition of 50% feathers.
Berne combines clean lines with a timeless design, making it a versatile choice for all tastes. It also comes in three sizes – 2, 2.5 and 3-seater options - so works for large and more compact spaces.
Claire Lempereur recommends it for smaller living spaces: “It is a light sofa with simple and elegant lines. Its depth of 85cm allows it to adapt to small spaces”. As for its lounge-factor, David Edwards recommends Berne for those seeking “a more formal seating position with the straight-ish back design”, he says. “Use low rectangular cushions on the base of your back for added seating comfort.”
With its bold cubic shape and generous proportions, the Carmo sofa exudes modern elegance. Don’t be fooled by the straight lines, this sofa is a dream to sit on, too.
Perfectly suited to open-plan living, the open end creates a welcoming atmosphere. The flexibility with the modular units means added comfort too. “You can lounge on the Carmo with the help of the reclining module, have a chaise or add a footstool to the design”, advises David Edwards. Put your feet up, stretch out or use it as an extra seat – you won’t be sorry for choosing this comfortable chaise longue sofa.
Organic shapes and minimal lines come together to create a contemporary expression with Modena. Its sleek design, characterized by slender legs and clean lines, creates a visually appealing aesthetic.
The low back combines with organic shapes for a minimalistic look that invites casual relaxation. “The Modena frame has a low profile that wraps around you”, says David Edwards. “This allows you to relax
with your arms on both the back frame and the arms, which are at a comfortable height.” Modena is soft all the way around. With organic curves, the cushioned armrest makes this sofa perfect for a nap, too.

This August marked 10 Years Being Married to my husband. I wanted to share with you my top tips for a successful marriage as well as all the details of the epic celebration we had.
By no means am I a relationship guru but having navigated through being with someone for 14 years, married for 10 years and 2 kids later, I feel I could share a little bit of insight. Of course, no marriage is perfect, and we have been through some ups and downs but we always come out of the other side stronger.
When I met my husband (in Aquum, Clapham, which was voted the worst nightclub in London!) he was like no other man I had met before – honest and forthcoming. There were certainly no games involved and he laid all his cards out on the table straight away which I found so refreshing. He literally whisked me off my feet and we fell in love very

quickly. We have been through some tough times together, such as the death of his best friend, the stresses that his job entails and all the worry that children bring. The number one thing that we always make sure we do is communicate and listen to one another. It is so important to share how you are feeling and who better than your life partner?! This puts us in good stead to understanding each other and working through things. This can be very hard, especially as we all lead such busy lives. Date nights are key to us keeping the spark there and to also have a really good catch up! Whether it’s dinner at home or in London, I love making the effort and getting dressed up and having that 1:1 time with no distractions. It’s also a great way to share our common interest – food! Having time apart is also healthy and we both make sure that we do this too. This could be dinner or a weekend away with friends. He enjoys the quality time he spends with the children when I am away. We are equals in the relationship, especially when it comes to the children. In my opinion, Fathers are just as important as Mothers and are pillars in the development of a child’s well-being.
For such a momentous occasion we decided it would be nice to celebrate and throw a party
for our closest friends. We are both at a time in our lives where we have established really solid, beautiful friendships and we thought it would be a great time to have a party. If there is ever a time in your life when you want to see who your real friends are, an event like this certainly shows you. The reactions when we told friends, and the efforts that they made to attend, really blew us away.
We decided to do this at Inveraray Castle in Scotland. Why Scotland I hear you ask? My husband and I don’t have any Scottish roots but we do have a beautiful estate in the middle of the Scottish Highlands. We bought this in 2020 as an investment. It has certainly been a bit of a project for the last few years and we have many more years of work to get it to its full potential. ‘Rock Hill Farm’ exudes peace and tranquillity in the heart of The Highlands. Set over 130 acres of undulating ground it is completely private in a beautifully secluded location. Currently there are 2 Lochside self-catering lodges up and running, with access to a private Loch and stunning mountain views. We are currently renovating the original barn which we hope to convert to 8 bedrooms, complete with a secret cinema room.
Whilst we had many visits up there, we literally stumbled across a castle in Inveraray which was 20 minutes away. Inveraray Castle has been the seat of the Dukes of Argyll, chiefs of Clan Campbell, since the 18th Century. It is open to the public and the Duke and Duchess of Argyll reside there in a private wing. Set on 60,000 acres of land, it is an example of Gothic revival architecture. There is something about its fairytale façade that is simply magical. According to many it is actually haunted by a harpist who was hanged in 1644, but I didn’t tell my guests that!
It has been featured in the 2012 Christmas episode of Downton Abbey as “Duneagle Castle” as well as the exterior filming location for the BBC series “A very British Scandal”. Whilst we were being tourists and visiting the castle for the first time, I walked into the Armoury Hall and thought, “Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a party here”?! My Mother (an event planner) and I got to work and she helped to make it happen…
I was adamant that I did not want this to be another Wedding so we did not invite extended family or friends, just 50 of our close friends which was the perfect number for an intimate affair. We started with a champagne reception on the grounds with one of our favourite Champagnes Louis Roederer (this was also served at our Wedding) whilst a Cellist was serenading our guests on a
stunning electric cello. The Gods were in our favour that day as it had miraculously stopped raining an hour before the event. For the call to dinner we had a Bagpiper to Pipe us all in. This was one of my highlights as it was so captivating and moving and a wonderful ode to Scotland. It really got the crown going, everyone was clapping and cheering. Dinner was served in the Salon on two long tables, dressed with fresh flowers and foliage, all green and white in clear crystal vases. Scattered amongst the flowers were candles filled with our bespoke Wedding scent by ‘Rachel Vosper Belgravia’. Whilst we ate the finest Scottish smoked salmon, sirloin of beef and chocolate mousse, we had the incredible pianist ‘Okiem’ playing cinematic classic music on the piano. Okiem is hugely talented, having toured on keyboards for many of the biggest artists in the music industry from Tinie Tempah to John Legend and Prince. This piano is steeped in history as it was used by American musical duo Lerner and Loewe who composed several of the songs for ‘My Fair Lady’.
I had a feeling that my husband was going to do a speech so I wanted to do something back for him but a little more unique. After months of planning with a projection mapping company, I managed to compile a slideshow of our lives together which was projected on to the facade of Inveraray Castle. The look on his face when I got up and told everyone to go outside was priceless! Nobody knew what to expect but it really was a spectacular way to show my love and appreciation to him. There were not many dry eyes in the house/castle after that!
Then it was time to PARTY, the part I was most looking forward to. We had bespoke cocktails made in a bar in the Armoury Hall including our version of an espresso martini which was made from cold brew coffee, vodka, coffee liquer and oat foam.
My cousin Andrea Zara (who is an awesome DJ) played all our favourite tunes from the 90s until now which got the crowd going. We partied the night away and nobody wanted it to end! Although we had to end it because we only had a licence until midnight…the party continued elsewhere involving the Loch Fyne Hotel, a dog, a bra and some contact lenses but that shall strictly remain an inside joke! Whilst we were having dinner I looked around and realised how lucky we are to have such wonderful and supportive friends in our lives, and most importantly how lucky we are to have each other.

Kim Kardashian has called the radiofrequency-microneedling combo Morpheus8 a 'game changer', while actresses Lindsay Lohan and Bella Thorne preach its benefits too. In the ever-evolving universe of nonsurgical, minimally invasive beauty treatments, a name has been catching everyone's attention: Morpheus 8.
BRINGING HARLEY STREET TO YOUR DOORSTEP IN SURREY. REIGATE’S AWARD-WINNING PLASTIC AND AESTHETIC SURGEON DR ROHIT
SETH SPECIALISES IN COSMETIC PROCEDURES SUCH AS UPPER AND LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY, FACETITE, NECKTITE, BODYTITE, LIPOSUCTION, GYNAECOMASTIA, LABIAPLASTY, HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY, TUMMY TUCKS, INJECTABLES AND MORE. THIS MONTH HE IS DISCUSSING THE GAME CHANGER THAT IS MORPHEUS 8.
In the quest for eternal youth and timeless beauty, advancements in modern aesthetics have taken us to new heights. Gone are the days of invasive surgeries with extended downtime. Enter Morpheus 8, a revolutionary non-surgical treatment that is changing the game and making headlines in the world of beauty and skincare.
Morpheus 8 combines two powerful technologies - radiofrequency (RF) energy and micro-needlinginto a single, transformative treatment. This groundbreaking synergy allows for precise, customisable and highly effective results; all without the need for scalpels or extensive recovery periods.
At its core, Morpheus 8 stimulates the production of collagen, the key protein responsible for the youthful firmness and elasticity of our skin. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases, leading to sagging skin, wrinkles and other signs of ageing.
During a Morpheus 8 treatment, a specialised handpiece gently glides over the skin's surface. Tiny microneedles create micro-injuries, while RF energy is delivered deep into the skin's layers. This dual-action approach jumpstarts collagen production and remodels the skin - leaving it tighter, smoother, and more radiant.
The benefits of Morpheus 8 are nothing short of remarkable, making it a go to choice for those seeking non-surgical rejuvenation:
YOUTHFUL SKIN: Morpheus 8 is a true time-reversal treatment. It significantly tightens sagging skin, reducing the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
ACNE SCAR IMPROVEMENT: For those with acne scars, Morpheus 8 is a game-changer. It minimises the appearance of scars, leaving skin smoother and more even-toned.
CUSTOMISABLE TREATMENTS: Every Morpheus 8 treatment is tailored to your unique skin concerns and goals. Whether you want to target crow's feet, nasolabial folds, or simply refresh your overall complexion, Morpheus 8 has you covered.
SAFE AND NON-SURGICAL: Morpheus 8 is a minimally invasive procedure with no need for scalpels, sutures or extended recovery periods. It is suitable for all skin types.
NATURAL RESULTS: One of the most significant advantages of Morpheus 8 is the ability to achieve natural looking results. It enhances your beauty, never altering it. Say goodbye to frozen expressions and hello to a more vibrant you.
Perhaps the most compelling aspect of Morpheus 8 is the renewed sense of confidence it provides. For those who have felt self-conscious about their skin's appearance, Morpheus 8 offers a path to rejuvenation and self-assurance. It's not just about looking younger; it's about feeling better and more comfortable in your own skin.
As you embark on your journey to timeless beauty, consider Morpheus 8 as your trusted companion. The future of aesthetic rejuvenation has arrived, and it's all about rediscovering your youth and redefining your beauty, naturally and confidently.
Take that first step towards your transformation. Contact a qualified Morpheus 8 provider today and unlock the beauty that time may have hidden but never truly fades. Say hello to the future of beauty with Morpheus 8.

As a sustainable style advocate, I discuss multiple elements of the fashion industry on my social media channels, from the people on the production line to how you can style your favourite thrifted pieces.
Yet there is one crucial, yet widely undiscussed aspect to consider when it come to developing a more sustainable relationship with fashion, and that is end-of-life disposal.
With so much emphasis on the sustainable nature of making and buying clothes, when was the last time you, (or the brands you shop from!) looked at what actually happens to the clothes once you've returned or disposed of them? I took at a look at the end-of-life processes for 3 of the biggest brands in the world.

Thankfully I had discovered the online resale app Vinted by that point, so would regularly buy and sell to my fellow preloved-fashion lovers around the country. But for many people during that time, scrolling on the apps of hyper fast fashion brands such as Shein became their daily dopamine hit. According to www.restofworld.com, the value of clothes being bought online in the U.S between 2019 and 2021 jumped from $427billion to $1 trillion, almost surpassing Zara and H&M combined.
And in turn, the value of returns jumped from $41B to a terrifying $218B.
A Shein spokesperson told Rest of World "Many returned items...are donated to local charities or sold to a wholesaler."
From there, these wholesalers ship our castoffs globally. Their journey continues on to local flea markets where one seller in Nigeria, Ernest Okeke, explained that most of the clothes he sells are "factory rejects and unwanted garments."
So just how many hundreds of bulk shipments of secondhand, cheaply produced Shein items does Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia need each week? And more importantly, how much more can they cope with?
Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet investigated H&M's in-house garment recycling programme by purchasing 10 secondhand H&M items, attaching AirTags to them for tracking purposes, and handing them into the H&M recycling programme. It's worth noting that by handing in a bag of donations to H&M, you will receive a voucher off your next shop with them, effectively negating the environmental benefits of recycling your clothing by being encouraged to simply begin the process all over again, but I digress.
On their website, H&M claims that these items are then sorted into three categories: Rewear, Reuse and Recycle. They do not however, include the forth category, 'Shipped off round the world'. One item ended up in Benin, an African country where unwanted clothes are known for being dumped and then incinerated.
Another found its way to Panipat, India, where child labour in the textile industry is rife and issues with textile waste is great.
2 items travelled nearly 3800 kilometers to Romania. Together, the 10 items travelled over 1.5 laps of the earth on trucks and ships, adding to carbon dioxide emissions that significantly contribute to the climate crisis.
Who knew our unwanted items were so well travelled?
Finally, the behemoth that is Amazon. "In 2021, a record $761 billion of merchandise was returned," According to the National Retail Federation.
The CEO of reverse logistics provider Optoro, which supports businesses with their returns processes, told CNBC. com:
"From all those returns, there's now nearly 6 billion pounds of landfill waste generated a year and 16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions (from the decomposing textiles) as well. That's the equivalent of the waste produced by 3.3 million Americans in a year."
When it comes to Amazon returns, as ever it is very simple for the buyer - just a quick trip to their local returns shop and a preprinted label. Sellers on the other hand, have a harder choice to make.
Ex Amazon employee Raunak Nirmal explains: "[As a seller]
you're essentially forced to decide if you want to recall that inventory to your warehouse - which is an expensive processrepackage it yourself, and then ship it back into a warehouse to sell, which doesn't make sense [financially] 80-90% of the time. Or you could choose...the simplest option to automatically destroy all returns.”
As consumers, we purchase in good faith that brands are doing their best for the planet, but we are seeing more and more often that this is simply not the case.
Whilst the focus du jour of sustainable fashion still revolves around the discovery of beautiful sustainable brands or how we style our preloved designer pieces, the conversation around what happens to your clothing at the end of its life in your wardrobe is of equal, if not more, importance!
We must consider that despite huge leaps in streamlining the online shopping process for consumers, perhaps the beast has grown too huge, too quickly for brands to cope with the other side of that success. As such, the shameful state of their returns and recycling processes are playing a devastating, yet often unseen and unspoken role in our fast (fashion) sprint into a truly unsustainable future.

Visualisation is a technique used by many of sporting’s elite. I am a martial artist and was a professional athlete for many years. However, without even knowing it, visualisation techniques were engrained on me from such a young age. It is about creating a mental image of what you want to happen or feel in reality and practicing it in your mind’s eye before the actual event. For example if you visualise yourself winning, it will make it more likely to happen, so the theory goes.
Visualisation like this will help improve your performance, if done correctly. But as with any skill one of the most important parts is the training as this is your rehearsal and repetition.
As an athlete myself who used to compete for Great Britain and now a parent, it is useful to have an understanding of why visualisation is key and how you can help build visualisation into your training or your child’s training programme. Here are my top 7 steps to help you implement visualisation.
1. Set clear goals: Begin by defining clear and specific goals. Whether that is improving a particular skill, winning a competition, or achieving a small personal achievement. Having a well-defined objective is essential for effective visualisation.
2. Take long, slow breaths, breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth to slow the heart rate and help to relax. I do this with my youngest who has just started school. If he gets himself worked up in the morning, we do breathing exercises to help calm his mind and body.
3. Have mental rehearsals. Visualise yourself performing at your best in your chosen sport. Use all of your senses to create a vivid mental image. Feel the emotions of success and accomplishment.
4. Ensure it’s from a first-person perspective. Have your child visualise from their own perspective rather than watching from a third-person perspective. This helps create a stronger connection between your mental rehearsal and your actual performance.
5. Incorporate detail and precision. Pay attention to the smallest details in your visualisation. Imagine executing techniques flawlessly and making the right decisions under pressure. If something doesn’t go to plan, pick yourselves up and carry on to win or achieve what it is you set out to achieve.
6. Practice regularly. Visualisation improves over time with practice. Incorporate it into your training regime. Spend time visualising your goals before important events and over time you will be able to use it as a great mental training tool.
7. Positive self-talk. Combine positive affirmations with your visualisations. If working with children - help them to use encouraging statements to boost their confidence and motivation.
Visualisation doesn’t always have to be specific to competing. It can also be used as a relaxation technique, or to get through daily challenges and set backs.
If your child is getting wound up about an upcoming competition or an exam, or is even struggling with the work load from school, you can encourage them to use visualisation to help.
Use exactly the same technique, but imagining a peaceful setting, such as lying on a beach, with the sound of the ocean in the background. Just a few minutes of this, paired with long, deep breaths, will encourage calmness.
It can also help your child recover from injury by keeping the mind focused and motivation levels high.
Visualisation can help you improve your mental skills, build confidence, reduce anxiety and enhance your overall athletic performance. It is definitely a valuable tool that I use regularly to map out in my mind how I want a scenario to pan out. When used consistently and effectively, it will really complement your physical training and help you to achieve your goals.

October is going to be all about love, Aries. Romantic connections are bound to blossom in the next few weeks, and if you’re single, this is your time to shine. Get ready, as you are about to start your new romantic journey. Furthermore, a breakthrough in your professional life is bringing on new thoughts about a project. You can see a clear path when it comes to work and are now navigating the next steps. This is a fresh month for you, with brand new people and ideas making their way into your life. Finally, you have an air of authority about you at the moment, making people follow your lead. Take charge and guide others on their journey. Numerologically, look out for the number 1 Aries.
21 APR – 20 MAY
Getting the truth about a certain situation is your main goal for October, Taurus. It feels like someone has been lying to you, but the truth is finally ready to come out. Keep digging and get to the bottom of this, you deserve answers. When it comes to people you can’t trust in your life, it may be time to reevaluate some relationships. If you aren’t getting anything from them anymore, it may be time to end things. Think about whether you actually enjoy their company, and if not, cut them off. As an Earth sign, you are a natural high achiever and are now ready to reach for the stars. Take that next big step and keep going. Don’t stop until you are at the top of your field.
22 MAY – 21 JUNE
Courage is the keyword for you this month, Gemini. Getting the courage to take the next step can be daunting, but it is something you must do. Trust yourself, and know that no matter what happens, you will be alright. As you take this leap, you will see more personal growth than ever before. By the end of October, you will be a completely different person than who you were at the start! Enjoy this journey, as it’s going to take you far. Throughout all of this personal growth, you are going to be exploring different sides to yourself that you never knew you had. It’s as if you are getting to know yourself again. Take some time to truly understand who the person you are becoming is.
22 JUNE – 23 JULY
Weigh up your options and think things through carefully, Cancerian. This isn’t a time for rash decisions, as your mind needs time to process what is going on. Make a pro’s and a con’s list to decide what you should do next. Meanwhile, a partnership in your life is blossoming nicely! Take some time to cherish this person. Whether it be romantic, friendship, familial, or professional; this partnership is a big priority in your life, and one that must be nurtured. Finally, it is time to activate your intuition and start listening to your gut. If you feel like something isn’t right, it probably isn’t. Numerologically, keep an eye out for the number 2. Astrologically, with your ruling planet in Taurus, don’t be surprised if you become more stubborn than normal.
24 JULY – 23 AUG
This is going to be an important month for you Leo. Success is yours, but only if you work for it. Carry on doing exactly what you’re doing and know that you are going to succeed. Furthermore, others are looking to you as their leader, but you are shying away from the role. You may fear being seen as a leader and prefer a role out of the spotlight. Try to find other ways to influence those around you, maybe by writing your knowledge down and letting them interpret it their own way. Lastly, being at home in October is the best place for you. This isn’t a time to travel and explore the world. Instead, work on yourself and your relationships from the comfort of your own home.
24 AUG – SEPT 3
October is going to be a big month for you Virgo! Your values and beliefs are going to be tested in the next few weeks but stay strong and have faith that you know what’s best for you. Learn a new perspective from a loved one and broaden your horizons. When it comes to your professional life, delays may cause you to feel frustrated. However, fear not, as these delays are part of the bigger plan. You need time to think things through and look at all possible outcomes, so look at these delays as time to grow. Finally, now is the time to slay all of your dragons and spend time with the people who actually mean something to you. Cut off any loose ends and embrace those you love. Don’t waste time on energy vampires.
Don’t allow yourself to believe other people’s lies, Libra. There is someone in your life who is trying to deceive you. See through the fabrications and trust your gut. Furthermore, a lack of direction is causing you to have trouble imagining the future. It’s okay to get lost every now and then but remember to actually take time to find yourself again. You don’t need to rush anything, just breathe, and take each day as it comes. Finally, October is likely to bring some frustration into your life, as you want things to happen quicker. Trust that everything is happening at the speed it’s supposed to. There’s nothing wrong with waiting a while. Astrologically, with the Sun in your sign for the next few weeks, prepare to be the centre of attention!
24
Your family home is where you are supposed to be in October, Scorpio. Stability and comfort are going to be very important to you, as you are now at the end of a difficult time. Emotional fulfilment is the next step in your journey. Releasing any worries that have been burdening you is first on your list. It’s okay to enjoy the present moment without worrying about what’s to come. Let go of the stresses weighing you down, they aren’t helping anything. Finally, glance around and appreciate everything you have created in your life. It’s about time you noticed the happiness and contentment surrounding you. Be grateful that you are content in your relationships, work, lifestyle and wellbeing. Astrologically, the stars are telling you to nurture your family relationships.
Conflicts in your life are causing you to doubt yourself, Sagittarius. It’s totally normal to fight with people, it just means you may not be compatible. Don’t think less of yourself because you can’t get along with someone, you just weren’t meant to have a close relationship. Furthermore, right now is the time to take inspired action. You have spent long enough thinking and planning, and now you must do something with this inspiration. It doesn’t have to be much but take the first step soon. Finally, October brings a sort of homecoming for you. If you have been spending time away from your house, or even family, you will be coming back to rebuild these connections. Whether you are excited about this or not, try to enjoy the sense of security a home can bring.
22 DEC – 20 JAN
You are conservative by nature Capricorn, and this isn’t going to change anytime soon. You’re not someone to be loud and out there, but you can’t stop the people who are. If you don’t feel comfortable in someone’s company, don’t try to change them, just leave. However, you are extremely nurturing and will find these skills useful in October. People are going to be leaning on you to care for them. Love and comfort those who need it and allow yourself to access your caring nature as much as possible. Finally, contemplate what you want from your life. You’re never going to be 100% happy with everything, so take some time to think about whether the pros outweigh the cons. Open your mind to see the overall picture.
21
October is a month of change for you, Aquarius. From the beginning of this month to the end, things are going to be very different. Embrace this change and don’t fight the inevitable. Multiple priorities are pulling you in different directions, with both being equally important. Finding the time to deal with two separate priorities is going to be tough, but in the long run necessary. Try to find new ways to manage your time. Finally, newly formed ideas are constantly popping into your head and now is the perfect time to listen to them. Be creative and get these ideas out into the world. Your sharp wit and quick brain will prove to be useful tools in the coming weeks.
October is all about wealth for you Pisces, material wealth, as well as emotional. You may find new opportunities to generate more money this month, or you could even receive a financial gift. Furthermore, karma is something to remember in the coming weeks. Bad things don’t always happen to bad people, but do you want to go to bed at night knowing you could have treated someone better? For you own wellbeing, try to treat those around you with respect. Finally, using your intuition is your best bet! Follow your gut and don’t listen to opinions that don’t align with your values. Only you know what’s best for you, so guide yourself down the path of your unique journey.

GIVE US A BRIEF RUNDOWN ABOUT YOUR SHOW?
I think my talk is really about the power of DNA. I talk about my work on BBC Two’s DNA Family Secrets with Stacey Dooley, how important DNA is in catching criminals and tracing family, and also about leading the identification of the remains of King Richard III. I also talk about people who are adopted or donor-conceived and how you can use DNA to trace biological parents, and some of the ethical issues around DNA testing - what if you find people you're related to and they don’t want to be found?
HOW DID GENETICS BECOME YOUR THING?
I started as an archaeologist in Vancouver, being involved in digs on First Nations projects. Then I studied archaeology at Cambridge and moved into biological anthropology. While at Cambridge, I was taught about the Romanov case [where they used archaeology and genetics to investigate the remains of the Russian royal family murdered by Bolsheviks in 1918], and that was it: it was then that I knew I wanted to switch to genetics to be able to use it to answer questions in history and archaeology. I'm now Professor of Genetics and Public Engagement at the University of Leicester. The public engagement side is all about making science and genetics approachable for the lay person.
YOU DID AN EARLY PROJECT WITH NATIONAL TREASURE SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER.
Some of my first research was looking at the link between surnames and genetics. Surnames generally come down through the male line, and the Y chromosome is a
segment of our DNA which also goes down the male line. Sir David Attenborough, who grew up in Leicester, took part in my surname project – he sort of became the poster boy for it. The question was, if you share a surname, does this mean you all share a common ancestor from hundreds of years ago? If so, you should all share a type of Y chromosome. When I looked at the Attenboroughs, about 90 per cent of those I tested had identical or near identical Y chromosome types showing they were almost all related to one another.
ARE YOU ALSO GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT THE RICHARD III PROJECT? IS IT TRUE HE WASN’T REALLY FOUND UNDER THE R IN THE CARPARK?
Yes! That’s a myth! I was there and can categorically say Richard III wasn’t found under the R in the carpark! I’ll be taking people on a bit of a behind-the-scenes tour of the project. I was part of the project from the summer of 2011, over a year before the excavation started, and then helping with the excavation and then leading the identification of the remains. What I love about it is that it was just such a wonderful project involving so many people all bringing their expertise to the table. And the science on the project was – and I'm very proud to say this – mainly led by women.
DO YOU ENJOY YOUR WORK ON DNA FAMILY SECRETS?
I love it – because of how much it means to people to find answers to questions they’ve had all their lives – especially finding family. They’re in tears, I’m in tears. It’s such longed-for information that we can give them - it’s something they have
been missing their entire life. I liken it to a jigsaw puzzle, and what DNA can do is fill in part of that jigsaw puzzle. Being able to say, ‘We’ve found your mum for you, or your dad for you’ is just brilliant, but I feel a massive responsibly because their sense of self is changing in front of your eyes.
Margaret from series one stands out as one - she was adopted and didn’t know who her parents were. She wanted to know who her mum was and really just have a photograph. She was in her sixties and thought she had left it too late, so then to be able to tell her not only had we found her mum but that she was alive was just so moving. To be able to do that, what a gift.
When we find someone but they have already died, or you find the parent and they don’t want anything to do with their child. It’s heartbreaking. It's why we always use an intermediary. We have a really lovely social worker who will approach the biological parent and ask if they would like to be put in contact. It’s all done with care and everyone has access to a wonderful counsellor we have on the show.
It sounds like a 1970s hippie thing, but we’re all part of a huge human family. We’re all related, it’s simply a matter of degree.

CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING A FINALIST IN THE MS. GREAT BRITAIN 2023 COMPETITION. CAN YOU ELABORATE ON THE STEREOTYPES YOU'RE AIMING TO CHALLENGE?
I'd like to express my gratitude for being a finalist. Reflecting on the concept of preconceived notions and stereotypes, it's remarkable how just a year ago, I found myself grappling with these very same biases. My journey is anchored in a strong commitment to well-being, harmoniously aligned with my ongoing dedication to charitable endeavours. The core message revolves around embracing and taking pride in one's authentic self. The application process shattered preconceived barriers. As someone who typically wears a size 12/14, I confidently navigated the process. In a bold move, I even submitted a photograph of myself in trousers, a symbolic step towards inclusivity. Interestingly, the application procedure focuses predominantly on your goals, accomplishments and aspirations, rather than superficial appearances. This environment has become a haven where I feel a genuine sense of belonging and safety. Participating in this process is a true honour. Attending events like Miss Surrey and Miss Hertfordshire has been truly eye-opening. Witnessing the profound impact these pageants have had on my youngest daughter’s confidence has been particularly moving. Her earnest desire to take part prompted me to explore reputable and secure opportunities. The growth in her confidence serves as a testament to the profound journey these pageants offer. Without reservation, I wholeheartedly recommend this enriching experience to women and girls of all walks of life, regardless of age or size.
YOU'VE ACHIEVED FINALIST POSITIONS IN SIX OTHER COMPETITIONS THIS YEAR. COULD YOU SHARE SOME DETAILS ABOUT THESE COMPETITIONS AND WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN THEM?
Last year, someone kindly nominated me for a ‘Positivity Award’ which got me thinking about the whole awards process. Visibility is important to help more people, so after being nominated for some more awards, to my astonishment, I found myself selected as a finalist for all of them, a distinction that I am truly grateful for. One of these awards, which I initially believed to be a local honour, turned out to be the National Finals, an unexpected and impressive achievement. The following awards mark my finalist status this year: The Global Woman Most Inspirational Woman Award, SMBN Single Mums Business Network Single Parent Business Award, Great British Entrepreneur Awards Entrepreneur of the Year, SME National Awards Community Business of the Year, and The Tutors’ Association
Primary Tutor of the Year. Additionally, I've already received a CREA Global Award from Brainz Magazine for my contributions to entrepreneurship and writing. I am truly amazed by these accomplishments. This upcoming year promises to be a thrilling one filled with opportunities for gratitude.
BALANCING ROLES AS AN EDUCATOR, KEYNOTE SPEAKER, PRESENTER, CURVE MODEL, AND CORPORATE PROFESSIONAL SEEMS DEMANDING. HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO EXCEL IN THESE DIVERSE FIELDS SIMULTANEOUSLY?
Prioritising is so important but I love each day to be different. I get this with my education business and children and teens will always be at the forefront of everything I do and well as advocating for diversity and inclusion. I do not watch TV at all- I hardly have time. I cannot believe that in my late 30s some of these roles are just taking off - I hope this is inspiring for other women and shows that age has no limitations! I had my children young and now it’s time to excel my career. We are usually taught to have a career first, then children later. There are pros and cons to both and I am enjoying it this way round because I have much more experience to bring to all of the people I serve and to help single mums and new entrepreneurs.
THROUGHOUT YOUR JOURNEY, WHO HAS BEEN THE MOST INFLUENTIAL FIGURE INSPIRING YOU TO PURSUE YOUR GOALS AND BREAK BARRIERS?
My older daughter has been my greatest teacher. She has given me first-hand experience of helping children who are neurodivergent and have related difficulties. I have parented her my way, instead of the schools’ expectations. She suffers from anxiety, so she has had some time off school, but she makes sure to self-study and use the slides from all her lessons. As a result, she is still at the top of her classes. This makes me want to say to parents: parent in the way that is best for your child. Happiness and well-being are the most important priorities. I have started to home school my youngest, and so far, it is amazing; her happiness has grown. She still gets to socialize and participate in activities like swimming, gymnastics, and other social activities.
YOUR VENTURE INTO THE DIVERSITY, INCLUSION AND EQUITY BUSINESS IS IMPRESSIVE. WHAT WAS THE CATALYST THAT LED YOU TO ESTABLISH THIS ENTERPRISE?
Without realising it consciously, I have always been passionate about fairness. In fact, for fun, I undertook a highly regarded values test a year ago, and ‘fairness’ was ranked in the top five of my most important values. During the ten years that I was a teacher and assistant headteacher in a variety of schools, I saw that learning was unfair for some, especially children who learned in a different way or needed a shift in the education system to enjoy and benefit wholly from school. It is regrettable to say that school can cause and escalate mental health problems for some rather that help. When I started my own education business, this gave me the opportunity to do things my way and what was best for the children I taught. I haven’t looked back since. My primary goals are, of course, fairness, empowerment, and helping everyone I work with, including myself, achieve their full potential in life. It is important to be a role model to those you help.
CAN YOU PROVIDE INSIGHTS INTO YOUR EDUCATION-FOCUSED BUSINESS AND HOW YOU WENT ABOUT LAUNCHING IT?
It all started in my kitchen and is still going on in my kitchen! Identifying a market gap, I initiated my venture, which still thrives within those same kitchen walls. Over time, I've evolved into a certified therapist and coach, while also managing four additional businesses. The initial phase was incredibly tough, compounded by the fact that I was pregnant and undergoing an elevenmonth induction at a prestigious private school. Seizing upon this window, they released me, forcing me into a sink-or-swim situation. Subsequent to the birth of my second child, I also became a single parent and chose to swim. Looking back, I'm grateful for that pivotal moment as it led us to a vastly improved quality of life and more choice and freedom. I am so much happier now even though as an entrepreneur it can be really tough sometimes but these businesses are my passion and this is what gets me through the harder times.
BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR COMES WITH ITS SHARE OF CHALLENGES. COULD YOU HIGHLIGHT A FEW HURDLES YOU'VE ENCOUNTERED AND HOW YOU'VE OVERCOME THEM?
Balancing the demands of both business and family life presents frequent challenges, yet the rewards outweigh the difficulties. Establishing clear boundaries is crucial
to ensure proper attention to each aspect of life, and this approach proves effective. Identifying the optimal moments to disconnect from work has posed my most significant obstacle due to my passion for continuous growth in my endeavours. Manoeuvring unexpected and time-consuming situations can be complex. Feedback from customers holds immense significance, offering invaluable insights for refining products or services. Promptly incorporating customer suggestions and addressing concerns yields contented customers who often evolve into steadfast advocates for your brand. The emergence of Covid posed an immense trial, necessitating adaptation of my business to prevent an overnight loss of clientele. However, this challenge also spawned numerous opportunities for self-improvement that have shaped my current achievements.
AS A SINGLE PARENT & ENTREPRENEUR WHAT FIVE PRACTICAL TIPS WOULD YOU OFFER TO OTHERS?
1. When it comes to the crunch, don't listen to other people's opinions; it's your vision and calling, not theirs. They won't understand. Surround yourself with those who wholeheartedly support you.
2. You can achieve anything you focus your energy on. So, if you genuinely aspire to be an entrepreneur, it must be one of your top priorities.
3. Be a reliable, consistent, tactful and swift communicator to build trust.
4 Listen to your clients and be prepared to adapt. If you listen, they will help guide your business to success.
5. There will be times when you feel exhausted, uncomfortable and face a mountain of work or unexpected problems. Work through it; the effort will be worthwhile.
WHAT ACTIVITIES OR FACTORS DO YOU FIND MOST ENERGISING AND INVIGORATING IN BOTH YOUR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE?
I get my energy from socialising and networking with people and dance is a passion of mine. I have also started swimming with my youngest daughter regularly because I am home-schooling her for a year at least.
NETWORKING IS ONE OF YOUR PASSIONS. COULD YOU SHARE YOUR STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVELY LEVERAGING NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES TO BENEFIT YOUR VARIOUS ENDEAVOURS?
In recent years, I've actively engaged with numerous remarkable networks and individuals who have been a great source of inspiration. Currently, I'm
weaving together these diverse networks, recognising my proficiency in connecting people who possess the potential to mutually enhance each other's endeavours. This experience brings immense satisfaction, leading me to adopt the moniker of a "network amplifier." There exist numerous avenues to support causes close to your heart, and contributing doesn't necessarily need to involve monetary contributions from your end. Facilitating connections between individuals can effectively contribute to advancing these causes.
YOUR PASSION FOR WRITING FOR NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES IS INTRIGUING. HOW DID THIS PASSION ORIGINATE, AND WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO ESTABLISH YOURSELF AS A WRITER IN THIS DOMAIN?
I've always been passionate about writing, although during my life at points, I had a love-hate relationship with it. When I was young, I used to write songs; one of them was called 'Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire.' I used to write my feelings down sometimes but usually threw the paper away for fear of discovery. When my best friend died at age 15, and I was left to deal with my grief on my own for
a few hours, because my mum had to go back to work, I wrote her a poem. Writing has always been my therapy and a way to help and inspire others based on the experiences I've had. I have also co-authored a book about teaching, but writing articles is my passion and one of the best feelings in the world is knowing that you have helped or inspired someone, even just one person.
IN WHAT WAYS DO YOU BELIEVE YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE MS. GREAT BRITAIN 2023 COMPETITION WILL CONTRIBUTE TO BROADER CONVERSATIONS ABOUT DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION?
Being a finalist in the Ms. Great Britain competition allows me to play a role in showcasing a rich tapestry of backgrounds, cultures and viewpoints, highlighting the pivotal importance of inclusiveness on a national platform. The all-encompassing environment fostered by Saffron Hart and Matt Elliot, the esteemed national directors, is genuinely motivating and I am privileged to be selected. Individuals of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and sizes are extended a warm invitation to apply, and this aspect fills me with honour and a sense of belonging. This experience stands in stark contrast to the stereotypical notions often associated with pageantry.
AS SOMEONE WITH A DYNAMIC PRESENCE IN BOTH CREATIVE AND CORPORATE SPHERES, HOW DO YOU FIND HARMONY BETWEEN THESE SEEMINGLY DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE?
Navigating the interplay between my dynamic engagement in both creative and corporate realms involves a conscious effort to harmonize these seemingly distinct dimensions of my professional journey. By integrating innovative thinking and strategic approaches, I bridge the gap between creative expression and pragmatic business demands. This fusion allows me to leverage my imaginative prowess while ensuring practical effectiveness, resulting in a cohesive and successful professional trajectory.
YOUR DEDICATION TO CHALLENGING STEREOTYPES IS EVIDENT. CAN YOU ELABORATE ON ANY SPECIFIC INSTANCES WHERE YOU'VE WITNESSED A POSITIVE SHIFT IN PEOPLE'S PERCEPTIONS DUE TO YOUR EFFORTS?
I receive numerous messages filled with encouragement from individuals who draw inspiration from my experiences or have been introduced to new possibilities through my influence. A recent instance that deeply moved me involved my friend Katherine. I extended an invitation for her to join a networking event, where she had the chance to meet Marisa Peer, someone I have undergone training with. Marisa Peer is the founder of RTT therapy, which incorporates NLP, psychotherapy and CBT, which greatly enhanced my grasp of psychological fundamentals and practical techniques. With thankful tears in her eyes, Katherine expressed, 'You don’t understand what you have done for me.’ That was priceless for me and made me tearful too.

A new generation of storage strikes the perfect balance between beauty and functionality and puts personality center stage. BoConcept Interior stylist Kate Imogen Wood shares her storage style tips.
Since BoConcept first opened in 1952, traditional bookcases have been in the product portfolio. “The designs have been adjusted from time to time”, says Collections and Visuals Director Claus Ditlev Jensen, “but we are now at a point where we welcome a new storage direction. Calgary is so much more than storage.”
“Closed wall systems with large cabinets are not in Vogue anymore”, he says. “The Calgary is a contemporary storage and display system for how we live now.
It brings together versatile functionality with a lightness of expression and beautiful proportions.”
“Some people still like to display books, but what we see now is a trend towards people displaying keepsakes and special pieces that hold personal value.”
Interior stylist Kate Imogen Wood agrees: “It’s always important to have your personality imprinted in your home.” So what to display? Kate Imogen Wood, stylist on BoConcept’s AW23/24 shoot, shares her top tips to master the art of display.
Tip 1. A simple styling idea for books is to have a book open on your favourite page with inspiring content. This serves to break up the display and also adds visual interest that you can keep updating. Another tip with books is to combine them at different height levels, too, which looks visually more interesting.
Tip 2. Style your favourite keepsakes or treasured items to be on display rather than hidden away in a cupboard or drawer. You could arrange jewellery in a decorative bowl or pepper mementos from your travels between or in front of books.
Tip 3. As well as photographs, try framing treasured letters, cards, or even your child’s artwork. It adds a different visual
pace by showcasing text in a frame rather than solely displaying pictures, plus you’ll be reminded of how much the moment meant to you.
Tip 4. Use your shelving as a functional space as well as for display to keep it from looking too contrived. If you opted for the pull-down bar in the Calgary system, for instance, you might style glasses and cocktail recipe books around it. Or if the shelves are in your bedroom, the jewellery you display would be on hand to use as well as being a decorative touch.
Tip 5. Play around with a mixture of shapes and textures, so you may have organic pieces like decorative shells or plants next to more linear objects to add depth and texture to your display.
