EDITOR’S NOTE Hello Surrey,

I

t’s a great honour and privilege as a born and bred Surrey girl to bring you the first edition of Surrey Rocks Magazine. What a wonderful county we are all fortunate to live in. There are so many amazing places to visit (as tipped off in our ‘Seven Wonders of Surrey’ feature) as we have all the advantages of being close to London but without the trappings of a city - smog, overcrowding, congestion charges - and beautiful greenbelt land to explore and enjoy with our families. Plus, we all know we have the best restaurants, bars and shopping. Having lived in Cardiff (for 3 years) Essex (very briefly, TG) Kent (for 2 years) London (for 10 years) and Spain (for 6 years) I can hand on heart say this is the best place I have ever lived. So now we know Surrey Rocks… let me tell you about our September Issue. Such a lot of input went into this edition… can’t thank Kimberley Wyatt & Max Rogers enough for supporting ethical fashion by dedicating their time to our fashion shoot. Plus Earl, Angela, Julie, Sophie, De Vere, Lizzie and designers V, Paradise, Bernard and Gigi. Lovely to create this inspirational shoot that supports local businesses and sustainable fashion. Next up is our columnists… the fantastic Ria Elaina providing It’s A Mum’s Life, Helen Watts our Astrologist Mumma, Matilda getting to grips with the Cougar Phenomenon and a special shout out to Roshna from Petite Edits who I think has solved the BIG problem with SMALL fashion on page 68. Our Gastronomy Guide is controversial we know! No one can eat out at all of Surrey’s restaurants, we are trying, but we take your opinions very strongly and if there is a worthy restaurant we may have missed off please let us know. We have 5 Gastro Guide reviewers who will try and test secretly. They are out in full force this month as we have the Surrey Rocks Awards nominations next month. The best of the best in Surrey will be nominated. And you get to decide on the eventual winners from our 7-strong shortlist in categories including Best Hotel, Best Restaurant, Best Bar, Best Nightclub & Best Gym. Looking forward to the big reveal. Til next time,

everyone’s talking about... LITTLE MIX MULTIPLY August was a busy month for the Little Mix girls. Leigh-Anne Pinnock and her fiancé Andre Gray welcomed twins into the world on August 16th while only 5 days later, Perrie Edwards and her footballer boyfriend Alex Oxaide-Chamberlain announced their new arrival. Fans went into overdrive on Saturday when Alex missed his premiership match sparking rumours Perrie was in labour. While fans were more shocked to hear that Pinnock and Gray had their twins a week earlier, choosing not to announce the births until the 22nd.

Both chose to announce with black and white photos of their babies tiny feet on Instagram. Interestingly both Little Mixers have decided not to reveal the sex and names of their new offspring yet. Maybe they are waiting for their coveted Hello! first-look photoshoot? Third bandmate Jade Thirwall penned an emotional Instagram post on hearing the news saying, “My heart is honestly bursting for my sisters. Unbelievably proud of these women for handling their pregnancies like the Queens they truly are and bringing a little Little Mix into the world. Love you @ leighannepinnock @perrieedwards. Can’t wait to be the cool Auntie Jade lol.”

MADONNA & WILLIAMS GET IT ON Madonna’s recent trip to Italy to celebrate her 63rd birthday with her 27-year-old boyfriend got more column inches than even she was expecting. The ‘Holiday’ singer was certainly not shy in her public displays of affection with Ahlamalik Williams. Despite the couple being linked since 2019 and a 36-year age gap, they could barely keep their hands off each other. Madonna was visiting Leece in Italy with Williams, her eldest daughter Lourdes, son Rocco and twins Stella and Estere where they took in the sights and enjoyed an impressive firework display put on for her birthday. The press have been quick to criticise Madonna of late for her cougar-like behaviour… do you agree? Check out our ‘Cougars’ feature on page 52 to help make your mind up.

NEWS PIERS SLAMS MEGHAN & HARRY The ongoing feud between former ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter Piers Morgan and the former Royals reached new heights yesterday when Piers branded them “gutless weasels” in his latest Twitter rant. Morgan was referring to recent reports that the couple considered naming the member of the Royal Family who discussed what their baby’s skin colour would be, sensationally first revealed during their Oprah Winfrey interview in March. Piers posted a picture of the Daily Mail story and alongside it he blasted: “Go on then you gutless weasels – name the supposed Royal racist and let them respond. Otherwise you continue to smear the whole family.” This feud has been going on for sometime now, with Piers choosing to walk off set and subsequently leaving his position as presenter of the flagship ITV show earlier this year after disagreeing with co-workers on the extent of the Duke and Duchesses claims in the Oprah interview.

SEAN LOCK TRAGIC DEATH SHOCKS NATION Much-loved TV comedian Sean Lock sadly passed away, aged 58, following a two-year private battle with Lung Cancer on August 18th. The ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ star had continued to work despite his illness and has amassed a fortune of nearly £3m to leave to his beloved wife and three children. Tributes poured in from his friends and colleagues including Jimmy Carr who wrote: “Brutal news about Sean Lock. I loved him. I’m watching clips of him right now – laughing and crying. I’ll miss him so much.” Bill Bailey said: “It’s heartbreaking to lose my dearest friend Sean Lock, he was a true original, a wonderful comic. All my thoughts are with his family. Even in his last few days, we were still having a laugh, still joking, still coming up with ideas. We had great conversations. I brought in my guitar and sang him his favourite Johnny Cash songs.” Russell Brand shared his favourite Sean Lock joke, tweeting: “You know when you’re on a night bus there’s always a nutter on there? I got on one last night and there wasn’t one – so I had to do it. RIP.” Even nemesis Piers who was on the receiving end of the comedian’s jokes shared his respects, retelling Lock’s joke about him: ”If I could have my ashes spread anywhere I wanted, I’d have them spread in Piers Morgan’s eyes. RIP Sean Lock.”

TEAM GB TRIUMPHANT WITH 65 MEDAL WINS Team GB brought home an impressive 65 medals in the Tokyo Olympics and had reason to celebrate coming fourth overall. USA topped the medal table at Tokyo with a total of 113 medals across 27 different events, while China won 88 medals across the relatively low number of 20 events. Among our record-breaking highlights were cyclist Jason Kenny becoming Team GB’s most successful Olympic athlete of all time after clinching his seventh gold and ninth medal in the men’s Keirin at the Izu Velodrome. And sailors Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre won Gold in the Women’s 470 class making Mills, 33, the most successful Olympic sailor ever. She won Gold in Rio and Silver in London.

Who could forget Tom Daley’s tears as he scooped the coveted Gold medal in the synchronised dive with Matty Lee? And the youngest ever Team GB winner ever 13-year-old Skateboarder Sky Brown clinched a Bronze medal. Boris Johnson took to social media to praise Team GB's performances at the Games: "These past two weeks, Team GB have shown us the very best of this country - demonstrating our sportsmanship, hard work and determination. From record-breaking performances in the pool to gravitydefying runs in skateboarding and BMX, this team has shown extraordinary depth and breadth of talent.”

WHAT'S TRENDING...

#AW/21FASHION SPECIAL

RED ALERT

Autumn/Winter 2021 has been all about colour for men’s fashion. The colour that’s been grabbing everyone’s attention is Red. Maybe because we have had to view the Paris, London & Milan runway shows through our laptop screens has made the ‘Red Trend’ ever more apparent to stand out this year. Regardless of its cause, the result is to pick one bright scarlett, cherry or vermillion shade in top, trousers or jacket and keep the rest of the colour palette neutral. Louis Vuitton red coats were de rigeur, similarly Matthew Williamson showed red bomber jackets while Jil Sander and Casablanca opted for coral red tailoring.

THE TRENCH Stepping into Autumn/Winter 2021 the classic trench coat is back for men. Without a flasher in sight, Burberry (of course) did it best on the runways although a nod has to go to the voluminous styles from Louis Vuitton where creative director Virgil Abloh showed his extra and oversized versions to a rapturous crowd. Fendi and Dries Van Noten were particularly good too. The trench was updated with bigger buckles, linings and jazzy prints for a modern take on this timeless classic piece. A wardrobe staple for men no doubt if you haven’t purchased one yet.

CASUAL WEAR As we are so used to at-home workwear with Zoom meetings done with shirts and ties on top and pyjamas hidden on the bottom half! New, chic brands like People’s Republic played on this trend reimagining the humble, casual two-piece, almost pyjama-esque look in subtle pastel hues and slinky fabrics. Dior got in on the casual trend with piped military suits in mohair while Prada and ERL favoured knitted two pieces, onesies and long johns in case we have to hunker down for another winter lockdown (we sincerely hope not!)

SPORTS TECHNOLOGY

VS SKINTED MINTED

JACKETS ON

Are you a surfer that happens to live in a city for your 9-5? Escaping to the coast for your favourite pastime could now be a thing of the past, with new surfing technology, Citiwave. Brand new surfing arenas are propping up in the unlikeliest of cities in Europe, including malls in Germany and outside busy business centres in France, you can literally surf an endless wave 6 feet high within a few minutes from your office desk. Rad. Made by surfers for surfers, Citiwave’s amazing installations range from 7m to 10m long and enables its users to surf a high perfect, endless wave from top to bottom of up to 1.8m. Plus with crowd seating, music and bars located on the arenas you can be sure of the Hawaiian beach atmosphere being transported to your local city centre. Citiwave ensure their technology enables a stable, safe and controlled surfing experience because of the maximum pressure of 1.8m high as opposed to water speed - which could prove dangerous. Also good news if you are a beginner, pressure can be modified within seconds by a touch of a button to release less pressure and water till you get to grips with smaller more manageable waves, rising through stages from 3 feet till the maximum 6 feet waves are reached. The fledgling Germany based company have now opened centres in Berlin, Vienna, Madrid, Zurich, Munich, Tokyo, Moscow and the US to date with plenty more planned for 2022. Citiwave has just exhibited at the C&C Centre Expo at ExCel in London with plans afoot to launch several more installations in the UK. No more details could be given at the time of going to press only that “plenty more Citiwave surfing technology centres plan to open in 2022.” Watch this space.

FOR HER CROPS WHAT'S TRENDING...

#TOP OF THE CROPS

As seen on actress Zendaya and designers from Tom Ford to Emilia Wickstead, this year has been be all about the crop top. For most of us, don’t think teeny-tiny tops exposing too much flesh, it’s all about the longer crops and bralettes that add a touch of sophistication to the trend.

Alternatively, pair a high waisted trouser suit with a longer white crop for a modern sophisticated trend. Good idea to take the look from day to evening is to wear a shirt to work, stash the top in your bag and wear out after a day in the office.

To top off your crop, team it with high waisted trousers or skirts, this will then skim the top so you won’t have to flash too much flesh. Also good if boozy summer BBQ’s haven’t been the kindest on your waistline. When thinking of what to wear over your new crop, structure is key, so go for denim jackets or rouched material as it will make your top look less flimsy. Or go like actress Kate Holmes (who is also in her forties) and pair with a matching cardigan. Topshop and Bershka both have good ranges, like this fine-knit cardi co-ord set below which is a steal at £17.99 for both items.

100 g pearl barley 1 butternut squash, (1.2kg) 2 red onions 2 cloves of garlic 2 red peppers 1 big bunch of fresh coriander, (60g) olive oil ½ teaspoon dried red chilli flakes 1 heaped teaspoon fennel seeds 1 heaped teaspoon cumin seeds 1 heaped teaspoon ground coriander 100 g mixed dates and dried apricots ½ a lemon 10 sheets of filo pastry 1 tablespoon shelled pistachios icing sugar, for dusting

METHOD Cook the pearl barley then drain. Wash the squash, then carefully cut it in half lengthways and remove the seeds. Peel the onions and garlic, and deseed the peppers. Chop the squash, onions and peppers into 1cm dice. Finely chop the garlic with the coriander stalks (reserving the leaves). Place it all in a pan on a medium-low heat with 2 tablespoons

of oil, the chilli flakes, fennel and cumin seeds, and the ground coriander. Sweat with a lid on for 25 to 30 minutes, or until soft but not coloured, stirring occasionally. Destone the dates and finely chop the flesh with the apricots and coriander leaves. Fold into the veg pan with the drained pearl barley, squeeze in the lemon juice, season to perfection, then leave to cool. Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4. Lay out two clean damp tea towels on a large work surface, side-by-side, with the longest edges facing you. Working quickly but taking care, lay out 3 sheets of filo side-by-side with the short edges towards you, overlapping each one by 2.5cm and brushing between the overlaps with water. Lightly brush the sheets with oil, place 3 filo sheets directly on top, then repeat with another 3 sheets. Save the remaining sheet for patching up. As evenly as possible, spoon your filling in a line along the long edge closest to you. Brush the opposite long edge with a little oil. Working slowly and carefully, use the tea towels to help you roll it up and away from you into a giant cigar, keeping it on the damp tea towel at all times. Roll it into a large pinwheel, working quickly but handling it gently to avoid too many cracks. Gently slide it onto a large greased baking tray, and patch up any gaps, if needed. Brush all over with more oil and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until gorgeous, crisp and golden. Ten minutes before the end, smash and sprinkle over the pistachios and an extra pinch of each of the spices, if you like. Serve with a super-light dusting of icing sugar. Delicious with all the usual trimmings, or served with a spiced tomato sauce.

WINE MATCH If you are having a vegetable based menu the best option is to go with wines that are a bit more mature. With vegetarian food the flavours are more subtle so you have to be a bit more careful with your wine decisions. The obvious difference between vegetable and meat cooking is the absence of rare protein and animal fat which both tame the tannins of full bodied reds. Therefore the best option is to go for a Bordeaux, Burgundy, Tuscany or a Napa Valley wine (although pricier) that go well with a dish that is classic and vegetable based like this one.

NEWS MOVIE REVIEW

REMINISCENCE From the co-creators of Westworld, this sci-fi blockbuster has the stellar cast of Hugh Jackman, Thandie Newton, Rebecca Ferguson and Daniel Wu. Set in a flooded, nearfuture Miami this film explores how with futuristic technology it is possible to delve into the minds of people and allow them to relive any memory they choose. However, when Jackman, who plays lead character Nick Bannister, ends up falling for one of his clients Mae (played by Greatest Showman actress Ferguson) he discovers she may well be involved in a series of violent crimes when exploring her past. Is she the love of his life or a fateful murderer? There are lots of plot twists and turns in this slick drama like you wouldn’t believe. It will keep even the best movie buffs guessing as to the eventual outcome. Beautifully shot with lots of ethereal memory flashback and water scenes, this feature film, directorial debut of Westworld and Burn Notice’s Lisa Joy is definitely worth a watch if sci-fi is your thing.

ALBUM REVIEW

DRAKE – CERTIFIED LOVER BOY Drake’s sixth studio LP is finally being released this month, after failing to launch back in January 2021 due to a “knee injury” he sustained, the world has been waiting with bated breath on news of the rapper’s comeback album. Drake’s dropped plenty of clues to how Certified Lover Boy may look. Back in October 2020 he revealed his product-tastic collab with Nike wearing a cool pink heart-quilted jacket - seemingly showing the Canadian rapper’s softer side - whilst netting him $460m for the collab. And in the ‘Laugh Now Play Later’ video there were roses and ski-mask wearing Cupids. Oo-er. So, with love firmly on his mind, and the extended 9 months album release date, presumably to recover from his injuries and put in play more commercial deals (!) Drake finally announced on Sound 42 radio last month the album was finally “Cooked!” We hope you like this much anticipated album as much as we did.

BOOK REVIEW

SUPER SURVIVAL SQUAD Inspired by the Romantic movement in English literature and its affinity with the natural world, Surrey-based author Tina Talbot, has written a series of children's books to engage children in nature. Accepting that our advance in technology is as human as our dependency on nature, Tina, is striving to create a balance between the two. In her Super Survival Squad series she explores the narratives: Water in ‘The Daring Droplets’ where three characters Drizzle, Dribble and Dazzle keep us alive by hydrating us and helping us stay clean. Wildflowers in ‘The Wilful Wildflowers’ are very important as they help pollinators like bees, birds and butterflies use their special powers to give us food to eat. Trees which use their unique powers by giving us oxygen to breathe. There are 4 books so far in the Super Survival Squad series that teach children how important nature is to our existence. Fun and educational they are great reads for any child (although primarily aimed at 5 to 9-year-olds) with beautiful supporting illustrations by Judit Matthews.

KIM & MAX

C

elebrity Journalist Angela Sara West chats exclusively to Pussycat Doll Kim & Model Husband Max on Dancing, Sky Dining & Saying ‘No’ To Fast Fashion. From the catwalk and studio shoots, to the small and silver screens, this multi-talented Weybridge-based model Max Rogers walks and works with style legends, while his well-known American wife Kimberly Wyatt belts out her A-list band’s hits, brings her heels and shakes her booty on stages worldwide. The couple have three children and reside in Weybridge in Surrey. Supporting the local community is something they both feel passionate about.

Max factor On being named ‘GQ Man for the Season’, high-fashion model Max Rogers has accomplished iconic status. Now one of the world’s top male models, making the cover of ‘GQ Style’ (naked!) back in 2008 became his big break into the fashion industry, and the job where he first met world-famous fashion designer Tom Ford. “Tom is one of the most inspirational people I've ever worked with...” Max tells me. “We named our son Ford Senna after Tom and the late racing driver Ayrton Senna. His given name is ‘Senna’, as we thought ‘Senna Ford’ would sound too much like ‘Centrefold’!” he laughs. “But Ford is there for him, if he wants to sound a little more American.” Signed with Storm in London, among other prestigious agencies worldwide, Max has worked with famous photographers Rankin, Mario Testino and Craig McDean, and carried out copious campaigns for big brands, including Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce&Gabbana, Ralph Lauren and bespoke men's tailor Gieves & Hawkes. While his wife Kimberly Wyatt is making waves around the world as one-fifth of the supergroup Pussycat Dolls, (Watch out for their 2022 Tour – coming to Surrey!) breaking new barriers promoting dance in schools or conducting her popular ‘Bring Your Heels’ empowering dance workout classes at Pineapple Studios, when he’s not looking after their kids, Max is modelling from his Weybridge home, strutting his stuff on the catwalk or striking a pose in commercials for clients. But it doesn’t end there… multitalented Max boasts many more strings to his creative bow… The 6ft 1” blue-eyed supermodel has also been busy being a judge on Tyra Banks’ Lifetime show ‘Britain’s Next Top Model’ (‘BNTM’), having a dynamic influence on the arts, and making his mark as actor, Instagram @maxrogers starring not only on TV, but also

on the big screen, in movies including Guy Ritchie’s ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’.

Silver screen credits A figurehead of the dance industry, just like her hubby, accomplished dancer/singer Kim’s career has also taken off in the film and TV industry, seeing her star in ‘Starsky & Hutch’ alongside Hollywood heavyweights Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Juliette Lewis, ‘Be Cool’ with John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Vince Vaughn and Danny DeVito, and ‘13 going on 30’ with Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. She also starred in short film ‘Fallen Dream’ about her dance and experiences in LA, and most recently alongside Luke Goss and Dean Cain in award-winning British producer Amar Adatia’s international film ‘R.I.A’. “The heart of me is dance,” she tells me. “Everything I do has always been rooted in dance. The Pussycat Dolls was incredible, but I’m really enjoying this second lease of life as a performer, jumping into acting and taking it on, just as I did as a dancer. It’s been brilliant and I absolutely love it! So, I guess as I’m ‘maturing’, acting is sort of my go-to… I can see a real lengthy career in it.” Kim’s biggest acting success so far is playing Sasha Small in the immensely-popular CBBC comedy drama ‘Almost Never’, following the ups and downs of boyband The Wonderland. “We recently completed series 3 and it’s such a successful show, it looks like it’s going to America!”

A collaborative creative couple Model-of-17-years Max, meanwhile, is also known for his inspiring innovations BEHIND the lens, producing short films and music videos which have seen him recognised by the 'Prestige Film Awards'. Fusing his unique style perspective, fashion heavily influences his artistic directorial style film forays when bringing his own writing to life, showcasing his extraordinary storytelling and character development through his exceptional cinematography. He says his highly-skilful other half is a huge inspiration to him. “Kimberly is my muse…” he reveals. “When I met her, she showed me just how much work and dedication it takes to truly excel at something. I’ve never seen a work ethic like it, and her level of talent is a joy to witness and work with.” As exceptionally-creative people, self-described “model-withside-hustles” Max says the pair often collaborate on impromptu projects. “If we’re left with enough time to chat, the chances are something creative will turn up. At the moment, there’s less time with the kids being so young, but we’ve still managed a few ventures, including a project called ‘C-section To Pussycat Doll’, documenting Kim’s quick return to stage with The Dolls after having a caesarean. Look out for the hashtag #C2PCD!” They’re especially proud of one particularly-successful joint project, which clinched the coveted 'Prestige Short Film-Gold Awards'. “Our short film ‘Tea For Two’ was shown at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival and borne out of us just chatting on holiday in Tuscany!” Max enthuses. “I’m proud of what we have done so far because it involves so much of who we are as a couple, in terms of dance, fitness, production and, of course, our lives as parents.”

Max meets Kim – celebrated creatives converge… Max and Kim’s paths first crossed at ‘The Clothes Show Live’ in Birmingham in 2011. Two years later, Max popped the question and they married the following Feb, with their first child born that December. Putting fame partly on hold to raise a family, the following years saw not only a sister for Willow when Maple made her appearance, but Kim’s transition from dancing’n’singing sensation to domestic goddess, juggling her multi-faceted career

NEWS in the entertainment world with family life, with much support from her model husband Max. How does she deal with the ‘juggle struggle’’? “Dance kinda helps… by creating a space that’s just for me to just connect with music and dance, and step away from motherhood for a minute and connect to me as a woman is so important,” she explains. “I’ve met so many women who fall into that ‘trap’ of the constant caring for the needs of your children, and you do kind of leave yourself behind if you’re not careful. Dance helps keep you in tune and in touch with yourself as a human, as a woman. You can bring what you discover in the studio into your everyday life, and I feel it gives you more confidence as a mum, as well as the ability to enjoy it that much more.”

A sustainable Surrey home In 2016, the globally-famous pair moved out of the big smoke to the picturesque riverside town of Weybridge here in Surrey. Home to many a well-heeled celebrity, the affluent area has historically been home to a veritable ‘Who’s Who’ of A-list names. “With no preference on where would live, we ended up in such a lovely part of the world!” Max enthuses. “The great thing about Weybridge/Addlestone is that we’re still so connected to the capital, but with the bonus of less traffic and a slightly slower, family-friendly way of life in Surrey.”

DON’TCHA DANCE DOLLS Filming new content for their Move Home Studio marketplace upped the tempo during lockdown, offering online dance classes in everything from commercial and contemporary, to bodyweight fitness, mummy-to-be-workouts, yoga and booty band workouts from their impressive studio/fitness area at their attractive abode. Finished last year, the functional building sports a stripped-back, exposed-design concept, with all features and details designed to be structurally integral, allowing form to follow function. “Kim and I dedicate most of our lives to fitness and, in her case, dance as well, so it seemed sensible to dedicate a space to that in our home. It’s our version of the home office!” says Max. “It’s where we spend three hours of our day working things out, whether that be photography, fitness or dance.” Kim also spent lockdown sharpening her photography skills, taking pics of her model hubby Max for his work. “We sort of repurposed skills that we already had,” Max explains. “#modellingfromhome was a hashtag that I used… and working form home while looking after the kids was a creative endeavour in itself! But we managed to do quite a good job of it, and shot the Reiss and Ted Baker campaigns all during lockdown… quite the challenge, but we got through it!

ONLINE DANCE INSPO Whether you’re taking your first steps, have two left feet or are already an ace mover’n’shaker or a pro at pirouettes, don your dancing shoes and join Kim and Max for some fun’n’fitness with their fantastic online classes, where you can work your way towards conquering Kim’s trademark move, the famous leg tilt, and discover the secrets behind her serious dance moves through her daily Dance Drills. When it comes to choreography, who better than Kim to break down the dance steps to teach you the moves to her band’s smash hits? She says she was “super excited” to offer her ‘Bring Your Heels’ dance classes to this brand-new platform. “I’ve taught dance all over the world, even before I was a Pussycat Doll. And over the years, I’ve developed these classes along with my increasing level experience, with regards the Pussycat Dolls and being a judge on ‘Got to Dance’ and working with The Youth Sport Trust and children

and the school’s curriculum in the UK, which was a huge project. And all that knowledge and experience goes into my classes. I’ve also developed a method that means that no matter what level you are, from beginners with two left feet to other Pussycat Dolls, I’ve taught all ages. Ashley, a fellow Pussycat Doll, is a supreme-level dancer and has taken a class with me, and EVERYONE, even non-dancers, gets something out of it due to the method I have devised.” She champions her commercial ‘Heels’ classes as her ‘flagship’ styles with her method, because they relate most closely to her Dolls’ classes, but with firm foundations in ballet, Kim also teaches a contemporary class, and beginners and young kids, through tap and other styles.

DOLL DOMINATION Exploding onto the pop scene, The Pussycat Dolls' debut single ‘Sway’ featured on the soundtrack of the 2004 film ‘Shall We Dance’, starring Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez and Susan Sarandon, and they subsequently rolled out hit after hit from their prodigious album

iconic tilt, her first solo single handed her a no.5 hit, and she co-wrote/produced a critically-acclaimed album with her second recording group, Her Majesty and the Wolves. Featuring on Aggro Santos’ song ‘Candy’, creating another UK Top 5 hit, she also became head judge on the hit Sky One show ‘Got to Dance’, alongside Davina McCall, Ashley Banjo and Adam Garcia. With a sprinkling of other TV appearances, including ITV's ‘Give a Pet a Home’, hosted by Surrey’s Amanda Holden, Kim also became the lead judge for CBBC’s flagship dance show ‘Taking the Next Step’, and has starred on Keith Lemon’s ‘Celebrity Juice’, alongside Spice Girl Mel B, Howard Donald, Jay McGuiness and Kimberley Walsh.

Kim’s Well-Fit campaign The super-flexible Pussycat Doll not only keeps herself on tiptop form through dance, but by practising yoga, meditation and mindfulness, and loves a run alongside the river nearby. Devoted to changing young people’s lives through dance, Kim has played her part in promoting health and wellbeing in schools through dance. In her role as an ambassador for the Youth Sport Trust, she works relentlessly to make dance compulsory every day in primary schools with her Well-Fit campaign, a unique initiative to use PE and school sport to enhance and empower schoolchildren through dance and fitness. She’s also an ambassador for the Bloch Dance World Cup, the greatest all-genre dance competition in the world for children and young adults. “Now, as a teacher, being able to give back and help others through dance, helping them find confidence through movement and become comfortable in their own space and in their own body has become really important work to me. So if I’m not acting, performing or on tour with the Pussycat Dolls, if I have any downtime, then I love connecting with the next generation of dancers. Throughout lockdown, I’ve been doing lots of Zoom classes and connecting to dance studios and trying to fan the flames of their fire and passion for dance, so that we’re able to get back to the studio.”

‘PCD’, enjoying a string of no.1 singles from the debut album. Followed by a second successful toe-tapping album, ‘Doll Domination’, the Grammy-nominated girl group racked up no fewer than 11 no.1 singles and two multi-platinum albums, selling a staggering 15 million albums and 40 million singles worldwide, making them one of the biggest-selling girl groups of all time. Together, they toured the planet, selling out large arenas and stadiums and teaming up with superstar singers Rihanna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and performing to the late Duke of Edinburgh at the Royal Variety Performance, along the way. The industrious pop stars have won prestigious awards aplenty, including 'Best Dance Video' for their smash hit ‘Buttons’ featuring Snoop Dogg, and 'Best Dancing in a Video' for ‘When I Grow Up’ at the MTV Video Music Awards.

GOT TO DANCE! Having fully disbanded in 2010, Kim pursued a plethora of solo projects. Now known for THAT standing overhead leg-split and

As a mum, she says dance is what keeps her connected to her “sassier, sexier self”. “It gives me that lease of life to just live in the moment, connect with the music, and just step away from the everyday routine of motherhood,” she reveals. ”I feel like I’ve got so much to give… whether it’s the philosophy, the empowerment message, the understanding of what it means to dance in heels, kind of tackling an idea of what sexy is and what is means, and the fact that you don’t have to give it away. I love being able to plant seeds that I’ve seen grow within so many dancers throughout this country.” She says she enjoys having a “real purpose”. “Dance is a huge vehicle that allows me to connect and help and inspire, and connect with women who aren’t necessarily dancers but love the Bring Your Heels message, using dance as a tool to help them discover their most authentic empowered selves, so that they can bring that within their everyday lives.”

Come dancing with Kim… in Surrey Locally, Kim and Max have taught a couple of pilot classes for mums at the school. “And there are a few kids locally who have some REAL talent, so I’ve been teaching them. We’re open to all at the moment.” With a desire to start teaching close to home, Kim’s planning to open a new Surrey dance school on site. “It’s nearly finished!” she reveals. “I’m SO excited!

NEWS Max says their new studio is an all-singing-all-dancing multipurpose space. “Just being in there will create new ventures and new things that will come out of it, not to mention the stuff that we already do… Kim’s Bring Your Heels method, the classes we deliver online, my fitness classes… Potentially, if we’re still modelling from home for a little longer, it will become a photo studio, too, so we’re looking forward to that and what happens there.” Turning the tool shed into a cool new dance studio, Max and his Sky Dining (see below) team’s master craftsmen have been busy knocking down walls for another development, documenting the drama as they go. “We’ve used entirelyreclaimed materials to build a little seating area, and used reclaimed windows and doors. We’re so excited to see what develops from it.” “We have the space and the method produced,” Max explains. “Kim usually tours the country with her ‘Bring Your Heels’ method, and dance is such a great way to connect to your local community as well, so we’re really hoping to push that and create a connection to our local community and the people around us, and spread Kim’s love of dance from a local perspective. It would be fantastic if that developed into a local school, based on everything that we’re already doing.”

Going local With an all-singing-all-dancing studio coming to our county soon, Surreyites will shortly be taking their first steps to dance success, or improving their level with the ultimate pro dancer. “With our studio being built at home, we can take a few students, and there are few locations in the area, Foxhills being one of them, with a beautiful studio where we’d like to start teaching regularly, too. It’s really about getting the community together, and perhaps uncovering some untapped dance talent, but also to just get people moving and exercising for their wellbeing, their body, their mind through the power of dance,” says Kim. The overall method is called Kim’s ‘Bring Your Heels' method. “Ironically, heels are optional for those classes, because I teach kids as young as eight!” laughs Kim. “But that class prepares you for a potential career dancing in heels, and it’s also just good fun… from hen do’s to birthday parties, to pro classes and studios… everyone can take something from it.” Kimberly Wyatt Dance is a brand which will teach all manner of dance styles. “And to everybody we can possibly meet! I’ve even taught an old folks’ home over Zoom, and they were all sat in their chairs doing various bits’n’pieces, and again, it’s a similar method that I would teach to the actual pros.” “It’s an incredible thing that Kim’s managed to put together,” beams Max. “And that’s what we want to share in the area from now on, along with Sky Dining…”

Celebrity Masterchef It’s not hard to see how Sky Dining came about… The couple love to cook at home, and always “shop local” when sourcing ingredients. “Another selling point of the area was moving in next to Crockford Bridge farm, which has a pick-your-own field and incredible farm shop,” says Max. “It gives a great sense of community, and is brilliant for teaching the kids where their food comes from. The produce is amazing.” Cooking up a storm on our screens in 2015, his capable spouse clinched THE coveted cookery title when her exceptional culinary skills impressed judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode and won the hearts of the British public, seeing Kim crowned ‘Celebrity Masterchef Champion’, beating fellow

32 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 01

contestants Sam Nixon, Rylan Clark and Scott Maslen to the sought-after trophy. “’Masterchef’ was my kitchen starter kit!” Kim reveals. “I’d just had our first child and had no kitchen confidence, and went on to learn as much as I could. I threw myself into it and am so thankful that I did because I’m now able to make three meals a day for the kids and host and create really lovely meals and flavours. Cooking’s become a real passion since.”

Sky Dining – creating year-round outdoor living Launched during the last lockdown, the pioneering pair are also savouring their new luxury outdoor kitchen business, Sky Dining, taking outdoor Surrey living to a whole new level. “I’ve developed an eye for detail through my modelling and filming work, and also a new-found love of power tools with Sky Dining!” explains Max. “We’ve partnered with a Surrey building firm who are friends of ours to create amazing outdoor kitchen areas.” Whether you want a ground-breaking at-home bar’n’grill area to host with holiday vibes, a place for the man in your life to watch sport with his mates, or an intimate outdoor cinema experience, whatever your wish list, let your imagination run wild with Max, ‘Celebrity Masterchef’ champ Kim and their expert team’s innovative ideas and beautiful bespoke builds.

Their high-end craftsmanship, coupled with inventive ideas, ensures everything you need for a fully-operational kitchen is incorporated in your outdoor kitchen design. Kim famously showcased her Kansas family BBQ rub on TV. “Doing ‘Masterchef’ helped me connect to the things that I loved growing up in the Mid-West of America, which was all about barbeques… barbeques are EVERYTHING... Sundays were all about having barbecues and tailgating for the football games and having your chillies, your barbeque sauces and your briskets and all these lovely foods. Now, barbeques have become a real focus within OUR family, and I’ve got my secret barbeque rub recipe, that I’d like to share with people when the time is right!” “And out of that we’ve developed Sky Dining!” Max divulges. “That was kind of the seed of it all, showing people how that outside lifestyle that Kim loved as a kid can be achieved in THIS country. We can also put a roof on it, just in case! But there’s no reason why we can’t enjoy that same barbeque culture that Kim grew up with here. And that’s the basis of Sky Dining.”

Eco-friendly fashion From their fervour for food to their passion for fashion, with ‘fast fashion’ the planet’s second worst polluter, eco-conscious models Max and Kim make a stand against it whenever they can. “The impact of the disposable nature of fashion cannot be underestimated,” says Max. “It’s an environmental, economic and human rights disaster, which has been expertly covered up by huge marketing budgets.” With young people aspiring to those in the public eye, heavily influenced by their image, the fash pack need to slow down their consumption of clothes, and Kim and Max are calling on others in the spotlight to be seen wearing the same outfits more than once, and encourage their fashionista fans and followers to do the same. “Fast fashion is a HUGE problem,” says Kim. “It’s time to make a stand to encourage people to love and support pre-loved vintage clothes. You have a real relationship with your wardrobe, and you need to buy clothes to wear at least 30 times, because we need to cut down the amount of clothes that we’re sending to landfill.” Along with their role as ambassadors for Cool Earth, the ecofriendly husband and wife are ambassadors and sustainability advisors for George at Asda, which recently found that we don’t wear a whopping 90% of the clothes in our wardrobes.

Saving the planet with Vivienne Westwood X Cool Earth With big names including Cate Blanchett and Joaquin Phoenix joining the anti-throwaway fashion movement, sustainability is still very much a buzzword, with people becoming more conscious

of the fact that fast fashion - and wearing an outfit just once for Instagram – is detrimental to the environment. Playing their part in protecting the planet, the environmentallyconscious couple has also collaborated on a global eco campaign for Cool Earth (@coolearthaction), a charity working with rainforest villages to help halt deforestation and climate change. “It was a privilege to work with Cool Earth and Vivienne Westwood,” says Max. “The work they do is very effective and makes a lot of sense.”

Say ‘no’ to fast fashion! The Surrey power couple recently rocked a sustainable fashion shoot that I arranged with my outstanding photographer Earl (Stephen Santos @wackpaper17photography) and superb Surreybased London Fashion Week designer V from Vz Perfection (@ vzperfection), who has worked with Cool Earth’s Patron, the one-and-only Vivienne Westwood. Kicking off the promo for a star-studded celebrity LFW charity show that I am organising at Surrey’s stunning Horsley De Vere Estate (www.devere.co.uk/horsley-estate) Kim and Max had an absolute ball at this beautiful venue, which featured its famous turrets in ‘The Crown’. “We had a great time!” says Max. “It was really lovely…” “I LOVED doing this shoot!” adds Kim. “I love living in Surrey and discovering gorgeous places like this in Horsley! What a gem… just dripping in elegance and history!”

A sustainable Surrey charity catwalk show Raising awareness of our message to make more responsible choices every day to reduce our environmental impact on our vulnerable planet, the celebrity couple are the stars of the star-studded charity event I am organising at this spectacular Surrey venue, which blew Kim, Max and all of my team away. Our forthcoming celebrity catwalk show with Vz Perfection in aid of Cool Earth already has big names on board supporting our essential #saynotofastfashion message. 7 NATURAL WONDERS OF SURREY

There are so many beautiful sights to see in Surrey, choosing just the top seven was hard pushed. Steeped in history, Surrey first earned its name meaning ‘Suthrige’ or ‘Southern Kingdom’ in the 5th Century by the Saxons. The names of the Saxon tribes still live on in modern place names such as Woking and Godalming. Surrey was largely protected from attacks by the Vikings due to its position inland, however the invaders were defeated by the army of Edward the Elder in 892. (No, we haven’t left off a digit.) Surrey was always considered a strategic point to London and was sought after by many invaders. It has always possessed a beautiful charm and natural heritage. You may not agree but after a reader survey we discovered these 7 places in Surrey to come under the ‘7 Natural Wonders of Surrey.’ Have you seen these stunning, scenery hotspots from Box Hill’s Viewpoint to the legend of Thor at Devil’s Punch Bowl and Mayfield Lavender Farm? If not get them crossed off your list now.

1. TILLINGBOURNE WATERFALLS This hidden gem is tucked away on the Wotton Estate on the north slopes of Leith Hill. While you can’t actually jump in the water as it is located on private land there is a public bridleway nearby that brings you within metres of the waterfall allowing you to soak up the sights and take photographs. Not the easiest to find and you will have to take a short walk to get there, which has been known to get quite waterlogged. So to avoid a really muddy walk the best time to go is when we have not been hit by too much rain. Booking is via their website during lockdown so be sure to book before you arrive. A great time to visit the arboretum is April and May when there is a gorgeous bluebell walk on offer. Winkworth is dog friendly too.

4. DEVIL’S PUNCH BOWL As featured on the TV programme ‘Seven Natural Wonders’ the Punch Bowl is a large natural amphitheatre situated just east to the village of Hindhead. The diversity of nature and beauty of the area has earned it the title of a ‘Site of Scientific Interest’ with the bowl seen as a natural nature reserve encompassing heathland, streams, bracken and woodland. The highest point of the bowl is Gibbet Hill, which is 272 metres above sea level where you can see panoramic views of London’s skyline 38 miles away on a clear day. Local legend has it that the 697 acre site was named ‘Devil’s Punch Bowl’ after the devil threw lumps of earth at Thor, the god of Thunder, to annoy him which then made the hollowed out bowl. A great one for the kids that are into the Marvel Films. Instagram @zehrazem

3. VIRGINIA WATER LAKE Enjoy a beautiful walk around the Virginia Water Lake, located on the edge of Windsor Great Park just off London Road and the A30. FEATURES 5. MAYFIELD LAVENDER FARM The purple haze that hovers over Mayfield lavender Farm in Banstead is truly unbelievable. It is a definite must visit place in Surrey. Plus, the story behind the farm is truly inspirational. The brainchild of former Wella Managing Director Brendan Maye to promote failing lavender sales at sister brand Yardley, the farm was eventually bought (after years of rejection from Wella’s head honchos and perseverance by Maye) by charity Bio Regional and Wella with Brendan Maye as a financial guarantor in 2002. Fast forward 19 years and the farm is still going strong – providing lavender to a host of national and international brands. It is a natural tourist site and open to the public. Entry is only £4 for adults and free for kids. Plus, there is onsite free parking.

Waverley Abbey was the very first monastery founded in Britain by the reforming Cistercian religious order. A small group of monks from France settled in this quiet spot by the River Wey in 1128 near Farnham. Waverley and the area of natural beauty soon became the springboard for Cistercian settlement in southern England. The impressive remains include the fine 13th century vaulted refectory or dining hall for the lay brothers, the Cistercians' labour force. In more recent times, the Abbey and beautiful surrounding fields have been used as a backdrop to the films ‘Elizabeth’ (1998) and Disney's ‘Into the Woods’ (2014).

7. BOX HILL & STEPPING STONES Box Hill is the summit of the North Downs in Dorking and is 224 metres high at the Betchworth Clump. The western part of the hill is owned by the National Trust and the most popular viewpoint Salomon’s Memorial overlooks the town of Dorking at 172 metres. It’s a great place to visit with kids as there are detailed adventure walks to do as well as having cafes, restaurants and ice cream vans for visitors to enjoy on their trip. There is also 38 species of butterfly and both the north and south facing slopes support an area of chalk downland noted for its orchid and other rare plant life. There are great picture opportunities here too for budding photographers, as well as the beautiful summit views there is an upside down grave and World War 2 bunkers and lookouts. Plus, at the foot of the hill there is another National Trust car park that leads to the famous ‘Stepping Stone’ formation of rocks across the river pictured here.

ZARA LARR

RSON – MILLENIAL GIRL Z

ara is poster girl for the Millenial generation – at only 23 – she is feisty, honest and speaks out about issues and has the platform on which to do it with millions of followers and a multi-platinum pop career spanning over a decade.

LUSH LIFE Zara Maria Larrson was born on December 16, 2007 and at the age of only 10 she competed in and won ‘Talang’, the Swedish version of ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’ While that bought her notoriety in Sweden and 500 SWK (€50,000), Zara confesses she thought her career was over before it had even begun as she had to wait till 14 to get signed by a major record label. “I was still pretty stressed out, but the older I got, the more relaxed I felt. When I was younger, I thought life was over by 25. But now I’ve kind of realised that life begins at 25.” We would have to argue that sentiment. In 2016 the ‘Lush Life’ singer had 3 singles in the top 40, a number 1 in 8 countries and had already performed with a list of artists like the VIP guest list to an NME party including Ty Dollar, Tinie Tempah, MNEK. She has collaborated with Clean Bandit in hit song ‘Symphony’ which she co-wrote with Ed Sheeran in album So Good. Plus, to date she has notched up two MTV Music Awards, a Kid’s Choice Award and a Brit Award nomination for British Single of the Year in 2017 for ‘Girl’s Like’ with Tinie Tempah. Time Magazine also listed her as among the “30 Most Influential Teens” in the world in their poll. And all this while still studying at school. This year, Zara hated “lockdown” so much she even considered giving up music altogether. Luckily for fans, she persevered and is releasing ‘Poster Girl’ a 12-track album of disco-heavy tracks featuring Atlanta rapper Young Thug and Swedish maestro Max Martin – the album deals with “kind of knowing what I want but at the same time definitely not,” she reveals.

COURAGE Part of Zara’s edge comes with her strong beliefs and the fact she is totally prepared to air them. She has always been vocal about issues close to her heart. “Both my parents are very educated and when it comes to me speaking about social issues and about what’s going on in the world, they’ve been very supportive,” she says. So, who has crossed Zara’s path exactly? Well for starters there’s men in general! A self-proclaimed feminist, after learning a man had committed a sexual assault on a woman during her set at Bravalla Festival in July 2016, Larrson went onto her social media to not only condemn

the act but what was seen by many as her “blaming all men for the attack.” “F*** you who shamelessly raped a girl in the audience. You deserve to burn in hell. F*** you for making girls feel insecure when they go to a festival. I hate guys. Hate hate hate.” Strong words indeed. Zara also recently posted a picture of her on social media with a condom on her leg, criticising men who refuse to wear them because they are “too big”. A move that won her praise from anti-teen pregnancy groups. “It was a bold move, but it definitely got the message across,” one campaigner said. Talking about her strong opinions, Larrson was honest enough to admit that her “man-hater” label is actually well deserved and explains her views. “Women are oppressed because of men. It's not a

complete lie. People focusing on me being a man-hater is irrelevant, in my opinion. Who cares if I don't like men as a group? It's not a problem, it doesn't hurt anyone. I'm upset because the world hates women. Women are being raped by men, accused, murdered, harassed, discriminated. It's a natural reaction to be upset.” Zara has also bated Donald Trump, singer Dr Luke and even rapper Chris Brown whom she said, “I think he is very talented, but I won’t support him because he is an asshole.” Brown was arrested in 2009 for assaulting then girlfriend Rihanna. While Zara’s comments have catapulted her further into the public eye (and not always in a positive light) she is the first to admit, in typical millennial style, that she really doesn’t care. She would rather be honest about her views and have no fans then keep her views supressed and have millions of fans. Although you may not agree with Zara’s feisty leftfield beliefs - it is brave of her to be that strongly convicted to them that she would sacrifice her career over her silence.

WHAT NEXT Zara is pleased with her latest album ‘Poster Girl’ and is set to tour in November 2021. She has already signalled she is back in the studio working on the her third studio album which will have more disco beats like the ‘So Good’ album that catapulted her to stardom. “I’m on my way, but I’m not even close to where I want to be. I want to sell out stadium after stadium. I want to make multi-platinum records… I think I’ll always have a hunger for more. That’s just the person I am.”

SUPERCARS

Feel the need for speed?!! Talking torque, we have narrowed down the best supercars on the market from hypercars to electric concepts of the future and one-off restorations – here is some of the most anticipated, innovative and sublime metal that you could ever get your hands on.

Bugatti Divo The French luxury brand pulled the cover off its newly developed, track-ready hypercar: the Divo. One-upping the Chiron is no easy task, but Bugatti has triumphed in just that. The general mission statement for the Divo encompasses agility, nimbleness and ‘optimum handling on track’ - taking a clear step forward from the company’s foregoing ethos that has previously pushed the hypercar manufacturer towards outright tomahawklike levels of acceleration and straight line speed. The Divo is powered by Bugatti’s signature 8 litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine with a power output of a monstrous 1479hp. In addition, the Divo is both 35kg lighter and produces 90kg more downforce than the preceding Chiron. Its maximum speed is now ‘limited’ to a physics-defying 380 km/h. Bugatti has already confirmed the Divo will be built in a very limited run of only 40 vehicles. Upon the start of presentations to selected potential

customers, the strictly limited series, with a net unit price of £5 million, sold out immediately - making owners’ club brunch dates a highly exclusive affair.

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ The SVJ offers some stunning new weight saving measures, sharp aerodynamics and that massive rear wing over your ‘standard’ Aventador, and has some scorching numbers to back it up. The SVJ offers extraordinary levels of performance through a naturally aspirated 12-cylinder, 6.5-litre engine that’s good for 770hp and 531 ft lb of torque. That’s right - all that power, without any forced induction. Lamborghini claims 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top-end velocity of 349km/h. Putting power down through all four wheels and with a kerb weight of only 1525kg, the SVJ is a potent track-bred weapon. Lamborghini in the UK are selling from £270,000 – a damn sight cheaper than the Bugatti Divo. They have only produced 900 of them so getting one could be gold dust though.

Audi PB18 e-Tron Audi gave us all a fascinating look into the future, unveiling the PB18 E-Tron concept. Boasting some futuristic styling, Audi’s electrifying prototype showcases some autonomous motoring tech, as well as staggering theoretical performance figures. They claim 0-100km/h can be reached in just over 2 seconds. And all without a combustion motor in sight – drawing power from a three e-motor setup: one on the front axle and two on the rear. As for the styling, the PB18 literally puts the driver front and centre – offering the interchangeable ability for a two seat cabin or a central driving position when ‘track mode’ is engaged. And who doesn’t love a shootingbrake rear end? That allows this all-electric super-wagon to offer some 470 litres of practical boot space - That’s the same as a Peugeot 308! Audi is on a roll with it’s electric car offering the E-Tron & E-Tron Sportback. The German car maker has noted 3,474 deliveries already in 2021 Q1, 103% more than a year ago – making total E-Tron sales to just over 15,000. This marks the biggest jump in Audi electric cars now making 7.9% of the total Audi volume.

Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow Mercedes all-electric, retro-racer supercar the EQ Silver Arrow and wow this is a futuristic, beautiful looking machine. The Silver Arrow offers a unique look into the future whilst offering homage to the past. Clearly influenced by the aerodynamic single-seater racers of the 1930’s and 40’s, under the streamlined carbon-silhouette of this sleek new concept is an exclusively-electric powertrain fed by an 80kWh battery that produces 750hp. Mercedes also claims it to be good for a 400km range. No performance numbers were given by the manufacturer, but we don’t think that takes anything away from this gorgeous looking concept car.

BMW Z4 Bringing us back a little closer to present-day, more roadworthy supercars, BMW’s Z4 M40i First Edition has to get a mention. BMW has given their flagship roadster a thorough redesign inside and out, but has kept the pure and virtuous sports car formula that has made previous renditions of the Z4 so popular. The improved roadster boasts more agility, precision and dynamic handling characteristics than ever before; this is thanks to a perfectly balanced axle load distribution of 50:50. Under the Z4’s ‘Frozen Orange Metallic’ hood sits a potent 344hp straight six-cylinder engine - allowing the perfectly balanced and nimble two-seater to sprint from standing to 100km/h is a mere 4.6 seconds. The BMW Z4 First Edition has a limited run of 444 units worldwide but can be purchased from BMW retailers nationwide, for a hefty price tag starting at £75,000 mind you.

COUGARS

M

adonna is 63, her boyfriend is 27, Courtney Cox is 57, her fiancé is 45; Tina Turner is 81, her boyfriend is 65; Katy Price is 42, her boyfriend is 31, Mariah Carey is 51 and her boyfriend is 39, Sharon Stone is 63 and her boyfriend is 25.

Still single? Relax, your boyfriend might not have even been born yet! Today these older women have been labelled as ‘cougars’ in relation to the mountain lion, as though they are wild animals with no self-control. But this is arguably not true; today women like Tina Turner and Courtney Cox have actually developed long term and loving relationships with their younger partners. Madonna’s most recent flame has tipped her previously biggest age gap of 30 years with Timor

Steffens, by dating 27-year-old Ahlamalik Williams – 36 years her junior. While the couple have been recently holidaying in Italy for the ‘Material Girl’s’ 63rd birthday putting on a lot of PDA’s, they were in fact first linked back in 2019 when Williams was her backing dancer and they were spotted cosying up together in a Miami nightclub. Whether you approve or not approve, Madonna’s 3 kids seemed happy their Mum’s much younger boyfriend joined them on the recent trip. While Williams has yet to publicly comment on his relationship with Madonna, his predecessor Steffens revealed that the age gap never affected them. “There is an age gap between me and Madonna but I don’t notice it. My girlfriends have always been older than me and that’s how I like it. I learn a lot!” he claimed. Although we are certain Mr Steffens is aware that learning isn’t the only plus side of dating an older woman. Chances are she is not new to the dating

scene and will wow you with her knowledge, experience and confidence. Maybe this is why cougar relationships are becoming so de rigeur today. Courtney Cox, Mariah Carey and Tina Turner have even married their younger men. So unless mountain lions are known to settle down in loving monogamous relationships, I don’t think the name ‘cougar’ sufficiently applies to these women. Plus, if women from any age have the confidence to get out there and embrace their sexuality then why shouldn’t they? It has been argued that it is even empowering for females to see that age does not stop you from being beautiful and appreciated.

GOING THE DISTANCE But the question is, does the dramatic age difference end in disaster? Unfortunately, for many couples it all did end in tears. For instance, Madonna has had three failed relationships with men at least 20 years younger than her. These include Jesus Luz, Brahim Zaibit and Timor Steffens.

Demi Moore at the age of 51, Demi married the 35-year-old star Ashton Kutcher in 2005. Ashton even converted to Kabbalah, the form of Judaism that Demi practiced (how romantic). Nonetheless, eight years later it also ended in divorce. "I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi,” Kutcher posted on Twitter at the time. “Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world, and unfortunately sometimes they fail.” It can be seen as very telling that Kutcher moved onto someone his own age after the divorce. Back in 2012 he married Mila Kunis - at the age of 31 she was six years younger than Kutcher. So, what makes some cougar relationships so unsuccessful? Askmen.com has said it is the baggage of an older women: ex-husbands, children, business pressures and debts. Also the judgement men receive from people such as their bosses and family for dating much older women. This was definitely the case for One Direction´s Harry Styles, who was getting loads of bad press for dating older women such as TV presenter Caroline Flack and U.S. comedian Erin Foster. He was even given the name ‘cougar catcher’ by Hollywood Life.

SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 1

FEATURES On the plus side, I’m sure Harry has upped his sales with hopeful housewives since his interest in older women has been revealed. In fact, when interviewed for an online gossip magazine, Harry admitted that he’s seen daughters bury their heads into their hands in humiliation, whilst the mothers try and flirt with him at concerts.

But what about MOUGARS?! Yes that’s right! Male cougars or Mougars are out there in force too nowadays. In fact, this February Stephen Fry (aged 57) got married to the 27-year-old Elliot Spencer. “We're very much in the honeymoon stage still. I'm dizzy with delirium and ditzy with dippiness,” Mr Fry said. “It's really thrilling; in Chaucerian English I'm bathing in a bath of bliss, it's just great.” At 51 years old, Jay Z is 12 years older than his beautiful wife Beyoncé. David Hasselhoff is 27 years older than his girlfriend Hayley Roberts - she is almost half his age. But people barely blink an eye at these relationships. It is definitely a one-way street of judgement when it comes to ‘cougaring’. Even on TV today we see ‘cougars’ presented as wild, uncontrollable predators. Take Cougar Town for example, the

series that Courtney Cox stars in. She plays an older mother with a teenage son and is shown to ruthlessly search for younger men as sexual conquests. At one point she even eyes up a young man with the words, “I’d love to lick his body”. Unfairly women are perceived as doing something wrong in the media when in actual fact they are just enjoying normal, healthy relationships, with men that happen to be a bit younger than them.

THE ORIGINAL COUGAR However, it seems men’s interest in older women officially began after Finch landed Stiffler’s mum, Jeanine, on top of a pool table in the film American Pie. Finch was congratulated afterwards, as though it was an achievement of some sort. In addition, the phrase MILF (standing for ‘mother I’d like to f***’), also became well known after its frequent use in the hit film. Therefore, it could be argued that the American Pie franchise is what kickedstarted men’s obsession with mothers and older women. Now there are dating sites specifically aimed towards ‘cougars’. After researching we can even provide you with a top five. First we have OlderWomenDating.com - yes I’m serious. Followed by AgeMatch.com, KissCougar.com, CougarLife. com and finally Cougared.com. On most of these sites you will find that the men are named ‘cubs’, which I’m sure implies sweet, innocent and vulnerable…? Overall we think it is very clear that there are two types of cougars today. We have seen those who have actually fallen into a committed loving relationships. So we don’t see why they should be judged in anyway. Then the others are just after one night flings, and don’t see why they should settle for the old if they can get the new. Fair enough, right? SOLVING THE BIG PROBLEM WITH SMALL FASHION

P

etite Edits is a one-stop online shop for women 5’3” and under, of any body shape or size. Unfortunately, most regular sized clothing is measured on women 5’6” – 5’7” which means the length, hem, bust dart position, rise, shoulders, hip and waist, knee position on garments do not sit on the right places for petite women. For far too long women of 5’3” and under have had to make do with ill-fitting clothes or expensive alterations. Thankfully in the last couple of years, a handful of established brands and independent designers have recognised the gap in the market and have started offering petite sizes. Petite Edits aims to bring together all of these in one place to take away the hassle of navigating across several websites giving petite women a wealth of choice so that petite women can stop compromising style over fit. So far, Petite Edits hosts 1000 plus current and on trend petite pieces of clothing from more than 45 designers and brands including ASOS, Boden, Hobbs and Karen Millen.

ABOUT PETITE EDITS This is Roshna, the petite (5’1”) driving force behind Petite Edits. Many years back she worked in banking and finance in the City. Naturally, Roshna wanted to look and feel good in what she was wearing. However, this seemed to be elusive!

MAKING THE CUT Here’s Petite Edits guide to why choosing petite fashion is so important to find the right cut and fit of clothing.

Photos by Aurora Lyddon

“I could not quite figure out why I was struggling so much with finding the right clothes, but back then I didn’t pay too much attention and carried on just ‘making do’,” she explains. “Years later, clarity and the scale of the problem dawned on me, when I had moved towards founding and running a retro-inspired clothing boutique in London. I witnessed thousands of women in all beautiful shapes and sizes – talking to them, styling them and discussing the fit on ready-made clothes. I realised more than 50% of the women who bought from us seemed to be 5’3’’ or under in height – and officially this is regarded as petite. After years of having fun running the boutique and learning so much in the process, I then worked in the Marks & Spencer’s womenswear for a year, which further confirmed what I had already known from my experience from the boutique. Even though us petites are spending the same amount of money to buy clothing; we are either having to spend more time and money for alterations or accepting the ill-fitting clothes and making do. Since, availability of petite sizes is not common knowledge among the consumers - most brands do not provide enough retail floor space to petite sizes.” Luckily, the online market and awareness for petite sizes has been steadily growing for the past couple of years. Today, there are some of the most well-known brands and independent designers offering products for petite women. However, product offering from individual brands are still limited to a handful of styles and often lack visibility over regular sized products. “So, here I am today, with petiteedits.com,” Roshna adds. “My company pools together available petite clothing from many brands in one place so us petites have choices too. Petite Edits is born out of my personal frustration over the years and is very close to my heart. I wish a similar platform had already existed when I was spending so much time scouring different brands and their websites to find clothes that fit.”

BEAUTY FEATURE

k so when I first thought about the idea of having make-up actually tattooed on my face 5 years ago, I ran a mile. I’m not going to lie the thought of the pain or the procedure going wrong filled me with dread. Fast forward five years and I have read so many reviews, from busy working mums like myself, I started to think that it may be something I’d reconsider.Having met Marina at Icon Style Beauty in Cobham and read her client testimonials and 5 star reviews I knew I was in safe hands. The procedure was fully explained: that semi-permanent make-up, in particular the top eyelid eyeliner that I vigilantly apply every day in make-up form, only permeates through the top layers of the skin and therefore will fade over time in semi-permanent make-up form. Five years was guaranteed, and more years were likely. It is hard to gauge because it depends on skin type, although having seen the result NOW I would happily commit to a lifetime. So, I turned up to Icon style Beauty with a little bit of anxiety, bearing in mind I was sworn off this procedure that was offered for free on numerous occasions as my time as a beauty editor in Marbella, Marina rest assured I didn’t have to have it done if I was nervous about pain and results. I bit the bullet and am so glad I did. The whole treatment took just over an hour – did not hurt in the slightest (sometimes it tickled which was nice) as Marina applied numbing cream on the area every 5 minutes or so and did the eyeliner, I apply everyday exactly to my picture and request requirement. It was not too thick, too thin, no signs of a cat eye tick – that I use on weekend make-up - and will add to my everyday look

when I have the need to. Again as requested. Walking away as a happy customer I was warned of swelling, luckily there was none. I was instructed to apply cream to the area twice a day and to not wear mascara for one week otherwise continue my normal daily routine. Funnily enough the eyeliner looks so good I haven’t even needed to apply mascara 3 weeks on after having the procedure! I may have been blessed with thicker eyelashes than most but equally blessed with meeting Marina! The best feeling about my decision to go with semipermanent make-up has been my trips to the gym, summer weather and times in the pool. NO MORE PANDA EYES. It was a hot and humid day last week; I left the house at 8.30am and my eyeliner (I used to wear an expensive Clarins one) normally would have started to crack or run in the heat by midday. But my eyes looked amazing. I have saved myself at £28 - a lifetime of eyeliner (here’s hoping!) and the time and effort it takes to put on is at least 10 minutes a day with corrections, drying and inevitable smudging. I am over the moon with the results and cannot thank Marina at Icon Style Beauty enough. If you are thinking of semi-permanent make-up do your full research first. There are rogue aesthetic traders out there too. Marina at Icon Style Beauty is the best in business and offers: l Eyeliner l Microblading l Eyebrow l Lip Contour l Lip Blush

GASTRONOMY

THE RIND Bringing the British modern sharing plate concept to Surrey. The Rind has established itself in South West London as the go-to wine bar for excellent cheese and wine pairing. Luckily for us Surrey Residents, Rind opened in Leatherhead in June 2021. Since their inauguration the place has been buzzing. This gem of a cheese and wine Bar serves delicious British cheeses but also Dorset cured meat and signature dishes such as Truffled grilled thyme and garlic aubergines, Cheese Toastie, Pequillo peppers & Spicy nudja sausage, goose rillette, Tartiflette to name a few - with a fantastic selection of wine to accompany selected from their head sommelier. One of the best things about Rind we have to say is their ethos. They are fun, sociable and a great time is had by all guests. The sharing plate concept is one that echoes their ethos. Order plates and break bread with friends gorging on Baked Camembert and delicious food and fine wine. Prices range from £5 for a glass up to £50 - every discerning wine taster is catered for.

OUR EXPERIENCE We were Rind Virgins on arrival. As much as we love wine our wine pairing capabilities were limited, thank god for our sommelier. We ordered the cheese platter to sample the best cheeses on the menu. Our sommelier recommended the Greek Sweet Wine with the cheese board because the sugar in the wine helps cut the fat and

coating of the cheese, thereby allowing the flavours of the cheese and wine to open up. It was divine. Next up was the Baked Camembert which came with a Fig Chutney, Honey Glaze and Sourdough bread for dunking. It was explosive, sweet and baked to perfection – the cheese was oozing. This was paired with the Georgian Amber Wine, the savoury style of the wine with it’s sharp acidity went so well with the rustic style of the cheese dish. Our final plate was the Ham Hock which was served with renegade Wines Josh Red Wine, the sour red cherry and nutmeg with the fresh acidity works with the Hock and Parfit perfectly. It has to be said the food was of the finest quality there was no fat on the Hock and it was as succulent as they come.

RIND OFFERS Rind are well known for their great offers. Wine Tuesdays are a buy one, get one free on all glasses of wine and bottles every Tuesday. Wednesdays are Fondue Nights in Autumn/Winter and you can enjoy a great meal for under £15 per person. £20 every other night for fondue! RESTAURANT REVIEW

FIREAWAY PIZZA The fastest growing pizza company in the UK, Fireaway serves 12-inch Artisan pizzas with a choice of 4 bases and fresh, unlimited toppings. Its like Subway, but 10 times better. You can have your pizza topped with literally anything your heart desires. And at no extra charge as every pizza comes in at £9.99 regardless of toppings. Choose from sweet or savoury too (Nutella is divine!) and enjoy your pizza cooked in 180 seconds in their 400° pizza oven. A spectacle to watch if you get there in time as the oven can blast up to 8 pizzas at a time and stretches the width of their vast 25-strong toppings counter.

OUR EXPERIENCE We were on our way home from Top Golf in Addlestone and called in for 6 pizzas for a group of very hungry kids at 6.30pm. On arrival 10 minutes later, all the pizzas were ready.

94 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 01

RESTAURANTFASHION REVIEW

The toppings were confusing enough not to mention the different bases but on arrival all 6 pizzas were exactly to our specifications. Perfect order! There was not one missing ingredient on any pizza…. Fireaway had delivered. (Even though that night we collected!) Tasting the pizza when we got home was a hard job, but someone had to do it. As the kids and their friends tucked in, stepping up to the plate I made sure I had a slice of each. The garlic oil base with extra cheese, vegetables, mushrooms and sweetcorn was so amazing. Swapping the traditional tomato base, I wasn’t sure would work, but it did and made for a wholly different and enticing meal. Next up was the classic Pepperoni Pizza. I don’t know about you but if I get 8 slices of pepperoni or less from a pizza restaurant I go a bit skitz. Counting the slices there were 18. Double what Dominos delivers, and 10 times healthier as a thinner base - plus half the price. SOLD! Next up was a Meat Feast that had a BBQ base. The sweetness of the BBQ sauce counteracted the meat toppings so made this pizza one of my favourites. There was chicken, bacon, ham and pepperoni as well as extra cheese and chilli. The chilli’s weren’t really to my liking so couldn’t finish this one - but looking at my 14-year-old’s friend who ordered this – think maybe this was done on purpose so they had it all?!!

TWO SCOOPS OF FIRE I was so pleasantly surprised by the Nutella Pizza. There were lashings of latticed Nutella chocolate spread and finished off

with white chocolate sauce, strawberries and bananas. Delicious. There’s also an amazing Calzone folded Nutella pizza to try that’s similar. If dessert pizza is not your thing, Fireaway Surrey has recently opened a waffle, crepe, milkshake and icecream section to their restaurant. Cutely named ‘Two Scoops of Fire’ it is the ultimate for kids and any adult with a sweet tooth. A selection of 30 ice-creams in any flavour with freshly cooked waffles and milkshakes in 20 different flavours. There is so much to choose from and they are simply divine.

IN SUMMARY Fireaway has established it’s reputation as the fastest growing pizza company in the UK for one reason alone: fresh, healthy, delicious, affordable pizzas. Our ultimate favourite is Fireaway in East Molesey as the staff and reputation proceeds itself. Maria, the owner, is always there and goes that extra mile for her adoring customers. Walk-ins accepted or collect via their website, delivery, Uber Eats and Deliveroo. We hope you enjoy as much as we do!

O

lá from sunny Portugal where we are currently holidaying. Like many people this has been the first time we have been abroad in about a year and a half, boy does it feel good! Before kids, holidays would consist of lie ins, lounging by the pool, dinners and cocktails. With young children, this proves to be somewhat tricky. What I’ve realised is you can make it work if you want to. Life is short and the memories you create are all worth the blood, sweat and tears! Talking of sweat and tears (no blood thankfully!) getting to Portugal was a rather interesting experience. My husband had a stag booked so I met him out there with our 1 and 3-year-old. Flying solo was not easy, but we made it.

Here are my top tips: Pack a spare outfit. You don’t want your little one to be wandering around topless like a hooligan (yes that happened to me). Be clever with the toys you choose - they don’t need much, and no tiny pieces that you will end up picking from all over the floor. Something new is always entertaining. A big hit for us was a kids camera I bought on Amazon for £11.99. Sticker books - what kid doesn’t love stickers?! iPads and headphones are a must. Yes, I was one of those people that prior to kids said I would never let my child have an iPad. That is now in fact, me. On a plane I will do just about anything to keep them quiet. Snacks, lots of snacks. Whatever you think you might

need, triple it! I would consider myself a hotel snob, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. My absolute favourite group of hotels has to be Belmond. I just love everything about them, the location, history and of course, the food. My top picks would be Le Manoir, Grand Hotel Timeo and Splendido Portofino. When the kids have grown up I would love to ride the Andean explorer to Peru. Somewhere that has a special place in our hearts is Dubai. I have been going to Dubai for the last 17 years. There’s something about the Arabian charm that lures you in. My favourite hotels are the One & Only Palm (without kids) and Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf. Staying in Madinat Jumeirah is a great option because there is so much to do. You can get around in traditional Abra boats which is so fun. There is a multitude of restaurants and kids under 4 eat free. In contrast to the glitz and glam of Dubai, we love heading to Scotland. The beauty of the land speaks for itself. The road that takes you to Glen Etive is a must as it leads to the most stunning views where they filmed part of Skyfall. Wherever you are in the world, the feeling of togetherness and family bonding, is something very special. Look forward to catching up with you all next month.

SEPTEMBER 2021

ROCKS ASTROLOGY FORECAST Aries

Gemini

Leo

21 MAR – 20 APR

22 MAY – 21 JUNE

24 JULY – 23 AUG

Taurus

Cancer

Virgo

21 APR – 20 MAY

22 JUNE – 23 JULY

24 AUG – SEPT 3

September dictates you focus on the details, Aries. Rush and you could miss something important. The same applies to personal affairs. Is that friendship crying out for some TLC? Or are you so busy you’re missing the subtext behind what your significant other is trying to say? Slow down if you want to avoid misunderstandings this month. The same goes for that potential boyfriend/girlfriend. Sure, ruler Mars is heating up your partnership zone later in the month. That puts you in the hot zone. The other party however? Cher once said: Women get all excited over nothing - then they marry him. Go for the slow burn it will pay off in the long run.

That call to escape the daily drudge gets an answer at the start of the second week of the month, Taurus. Rise and shine as the new Moon along with ruler Venus opens a door to sensual escapism and romance. Others could see that Instagram feed act like a cosmic wishlist. If you don’t want to attract attention, then this simply isn’t the month for you. Applying for that covert ops position with a ‘certain government agency’? A no-no. The grand design of this month is that you stand out in some way. Once ruler Venus lands in your sector of partnerships and long term loves on the 10th, the only undercover position that could be yours is the under-the-300-threadcount kind. You won’t be working alone, Taurus!

106 SURREYROCKS | ISSUE 01

Your love zone stays hot even as we head towards fall, Gemini. At least right up until the 27th when things may slow down as ruler Mercury turns retrograde. Don’t panic if you are suddenly faced with radio silence from that boo. Babies, children, teenagers or simply the generation below yours could provide high points this month. But if the patter of little feet isn’t part of your plan at the moment, take extra precautions. September favours getting away from it all if you can. Or if not escapism via a hobby, creative pursuit or pastime. Watch cares fall away and the real you emerge once more. Pursuing what you love to do gets your noticed in all the right ways now. There’s no need to chase after love. Allow it to find you.

Focus on the small stuff and September wants you to know it’s all small stuff, Cancer. Taking care of the business of life is a full-time occupation, that’s for sure. This month offers an opportunity for you to design one that runs far more smoothly. Simply by looking at those habits, routines, diet, exercise (or lack thereof), your day job (paid or unpaid), studies and your everyday environment. This is your call to climate change as in what you surround yourself with, do, fuel your body, think and organise your life. Don’t overlook the importance of all of this and its impact on other areas. It’s all connected. This is a great month to get a health check, eat better, workout more, quit the boxset addiction, look at how ‘vibes’ at work or with certain people affect you, and to declutter.

Hate the word ‘budget’, Leo? Meh. How about ‘spending plan’ instead? Like it or not, your money’s in focus this month. What you make, where it goes and on what. It’s not just about how much of the folding stuff you have, but your beliefs around it. An audit around your money scripts – and yes, we all have them, may uncover what that subconscious belief is around the folding stuff. If you want to plant some new ones then they take root after the 7th. Try to bring anything to do with cash or commerce – this includes that side hustle as well as your day gig, to a stage where you can launch or let it go by the end of the month. At that point you’ll be spinning your wheels on work plans until mid-October. Taking control of your financial destiny adds up to increased self-worth.

Someone or something which looked full of promise may have stalled or fallen off the grid. Sure, that’s not what you were expecting or even wanting. Especially during your birthday cycle. Isn’t this the one time when everything’s supposed to flow your way? If this occurs, don’t panic and simply party on. Chances are the Mercury retrograde scheduled for later this month will redeliver. The new Moon in your sign on the 7th could bring an opportunity to move in a fresh direction so you won’t feel the lack of attention or loss. However, do ensure someone close to you isn’t feeling left out. A little TLC staves off hurt feelings. Remember, a party of two sounds so much better than a party of one.

Your birthday cycle puts you in ‘No Limits’ mode. You know what you want and are determined to let nothing stand in your way. You’ve most likely been in this mindset since last month and taking steps to make things happen. Just take it plans get turbo-charged from the 15th. This new you has a little bit extra and is way more daring. You’re prepared to go one step further than you may have done in the past to make it happen. Or even make the first move. You’ll push the envelope when it comes to what you think you can get away with. No request for you is too bold. No move too outrageous. Funny thing right up until the end of the month, most people you meet should say yes. Then – slow down.

Your social life soars from the 7th and your love life sizzles after the 10th. Dynamic duos and double acts feature. There are plenty of opportunities to ‘Be Two’ for singles. This could just as easily be that new BFF, activity partner, collaborator or work duet. Of course, if you’re single and seeking you need to put yourself out there so that meet-cute can happen. Whether this is online or a real world love act this is waiting to happen. What September tells you is nobody achieves anything alone. This month could deliver connections that may offer a major assist towards that goal. Whatever you do – don’t judge a book by its cover. Your social or romantic life may hit a speed bump at the end of the month, although you may welcome the down-shift, simply to recharge.

Where does the magic happen, Sag? Answer: Outside your comfort zone. Good thing you are the sign associated with exploration, adventure and going boldly. From the 15th you’re into fresh territory when it comes to chasing down new connections or opportunities. However, you won’t take kindly to anyone who rains on that parade or tells you it simply can’t be done. Bear in mind that sometimes we need to treat our goals like toddlers. In other words, we don’t let them run off alone until they’re all grown up. So, be prepared to leave the familiar behind and even gain entrance to new social circles. Someone may be in a position to help grant a wish. But choose who you share those dreams with wisely until they are fully formed.

Fierce. Confident. Determined. That’s you this September, Capricorn. You are the sign of the long game. Once you commit, you’re in for the long haul. And this month could put the goal within reach. You’re on the radar when it comes to those in high places – bosses, authority figures, influencers, VIP’s. Your image and reputation is everything now, so guard it. I’m not just talking professionally but online or in your personal life. So, monitor your social media feed carefully because someone you want to impress could be doing the same. People may be watching to see if you belong ‘up there’ with them. That promotion or job could hang in the balance. Time to bring it, Cappy. You’ve worked long and hard for this.

Mergers and acquisitions both of the financial and the strictly personal kind could require a definitive Yes or No answer now. Joint or shared resources or assets – your salary as this is shared by your employer, loans, maintenance payments and benefits, the joint account, the mortgage, the marital home or even who takes out the trash could be up for negotiation. If you are in a position where you handle other people’s resources – anything from their money to their talent, please be upfront and transparent. The goal posts may shift when it comes to you and someone else. And you’re not the one who moved them. You may need to make it clear exactly where the buck stops if so, Aquarius, be forthright and stand your ground.

Way back in the early 70’s, Marc Bolan and glam rock band T. Rex released a single called ‘Hot Love’. A melange of mystical, sexy, witchy lyrics that fit right into that Pisces vibe for those of you not old enough to remember. ‘Hot Love’ is most definitely your anthem on Spotify this month, so get your glam on, Pisces. Thanks to a rush of planets in your long-term love zone. Settled Pisceans revive the heady attraction of early dating. Singles feel the swipe or even discover the next crush in the supermarket line. Others discover what they love to do delivers the love of a bigger audience. To quote a movie line this time from 2003: If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.

Brit actor Craig Fairbrass - famous for playing Dan Sullivan in ‘EastEnders’ and Pat Tate in ‘Rise of the Footsoldier’ - is back filming the popular Footsoldier franchise. Rocks Mag caught up with the 6ft 3inch hard nut to find out about the new film, what it’s like to work with Sly Stallone, on set high jinxes and his likes and dislikes.

CRAIG FAIRBRASS WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND ‘RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER: ORIGINS’  Tony Tucker comes back from the Falklands War and unites with “the firm”, his Essex underworld life is explained against the backdrop of the 1980’s rave scene. The money, power, drugs and violence and the trappings that come with it answers many of the questions not explained in the previous films. IS THIS THE LAST OR IS THERE MORE TO COME? Can’t say. WE FIRST MET IN MARBELLA, FILMING FOOTSOLDIER 4, WHERE YOU SAID IT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE, IS THAT STILL TRUE? Always glad to be back in Marbella haven’t missed a year since I was 5. I like to travel a lot and have been lucky enough to been all around the world filming and even with our other holidays, we always find time to get back for a bit every year. I’ve got some great friends out here and some very fond memories over the years plus I love the Spanish people, their way of life, food and not forgetting the Ribera Del Duero vino.:) IT LOOKS OBVIOUS FROM YOUR RECENT (I MUST SAY HILARIOUS) CARPOOL KARAOKE THAT YOU AND THE BOYS HAVE A LOT OF FUN OFF CAMERA? We were trapped on a low loader filming all the Range Rover driving scenes in one hit and once you get on you can’t get off, I started singing about my line from FS1 - “we’re talking about cheese ya cunt” and that turned into a song that was born in a moment of boredom and madness.- that went viral hitting a million views in under 24 hours. WHO IS THE BIGGEST JOKER? Terry, he doesn’t stop, he drives me mad sometimes as I take it all very serious when working I can’t help it, but he’s a great energy to have around. WHAT HAS BEEN THE FUNNIEST ON SET WIND UP? I’ve lost track there have been so many especially on the night shoots.

YOU STARRED OPPOSITE SYLVESTOR STALLONE IN ‘CLIFFHANGER’ WHAT WAS HE LIKE TO WORK WITH? Yeah it was massive experience I will never forget. I’ve always been a Stallone fan and the job was a dream come true. I’ve got so much admiration and respect for him and he was very nice to work with. It’s funny as I also worked with a lot of the new action guys coming through - Dave Bautista, Jason Statham, Scott Adkins. Randy Couture but Stallone is that one off iconic action legend. AND IF YOU COULD SUM UP YOUR STINT ON ALBERT SQUARE IN 3 WORDS WHAT WOULD THEY BE?  SAVED MY LIFE WHAT´S YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR? Going to Hollywood and getting a job when everyone said are you can’t. It was a big risk leaving the family, but I was very driven and ambitious as a young actor and listened to no one. WHAT ALL THE LADIES WANT TO KNOW IS ARE YOU SINGLE? That was question more suited for 30 years ago, :)) married. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GIRL? The whole package - but grounded - real, soft and caring. BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN? There’s two: always count to ten before reacting in certain situations and look in the mirror see what you got and sell it.

SEPTEMBER 3RD

WHAT IS YOUR WORST EVER FASHION FAUX PAS? Not a great tie lover they give me a headache. IF YOU COULD TAKE 3 THINGS TO A DESERT ISLAND WHAT WOULD THEY BE? A knife, a fishing rod and a tent. BEST THING ABOUT BEING AN ACTOR? Travel and change and the excitement of never knowing what’s coming with that next job. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? More Rise hopefully…!
