Famous Designer(Herbert Matter) Video process book
Suzanne Choi Beginning Typography 1, Fall’12 School of Design Carnegie Mellon University
First, I started by gathering information about Herbert Matter, using web, magazines, and film.
After I gathered enough information, i started to summarize information, and decided things to include in my video.
And wrote down every texts/ movie script for my video .
After deciding exact script of my movie, i started to generate story board sketch.
And tried digital story board to see feel of my movie.
But I realized that my initial idea doesn’t really respect voice of Herbert Matter (which I think is simple, honest, straight foward, and quite.) And also previous story board lacks of something that holds everything together. So, I came up with this new story board, while having his voice and big picture in mind.
Then, I generated draft of my movie.
After showing my draft, I realized that pacing was too fast. Also, I realized that it would be better to show examples while explaining. So, for final, I decided to -slow down pacing -show examples while explaining -introduce examples of his works before starting movie to grab people’s interest -find out better way to show quotes
realized that giving dates after introducing example would give sense of time to audiences.
realized that introducing quote sentence by sentence would reduce people’s burden on long text and would look more like “talking.”
Final Movie. - slower pacing - giving examples while explaining - giving dates after finish showing examples - introducing quote sentence by sentence to lessen audience’s burden on long text/ to make it more like “talking” - showing examples of his work first to grab people’s interest in Herbert Matter - keep style of movie simple, honest, quite, and straight foward(respect his style) - cut examples that less represent his style and add examples that better represnet his style
