Sukkoth marks the time of the grape harvest. At our Meir Shfeya Youth Village, this year our wine will be made almost entirely from the fruit of our homegrown vineyards. According to Miki Lipschitz, Head of Winery at Meir Shfeya, we have 2.3 tons of fermented fresh merlot grapes waiting to be put in oak barrels where they'll stay put until next year. The winery was developed to give our at-risk youth village children experience in a high-prestige and satisfying project. "The wine making is a great educational opportunity," said Lipschitz. "The kids are involved in every phase from caring for the grapes to bottling. They also play an integral role in selling the wine to different shops and meeting with potential clients. They are also trained on how to present, pour, and sell their wine, learning from wine industry experts who teach everything from how to make a more sophisticated wine to the best way to close a sale. The design of the label was voted on by the kids. It's a bunch of grapes, which are really fingerprints of the youth of Meir Shfeya. And we thought you make wine with toe prints! A number of the students will be taking courses at Michlelet Ramat Gan, where there is a college-level course in vinification. Is the glass half-full or half-empty? It doesn't matter. Just lift it and say l'chayim! ~ from Barbara Sofer’s Jerusalem Netletter

HONEY’S HEALTH TIPS -- from Honey Stollman
W Waasshhiinngg eevveerryy ddaayy ccaann bbee bbaadd ffoorr yyoouurr hhaaiirr MOSTLY MYTH "Daily washing is safe and healthy," says Mort Westman, the cosmetics chemist. If you have oily hair, it's fine to suds up every day--but even oily types should use a gentle formula (translation: one with moisturizing ingredients, like silicones, shea butter, or panthenol). People with coarse or dry hair might want to be more conservative and wash every other day, says L'Oréal's Youssef. No matter what kind of hair you have, as long as you stay away from harsh formulas that strip natural oils and treat your strands with conditioner, regular shampooing won't do any harm.
