TAMAR CHAPTER GENERAL MEETING MONDAY, June 16, 2008 – 10:00AM Beit Frankforter, 80 Derech Beit Lechem
Skyjack: 1970 Speaker: Sara Raab Sara Raab, travelling with her children, was on one of the planes hijacked to Jordan in 1970. Her teen-age son was separated from her in Jordan and has written of his experiences in the book "Terror in Black September." Sara and her younger children had different, if equally frightening, experiences until being released several weeks later. She will give us a first-hand account of what happened to her and her family on that awful September day. Sara taught in Jewish schools for thirty years and came on Aliyah in 1998. She lives in Jerusalem. This meeting is sponsored by Marilyn Frisch. If you would like to sponsor a meeting, please contact Peggy Frost at pfrost@netvision.net.il
Annual Benefac tors Event ~ ~ “H igh Tea”
On Thursday afternoon, May 29th, over 60 people came to a "High Tea" to honor Past President (of HadassahIsrael and Tamar Chapter) Phyllis Levinson and to support the new Comprehensive Breast Care Center at Hadassah-Ein Kerem. Phyllis was accompanied by her husband Shmuel, their children and grandchildren. The "High Tea" was prepared by members of the Benefactors Event Committee. We had open faced sandwiches, fruit, scones, fancy desserts and of course, tea (and coffee). Thanks to Hilda, Ruth and Pauline, we all had a wonderful meal. President of Tamar Chapter Pauline Clein opened the ceremonies and Past President Marge Feinstein and Hadassah-Israel President Norma Potashnick spoke about how they met Phyllis and her many accomplishments for Hadassah-Israel and the Tamar Chapter. Phyllis then introduced her family and spoke about her activities in Hadassah over the years, in the US and in Israel. Guest speaker Prof. Tamar Peretz, Head of the Sharett Cancer Center at Hadassah Ein Kerem spoke about the incidence and risk factors for Breast Cancer in Israel. The Comprehensive Breast Care Center will provide research and medical care for patients with breast cancer and for those at risk of developing the disease. The afternoon ended with a short piano concert by Alexander Zelotnikov, who also played "happy birthday" tunes for Dorothy Rogers who turned 100 on May 31st. A special thank you goes to Kehillat Moreshet Avraham, Rabbi Barry Schlesinger and Secretary Bella Ramot. The members of the Benefactors Event Committee were Past Presidents Roz Soltz and Kelinor Karpas, President Pauline Clein, Hilda Clyman, and Ruth Dran. All of the Committee members worked very hard to make this day a great success. Thanks also to Carol Caplan who worked with Hilda Clyman at the registration table. But without the generous support to all of the attendees and those who could not attend but made contributions, the Benefactors Event would not have been the success that it was. Thank you to all.
