The footbridge is like a link giving a circular walkway around the river. With the similar foot link not far and the two pedestrianized embankment, it is the missing link to finish the loop revolving aroud the Drava.
An object to create direct and undirect links between the pedestrians and the environnement.
The footbridge represent a connection between a wild bank and an urban one connected to the Dravska street.
A means of sitting above water.
The footbridge borders a large bridge wich is a main road axis. The river opens itself to a distant landscape.
A way of running through the river.
Impositions

The bridge has to allow an easy and pleasant pedestrians and bicyclits traffic by using an adapted coating for the deck, a wide passageway, and a limited slope. The level of the bridge has to allow the river traffic by respecting a height clearance of 3,60 meters.
A place to contemplate, to feel the surrounding area : the Drava like a centre, its diversified and animate banks, the pleasant farther landscape, the spectacular construction of the existing main bridge.

Structure Like each element which constitue the surrounding area, the footbridge is sensed like an object with a strong character. This perception gives to it the nature of a solid and unit element whose the form defines the function.
Main stripe Pict. 3
A width of 3 meter. A slope limited to 6 percent. Pict. 8 A direct linear trajectory from one bank to the other one.
Secondary walkway Pict. 4
On both sides of the main stripe are two secondary undirect walkway. One going down which allows to come closer the water and gives feeling of proximity with the urban bank. An other one going up which allows to come closer and contemplate the main bridge, gives a wonderland to the farther landscape and gives an answer to the strong slope of the wild bank.

Sitting areas appear naturally between the three walkways, giving quiet places appart from the flow of pedestrians.

By this way, the form of the deck create itself in the style of a vegetable, like two leafs growing from the banks to the river. As a leaf, the framework adapt naturally itself to the deck.

Constructive solutions

The deck Material : timberwood. This material gives to the users sensual pleasures, visual, tactile and olfactory pleasures. Timber is adapted to the vegetable form of the deck. Construction : the deck is composed of transverse juxtaposed stripes which are bended to describe the curvature of the surface. The bending of the stripes allows easily to add ondulations neccesary for the confort of the users in the sitting areas.

Constructive solutions The framework Material : steel. This material is choosed for its mechanical abilities, allowing to pass over long spans and have reduced thickness. Construction : the framework is composed of welded tubular profiles arranged in wire trussses following the form of the deck. Self weight of the bridge and loads are transmitted to the ground by concrete.

Constructive solutions The handrail

Thanks to their curvature, the timber stripes of the deck ensure naturally the handrail function excepted where the walkway is close to water. In this way the proximity of water is preserved. To ensure the handrail function in this area, a handrail is planed, made with steel profiles crossing the deck between the timber stripes, so as to express the extention of the steel frame coming from the bottom. The angle and the length of each steel profile denpends on the angle of the the timber strip which corresponds, expressing the complementarity between the steel handrail and the timber deck.
Lighting

Integrated just under the deck, the lighting system difuses a soft light through the timber stripes and projects the shadows of the frame on the water. Pict. 15
