Food storage is important in both a traditional domestic household and also in industrial place. The storing of food as well as timely delivery to consumers is important in order to secure the procurement of food. Food is stored by almost every human society.
Storing of food has several main purposes like enabling a better balanced diet throughout the year, reducing kitchen waste by preserving uneaten food, preserving spices or dry ingredients like rice and flour and also religious reasons. For certain group of people it becomes difficult to follow all the necessary actions required to store the food properly. For example young people who are busy in their own endeavours might not have the time where as some old people may not be able to spend the energy to follow the actions. In order to solve the above issue, a system where food can be stored properly and taken out at the time of the need was developed. This system would exist in a public area. Apart from helping people save their time and energy, another primary benefit of this system would be to reduce the waste of food by sharing food with other user.

life in city? The context of Storeasy is started from background of two members. One lived in complex in city more than ten years and the other is a foreign residents in Seoul as well. We asked made a scenarios that the user who is living in apartment in city who pursuit sustainable life!

SHARE OUR STORAGE ! A user using the apartment system in Seoul was asked what is their imagination of the future potential kitchen services and what if they are given a chance to share their food storage?

According to the user, he imagined that the kitchen services in the future would include technologically advanced devices which would help us to save our time. Being a busy student he also wished that there would be an easier way to deliver fresh food at his residence. When asked about how he feels about a public storage system, the user said that it would be quite helpful to him if since he would not have to go to the market to buy fresh food. User was more positive about the public storage system when we told him that the system would not just help him to refill his food, but it would also reduce wastage as he could share food with the other users of the system.

let’s share, sharing is caring for nature. This kind of a food storage system would exist in public areas. Every person/ family can have their own section in this storage and access the same whenever the need to. This storage would also have communication system which would help the users to refill the storage automatically. The system would also remind people when their food is going to expire so that they can make proper use of the same.

USER RESEARCH
During the brainstorming phase, we started mapping the field of study which is kitchen. Sharing kitchen, smart kitchen etc. We devided a kitchen in 6 different fields.
Out of over a hundred idea’s, we choose a concept related to local food for storage. The keyword of our project was sharing, exchanging, preserving foods.
In UX,UI research, we interviewed many people who live in the apartment system in Seoul city. Many people have some problems to have a cheap but fresh local food without inconvinience.
FIRST STEP FOR BRAINSTORMING The primary benefit of this storage is that the food wastage would reduce drastically. Whenever someone does not want/ is unable to use the food they bought, they can share the same with other users of the storage. This will also effectively reduce the amount of food waste produced.

STOREASY A user of Storeasy having thoughts ‘The weekend is almost over! Maybe i should think about ordering some fresh local food for the week ahead!’. The application developed for the user can be used to order the food. Through this application, the user can connect directly with the food vendors and acquire fresh food. Also the same application exists at the location of the food storage itself. If a user does not wish to use the application on his phone, he can use the same on the kiosk at the storage.User can use the kiosk application near the storage to enter his security code and acquire his food-box. Once the system approves, the user can take his food-box with him. There will be two storage boxes assigned to each user. When the user takes out the box filled with food, he can put back the empty box in order to keep to ready for the next order. The system also includes an option where the user is notified when the food present in the box will expire. According to these notifications, the user can decide whether he will be able to consume all the food within the specified time. If he is not able to then he can use the option of sharing the food with other users of the storage. This will effectively reduce food waste.

Once the user has acquired his food-box from the public storage system, he can carry the box to his apartment. There will be a similar system present in the personal kitchen of the user. The user can just place the box in place of the refrigerator system. This system will help maintain the temperature of the box and hence keep the food fresh.

storeasy ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS GET, PLACE, CHECK, SHARE YOUR FOOD The application designed for the ‘Storeasy’ system consists of four main elements. The first one would be the option to acquire the food-box by entering the users security code. The second option would be for placing a new order. By choosing this option, user can communicate with the vendors directly and order fresh local food. The next option is for checking the expiry dates of the products present in the users food-box. Once the user know how long the food will last, he can decide when to order. Also based on the above information if the user thinks that he will be unable to finish the food, he can use the last option of sharing the same with other users of Storeay. This will fulfil the primary reason of building the system which is to reduce wastage of food.
