HEY HEY HEY and how goes the day? Every morning I wake to my California day by putting my feet on the floor, flicking the on button on my lap top, walking to the kitchen preparing my morning java and dashing to make that first “executive decision” of the day (use the restroom). After washing my hands and other morning duties most times im just in time to hear the “beep, beep, beep” of the freshley brewed coffee wofting its aroma just within nose reach. I grab my favorite mug (which happens to be from Starbucks) in my right hand while my left hand pours anticipation as I enjoy the warmth of the steam as it rises up and dissapears in my face. DOSH. Amber Riley, best known for her role of Mercedes Jones on FOX’s Golden Globe, Peabody and SAG Award winning musical comedy Glee, got her first big break when Ryan Murphy cast her in the pilot St. Sass. Although the pilot was not picked up to series, she was able to use that experience to land a role on the television series Cedric the Entertainer Presents. Amber has performed in numerous theater productions, including Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Into the Woods and Mystery on the Docks with the Los Angeles Opera. In November 2012, she made her New York stage debut to rave reviews in New York City Center’s Duke Ellington’s Cotton Club Parade. Amber has received two individual NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy series for her work on Glee. In 2011, she was nominated for a second Teen Choice Award for Choice TV: Female Scene Stealer and in 2010 received the Most Popular Geek Award at AOL’s 1 st Annual Geek Awards. Amber previously served as an Ambassador for VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation and as a member of Seventeen Magazine’s Body Peace Council. She is currently in the studio working on her debut solo album. Bio from: http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/fall-2013-amber-riley-derek-hough

7:30am Tuesday September, 17 2013 and the sun is already high in the sky baking the California city
sidewalks. I finally hear that computer sound of windows warming up its engines so I take a seat in hope of reading something inspirational before I am out the door for the day. My first stop, MSN.com home page. There she was, a big beautiful smile, shimmering dress, high heels, one hand in the air striking a plus size pose like the super star that I soon found her to be. Amber Riley: I linked in to watch the video Dancin with the Stars episode from the prior day and I was floored to say the least. I have been teaching choreography for well over 15 years and she exuded everything one would and could look for in a dancer. I was also moved by the rehashing of the experiences that I had with a certain plus size dancer (a good friend of mine) that I worked with for years of my career. The young woman I am referring to was a phenomenal dancer in several areas of dance, took professional classes, owned, and ran her own dance establishment. In the middle of the 90s, the video world was just placing dancers in positions that were now very profitable so we were constantly on big auditions. Problem was no matter how good she was they wanted very thin dancers. I remember her going on an audition with an x-girlfriend of mine and not getting then part (thought she was one if not the best there). These were not little shows; these were the heavy hitters, the Janet Jacksons, Britney Spheres and celebrity tours of that stature. Needless to say I literally watched her cry several times, for several years understanding why she didn’t get the part. Thankfully, we are in a new era and young ladies like Amber Riley are breaking the mold, inspiring and in short “doing the damn thang”. This is definitely a young rising star that deserves all the goodness that her hart can carry. Even though sometime we are just being ourselves, sometimes ourselves are we need to be You never know, you just might inspire someone to be……DOSH

It is known that music soothes the savage beast, but what kind of music can soothe that beast. The beast that I'm referring to is the carnal, animalistic side to you. The music that is prevalent throughout the country is music at a low frequency, promoting the low ability to make an optimum performance from the individual. In an instant, music can uplift our soul. It awakens within us the spirit of prayer, compassion, and love. It clears our minds and has been known to make us smarter. Music can dance and sing our blues away. It conjures up memories of lost lovers or deceased friends. It lets the child in us play, the monk in us pray, the cowgirl in us line dance, the hero in us surmount all obstacles. It helps the stroke patient find language and expression. Music is a holy place, a cathedral so majestic that we can sense the magnificence of the universe, and also a hovel so simple and private that none of us can plumb its deepest secrets. Music helps plants grow, drives our neighbors to distraction, lulls children to sleep, and marches men to war. - See more at: [www.superconsciousness.com]
It has been demonstrated repeatedly: brain waves can be modified by both music and self-generated sounds. Ordinary consciousness consists of beta waves, which vibrate from fourteen to twenty hertz. Beta waves occur when we focus on daily activities in the external world, as well as when we experience strong negative emotions. Heightened awareness and calm are characterized by alpha waves, which cycle from eight to thirteen hertz. Periods of peak creativity, meditation, and sleep are characterized by theta waves, from four to seven hertz, and deep sleep, deep meditation and unconsciousness produce delta waves, ranging to .5 to three hertz. The slower the brain waves, the more relaxed, contented and peaceful we feel.

If
the body proves successful at resisting disease, it is because the system works in harmony; the blood, lymph, and other fluids circulate properly and the liver, spleen, and kidneys maintain their overall integrity. Research in immunology suggests that insufficient oxygen in the blood may be a major cause of immune deficiency and degenerative disease. Scientists in a study at Michigan State University reported that listening to music for only fifteen minutes could increase levels of interlukin-1 (IL-1) in the blood from 12.5 to 14 percent. Interlukins are a family of proteins associated with blood and platelet production, lymphocyte stimulation, and cellular protection against AIDS, cancer, and other diseases. In summary, the vibrations and frequencies around is can either detrimental or repairing in its application. But we as the conscious and vibrating individual have to acknowledge what we put into our bodies not just what we digest. We live in a electric world where things are living, just like Jimi Hendrix so eloquently put as a title of one of his albums "Electric Ladyland". We are responsible for our well being so let us be mindful of the music we surround ourselves and others.

this is dedicated to my mom. I love you, I miss you, and I will see you again.
I'M FREE Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God laid, you see. I took His hand when I heard him call. I turned around and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found the peace on a sunny day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A family shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things, I too, will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief. Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee. God wanted me now; He set me free.
SwerveMagazine is very supportive on the research and treatment of the aggressive and fast-spreading disease that is called Breast Cancer. This is a serious disease that can debilitate even cause the demise of many people. This not only can occur in women but men as well. So men must also participate in the preventative treatment of breast cancer. Breast cancer is generally seen in women after menopause. But it can strike much earlier. Breast cancer in pregnancy is very rare. But it can happen. The vast majority of breast cancer patients are women. But any man can develop breast cancer, but it is most common among men who are 60 – 70 years of age. About one percent of all breast cancers occur in men. About 2,000 men are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, with about 450 deaths due to male breast cancer occurring each year.. Also adhering to Clinical Breast exams and Mammograms can help in the preventative treatment of any variation of breast cancer. There are many treatments and surgeries to prevent the spread of the cancer throughout the body.

This diagnosis can make or break a marriage. You'll find that you have a better marriage after breast cancer, or you'll have no marriage. Fortunately, most women find the diagnosis makes a marriage stronger ( most times depending on how long they have been married, the longer the better the chances). Your fight against breast cancer truly is a battle in the medical trenches. Let your husband or boyfriend climb in the trenches with you. Let him help in any way he wants. Some husbands come to every medical appointment and take notes. Some have their hands full just helping with the grocery shopping. The point is, give your husband permission to be as involved as he wants. And understand that not every man can climb into the trench with you. If you didn't have a strong relationship before your diagnosis, you may face a rough time. But if you're both willing to work, you can find ways to get back to the love you shared years ago. Unfortunatly sometimes its the crisis draws a couple closer. by :xxxMrsTainaStacksxxx EDITORS note: In closing we stress to those that are supporting those dealing with cancer, one does
understand the demand both physically and emotionally but also understand whatever you think you are going through the person dealing with the actual cancer is dealing 100xs more then you could ever imagine. Be patient, be kind, be aware, you could be the one in need of support. DOSH

Is it demoralizing our black youth more than the our white youth??
As of recently it appears the hip-hop generation has kept its self-prevalent in the media with its famously felonious light, this time regarding its fashion (again). Am I with or without opinion on this particular issue? My feelings are torn between common courtesy and youth expression. On one hand let us just be real for a brief second, if your (excuse the expression) ass is hanging over the top of your pants then perhaps you need to pull them up a little out of respect for those around you. On the youthful side, generations have pushed the boundaries century in and out and will continue to do so. The ultimate question would be, “who is it hurting, anyone”? BOBBLE X. The following is a story from 2009, showing how little things have changed (for the better).
Students from Washington University in St. Louis raised civil rights complaints Thursday against a popular Chicago nightclub after six African-Americans were denied entry under the bar’s “no baggy pants” policy — even as fellow students said the bar admitted similarly dressed white students. “It’s pretty demoralizing,” said Regis Murayi, 21, the senior class treasurer who helped organize the Chicago trip for the college’s senior outing but was not allowed into the bar Saturday night as many of his friends partied inside wearing special wristbands. “We had prearranged this agreement. We had spoken to these people prior. We had brought a lot of business to them.” Representatives of the Original Mother’s bar, 26 W. Division St., said security concerns, not racism, guided their decision to exclude the six students and four friends. http://cockroachpeople.com/?p=790OCT ~con on page 36~

In the mid to late Nineteen-Twenties after World War I began and coming to an end near the mid Nineteen-Thirties called the AfricanAmerican cultural revolution which was centered in the city of Harlem; this is known now as the Harlem Renaissance era. This 09/18/2013 03:25AM cultural movement was focused around the Arts of primarily literary, music, theater, art and dance. The Harlem Renaissance around this essential period cultivates the black pride and uplifting the African culture through the use of intellect. It was amazing how AfricanAmericans would use their artistic talents to confront the racial stereotypes to help promote the racial integrations. Thinking back now significantly it was the genesis of the Harlem Renaissance intellectuals that rooted the radical political philosophy of the Civil Rights movement. The Harlem Renaissance, that is known to us know would go by the names in the early Nineteen-Twenties as the “New Negro Movement or the New Negro Renaissance.” This was the name that represented the hundreds of thousands of African-Americans whom which traveled from the rural south to the manufacturing atmosphere of the Northern cities for multiple factors called the Great Migration. In search of greater empowerment, work and tolerable environments Harlem, NY became the largest concentration of colored Americans in the history of the world, which made Harlem the cultural heart of the African-American people. Now with intensified social awareness going on it was a precondition for the Harlem Renaissance. There had to be an advocacy for racial equality which was embodied in the early Nineteen Hundreds that was founded as the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People … the (NAACP). This interracial organization pioneered African-American culture sociologist, Mr. W.E.B. DuBois, he whom helped get the group started and served as the editor of its first magazine called “The Crisis”. 22
With the National Urban League being an interracial organization and founded in Nineteen-Eleven; it was a commitment to the integration and social service approach to be able to help uproot the African people during this time of the Harlem Renaissance. During this era it was a great opportunity for the League’s magazine to publish its first colored writers and to be able to promote them through several articles and reviews. Charles S. Johnson, who was known as the “Godfather” of the Harlem Renaissance black sociologist was the editor of the magazine and he secured the patrons to sponsor prizes for the younger African-American writers in their annual magazine contests. By the time Nineteen-Twentyfour came around the opportunity for Charles S. Johnson came again but this time he was the first of several to host a dinner that would bring forth the assuring AfricanAmerican writers introducing them to the white cultural publishing establishment. Charles S. Johnson was a success and after this dinner was accomplished there was a special Harlem issue created by the very own “Survey Graphic magazine”.
So this is why we as a nation not just African-Americans should embody and pay homage to the artist, musicians, and writers of the Harlem Renaissance who have came before. We as individuals who share the love for the Arts are able to have the freedom to express ourselves wholeheartedly and openly because of those who made a way for us to do so.

This is the HOUSEofPOETRY’s Head of Poetry, xxxMrsTainaStacksxxx giving you the lowdown to the second edition to HouseOfPoetry's poetic experience. Last event was themed the Retro Harlem Renaissance featuring DOSHAIMAN and xxxMrsTainaStackxxx. The Harlem Renaissance was a poignant period to the growth and advancement of the art world in America. To pay homage to the great artists of that time, we dressed in character and recited poems to illustrate the consciousness of the era. DOSHAIMAN was featured as Cab Calloway and Billie Holiday was featured by xxxMrsTainaStacksxxx. The venue was held at the JazzHop Lounge on September 23rd @9pmEST. There was music, laughter, and dancing to commemorate the era's occasion. The house was packed with very satisfied customers who are excited to attend the next themed poetic event. As much as the patrons enjoyed themselves was a much as the entertainers enjoyed sharing their artistry. I can see him sitting there scribbling legendary lines of inner instability as his weathered hands clinch his teeth marked pencil. I can hear his thoughts as he writes about the old Negro sitting on his rickety stool “by the pale dull pallor of an old gas light” playing his beaten piano. MY understanding of his understanding stands as grand as the vividness illustrated upon tattered notebook pages floating through Harlem night air. I can see the alley cat screech in the night as the old man’s breathe dances off the frosty night air, bouncing off ghetto walls and empty allies. “Old man I can hear your blues, though past I can still hear your blues”. I can see myself planted by the broken street light adjacent to your spare notes, I can hear the invisible lines that ring into infinity. I am know your lazy sway and melancholy ways, the accolades from slave days, the thump thump thump of your feet on the cracked concrete that intensifies with every line. “I can feel your blues as Langston Hughes felt your tone, heard your tune, your creaking piano moan”. “Your weary blues are still weary; I now wonder if anyone can hear me” I now wonder if anyone can hear you”. 27

I remember waken up early mornings hearing the groaning of the ox’s dragging
my papa’s heavy plow cross deem dang fields. Now the time has come for me to help mama in her kitchen; she would say… we would chitchat prying, as she pass down her baking wisdom she say baby-girl you’re a queen and you should be treated as such. Still hearing papa in the fields as the furrow rubs against the blades of the plow giving it a nice shine. I embrace the words mama wash with her tears and plants in my soul. While without papa knowing he also is showing me how the work is done. He say “not till this earth is twice plowed, twice exposed with sunlight and twice cooled down will it yield what we farmers prays for. I remember there was a time when brothers were each other’s keepers and my sisters held each other tightly close till there was nothing left between them. Back when music was a song that you could sing to no matter how long; as long as it spoke to you, sang to you … You know where I’m coming from? Back when I was a little queen Papa’s work and Mama’s Kitchen showed how the work is done. Now I lay me down to sleep and I chase the rainbows and dreams’, trying so hard to believe this is how it could be. Yesterday is just yesterday, tomorrow is just a dream away and by then it may just be too late. Just maybe we can start again today for Papa’s work and Mama’s Kitchen showed how the work is done.

Maaaaaan! Just when we thought it was over it keeps pullin’ us back in. Does this outfit or moment ever dissipate or will it forever burn the cornea of millions of eyes and boggle the minds of children everywhere? O.K. maybe not that serious but I do not think we have to worry about a Hanna Montana Disney revival haunting a city near you, or me. Since it is the season of the witching, (no reference to the aforementioned) we felt it only appropriate to seek out this year’s favorite and or most popular Halloween costumes. I am just going to cut through the chase and say I can honestly say I was not ready for what the world considered the best/most popular costume for the season. I had to question: I was left to wonder, was this a joke costume or were the kids’ paying homage to their favorite pop artist. Without further a due, “Throw ya’ foam fingers in the air and…….. Well, gander for yourself”. Ps. I hope it does not rain on HALLOWEEN night (*under my breath: “please let it rain!”) Congrats to Miley for being a Halloween icon? First and foremost black women say is it the immaturity of a black man that dates interracial because they want someone "exotic" on their arm so they can show off. Some black women be it the light skins or dark skin woman; the black man will bypass them up for an unattractive white woman (before either a black man or woman would have said a word). Then I have had some black women say they feel a black man sometimes seek outside of their race trying to find a woman that makes them feel better about their own dark skin. Now I am amazed at the fact my black women have some different thoughts on why black men date outside of their race. One woman said to me that she thinks black men tend to be more open minded then black women when it comes to dating. Some black women can not stomach the site of a black man with any woman outside of her being a black woman. They feel like there is only a little of good black men available to select from and they seem to be all taken by a race other then African-American. I do know that a lot of males are attracted to black women, but some black women often do not believe that they are desired because of the media and community conditioning. These are just a few statements that affect our African-American women when it comes to the touchy subject of why so many black men date out of their race.
Comment fr: LaZhaDuBoise: Now it really floats my boat when a black man can reference black women’s attitudes as a reason for them not to date them. My first natural reaction is to step back and exhibit the same type of attitude a black man describes. I wanted to just laugh out loud at the fact the black man said that, but his comment disturbed me just as much as the hood chick popped off being disrespectful in the middle of a religious instruction. I pulled the man to the side that made the comment and asked him again, “No black women for you at all my bother?” and he reiterated his point. “I can’t ever see it…No!” Well all three parties in this situation to me sounded ignorant honestly..please comment @ swervemagazine22@gmail.com or reply to Lazha’s articles @

QueenDaSanya Re: HOT TOPICS & DISCUSSIONS (CALIonIMVU) I believe there is a percentage of black men that are just simply attracted to women of other races. Then you have the black men that had bad experiences with the black women that they dated so they try a woman of a different race only to find out it had nothing to do with race. Those are the men that need to look deep within themselves to see what is that they are doing in there relationship thats not making it work. I have have also found myself comfortable with a man of any race. So I would be one of the women that dates outside of her race. I don't find anything wrong with a man or woman dating outside of their race just do it for the right reason. And there's one reason, because that's what the hell you wanted to do.
According to the National Healthy Resource Center, “interracial relationships are most common among the middle class, among those with higher education. College increases individuals exposure to other races/ethnicities and the idea of intermarriages. Once men and women reach a higher education is when there is an increase in individuals exposed to other cultures/ethnicities and the ideal of interracial relationships and marriages are created. 35

~REPULSE~ White women's opinion of black women & a brother's response Please take a moment and read this. Pretty Deep! Thumbs up to this black man.. Enjoy. It seems that an article was written to Sister 2 Sister magazine by a Caucasian woman who requested a response from black men. I'm so glad she got what she asked for (and more) !!! Dear Jamie: I'm sorry but I would like to challenge some of your Black male readers. I am a White female who is engaged to a Black male-good-looking, educated and loving. I just don't understand a lot of Black female's attitudes about our relationship. My man decided he wanted me because the pickings amongst Black women were slim to none. As he said they were either too fat, too loud, too mean, too argumentative, too needy, too materialistic or carrying too much excess baggage. Before I became engaged, whenever I went out I was constantly approached by Black men, willing to wine and dine me and give me the world. If Black women are so up in arms about us being with their men, why don't they look at themselves and make some changes. I am tired of the dirty looks I get and snide remarks when we're out in public. I would like to hear from some Black men about why we are so appealing and coveted by them. Bryant Gumbel just left his wife of 26 years for one of us Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, the model Tyson Beckford, Montell Williams, Quincy Jones, James Earl Jones, Harry Belafonte, Sydney Poitier, Kofi Anan, Cuba Gooding Jr., Don Cornelius, Berry Gordy, Billy Blanks, Larry Fishburne, Wesley Snipes... I could go on and on. But, right now, I'm a little angry and that is why I wrote this so hurriedly. Don't be mad with us White women because so many of your men want us. Get your acts together and learn from us and we may lead you to treat your men better. If I'm wrong, Black men, let me know. Disgusted White Girl, Somewhere in VA RESPONSE Dear Jamie: I would like to respond to the letter written by A Disgusted White Girl. Let me start by saying that I am a 28-year old black man. I graduated from one of the most prestigious universities in Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. I have a good job at a major corporation and have recently purchased a house. So, I consider myself to be among the ranks of successful black men. I will not use my precious time to slander white people. I just want to set the record straight of why black men date white women. Back in the day, one of the biggest reasons why black men dated white women was because they were considered easy. The black girls in my neighborhood were raised in the church. They were very strict about when they lost their virginity and who they lost it to. Because of our impatience to wait, brothers would look for someone who would give it up easy without too much hassle. So, they turned to the white girls. Nowadays, in my opinion, a lot of brothers date white women because they are docile and easy to control. A lot of black men, because of insecurities, fears, and overall weaknesses, have become intimidated by the strength of our black women. We are afraid that our woman will be more successful than us, make more money than us, drive nicer cars and own bigger houses.Because of this fear, many black men look for a more docile woman. Someone we can control. I have talked to numerous black men and they continuously 36
comment on how easy it is to control and walk over their white women. I just want to set the record straight. I want A Disgusted White Girl to know that not all successful black men date white women. Brothers like Ahmad Rashad, Denzel Washington, Michael Jordan, Morris Chestnut, Will Smith, Blair Underwood, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris Rock all married strong black women And, to flip the script, there are numerous white men, in and out of the spot light, who openly or secretly desire black women over white women. Ted Danson, Robert DeNiro, and David Bowie to name a few. I just don't want a disgusted white girl to be misinformed Stop thinking that because you are white that you are some type of goddess. Remember, when black Egyptian Queens like Hatsepshut and Nitorcris were ruling Dynasties and armies of men in Egypt, you were over in the caves of Europe eating raw meat and beating each other over the head with clubs. Read your history! It was the black woman that taught you how to cook and season your food. It was the black woman that taught you how to raise your children. It was black women who were breast feeding and raising your babies during slavery. It is the black woman that had to endure watching their fathers, husbands, and children beaten, killed, and thrown in jail. Black women were born with two strikes against them: being black and being a woman. And, through all this, Still They Rise! It is because of the black women's strength, elegance, power, love and beauty that I could> never> date anyone except my black Queen. It is not just the outer beauty that captivates and draws me to them. It is not the fact that they come in all shapes, sizes, colors and shades that I love them. Their inner beauty is what I find most appealing about black women. Their strong spirit, loving and nurturing souls, their integrity, their ability to overcome great obstacles, their willingness to stand for what they believe in, and their determination to succeed and reach their highest potential while enduring great pain and suffering is why I have fallen in love with black women. I honestly believe that your anger is geared more toward jealousy and envy more so than snotty looks. If this were not so, then why do you continuously go to tanning salons to darken your skin? If you are so proud to be white, then why don't you just be happy with your pale skin? Why do you continue to inject your lips, hips, and breasts with unnatural and dangerous substances so you can look fuller and more voluptuous? I think that your anger is really a result of you wanting to have what the black woman has. BOTTOM LINE: If I were looking for a docile woman, someone I can walk over and control, I would give you a call. But, unfortunately, I am looking for a Virtuous Woman. Someone that can be a good wife and mother to my children. Someone who can be my best friend and understands my struggles. I am looking for a soul mate. I am looking for a sister and; unfortunately, you do not and CANNOT fit the bill. No offense taken, none given. Signed, Black Royalty Wow!! We must pass this on to make the day of the Black Queens and remind our black kings of what they have…1 hour ago

XXXX…AND that answer about control well I use to BELIEVE that, but now it’s something different that We have not yet put our fingers on, or perhaps we just don’t want to FACE some of our demons. It seems WE (Black men) date outside of the race at a very high rate, and not just white. So, in the case of black males dating an Asian, an Italian, someone from the Middle East and so on, would the CONTOL factor still be prevalent? It is not about control, and it is not about easy sex (hood rats are very very FREE). There is something else. What? Its deeper than the article I read which for me was just SCRATCHIN the surface from behind tainted glass. (sorry)....I always hear our folks say "don’t air ya dirty laundry".. I think it would take an honesty that most are not ready to admit but maybe it’s time to air out. BOTH black men and woman have high racial of dating outside of the race, and if you have seen any NEW movies they are doing their best to secure the black woman white man dynamic (just an observation). So in conclusion I think we have to stray away from the question being presented from a white female perspective (which is going to be answered with bitterness) and address the REASONING behind why WE have these stigmas towards each other that allows us to say the things we say about ourselves which in turn steer us to other pastures.....thanks SWERVEmagazine DOSH?...17 minutes ago
XXXX,,,YES her last few lines did get a little IFFFY (lol)... but for me that is a test of how strong we have to be in order to even present our answers...I feel those lines made the response bitter from jump street (but not without reasoning)... As a writer trying to inform he got personal and missed the SUPER BIG picture. None the less it was very SPARKING and I’m glad you shared that,,, KUDOS to you …14 minutes ago.
Editor note: Regardless to how we feel about this situation, it might be something that demands a certain attention. Do I think it will get that attention? Probably not, I think some that should get involved in the debate might feel it walks a very thin line bordering racism. In the darkest light, it could also portray the image of a very calculated genocide. Every race visualizes a certain purity within their culture, not because there prejudice, it is more a since of pride and a future existence. Some say it does not really matter the race or the mixture of the race. I do understand that if you’re from the world where your race wasn’t even considered human, or fit to eat at a particular counter, race might be a very touchy place and the idea of erasing, replacing or recreating it can be a painful politically horrifying though.

Astrology Corner with xxxMrsTainaStacksxxx Hello again, this is Taina with my third edition to Astrology Corner. In this edition, we are going to elaborate on the different charts of astrology. Know you may be asking yourself, what is my astrological chart and what does that mean? Well, in a brief summary, everyone is born with the universe set in a particular way during the time of their birth. So, it is befitting to know how does each planet in their setting has an effect on the individual. For example, I will show you my natal chart and how it looks like. Sun: Aquarius Moon: Cancer Mercury: Pisces Venus: Aquarius Mars: Pisces Jupiter: Libra Saturn: Libra Uranus: Scorpio Neptune: Sagittarius Pluto: Libra This is how a natal chart looks like. It has ten planets each on an influence of my behavior and my livelihood. Now can it predict the future…no. But can it give you an insight of how you think, how you love, how you communicate with others and so on and so forth. In the other previous editions I explain the different planets and their influential placement in the universe. Again for the ones that frown upon this I respect your opinion of your beliefs. But was it not GOD that created the universe? So why would it be so far fetch to believe that each planets has its own energy and is reflected upon the individual due to its placement in the galaxy? To get a natal (birth) chart done you can go to www.AstroLabe.com to get a calculation of your natal chart. How is my natal chart different from my horoscope? Your natal chart is much more detailed and accurate than your horoscope. A popular horoscope considers only the position of the Sun, whereas your natal chart includes hundreds of pieces of data. Mark Twain once said: "The difference between a good word and the right word is like the difference between fire and firefly." Similarly, your popular horoscope may hold some hints of truth, but your
natal chart tells us the real story of your natural personality.
What can my natal chart show me? Analyzing the planetary positions and relationships in your natal chart affords a remarkably profound and revealing glimpse into your natural character, with its inherent strengths and weaknesses. Among other things, your natal chart will tell you: A) what type of partner and relationship you seek and will be best matched with, what type of job or career your natural strengths and weaknesses are best suited for, and C) obstacles that need to be overcome in your life. Most importantly, your natal chart will help you to understand your desires, motivations, and why you are the way that you are.
Why do you need my exact time and place of birth to calculate my natal chart?
For a natal chart to be accurate, we must know the exact positions of the stars at the exact moment of your birth. Since the houses of the zodiac revolve one degree every four minutes, an accurate time of birth is necessary to determine your Ascendant sign and some planetary aspects. Although we can generate a natal chart without these highly time-sensitive positions included, we'd much rather give you the more accurate chart that is generated with an exact time and place of birth. In conclusion, we are individuals first, so it is respectfully so that when you were born you have your own unique fixed position in the universe that caters to you. So use this natal chart to reveal the divine portrait that is you. And I leave you with the words of the Hindi salutation, Namaste 39

A person doesn't just change how they feel about someone, especially not a woman. A woman's heart is faithful and loyal as long as it is treated well and right. And contrary to what many believe, once a woman opens her heart to you, she will always love you, in a way. We women have a built in protection to our heart. It builds a wall of protection with each tear. The tear turns to brick. The brick builds the wall. Realize that a woman doesn't change how she feels about someone without good reason. While a person might be focused on the symptom, the seeming change in feelings, they should be focused on the illness: What have you done to make her question loving you? Have you lied to her? Made her cry? Did you make promises you didn't keep? Did you hurt her deeply and not make amends? How many unresolved issues are between you? Wrongs you didn't apologize for...fights you didn't really make up from...insecurities you caused and didn't repair? Women really want to say this to those who question why her feelings changed or she seems to have stopped loving you: Look at what you've done and follow the path to her feelings for you. Your thoughts?
The reality of our society is that many young people are actively engaged in sexual activity. Children as young as elementary school-aged are now becoming parents because of irresponsible sexual encounters. With staggering statistics about youth pregnancy and the astounding number of children and teens catching STDs, is asking our children to abstain a realistic approach? This show has a special guest, Younger Brother, a 14-year old high school Sophomore. He, along with the usual hosts, discuss the real possibility of teaching abstinence in a sexual society.

A small note to fellow writers, a few things I have observed and as one sharing his writings. I have received a few requests from those wanting to share their articles with our readers here at SWERVEmagazine. Well, I do not ask for much due to the crevasse of writing in which I exist. I am a poet; I find poetry in everything that I read and write weather intentional or not so much. Therefore, when I read an article I need to feel the rhythm, I need to read the flow and be taken to that writing lyrically visual as possible. I would simply say to those that have inquired: This is simply my opinion based on my experience, my teachings and most of all from understanding how I feel when I read what someone else writes. When writing your articles bases on alleged facts, one should try to avoid what can come across as an aggressive tone, unless that is the intention. In other words, assure yourself of the facts and reference points without sounding overzealous or condescending to the reader. Try to avoid empty phrases that leave responsibility in the air unless your piece is based in a semi-poetic form (which we will tend to do here at SWERVE at times). Write as if your readers have NO idea of the subject you are presenting to them unless you are aware of the preparedness of your audience. Try to explain when giving statistics or using phrases relevant to the subject that to you might seem simple (for instance using medical terminology to someone not necessarily privy to the medical field). Make sure each statement is backed by references, links, or corresponding connections when possible. Wikipedia may not be a good source at times (as I attended college we were NOT allowed to site Wiki sites; though you can be lead to other good sites via). Writers should always be creative, informative, emotionally charged and true to the craft regardless of the story. At times most of your pieces should be very non-bias, though use your own discretion with the understanding of possible backlash concerning personal perspectives on certain subjects. YOU WILL be held accountable for your personal words, so site well, fact correctly and understand that people will pick you a part, words last longer than unrecorded vocals and freedom of speech is a two way street. Travel with caution and write with precision. Ps.do YOU a favor and spell check when possible. Until then, I will keep learning and hopefully we will all keep teaching‌ Write on Right on! DOSH

~con fr: IMVUBP (fr: page 19)~ Even more than the misappropriation of the word “nigga” as a term of endearment, the cultural phenomenon of sagging pants speaks exclusively to the institutionalized brainwashing of black America. We have been robbed of an enriched culture that was decorated with dignity and refinement only to find ourselves demeaned to the ass-sagging uniform. If hip-hop is the voice of a generation, ass-sagging pants is the uniform. And both are rooted in a rebellion so entrenched that many black men proudly regurgitate, through words and attire, the tell-tale sign of psychological ownership. If we could delve beneath the often exploitative lyrics of poverty, violence, drug consumption and slangin’, we might recognize that the price tags on our youth’s sagging jeans are nothing more than potential inmate numbers in disguise. And we are well aware of our Caucasian counterparts robbing anything that was originally made by us; Rock, Classical, Jazz, Gospel, and the list goes on. But why is it that a young white male can walk down the street with his pants sagging and hoody and not be felt threatened by elders? Why when he walks with a boppy gait he is seen as "urbane"? Well you have to look at the history people. Everything about us made to make our people have low self-esteem. I mean when you see a black bird you instantly think of death and horror. While the white dove represents hope and life. It is a subtle nuance that we have to swallow but we happily take our dosage by "dressing" the part. Homophobic – and unsubstantiated -- scare tactics aside, Judge Mathis’ panoramic perspective as former gangbanger turned judge and prison advocate, suggests that the sagging trend is nothing more than a prison uniform encapsulating the wreckage of our communities. In urban war-zones of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, as black men returned from lengthy crackinduced prison-bids, sagging pants were being worn on street corners simmering with freestyle cyphers and riddled with dirty needles. The beltless, low-riding style worn by “thugs” and “hustlers” became the symbolism of manhood, victimhood and the "hood” all in the same 16 bars. Today, the trend continues in cities all over America, but especially shows no signs of slowing in New York City. Critically acclaimed hip-hop artist Sha Stimuli, who hails from Brooklyn and is the younger brother of famed New York producer Lord Digga, admits to following the trend as a teenager, but strictly for superficial reasons. Today’s youth, he observes, are seeking validation. “I sagged a little bit in high school but it wasn't a conscious effort made to do it,” he wrote in an email. “Nowadays it looks really bad when youngsters sag so low that they can't walk straight. I empathize with wanting to be cool, but when I see Lil Wayne on award shows displaying his underwear -- and countless other rappers doing the same thing -- it's sad to know that a whole generation is following.” What we mostly see, is that “give a f*ck attitude,” with young black boys wearing their pants well below the waist as some misguided symbol of strength and power -- despite the constant need to pull them up. Sagging has become a complex iconography for a generation struggling to regain its footing in a society designed for them to fail.
44
It is absurd that the very same system that provides drugs and guns criminalizes both the perpetrators and the victims, provides the sagging pants that have come to define a generation, also has the cajones to then try to implement laws requiring people who “sag” to pay fines, or risk returning to the very same prison complexes where the “trend” began. In the words of the Willie Lynch letter, delivered by Willie Lynch on the bank of the James River in the colony of Virginia in 1712, his advice to his fellow slave owners still ring true to this very day:"Now that you have a list of differences, I shall give you an outline of action, but before that, I shall assure you that DISTRUST IS STRONGER THAN TRUST AND ENVY STRONGER THAN ADULATION, RESPECT OR ADMIRATION. The Black slaves after receiving this indoctrination shall carry on and will become self-refueling and selfgenerating for HUNDREDS of years, maybe THOUSANDS. Don’t forget, you must pitch the OLD black male vs. the YOUNG black male, and the YOUNG black male against the OLD black male. You must use the DARK skin slaves vs. the LIGHT skin slaves, and the LIGHT skin slaves vs. the DARK skin slaves. You must use the FEMALE vs. the MALE, and the MALE vs. the FEMALE. You must also have white servants and overseers [who] distrust all Blacks. But it is NECESSARY THAT YOUR SLAVES TRUST AND DEPEND ON US. THEY MUST LOVE, RESPECT AND TRUST ONLY US. Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control. Use them. Have your wives and children use them, never miss an opportunity. IF USED INTENSELY FOR ONE YEAR, THE SLAVES THEMSELVES WILL REMAIN PERPETUALLY DISTRUSTFUL. Thank you gentlemen.” We have to break the chain of complying to the status quo and looking at this destructive culture as a means to tear down our men once again through means of self-identity. Men struggle every day with the self-affirmation and recognition of his efforts. So for our young men this is cry for attention, to be noticed by our women as well as his male counterparts. He is a sensitive creature that needs to be nourished and admired, and if we don't give him the guidance and support that he so desperately needs, he will seek it elsewhere. White people had always gotten away with murder, pornography, and immorality, so it is not so far fetched that them taking up this culture is seen to them as demoralizing, because you are in a culture that really has no morals and that was conjured up by infidels that screams out "We are in a civilized country". So, that is my thoughts on the sagging pants dilemma and i hope you are well-informed.

Well ladies and gents this is the end of our discussion. I was going to writa a wrap up but I ran into this and felt it could not be summed up any better. PEACE Recently, in MA an organization has circulated a video about “sagging pants” which details punishments of arrest, fines, and up to 3 yrs in jail. This forum is to discuss the criminalization of our youth and the dangerous implications via mass incarceration, school to prison
pipeline, etc. This forum is not to discuss the validity of whether or not “sagging pants” is acceptable or attractive, the organizers of this forum are not fans of this trend, rather we are more concerned with the various means and methods by which black & brown children are further criminalized and introduced earlier and earlier to the criminal justice system and law enforcement. http://www.facebook.com/events/345187405592207/ 46

IGNANT howls out like that lone night banshee that sneaks through so many haunting stories. She lies in wait salivating as her poison venom drips into your pulse. YOUR blood begins to curdle and sour demons lurk through your blood stream murdering innocent intentions. “and so on and so on”. OOWWWWWHHHH! MUAAAAHAHAHAHA! WELCOME GOOLS AND GOBBLINS yet another month has come around and the IGNANT persist to insist to be consistent. In to the night they come as visible as the sun adorned in its entire splendor. No disguise, no mask, no intention outside of tormenting the speck of light trying to creep into its peripheral. “Who is it”? HOLD UP! Let us just “tear the roof off the mutha”. We have pulsed, tweeted, facebooked, spaced out, poked, graffiti-ed walls, in boxed, outsourced, pm-ed to the am, joined in , lived second lives, imvu-ed and iphoned ourselves to death. We decided to give the IGNANT the shine that it craves. You want the community to know your name?
Avatars talk trash and virtually run around as if there words are not REAL. Everything you put in to the netverse becomes timeless. Yesterday, today and tomorrow your IGNAnT comments, texts, and virtual verbal’s live. It has gotten to the point that you can’t escape the uneducated uncalculated words that people throw out in fits of rage and just personal BS tantrums, so in honor of “If you can’t beat um join um-” we dare venture into the world of IGNANT things that people text into the net-verse. Be warned some of these comments are so (lets be real, “stupid”) they may zapp bits of your intelligence. Recalibrate your brain after reading any of these following comments. By:DOSH

Deliriousl …OCT 9, 2013…So on Friday i found out a good friend of mine, Had a car accident and died. He was such a good friend to me at school from when we left school we still talked and helped each other on our problems, he was always so honest truthful and caring. He left his gf and his daughter behind when he got, it was such a shock to everyone to hear he was dead! I am still trying to get over it prob wont for a long time, but it has taught me something I need to start living my life to the max, you never know what’s around the corner, something good or bad can happen. So live every day to the max, be happy, stop fighting with the ones you love because you never know what could happen to them, Him and his gf fought and they had about 6months apart from each other now she is kicking herself in the teeth for leaving him and loosing time she could have had with him. However, everyone stop with the hating, fighting, everything. You never know what could happen to your besties, loved ones or families. Stop with all the regrets forget all the past, Live for the future. Life is shorter then you
I am going to start myself being happier and spending special time with ones that mean a lot to me. In addition, remind everyone how much he or she means to me a lot more than I usually do. think. Therefore,
You know what time it is! This is the section that we speak on random things that we have read, heard, researched or just feel like talking about. This month we ran across something a little intriguing that could be a very interesting insigh into YOU. . From the FACEBOOK page of: AMichial Payne

I was asked by CBS This Morning to do a segment called "Note To Self". It's where you write a letter speaking to your younger self. Have you ever done this? If not, you should. What would you say to the child that you used to be? I'm telling you, it's amazing. Try it. Let me know how it moves you. Here's the link to the one that I did. I truly believe this could be a very touching, emotional, fun, sad, learning assignment. I challenge all my members to take the time to do engage in this little activity. If you do not want to get to deep make it fun. As always, we look forward to seeing what our readers have to share. Thank you Mr. Payne for your post (well wishes), thank you Mr. Perry for your post and thank you all for your time. See you in the next issue of SWERVEmagazine. As I write, I'll sing this song for the greatest love I've ever known. To my heart, you have the only key, I ask God of you, to never set me free. I prayed to God for a love so strong and true; that now, I do, realize He had already knew. So I say to myself.... In time my prayer WAS answered, the most wonderful Man in my life HE *GOD* BLESSED ME WITH YOU so it was answered. What we share feels so right to say *I Love You,* and *I am In Love* with you every day ~ night. Wonderful moments shared, precious memories, still tells me that you care. I see your shadow, as I lay myself to sleep. Dreams of you, oh so sweet in my heart, I will keep. Look into my heart, my life...Tell me, what do you see? Can you feel the need, the want, as I to be your Wife, and you to be my Husband. So Much joy and happiness you've brought me. If I had life to live again, I'd want it to be with you, my lover, my best friend. Always and Forever, I will love you till *ETERNITY.* BY: LADY LA

Good music is good music when the source is authentic and original in its own rendition of the style. Every race is embedded in just about every country in our States and what that means is that we are living new experiences and the music is not as secluded to a single experience as it once was. We all live together thus; we have created a new music together. Rap is no longer black, country is no longer white, pop is as clear as a cold breeze and rock is dark as the light and light as the dark.

If life ever decided to take the black/white label off music, artist would over flow there cup with fans. However, by the labels and stereotypes that come with the mere mention of race it automatically creates anti-fans. How many times have you listened to a song and asked “is she black or is that guy white? ” Depending on the answer, your personal like or dislike for the artist increases or decreases, i.e.the Eminems, Adels, Darius Rukers. Each of this type of artist is in a space of super talent yet (thankfully not with downfall) superseded by their race. These are artist in most forums placed in categories that are primarily dominated by a different race (which in a since creates the illusion of them being “different”). I clearly remember the birth of artist “Emenim”, the major buzz was “o my god this white boy is off the hook” (1996) New Music new melodies new lyrics new beats? Just the same old wrapped in new packaged regurgitated pictorials. When we find ourselves shopping for the latest hits are we really looking at the latest hits on a bias level or is even our musical preference wrapped around racial satire? We say it is because we can identify with that particular genre of music and we even go as far to say, “it’s just something about the particular rhythm” (hmm could be). Well, let’s break away from the norm for a second and catch a spare note on a lone hill top wearing something we would never wear, in other words try a new sound (if only for a day). I was raised on the basic R&B, Rap, with a hint of Jazz and Blues. I am also from a place that shows very little content for Pop and other styles of music. Though we are in a place that has progressed in its acceptance of styles outside of what is played (media wise) to specific demographics we still miss a lot of good music because it’s not played particularly in the area and we just don't seek it out because we don't know about it. This goes especially for my rap heads. I too love my dirty, grimy rap that takes me to the core of street antics and party shenanigans but that is just one perspective of so many attributes of what it portrays. I know ya boys make cringe to hear you playing a Justin Bebier song or see you walking around singing the lyrics to Taylor Swift ballot. You might get clowned for knowing the chorus to some obscure country song or all Spanish salsa song (which is fantastic) but believe me, you will live through the flow of hater-aid and some of “ya boys” will end up liking the taste of the new flava you put in air. I challenge you to open your ears to a new sound and possibly a new adventure, even

(In keeping with our “HOUSEofPOETRY” theme “theHARLEM RENAISSANCE”) this time around we have decided to do something a little on the lighter side of “TalkaboutIT” This October issue brings us close upon the holiday seasons including the busiest and coldest days of the year for some. In respects to the chilling weather it’s time to dust off those old winter boots, take out that old fly winters coat and jump into the hustle and bustle of the frosty city lights. WE are quickly approaching the Christmas season. However, viewers from all over the world read our publications and not all of us celebrate the season, but we still can all enjoy some of the nuances that fill us with good feelings, such as a good movie. From the era that brought Harlem New York some of its most poetic verses, its jazziest blues, its most philosophical minds and chicest styles. November 27th, 2013 Fox Spotlight pictures present a very different movie, something not quite the norm in the urban community, something that can only be classified as, groundbreaking, risk taken, and perhaps award winning. I will not say it is the first of its kind, I will say it is the first of this magnitude to hit this urban generation. It is a black musical made for the big screen. That is right! “Black Nativity“ A musical movie with an all-star black cast that is sure to have the media all a buzz. If you do not get the review s in the main media then I assure you it is not due to lack of talent, this movie is “jammin’” packed: Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige and Tyrese Gibson just to name a few of R&Bs crooners. Needless to say, even if this movie doesn’t live up to the reputation that I personally think it should live up to, I am sure it will guarantee one of the season’s hottest soundtracks since “Waiting to Exhale”. I look forward to having a “TALKaboutIT” in the near future. By: Dosh Join us December to see it this movie hits the “right notes”. CHECK your local listings for screenings.

Though the Witching season is all around ghost and goblins drag through town, souls of mischief rob the graves as demons scream from hells cage. Fire burns and screeches run, tomorrow morning it will all be done.
Though this month filled with the dark side of light GOD still finds divine time to shine in the lives of those that seek him out. MrsTeeDeVaughn GOOD MORNING GOD....Help me to stand for my family MrsTeeDeVaughn View Pulse Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.
