CHARIS GOH 103722789 DIA20003 | SEM 1 2022 ABSTRACT MODEL ON SITE PART FIVE. Building Development
STEP DimensionsONE
Dimensions Initial investigation of the abstract involved studying the dimensions and what could be built from it - the highest part of the model (floor-to-ceiling) could fit two to three floors and the shortest part of the model could fit one floor at most. So the idea to split the levels using ascending and descending ramps became the logical next step to take.
CHARIS GOH 103722789 DIA20003 | SEM 1 2022 BUILDING DEVELOPMENT
The incline of the ground floor base was a natural shape for an amphitheatre. Two types of steps and stairs were investigated - initially the stairs were positioned separate from the amphitheatre steps. However, combining the stairs with the amphitheatre steps hugely improved the comfortability of the stairs - with landings for every four to five risers. AmphitheatreTHREE&Stairs

CHARIS GOH 103722789 DIA20003 | SEM 1 2022
STEP TWO
The first floor was cut using a clipping plane. The opening for the descending ramp was originally narrower - this became an issue as people walking down the ground floor ramp would meet the first floor base at head height. The opening was widened and this not only resolved the initial issue but allowed more light through. Floor planning
Amphitheatre & Stairs
STEP FOUR Windows
Windows The plan for the windows was to provide a 360-degree view of the surroundings. The first attempt didn’t allow enough window height on the first floor for people to look through the window at eye-level - this was resolved. Also, all the windows are double glazed for better thermal insulation and sound proofing.
Entrance Wider steps were designed for the entrance for a welcoming and inviting feel. The entrance fits a double door and leads straight to the ramps on the right and left - both ascending to the first floor and descending to the ground floor (amphitheatre). Entrance
STEP FIVE
CHARIS GOH 103722789 DIA20003 | SEM 1 2022
Balustrades Balustrades for the ground floor were designed to prevent people from accessing areas on ground floor that are below head height - by using vertical timber battens. On the first floor, curved dwarf walls were designed to follow the shape of the first floor.
STEP
Interior spaces WC and Cafe were added as interior spaces on the first floor to fulfill programmic requirements for the community hall. The WC and Cafe were designed to include details (i.e. vertical timber battens) that echo the style of the ground floor balustrades. SEVEN Interior spaces
