瑞士文化活动日历 9月—12月 2016

As an ode to Swiss design, we feature a Swiss designer on the cover of each issue of the Swiss Agenda, by designing it in his or her spirit. 每一期的瑞士文化活动日历，我们都将介绍一位瑞士设计师，并以其作品为灵感设计封面，以向瑞士设计致敬。

Josef Müller–Brockmann

As with most graphic designers that can be classified as part of the Swiss International Style, Joseph Müller-Brockmann (1914-1996) was influenced by the ideas of several different design and art movements, including Constructivism, De Stijl, Suprematism and the Bauhaus. He is perhaps the most well-known Swiss designer and his name is probably the most easily recognized when talking about the period.

One of his most decisive works was done for the Zurich Tonhalle as poster advertisements for its theater productions. He had also published a number of books, among which Grid Systems in Graphic Design has been translated and published in Chinese. To pay tribute to the designer and the book, a lecture on Swiss grid system design will be held during the Beijing Design Week in October (page 24-25).

多数瑞士设计师的风格可以被归为“瑞士国际风格”的一部分，然而，约瑟夫 •米勒－布罗克曼（1914-1996）的设计却可以被看作是由诸多不同设计想法以及不同学派共同影响之下的产物，其中包括构成主义、风格主义、至上主义和包豪斯。布罗克曼是瑞士最著名的平面设计师之一；人们在谈论到他的那个时代的时候，他的名字也是最容易识别并且最具代表性的一个。布罗克曼最有说服力的作品大概是为苏黎世Tonhalle音乐厅设计的舞台剧海报广告。他曾出版过多部书籍，其中《平面设计中的网格系统》一书已被翻译成中文出版。为向设计师及其著作致敬，10月份北京国际设计周期间将举办有关瑞士网格系统讲座（详细信息请参考24-25页）。

Visitors to the pavilion will also have the opportunity to meet Swiss rider Jane Richard Philips, a Longines Ambassador of Elegance, who will share her experience in equestrian. 8

Alphorn Show by Echo Rotberg 瑞士原创阿尔卑斯长号小乐团

Echo Rotberg is coming to China to share the warm sounds of the alphorn, the time-honored musical instrument of the Swiss Alps. The alphorn is a wooden wind instrument featuring a long and conical tube. It was originally used by Swiss shepherds to communicate with their cows and other herdsmen on the neighboring Alps. Over time, it almost disappeared as an instrument. It was only with romanticism of the 19th century and the revival of folklore and tourism that the alphorn experienced a renaissance and even became a national symbol. Echo Rotberg, a seven-member ensemble, has been performing the traditional Swiss music throughout Europe for many years.

阿尔卑斯长号小乐团即将来中国演出，为听众带来历史悠久的瑞士阿尔卑斯山区传统乐器阿尔卑斯长号温情的乐音。阿尔卑斯长号是长长的带有圆锥管的木质号角，最初是瑞士阿尔卑斯山区牧民召唤牧群、与邻近阿尔卑斯山上的其他牧羊人沟通的工具。随着时间的流逝，阿尔卑斯长号作为一种乐器几乎消失殆尽。直到19世纪浪漫主义风行，民间风俗和旅游业复兴，阿尔卑斯长号才获得重生并成为瑞士的一个重要标志。由 7位瑞士艺术家组成的阿尔卑斯长号小乐团多年来曾在欧洲各地演奏瑞士这一传统音乐。

Installation artists Matthias Liechti from Switzerland and Liao Fei from China collaborate on topics interwoven with fundamental questions exploring truth and conventions in society. By questioning these topics, the artists invite visitors to develop a better understanding of their worlds. Liechti, who lives and works in Bern and Basel, is no stranger to China. Following his residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai in 2015, he has grown to be very fond of the city.

The distinctive carnival band Weidfäger and brass band MG Oberrüti will represent Switzerland at this year’s Shanghai Tourism Festival. The bands will be joined by domestic and international ensembles at the opening ceremony on September 10, parading along downtown Huaihai Road. Weidfäger and MG Oberrüti will perform for the public throughout Shanghai over three days, to an estimated eight million audience.

Closet Disco Queen comprises Jonathan Nido and Luc Hess, both of whom have a long touring history with different bands of great fame. The duo delivers powerful, dynamic psychedelic-kraut rock with a strong accent of the 1970s and progressive rock. They released their first album in June, 2015 before embarking on their debut European tour and performing at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. After releasing their new EP, the band is now ready for an all-encompassing China tour in 18 cities.

来自瑞士的Closet Disco Queen乐队由JonathanNido和Luc Hess两位音乐家组成。两人之前都同知名乐队有过长久的巡演历史。Closet Disco Queen传递的是极具力量和活力的迷幻摇滚，兼具 1970年代的浓厚印记以及前卫的摇滚风格。乐队于 2015 年 6 月发行了首张专辑，随后开始在欧洲的首次巡演，并受邀在瑞士著名的蒙特勒爵士音乐节上演出。乐队在今年发行了新的 EP 之后开始在中国18个城市的巡演。

AXIS MUNDI Project from Christophe Polese Christophe Polese的 AXIS MUNDI项目展

Swiss artist Christophe Polese has been an electronic music producer since the early 1990s, nesting between the persistent electro dance and the dark backstage of the post-industrial civilization. At the decks or performing live, his footprints bring him to audiences either in the techno underworld of Geneva or clubs in Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, New York, and elsewhere around the world. Polese also creates sonic installations, such as the interactive Zen garden Tactile and The Sonic Garden. His latest work is Axis Mundi, which is inspired by astronomical observatories in India. Following his fall residency at the Museum of Contemporary Art Pavilion Shanghai, Polese is now prepared to present Axis Mundi.

瑞士艺术家Christophe Polese从90 年代初便开始从事电子音乐制作，穿梭于电子舞蹈和后工业文明时代黑暗的后台之间。不管是在DJ台或者现场表演，他的足迹将他带到了不同的听众面前：从日内瓦地下电子音乐吧到巴黎、巴塞罗那、柏林和纽约以及世界其他各地的各式俱乐部。

Polese同时也创作原声装置，如互动的禅意感知花园和超声花园。他最新的创作名为Axis Mundi，是受印度天文观测台的启发创作而成。 Polese 将于今天秋季在上海艺术馆进行驻留创作；驻留结束后他将在艺术亭举办展览展示 Axis Mundi。

The White Angel: Children of Chernobyl Grown Up is a threeyear project by Swiss photojournalist Niels Ackermann, documenting the lives of youths from Slavutych, a Ukrainian town in the middle of a forest 40 kilometers from the infamous Chernobyl nuclear power plant. His lens focuses on the life of Yulia, a teenager at the time of the Chernobyl disaster, and her transition into adulthood. Despite their hardships, Yulia and her peers strive to build a serene and prosperous future.

《白色天使：成长中的切尔诺贝利儿童》是瑞士摄影记者 Niels Ackermann拍摄的一个三年的项目，记录了乌克兰小镇 Slavutych 上年轻人的生活。 Slavutych 位于离臭名昭著的切尔诺贝利核电站 40 公里的树林里。照片中，Ackermann 的镜头聚焦一个名为 Yulia 的女孩的生活。切尔诺贝利核电事故发生时她还是名青少年，现在已成长为成年人。虽然生活艰辛， Yulia 和她的同伴们一直努力创建安静、富足的未来。

Some 65 photos from the portfolio of late Swiss photojournalist Fernand Gigon (1908-1986) showcase the hardships as well as beauty of everyday life of ordinary Chinese in the 1950s.

展出的 65 幅照片是已故瑞士摄影记者 Fernand Gigon (1908-1986) 丰富作品中的一部分，展示了19 世纪50 年代普通中国老百姓日常生活的苦难和美好。

Traveling extensively across the country, Gigon was particularly impressed by the masses uniting to develop the social economy and find their own path to the modern world. He subsequently focused his lens on ordinary people who kept their pride and dignity under difficult conditions.

方，特别为当时中国大众团结一致发展经济、找寻迈入新时代的道路做出的努力所感动。他也因此将镜头对准了当时的普通人——虽然条件艰苦他们依然保持着骄傲和尊严。

Switzerland’s University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL) has long been recognized as a global cradle for graphic design. Whether designing books, catalogues, magazines, posters, typography, or other digital projects, ECAL students are renowned for their mastery and expertise. Their success is due in no small part to campus workshops which allow them to learn from the best Swiss and international graphic designers. The ECAL Graphic Design exhibition highlights a number of animated and inspiring projects conducted by Bachelor of Graphic Design and Master of Art Direction graduates over the past five years. The selected contemporary works also pay tribute to the influential Swiss-style graphic design featuring minimalist design and simple layout. During the Beijing Design Week, lectures and workshops on Swiss-style graphic design will also be held. 18

Go and cheer for the Swiss International Dragon Boat Team from Suzhou at the annual Shanghai International Chinese Dragon Boat Tournament! The Swiss team, headed by Sonya Loher from Switzerland, will compete against other 27 teams from around the world in two racetracks: 500 meters straight lane race and 5000 meters in a circuit race. Loher, captain of the Swiss team, has been living in Suzhou for seven years with her family. Her team has 16 foreigners, from 12 different countries, together with 11 Chinese team members. 20

Swiss book design artist Sonja Zagermann will share her expertise in the field of VR in printed matters during the Beijing Design Week. The workshop, open to Chinese design professionals and students, wishes to explore and create innovative ways of working on publication in a world of new media art and digital exhibition. An alumna of the prestigious Zurich University of the Arts, Zagermann is the winner of “the most Beautiful Swiss Books” and “Best Book Design from all over the World” in 2014. She gave a workshop on artist book design to young professionals in Beijing in 2015.

瑞士书籍装帧设计师 Sonja Zagermann将在北京国际设计周期间分享她在印刷出版中有关虚拟现实的经验。工作坊对专业设计师和学生开放；希望能够与参与者一起探讨和创造在新媒体艺术和电子展览占主导的环境下出版的新方式。

Real Fiction Cinema, a non-commercial temporary art installation, will start its China premiere in Shanghai on September 27 after travelling extensively in Switzerland. Curated by Swiss curator Klaus Littmann and Dutch artist Job Koelewijn, the project comprises of three cinemas at three locations in Shanghai. It intends to provide a unique perspective of temporary art interventions in public spaces. After Shanghai, the project will go on a tour of 10 cities in China. A book and an independent film will be produced and distributed worldwide after the tour.

The three cinemas will be installed at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Si Nan Mansion and Shanghai Expo area. Each cinema is 12 meters long, 5 meters wide and 2.7 meters tall and can host 23 audiences. A concurrent film projection will be presented at MOCA, where interactions among visitors will take place from these three locations. Free admission. 当代公共艺术装置作品“真实虚构电影院”将于9月27日在上海开启中国巡展首站。作品由瑞士策展人克劳斯·李特曼和荷兰艺术家由布·科里维京共同创作，将在上海的三个地点装置大型的电影院。项目目的在于在公共空间向观众提供当代艺术装置的独特视角。上海之后，电影院将在中国其他 10座城市巡展；最后整个项目将做成一本完整的中国真实虚构电影院的文献图录和独立电影在世界范围内发行。三个真实虚构电影院将出现在上海当代博物馆、思南公馆和上海世博展览馆原址。每个影院是一个总长12米、宽5米，高2.7米的类似集装箱大小的装置，一次可以容纳23个人。在上海当代博物馆的装置中将实现实时传送视频，使三个地点的观众互动。活动免费入场，需通过格瓦拉网(www.gewara.com) 预约。

Following the publication of the Chinese version of Grid Systems in Graphic Design by Josef Müller-Brockmann in June, a lecture on the application of the grid system, typeface, and layout has been scheduled by Pro Helvetia during the Beijing Design Week. Swiss designer Jonas Voegeli, a dual recipient of the Swiss Federal Design Grant, will illustrate with his own projects the Swiss graphic school, usage of the grid system invented by Müller-Brockmann, as well as his creative approach to visual communication. A grid system is a set of measurements a graphic designer can use to align and size objects within a given format. Grid Systems in Graphic Design illustrates all the different aspects of the grid design system. It is referred to as a guideline for graphic designers and typographers worldwide.

In December 2008, Swiss musician Jeroen Visser found himself jamming with Mesele Asmamaw from Ethiopia and Fabien Duscombs from France in the district of Kazanchis, Ethiopia. Their electric chemistry led them to form the band Kazanchis+1, an ode to the district that has brought many musicians and dancers together. With Duscombs holding down lively beats, multi-instrumentalist Visser adds his spirit of experimentation and punk rebellion to Asmamaw’s mastery and innovation on the krar (Ethiopian lyre). The result is a psychedelic-tinged jazz funk. The trio will be in China in October for the World Music Festival. 26

For Swiss artist Rolf Klaus, creating sculptures is about releasing creative energy. Primitive tools such as hayforks, hoes, shovels, and grates are used in his artworks. Klaus favors the ParaART movement, whereby blacksmith tools are made without welding. During his residency in Guangzhou, some of his objects will be further developed and assembled as mobile sculptures.

In October, Swiss pop-jazz band bconnected will perform nine shows across China. Chinese musicians will join the group to provide a sensitivity retransmitted by traditional instruments including the erhu (Chinese fiddle). Their concerts will be at the famous jazz clubs in China, with one of them at this year’s Nine Gates International Jazz Festival in Beijing. Founded in 1994 by guitarist Eugene Montenero, bconnected has enhanced Sino-Swiss cultural exchanges over the years. After more than 17 years of touring the world, bconnected knows how to stay fresh and energetic on stage. 28

According to Swiss Jazz Zeitung newspaper, innovative Swiss jazz trio VEIN is “driving tradition forward with great curiosity, a passion for anything different, highest improvisational finesse, and superb interplay.” Comprising pianist Michael Arbenz, bassist Thomas Lähns, and drummer Florian Arbenz, the trio has been active in Europe’s music scene since 2006 and has shared the stage with renowned jazz musicians. Besides their live shows at a few cities in China, the trio will be featured at the OCT-Loft Jazz and Shunde Music festivals.

The Rainmakers are a prime example of the fruitful exchange between the North and South. Bänz Oester and Ganesh Geymeier come from Switzerland, while Afrika Mkhize and Ayanda Sikade are among the new continent-hopping talents from South Africa. The four of them form a close-knit, inseparable unit. Since the band started in 2012, they have performed across European and African stages to great acclaim. Their music has been described by the Swiss media as “full of joy,” “breathtaking,” “brilliant and animated,” and “inspiring from beginning to end.” 30

Swiss cellist Maja Weber and Swedish pianist Per Lundberg have been playing chamber music together for about two decades, mostly at Ars Amata Zurich. Sharing a strong need for artistic expression, the duo finds their mutual musical passion reflected especially in Beethoven’s music. Indeed, the duo’s name is inspired by Beethoven’s eponymous heroine in the opera Fidelio. During their chamber concerts in China, the musicians will perform in five cities.

Ticino, an Italian-speaking region in southern Switzerland, is known for its palm-lined lakes and the Mediterranean flavor of its architecture and cuisine. Another highlight of this year’s Italian Language Week is the screening of the comedy Vecchi Pazzi by Swiss film director Sabine Boss. Vecchi Pazzi tells the story of an aged diva sent to an elderly home where a former constructionist awaits his own death. The diva has a caring daughter and the constructionist has a nephew determined to claim his inheritance. Through laughter (and a few tears) the film does not disappoint with its heartwarming tale set in the beautiful region of Ticino. Before each screening, two professors from the Faculty of Communication at the University of Lugano will speak about television and film production in Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region.

HB2 is an artistic project of sound and exhibition celebrating the second anniversary of the experimental art space Lab47 in Beijing. For the exhibition, Swiss artist Michael Bodenmann and musician Bit-Tuner will have their artwork exhibited at the small space of 12m2 next to the works of other international artists. The sound event will take place at Modernsky Lab on October 20. Swiss musician Yannick Barman will present a new dimension of his recent artwork Stalker, a mixture of video and jazz-electro music. Experimental music and jazz electro with a Chinese DJ will close the party. 38

The Swiss pavilion at the West Bund Art and Design Fair features the ECAL Graphic Design exhibition, a collection of outstanding art projects by students of leading Swiss design academy the University of Art and Design Lausanne. The selected contemporary works also pay tribute to the influential Swiss school of graphic design, which features minimalist design and simple layout.

Besides the exhibition, a panel discussion on art and museums will also be held at the pavilion. Four distinguished speakers, including directors of Switzerland’s Beyler Foundation, the Museum of Design in Zurich, and ECAL, will offer their insights into design and management of museums. Switzerland Tourism will also use this opportunity to introduce its featured art and museum trips, as well as other cultural highlights of Switzerland to the media and visitors.

Holzwege (or Wood Paths), an exhibition inspired by German philosopher Martin Heidegger, will be launched to open the ShanghART Westbund, the sixth space of the renowned ShanghART gallery in Shanghai. The opening show also celebrates the 20th anniversary of ShanghART, founded by Swiss gallerist Lorenz Helbling in 1996. Helbling started his gallery at a time when there was little market for Chinese artists. Over the years, it has become the home of thousands of works by renowned Chinese artists, and a meeting point for international artists. 42

Referred to as an “artist of the future”, Swiss artist and composer Robin Meier’s interests lie in the emergence of natural and artificial intelligence and the role of humans in a world of machines. In his works, Meier tries to make sense of these questions through musical compositions and installations. His works have been shown at international venues and events, such as Palais de Tokyo and Art Basel Switzerland.

The documentary Cows, Cheese, and Three Kids (Kühe, Käse, und 3 Kinder) produced by Swiss filmmaker Susanna Fanzun has been chosen to close the International Documentary Forum (iDOCS) 2016 in Beijing. In the vast world on the small Gün Alp, everything revolves around three children: Braida, 8; Marchet, 6; and Jon, 3. Life during the summer on the Alps in the Safien Valley consists of cows, cheese, and playful learning through helping out with the daily chores. The children assume a great deal of responsibility for their actions and have an impressive amount of knowledge about the animals and nature. Living, playing, and working on the Alps is starkly juxtaposed with the complex reality of life for many other people. 44

The film raises questions about consumption and the comfort of interconnectedness through media. Following the screening, director Fanzun will join the audience for a discussion of the film and share her experience of its production.

由瑞士导演苏珊娜·梵存拍摄的纪录片《奶牛、奶酪和三个孩子》已被2016北京国际纪录片论坛选为闭幕影片。在位于广阔世界里的一个名为Gün的狭小的阿尔卑斯山区，故事围绕三个孩子布拉伊达（8岁）、马尔赫特（6岁）、和乔恩（3岁）展开。他们在撒菲尔山谷中的夏天整天围绕着奶牛和奶酪，参与劳动，在玩乐中学习。孩子们在自己的日常生活中承担了很多责任，并且对动物和大自然有了深刻的了解。生活、玩耍以及在阿尔卑斯山中劳动同很多其他人的生活呈现了巨大的反差。这部电影旨在引发人们对于消费、舒适的现代生活以及媒体网络等问题的反思。电影放映之后，导演梵存将参与观众问答，并分享纪录片拍摄制作经历。

1000 Dance Postures Before Hanging Oneself

The trio 1000 Dance Postures Before Hanging Oneself is an ensemble of many facets: a music band, a theatre piece, and a dance performance. Its leading Lausanne-based musician, Jamasp Jhabvala, will tour China in December 2016.

《上吊前之千种舞姿》三人组有着不同的层面：他们既是一个乐队，又是一场戏剧，也是一组舞蹈演出。来自洛桑的音乐家Jamasp Jhabvala将于12月份在中国巡演。在11个城市举行的音乐会上，三人组将演绎实验型剧院摇滚，而Jhabvala将用扩音小提琴演奏电子原声独奏。

In these concerts in 11 cities in China, 1000 Dance Postures offers experimental theatrical rock, while Jamasp Jhabvala gives an electro-acoustic solo with amplified violin.

Chamber Concerts: Trio Window

窗之韵三重奏

“Window” refers to both the clarinet and the namesake object as a metaphor. A window invites viewers to escape towards distant and poetic horizons. The Trio Window ensemble therefore wishes to share their passion for music with audiences. The Trio Window is formed by Swiss clarinetist Damien Bachmann, pianist Christian Chamorel, and cellist Estelle Revaz. Each has been lauded in their own right. During their chamber concert tour in China, the ensemble will play classics by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and David Popper. 48

“窗”延伸自管乐 (Wind) 的英文，象征木管乐器单簧管是这个三重奏里的特殊乐器。同时“窗”也是画家用来邀请观者逃离现实，眺望遥远而诗意的地平线的媒介。三重奏借用这个名字表达他们与观众分享音乐之美的愿望与努力。窗之韵三重奏由瑞士单簧管演奏家达米安·巴克曼、钢琴家克里斯蒂安·夏莫赫勒以及大提琴家艾斯黛拉·雷瓦茨组成；每一位艺术家都曾获得媒体的盛赞。在中国的室内乐音乐会期间，三重奏将演绎贝多芬、门德尔松以及大卫· 波佩尔的经典作品。

Knitting is an ancient craft that probably came in the Middle Ages from Persia to Europe, where the first knitters were men. Nowadays, the craft is more commonly associated with women worldwide. In Switzerland and cold regions of China, knitting has become part of female identity. To honor this traditional craft through contemporary artwork, three artists from different disciplines and continents have joined together: Sylvie Xing Chen, a contemporary art performer from China; Heidi Kämpfer, a Swiss interdisciplinary artist and performer; and Gertrud Pinkus, a Swiss film director and cinematographer. Sponsored by the Canton of Zurich in collaboration with the Province of Guangdong, debut performances of Infinitely Entangled are planned in China and Switzerland.

作为一种古老的手工艺，编织大致从中世纪的波斯传入欧洲，最初的编织者大多为男性。当今，这一技艺更多的在世界范围内与女性联系在一起。在瑞士以及在中国的寒冷地区，编织已成为象征女性身份的一部分。为了以当代艺术的形式来纪念此传统工艺，三位来自不同创作领域及国度的艺术家将携手带来独一无二的跨界演出：当代舞蹈艺术家陈星（中国）、跨界艺术家与表演家海蒂·肯普法（瑞士）、摄影师兼电影导演格特鲁德·平库斯（瑞士）。得益于瑞士苏黎世州与广东省的赞助，首次艺术演出将计划在中国与瑞士两地进行。
