As an ode to Swiss design, we feature a Swiss designer on the cover of each issue of the Swiss Agenda, by designing it in his or her spirit. 每一期的瑞士文化活动日历，我们都将介绍一位瑞士设计师，并以其作品为灵感设计封面，以向瑞士设计致敬。

Niklaus Troxler

Born in Willisau, Switzerland in 1947, Niklaus Troxler has pursued his passion for jazz and graphic design since he was a teenager. He organized his first jazz concert when he was 19 and also grew interested in posters by Herbert Leupin and other Swiss graphic designers. After apprenticing as a typographer (1963–67), he studied graphic at the Art School of Lucerne (1967–71). Following graduation, Troxler worked in Paris as art director for Hollenstein Création (1971–72) before returning to Willisau, where he started his own design firm in 1973. Two years later, Troxler launched the first Willisau Jazz Festival. Along the way, Troxler has received prizes in poster competitions in Europe, Russia, and China, including a special award from the Art Directors Club of Switzerland. He has also taught at the State Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart, Germany.

青年甜品师创作驻地计划

About 20 young pastry chefs from Belgium, Canada, France, Switzerland, Morocco, and China will participate in this residency program for three weeks to hone their skills and create new works. Their creations will be showcased during the Francophonie Festival in Beijing. Two young talents from Switzerland, Sara Bezençon and Normand Jubin will attend the residency while renowned Swiss chef Joachim Caula will be working as their coach to guide and develop new recipes with them. An important part of the Francophonie Festival, the young artist residency program, has been well received for its film, dance, and engraving workshops by young professionals in the past years.

The University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL) has long been recognized for advancing Switzerland’s reputation as a leader in graphic design. ECAL graphic design students demonstrate elegance and subtlety through their designs of books, magazines, posters, typography, and other works. The Hong Kong Design Institute is delighted to exhibit around 70 ECAL student projects from the Bachelor of Graphic Design and Master of Art Direction programs as part of a creative exchange between the two institutions.

Throughout his 24-year literary career, award-winning Swiss author Daniel de Roulet from Geneva has penned 10 novels and three autobiographies, documenting 18 historical figures and portraying 29 characters and 12 places. The high-achieving author is renowned for creating “dreamers” in his fictional stories.

During his visit to China for the Francophonie Festival, de Roulet will give readings of his latest publications: Terrestrial Terminal: 200 Love Letters; and You Haven’t seen Anything in Fukushima: About March 11, 2011. During his lecture on the writing and numerical tools, de Roulet, a former director of a computer center at a university hospital, will demonstrate the advantages and limitations of reconstructing novels in the digital age. 来自瑞士日内瓦的获奖作家Daniel de Roulet在其24年的写作生涯中写下了10部小说，3部自传，记录了18个历史人物，创作了 29 个虚拟人物，描绘了 12 个不同的地点。这位高产作家还以在小说中创作“追梦人”的角色而知名。

In 2008, Swiss art director and retired acrobat Ueli Hirzel was invited by Pro Helvetia Shanghai to promote communication and understanding between Chinese and Swiss artists. During this endeavor, he met former Chinese acrobat Ding Yulei. Ding has been lured out of his decade-long retirement by Hirzel and will perform in the 51 Personae project of the 11th Shanghai Biennale. Born in the 1980s, Ding has won international awards for his performances that showcase his expressive body power.

在瑞士文化基金会上海办公室的邀请下，瑞士艺术导演、退休杂技演员Ueli Hirzel于 2008年前往中国，帮助促进中瑞艺术家间的沟通和交流。在此期间，他结识了中国退役杂技演员丁玉磊。在Hirzel的鼓励下，退役十几年的丁玉磊将重返舞台，在 11 届上海双年展的“ 51 人”项目中进行表演。丁玉磊出生于 1980年代，他的表演展示了身体的表现力，曾获得多个国际奖项。

It is autumn and getting colder in Switzerland. Suddenly, an ominous cloud lingers over the country. While it is calm outside, the cloud hangs over the country like the sword of Damocles. People react very differently to the impending storm: some ignore it, others barricade themselves, while yet others celebrate the end of the world. Ten young Swiss filmmakers use this state of widespread uncertainty to provide a snapshot of Switzerland by shining a light on people, mentalities, and social environments in one of the world’s wealthiest countries. The film is a captivating collection of personal vignettes weaved into a bigger story.

After more than 300 concerts, Swiss musician LiA (aka Félicien Donzé) refined his artistic identity upon the release of his third album “Quand l’Homme s’endort” (“When the man falls asleep”) in 2015. LiA, 26, develops and deepens his characteristic simple and sincere way of singing and songwriting in an exploring manner. His songs delve into human mysteries, dreams, languages and inner beings. The result is a kind of rock music with poetic traits. Melancholic without being depressing, his lyrics leave room for music and sound textures to carry the listener into different spheres.

Stop-motion animated film Ma Vie de Courgette (My Life as a Zucchini) by Swiss director Claude Barras was Switzerland’s nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2017 Oscars. In this beautifully animated film, a young boy is sent to a care center after the death of his mother. Contrary to the often dark and depressing images of orphanages, the boy finds comfort, acceptance, and hope with his equally troubled new companions. Director Barras, who tackles a difficult subject matter thoughtfully, will meet the audience following the screenings in Beijing on March 9 and 10. 14

MINUA’s music presents itself in constant alteration, always searching for a manifestation of this subtle beauty that could hide itself in a seemingly unimportant detail. Inspired by renaissance and impressionism, nordic folklore and chamber music, jazz and avant-garde, the musicians - guitarists Kristinn Smári Kristinsson and Luca Aaron, and bass clarinetist Fabian Willmann - act as one unit, dedicating themselves to the collective sound. The borders between improvisation and composition lose their relevance while the only focus lies on the flow of the music.

Swiss musician Nikola Mounoud has more than one title under his belt: a sound artist, noisician, performer, composer or improviser. Riding many musical waves as anyone does, he focuses his work on the exploration of analog, digital and hybrid feedback by using a laptop computer and an analog mixer. His China tour is a collaboration with Chinese musician Mei Zhiyong, who has also been engaged in producing independent films, photography and recordings. Be ready for some powerful cathartic anger each of their public appearances contains during their 45-day Black Hole Tour.

瑞士音乐人 Nikola Mounoud 有很多不同称谓：音响师、混音制造者、表演家、作曲家以及即兴表演家。在驾驭尽可能多的音乐风格的同时，Mounoud 主要通过电脑和类比混音器探索类比、电子和不同的音响结合效果。此次中国巡演是 Mounoud 同中国音乐人梅志勇的一次合作。音乐之外，梅志勇也从事独立电影的制造、摄影和音乐的录制。在他们 45 天的《中国绞肉机》巡演期间，准备好被他们公开表演时的强力宣泄的情绪所带走。

Audiences in Shanghai and Hong Kong are invited to the screenings of Keeper, an award-winning film focusing on the popular topic of teen pregnancy. Maxime and Mélanie, both 15 years old, are in love. One day, Mélanie finds out she is pregnant. While Mélanie has yet to make up her mind about keeping the baby or not, Maxime wants to keep it no matter what. Director Guillaume Senez and Swiss rising star Kacey Mottet Klein give a deep analysis of the characters and the topic.

Dictée de Pivot in China / 毕佛听写

dictation 听写 “La Dictée de Pivot” (“Pivot Dictation”) returns to China for its second time in March 2017. After their initial competition and selection through social media, finalists will be invited to the Swiss Embassy in Beijing for the final competition. Winners will be awarded prizes by organizers. The dictation is co-organized by the embassies of France, Switzerland and Quebec government offices to promote French language learning. The first Dictée de Pivot was held at the Swiss Embassy last year, and its online competition attracted over 30,000 participants from more than 250 Chinese cities.

毕佛听写将于2017年3月份再次在瑞士驻华使馆举办。经过在社交媒体上的首轮竞赛和评选后，进入决赛的选手们将在瑞士使馆进行听写比赛的决赛。获奖者将获得主办方颁发的丰厚奖品。毕佛听写由法国、瑞士使馆和魁北克驻华办事处共同组织，旨在推广法语语言学习。首届毕佛听写于去年在瑞士使馆举办，在线竞赛吸引了来自250多个中国城市的3万多名选手的参与。

An acclaimed exhibition organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Guangzhou and featuring 65 photos by late Swiss photojournalist Fernand Gigon (1908-1986) begins its 2017 China tour in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The photos illuminate the hardships as well as beauty of everyday life of ordinary Chinese in the 1950s. Traveling extensively across the country, Gigon was particularly impressed by the masses uniting to develop the social economy and find their own path to the modern world. He subsequently focused his lens on ordinary people who kept their pride and dignity under difficult conditions. 20

由瑞士驻广州总领馆组织的《新旧之交的中国》摄影展 2017巡展将以广西壮族自治区的南宁市为起点。展出的 65 幅照片是瑞士已故摄影记者 Fernand Gigon (1908-1986) 丰富作品的一部分，展示了19世纪50年代普通中国老百姓日常生活的苦难和美好。 Gigon 于上个世纪走访了中国很多地方，特别为当时中国大众团结一致发展经济、找寻迈入新时代的道路做出的努力所感动。他也因此将镜头对准了当时的普通人——虽然条件艰苦他们依然保持着骄傲和尊严。

Zurich University of the Arts in conjunction with Connecting Spaces Hong Kong-Zurich is now accepting applications for three courses in curatorial management and critical theory as part of their innovative 2017 “Executive Education on Global Culture” program. Topics of the program range from international curating to cultural development in emerging cities to the Chinese Contemporary Art Award. All courses are facilitated by known practitioners in the field of contemporary arts. Future or current curators, academics, students or art practitioners will be able to expand and engage their existing knowledge of international curatorial practices.

The repertoire of the Zurich-born pianist Werner Bärtschi ranges broadly from late Renaissance to contemporary music. His interpretations impress audiences for their spontaneity and thrilling communicative power. As a composer, Bärtschi has more than 40 compositions spanning various genres to his credit. His novel interpretations of the classics give him profound insight into the rich complexity of past masterpieces, while his talent for communication shines through his music. Blue Remix Performance Tour

“Blue Remix” is a follow-up project by performance artist Yann Marussich’s participation in the breathtaking piece “Bain Brisé” during the Swiss Window in Asia tour in March 2016. Seated in a glass cage, the Swiss artist lets a blue-tinted biological liquid (symbolic of wisdom, serenity and dreams) ooze through layers of his skin, representing the movement of the body’s inner processes. The subject expressing the blue ink takes the audience through a human experience that reaches the realm of the supernatural.

《蓝色混响》是瑞士表演艺术家 Yann Marussich 去年3月份在《瑞士亚洲之窗》的突破性巡演作品Bain Brisé的后续之作。端坐于玻璃容器中，艺术家任由一股象征智慧、宁静和梦想的蓝色生物液体流经全身。液体在肌肤上的流动代表了身体内部器官的运动；流动的、具有表达性的液体将观众带向了超自然的境地。

Eighty-five photos by late Swiss Magnum Photographer Werner Bischof (1916-1954) are featured in this exhibition that transports visitors back to Hong Kong in 1952. The photos depict Hong Kong as a rapidly growing community in search of a delicate balance between East and West, old and new, affluence and otherwise, with a strong common desire to begin a new page in this haven of hope. The exhibition commemorates the 100th birthday of Bischof by celebrating his life and achievements.

展览展出的瑞士已故马格南摄影师 Werner Bischof (1916-1954) 的 85 张影像将参观者带回了 1952 年的香港。照片记录了香港作为一个快速发展的社区，在东西方之间、在新旧交替的过程中以及在富裕和贫穷的境况下寻找微妙的平衡。与此同时，她也怀着强烈的期翼在希望的港湾开启新的篇章。展览在Bischof诞辰一百周年之际举办，同时展示了摄影大师的生平和成就。

To observe the 10th anniversary of the of the Sister City Relationship between Basel and Shanghai, the world-renowned Basel Chamber Orchestra will be staging a fantastic concert in Shanghai in April, followed by their performance in Taipei. Throughout its 30-year history, the Basel Chamber Orchestra has become an important cultural vector of Switzerland. Regular invitations to play at large venues as well as the third Echo Klassik prize in 2015 are testament to the extraordinary quality of the ensemble. 26

The concerts in China will be led by conductor Giovanni Antonini with the guest appearance of the celebrated pianist Alexander Romanwsky. The famous Symphony No. 3 by Beethoven and his concerto for piano No. 1 will resonate in the concert halls of Shanghai and Taipei. The orchestra will also perform the contemporary work “Uruk” by composer Martin Jaggi, a native of Basel. 巴塞尔和上海结为姐妹城市10周年年庆之际，世界知名的巴塞尔室内交响乐团将于4月在上海献上一台精彩的音乐会，随后将前往台北演出。

The “Swiss style” of graphic design is best known for the use of minimal grid-based systems and strict rules. It has had great influence on contemporary Swiss designers. However, today the “Swiss style” is much more diverse, emotional, and fun. This exhibition will present an overview of Swiss graphic design over the past five years to reveal a wide range of approaches, techniques, and media utilized by contemporary designers. It will feature around 150 works from different generations and offer an insight into the fascination for details, experimentation and craftsmanship that goes into creating visionary new designs.

瑞士风格的平面设计最为知名的是对网格系统的精简使用和严谨的规定。这一设计风格对瑞士当代设计师也产生了很大的影响。然而，今天的“瑞士风格”其实更加多样、情绪化、活泼有趣。本次展览将向观众呈现的是过去 5年里瑞士的平面设计作品的总览，包括不同的设计方法、技巧以及当代设计师使用的不同媒介。大约150件来自不同年代的设计师的作品向人们展示了设计师们对细节的精益求精、他们的实验探索以及造就全新创意设计的工匠精神。

It has become a tradition that Swiss conductor and composer Patrick Furrer, who is also guest conductor of the Academy Symphony Orchestra of Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, gives an open concert with the academy’s graduates every year. This time, they will be performing Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, Ravel: Mother Goose, and Stravinsky: Petrushka. The concert is free. Tickets are released half an hour before the start of the concerts at the Academy Box Office.

Feel the rhythm between Switzerland and China: a dance culture exchange 中瑞节奏：舞蹈交流工作坊

Now in its fourth year, “East meets West-Brugge baue (Building Bridges)” project will again bring Swiss artists to China in a rich cultural exchange that promotes the preservation of traditions. This year’s workshop is centered on dance. Dancers Crazy Mave and Caro Groove founded their own dance school in 2009, combining various styles including ballet, hip-hop, jazz, and modern dance. Together with Brugge baue, the dancers will introduce Swiss traditional and modern arts with an interactive performance and interesting workshops.

“中西交汇－搭建桥梁”项目在其进行的第四个年头将继续通过丰富的、传承传统的文化项目将瑞士艺术家带往中国进行交流。今年的工作坊聚焦舞蹈。瑞士的舞者 Crazy Mave 和 Caro Groove 早在2009 年便成立了自己的舞蹈学校，将不同的风格，如芭蕾、街舞、爵士以及现代舞结合在一起。同 “中西交汇—搭建桥梁”一起，两位舞者将通过互动表演和趣味工作坊向中国观众介绍瑞士的民族舞蹈和现代舞。

The Animen, a rock and roll indie band from Carouge, Switzerland will make its debut at the Sound of the City festival in April in Beijing. Formed in 2008 by four best friends Théo Wyser, Julien Marty, Guillaume Louis and Robin Schneider, the band plays “Rock ‘n’ Roll from the heart and from the soul”. With the unique voice of the vocalist and the catchy tunes of their songs, the band has made itself a name in Switzerland and is on the way to conquer neighboring countries.

Bern Symphony Orchestra China Tour 伯尔尼交响乐团中国巡演

Founded in 1877, the Bern Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is one of Switzerland’s largest orchestras consisting of about 100 musicians from 20 different nations. In 2011, the orchestra merged with the Municipal Theatre of Berne to become the Concert Theatre Berne Foundation. Led by principal conductor Mario Venzago and pianist Gerhard Oppitz, the BSO plays around 50 concerts per season. In addition to its popular symphony concerts, its concert for the New Year celebration is a cultural highlight of the Swiss capital. The program for its China tour is a selection of significant works from German classics and romantics including Dukas, Strauss, Brahms, and Beethoven.

Celebrated Swiss Chinese pianist Mélodie Zhao will be joining the Chinese Dragon Quartet to stage a concert as part of the NCPA’s May Music Festival. The ensemble will be bringing their interpretations of Franz Joseph Haydn, Mieczyslaw Weinberg and Antonin Dvorak to the audience.

A child prodigy, Zhao is known for both her performance and compositions, and plays often in Switzerland and China. Born in 1994, she recorded her first CD at age 13, setting the world record as the youngest pianist ever to record Chopin’s 24 Etudes. In 2014, she became the youngest pianist in Music History to record the complete Beethoven Piano sonatas.

华裔瑞士知名钢琴家赵梅笛将携手中国的龙弦乐四重奏，在国家大剧院五月音乐节上演音乐会，演奏海顿、梅谢斯拉夫·魏因博格和德沃夏克的经典作品。被称为儿童天才的赵梅笛，以演奏和作曲而知名，经常在瑞士和中国两国间演出。出生于1994年的赵梅笛13岁时录制了自己的第一张唱片，成为迄今年龄最小的完整录制肖邦24 首钢琴练习曲的青年钢琴家。 2014年，赵梅笛成为《音乐史》上完整录制贝多芬钢琴奏鸣曲最年轻的钢琴家。
