“Our mission and intent is to support each reader’s wish to make a difference in their lives. Together, we can make a difference in the local community.” —Dr. Diane Hayden, PhD
elcome to the Winter issue of Essential Naples—a quarterly lifestyle publication in Southwest Florida for health-minded locals who desire credible information on holistic health and well-being trends. If this is the first time you’re picking us up, you’ll find our coverage is 100% local with expert content that interests both Naples residents and professional holistic practitioners. Essential Naples focuses on four essential lifestyle pillars— Health, Relationships, Finance, and Purpose. In each issue, you’ll find articles on wide-ranging topics from local experts in each of these areas who have dug up infinite nuggets of wisdom to share with all of us. Please connect with them, as they make this complimentary magazine possible. I love to start a new year by taking some time to acknowledge everything I accomplished in the past year and celebrate my wins! It may be harder this year to see the positive things that happened in 2021, but that’s why it may be more important to do that this year than any other year. I spend the last week of December and first week of January thoughtfully examining where I am in my life currently and how I feel. Here are the questions I ask myself, and I hope you will take some time to ask them of yourself as well: What if I had only one year to live—what would I do? What places would I visit? Who would I spend my time with? How many of you have contemplated these questions? I mean, seriously contemplated to the point that you have identified all the things you are most passionate about and maybe even created a “100 Things to Do Before I Die” list. Far too many people go through life without making any effort to truly live passionately, to get that fire in their soul for enjoying life and living it to the fullest. One of the worst tragedies in the world is the person who has lost their passion—without passion, how can we accomplish anything meaningful? How do you get your passion back? Spend a weekend, a month, a year identifying what you love, and then do those things. Here’s how: 1. List three times in your life when you were excited and passionate about what you were doing in your career or personal life. What commonalities can you draw from the times you were most passionate? 2. Make a list of what you would do if you only had one year to live. 3. From your one-year-to-live list, take time to explore some of your greatest passions. My greatest hope for you is that you will live completely, fearlessly, and passionately. Wishing you health and happiness,

eurocentric Health and Fitness (NCHF) recently relocated to Naples from Boston. Founder and owner Ildiko (Ildi) Varhelyi brings 20 years of experience helping people with a variety of health issues. While traditional rehabilitation systems are based on a biomechanical approach, Ildi searches for the underlying cause of the injury and applies neuroanatomy to muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. Using brain, body, breath, and the senses—eyes, ears, balance, kinesthetic awareness—and training the senses like we train the muscles are fundamental requirements for realigning the body and regaining proper posture. Traditional practices often overlook the importance of visual and vestibular systems in rehabilitation. However, the most profound aspect of our well-being is based on having a properly functioning sense of balance. Our balance gives us our sense of orientation in space. It tells us when we are upright and how gravity is affecting our bodies by detecting motion in space. It uses three systems to do this: visual (eyes), vestibular (inner ears), and proprioceptive (the ability to sense body positioning) systems. We need to keep these systems sharp, fast, and functioning properly. If any of these systems is damaged or the communication between them is compromised, we have trouble maintaining our equilibrium and falling becomes a greater risk. The faster and more accurately we can react to our environment, the better chance we have of avoiding fall-related injuries. NCHF provides a motivated client with cutting-edge drills and exercises to maximize the brain and body potential, creating efficient movement and helping to prevent any further bodily damage. We can help you to move beyond limits!
Ildi specializes in injury rehabilitation and injury prevention, chronic pain management, movement therapy, and fitness and wellness coaching. She employs a brain-based approach that brings faster, more effective, and longer-lasting results than many traditional approaches. Is Cellular Therapy Useful for
Back, Knees, and Neuropathies? By Dr. Richard Hiler, DABCN
Help Yourself Feel Your Best
Feel Amazing Spine and Joint Institute helps patients with joint issues, musculoskeletal issues, and neuropathic conditions that may benefit from cellular therapy combined with our other state-ofthe-art technologies. • Peripheral neuropathy (nerve pain or numbness/tingling): Most clinics that treat peripheral neuropathy patients combine one or more therapies such as lasers, LED and infrared lights, shockwave/acoustic wave, and Hako-med horizontal electrical signaling therapies. When we combine cellular therapies with any or all of these, the potential for a successful outcome is greatly increased.
• Spine pain (neck or back): Chiropractic, physical therapy, and spinal decompression therapy treatments are highly successful at relieving chronic spine pain. When combined with cellular therapy, the success can be even greater. • Knee pain: Mechanical issues of the knee may be relieved by treating the alignment and muscles that move and stabilize the joint. Shockwave therapy and laser lights can reduce pain and inflammation and viscosupplementation (hyaluronic acid molecule injections) can lubricate and cushion the joint. When these treatments are combined with cellular tissue matrix injections, it greatly increases the opportunity for a favorable outcome. Feel Amazing Institute has proudly served the Naples area with comprehensive physical medicine, regenerative medicine, and chiropractic services since 1998. If you are looking for treatment of bulging discs and/or herniations, neck or back pain, spinal misalignment and correction, sciatica, or neuropathy, you have found the right place for your health care needs. We have comprehensive programs if you sustained injuries in an auto accident or at work, or if you have peripheral neuropathy, balance disorders, or need VAX-D spinal decompression treatments. Our office strives for excellence, and we are consistently furthering our education and techniques to improve the care you receive in our office. Whether you suffer from chronic pain, are recovering from an injury, or are seeking overall improved health and performance, we have the skills and experience to help you work toward your goals. •

ellular therapy, formerly referred to as stem cell therapy, has some of the most exciting treatment potential in medicine today. Cellular therapy is a tissue-support matrix derived from an allograft of transplanted umbilical cord, placenta, or concentrated amniotic fluid. The matrix, which is injected into damaged areas of the body to promote regeneration and healing, supports the tissue and coverings for joints, tendons, ligaments, and other musculoskeletal applications. The products have anti-inflammatory growth factors, hyaluronan, elastin, collagen fibers, cytokines, and nanoparticles, which stimulate and benefit tissue repair. Stem cells are the body’s master cells—they are undifferentiated cells, which allows them to develop into other types of cells that are required to repair or replace damaged tissue. Some cellular therapy products may contain live mesenchymal stem cells, although those treatments do not claim dependence on the metabolic activity of these living cells for its primary function.

o any of these statements sound like something you’ve heard before? • “You just need to cut your carbs!” • “Try the (enter fad diet here)!” • “Do more cardio!” • “Fruit is bad!” • “My metabolism is broken!” • “I have tried it all and nothing works!” Well, these statements are false. All of them. As a fitness and wellness expert with over 16 years of experience, I hear them all the time. It’s unfortunate that many people feel this way because in addition to being false, these statements are restrictive, extreme, and negative. However, many people believe them because of the prevalent misinformation in the fitness, health, and wellness industry.
Long-Term, Sustainable Results
Often, the so-called professionals marketing these extreme diets and products are not qualified or educated in the real scientific principles of fitness, nutrition, and recovery—and even if they are, they are taking advantage of their audience not being informed about health and fitness science. They make these bold claims to gain attention or sell a product or service—and unfortunately, it works. Many people are looking for the “quick-fix” to look and feel better; they don’t want to invest the time and energy it takes to learn about how to control their body and their health. However, TriCore Wellness is different. We are here to help save you from the traps of fad diets, extreme weight loss programs, bogus supplements,
and scare tactics that have infiltrated the fitness and wellness industry. TriCore is a wellness management company that specializes in highperformance health coaching, nutrition, and online training. We are focused on the integration of technology, health data, and professional coaching that captures and analyzes your fitness, nutrition, and recovery information to develop plans, coaching strategies, and detailed analysis that will help you achieve any health and performance goal. Our program and our process are different. We take a science-based approach, prioritize educating our clients, leverage technology for the best possible results, and are experts in accountability coaching. We take an individualized and customized approach to managing our clients, developing customized plans and programs made specific to each client’s needs. Most importantly, we focus on complete wellness.
A Program That Works
When clients come to us, they are frustrated to say the least. They have typically starved themselves, increased their cardio, and placed extreme restrictions on their lives to achieve weight loss—only to discover the loss is temporary and often hitting a plateau and not knowing what to do next. This is why having a professional coach and being held accountable to a plan that ensures health and performance is key.

Losing “weight” can mean many things. Are you losing muscle, water, or bone mass? Or are you losing fat? What exactly is causing the number on the scale to decrease? It is important to know that simply losing “weight” is not the goal—the desired result is losing fat mass. But with quick fixes and fad diets, how do you really know what you’re losing? With our program at TriCore, we measure all of your body stats to ensure you’re losing weight the healthy way, including: • Muscle mass • Water percent • Fat mass • Bone density • Blood chemistry These details are vital to ensure the program you are on is working. In addition, we track these stats to ensure you are holding yourself accountable and following our plan.
The TriCore Wellness App!

Losing Fat Mass vs. Losing “Weight”
Our clients are successful because of education and accountability. We educate our clients to help optimize their metabolism…regardless of age and body type. This is a very intimate process—we need to know about clients’ lifestyle habits, blood chemistry, stressors, family history, health history, athletic history, and more! To help the person, you have to know the person—and we have a proprietary process for this. And through our program, clients discover some unexpected benefits: • Eat more and still lose weight. • Do less cardio and still burn fat. • Drink alcohol and still reach their goals. • Eat those carbs. But don’t take our word for it. This video link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUxtqroiw40) is filled with testimonials from clients who wanted to share their success, including: • Business owners who wanted to get off medications. • Cancer survivors who wanted to get their life back. • Former athletes who needed help getting back on track. • Healthcare workers who used food to manage their eczema and inflammation. • Parents who needed a simplified plan for their busy lives. • Former bodybuilders who realized they needed a coach. • People who have “tried it all, and nothing works.” If all of this sounds like you and you are ready to take control of your health, educate yourself, be held accountable, and have a simplified plan, TriCore Wellness is your solution. We are not here for the quick fixes and a fad diets—we want to help people who want health, performance, and long-lasting results! •

Love Your
Liver
WINTER 2022
10
By Betsy Opyt, RD, LD/N, CDE, RYT
“The liver is an amazing organ that can selfregenerate and performs more than 500 functions in the body, including the regulation of adrenal and thyroid hormones as well as cholesterol production.” —Betsy Opyt, RD, LD/N, CSE, RYT
I
t is rare—if ever—that you take part of your day to send gratitude to one of your organs or body systems. In fact, have you ever taken a moment to fully understand how your heart beats, your lungs breathe, or your liver detoxes? How often do you think of all your amazing system functions and how your body works hard to keep you alive? While you are waiting in line trying to decide which Starbucks coffee you are going to order, your body is working on its own without you having a conscious thought on how it operates. You are composed of around 37 trillion cells, each with their own unique function in your body. You have 10 times more bacteria in your body than you have human cells, and they too have a unique function, working with your own cells and systems to keep you balanced. As you know, the body is not made of isolated systems—each independent body part and system fits together like puzzle pieces; each organ/gland working synergistically with others to create the whole you.
Are Our Livers Failing Us… or Are We Failing Them?
Understanding how our bodies work is vital to our health because an increasing number of Americans are becoming sicker and weaker, struggling with
weight, depression, toxins, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, metabolic issues, and low immunity. In addition to all that, there is a silent disease progression that is going unnoticed but is joining the ranks of serious health issues including high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. This sneaky disease is called Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), and it has doubled over the past 20 years and now affects 25–33% of Americans. What has happened to cause this burden on the liver? Ultimately, our increase in alcohol, caffeine, toxic chemicals and heavy metals, processed foods (high fructose corn syrup, trans fats and seed oils), hormonal imbalances, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, negative emotions (fear/depression/sadness), and overfeeding are largely to blame. When the liver is sluggish and adipose tissue can’t store fat fast enough, the liver can become clogged with excess fat. The liver then begins to function as an “overflow” system for fat storage, resulting in a vicious cycle that causes the metabolism to become dysfunctional and leads to weight gain, rising triglycerides, insulin resistance, elevated blood sugars, and inflammation in the body, causing vascular inflammation and elevated cholesterol. As you can see, it is not one organ, but many organs/systems working together—or not functioning well at all.

Don’t give up hope—you can play a role in helping your liver stay healthy and function well. The liver is an amazing organ that can self-regenerate and performs more than 500 functions in the body, including the regulation of adrenal and thyroid hormones as well as cholesterol production. And although the liver is one of the primary detoxification organs, we can help it do its job by not adding additional burden to it. The liver is a busy organ, so help it along! Let’s give our liver some love and gratitude by giving it a little “thank you” and following these suggestions: • Reduce toxic burden: Eat organic, use filtered water and air, remove plastics and harsh chemicals in your cleaning supplies and selfcare products, and remove processed foods from your diet. • Self-care: Increase circulation and sweat it out in a sauna or work out three times a week to help release toxins, dry brush to move the lymphatic system, and get a good night’s sleep to give the liver time to detox and repair. Try castor oil packs over the liver, take an Epsom salt bath, and release those negative emotions! • Nutrition: Bitter foods are one of the best ways to improve digestion and help the liver/gallbladder function. Other great food sources are milk thistle, artichoke, beetroot, blueberries, cruciferous vegetables, coriander, grapefruit, lemon and lime, turmeric, garlic, onions, and cilantro; add supplements such as resveratrol and vitamin D; cut out processed foods—especially refined sugars, high fructose corn syrup, and inflammatory oils such as vegetable, seed, and soybean oils; and finally, eat smaller portions throughout the day . •

the Revolution?

“The O-Shot is an all-natural, painless, non-surgical procedure that can rejuvenate and revitalize vaginal and clitoral function, giving you dramatically improved sensitivity and significantly enhance your sex life.” —Dr. Sonia Manganello
C
all it the shot heard round the world—only this time, the revolution is on behalf of modern women. The O-Shot ® (or Orgasm Shot ®) is a new, noninvasive treatment that aims to alleviate female sexual dysfunction by extracting PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, from a woman’s own blood and injecting it directly into the vaginal area. As Charles Runels, an Alabama cosmetic doctor (who is better known as the creator of the Vampire Facial, made famous when Kim Kardashian had the procedure done on TV), explains, the O-Shot uses PRP to stimulate the growth of new cells in a woman’s vaginal walls and clitoris. According to Runels, the platelets, which the body utilizes to naturally generate tissue, increase not only the number of cells, but sensitivity to stimulation as well. Runels says he was inspired by the array of treatments available for men dealing with sexual problems—with everything from Viagra to penile implants as a remedy—and the glaring void when it came to female sexual dysfunction, even though more than 40 percent of American women are estimated to suffer from it. Runels is incredibly confident about the new technique—he just can’t believe no one has tried it sooner. “Over 10,000 papers have been published about how PRP rejuvenates tissue, but no one had ever tried it
as a way to rejuvenate vaginal tissue for women,” says Runels. “When I started trying this [method] and saw how it worked for the face, it become apparent that it could also be extremely beneficial for the genitalia.”
What Is the O-Shot?
The O-Shot is an all-natural, painless, non-surgical procedure that can rejuvenate and revitalize vaginal and clitoral function, giving you dramatically improved sensitivity and significantly enhance your sex life. Additionally, many women lose urine while coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercising. It can be an embarrassing and frustrating problem. Because the O-Shot procedure offers rejuvenating capabilities, there is help available without the need for invasive surgery. The O-Shot is an in-office procedure that uses a centrifuge and specialized method to isolate platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your own blood. Then, using a very tiny needle, the PRP is injected back into the clitoris and upper vagina into the area most important for the sexual response, the O-spot. The O-Shot can help: • Decreased libido (sex drive) • Stress urinary incontinence • Dryness (with resulting painful intercourse) from menopause or from breast cancer treatment • Decreased ability to orgasm • Urge urinary incontinence • Lichen sclerosus • Lichen planus • Postpartum fecal incontinence • Chronic pain from trauma from childbirth (episiotomy scars) • Chronic pain from mesh • Chronic interstitial cystitis Commonly asked questions about the O-Shot: • Who is the ideal candidate for an O-Shot procedure? Women who experience difficulty achieving orgasm and/or those with urinary incontinence. An O-Shot is not recommended for those seeking treatment for certain sexual dysfunctions such as dyspareunia. • What is the average recovery associated with an O-Shot procedure? There is little to not downtime associated with an O-Shot procedure. Patients may feel a sense of fullness in the vaginal area, experience an altered urinary stream, or notice swelling for a few days. All normal activities, however, including sex, may be resumed the same day. • What are the potential side effects of an O-Shot procedure? to Lose Weight, Once and For All
By Dr. Carol L. Roberts, MD, ABIHM
14 WINTER 2022
T “A healthy, fit body will look good in a burlap sack, and the person inside that body will feel good, too.” —Carol L. Roberts, MD, ABIHM
ired of gaining and losing the same 10 pounds over and over again? Dismayed by the rolls around your middle? Want to know the secret of maintaining a healthy weight for the rest of your life? As a doctor of functional medicine with 30 years of experience, I have a few tips to share. The key to losing weight is to gain fitness. Broaden your view and graduate from the very limited idea that a number on the scale is your goal. Rather, focus on the idea that your health and your energy is something you can improve through acquiring better habits. Looking and feeding good depends on that—not on weight loss alone. What is the most important item in your wardrobe? No, it’s not your bra or your girdle or even your designer jeans. It’s your body! A healthy, fit body will look good in a burlap sack, and the person inside that body will feel good, too. What follows are the main ingredients for lifelong fitness. Listen and learn, then do. Make changes little by little, but always keep the goal in mind. These suggestions for lifestyle changes are based upon the promise that the ancestral way of life is what we are adapted to, and the closer we get to “natural” choices, the better we will feel, perform, relax, and enjoy. There are plenty of studies to support this claim, but the real test is by you, for you, on you. Try it this year and see what happens.
Health Tips to Live By
Below are six tips to help reach your ultimate goals:
1
Sleep
Go to bed when it gets dark and wake up with the dawn—no screens, no stimulants, no drugs. Meditate, take a hot bath, use Epsom salts or take magnesium supplements. Sleep is like an essential nutrient—if you don’t have it, your brain will not work properly. If sleep is a problem for you, address the potential cause or causes, such as too much stress, caffeine, screen time, responsibility, or worry, or not enough exercise, magnesium, or iodine, or time to relax or be outdoors. Breathing problems at night are often caused by milk-based dairy products or mold in the house.
2
Healthy diet
Eat a whole food, mostly plant-based diet. Protein and fats in moderation will keep you from getting hungry, and the sheer volume of veggies can fill you up. The typical American’s diet (high carbs with bad fats) produces inflammation that keeps joints stiff and sore, and gut activity is unpredictable. An organic, whole food diet provides more natural nutrition. Choosing organic foods also
helps you most of the poisons, toxins, and pesticides that are used to grow food in this country. The volume of brain-damaging chemicals we pour onto our grains, into our animal feed, and thereby into our children, is staggering.
3
Integrative Functional Nutrition Specialist
Movement
Move your body, often and with pleasure. Exercise should feel good, revitalize you, and keep you limber and strong. If you’re just starting a new exercise routine, it’s important to first consult with a physician before taking action.
4
Junk food
5

Hormone levels are critically important for both women and men, and especially for older people. Hormone deficiencies can be addressed by a doctor, who may prescribe bioidentical hormones that send “youthifying” messages to your cells and keep your weight in proper balance.
Treat yourself right
Never degrade yourself, in your thoughts or deeds. That means no starvation, no severe fasts, and no thinking bad thoughts. You must be your own best friend and be honest with yourself. This year must be the year you get your act together. It’s not an act, though, because you really can start enjoying the rest of your life! Will you be able to stand up out of your comfy chair by yourself, no matter your age? Climb in and out of a bathtub safely? Drive a car as far as you want? Dance at your 75th wedding anniversary? Take the long view. Make your changes as rapidly or slowly as you wish. Just do it. Oh, and watch the weight roll off—never to return again! •

Eradicate Bacteria
ESSENTIAL Naples
with the Scalar Light Pathogenic Cleanse
By Tom Paladino
WINTER 2022
16 “As a fundamental force in nature, scalar light can disrupt or negate the molecular structure of Helicobacter pylori, causing it to transmute or fragment and to subsequently cease to exist as an infectious agent.” —Tom Paladino
S
calar light is the omnipresence that serves as the animating force for all activity in the universe—it is a direct expression from God, the Creator. Additionally, scalar light is the universal carrier wave for all instructions, serving to bring order out of chaos in the universe. Thus, scalar light is a perfect energy that promotes our spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical well-being. In other words, a perfect environment of scalar light will produce a perfect, quantum homeostasis, or divine providence. Because scalar light is the initial, fundamental energy created by the Sun and the stars of the universe, they serve as the “storehouses” of the divine light. All energy initiates as scalar light, although as a derivative of scalar energy, electromagnetic energy is an inferior, degraded form of energy. The laws that govern scalar energy are different from the laws that govern electromagnetic energy. One of the functions of scalar light is to assemble and maintain all physical forms in the universe; there are scalar light instruments that assemble as well as disassemble physical forms. Specifically, scalar light instruments are able to disassemble the molecular bonds that assemble and maintain pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoan, and prions.
How Scalar Energy Affects Helicobacter pylori
Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that was first identified in 1982 by Australian scientists Barry Marshall and Robin Warren. This bacterium
typically resides in the stomach but is also found in other parts of the body. Approximately 50% of the world population harbors Helicobacter pylori in their upper gastrointestinal tract; however, most do not experience complications as a result. Helicobacter pylori has been identified as the causative agent of colorectal polyps, gastritis, peptic ulcers, stomach cancer, and colorectal cancer. Additionally, it can form biofilms and typically utilizes its flagella in order to burrow into the mucus lining of the stomach, thereby infecting the epithelial cells. This attack on the mucus lining of the stomach serves to compromise the lining of the stomach, allowing acid to penetrate this surface. As a result, acid can now travel through the lining, causing ulcers that further exacerbate human health and leads to infections, internal bleeding, and disrupts food from being properly transported and metabolized. The scalar light pathogenic cleanse has been developed in order to easily and painlessly disassemble and eradicate Helicobacter pylori from the quantum, human body. As a fundamental force in nature, scalar light can disrupt or negate the molecular structure of Helicobacter pylori, causing it to transmute or fragment and to subsequently cease to exist as an infectious agent. Specifically, the scalar light pathogenic cleanse broadcasts the reversephase angle harmonic or quantum instruction of Helicobacter pylori into a person’s quantum field, serving to disassemble or transmute the bacterium. In practice, scalar light disassembles or transmutes
the molecular structure of Helicobacter pylori into smaller, harmless physical forms such as elements and proteins. Ultimately, the scalar light pathogenic cleanse will prove to be a preventive measure against some forms of colorectal polyps, gastritis, peptic ulcers, stomach cancer, and colorectal cancer caused by the infection of Helicobacter pylori. Additionally, the toxins inside Helicobacter pylori are disassembled and eradicated by way of the scalar light pathogenic cleanse. As a result, the transmutation of the bacterium as well as the associated toxins causes theses harmful substances to cease to exist. It is crucial to note that the scalar light pathogenic cleanse is a scalar light reaction—not a chemical reaction. Hence, there is no die-off effect associated with the scalar light pathogenic cleanse as there is with pharmaceutical products and other chemical agents.

The scalar light pathogenic cleanse transmutes Helicobacter pylori and toxins into smaller, harmless physical forms; therefore, it is a safe and effective treatment modality designed to either cure or prevent quantum, pathogenic disease. All scalar light sessions are administered exclusively upon photographs of people, animals, plants and objects; the scalar light force fields embodied upon photographs are influenced by scalar light instruments. Scalar light is a new and emerging science and thus the terms, words, descriptions, theories, test results, scalar light sessions, diagnostic test results, testimonies, and so on reflect the body of evidence of this new branch of physics. The terms and expressions utilized to describe scalar light action do not have a linguistic equivalent to any other science or discipline; therefore, these terms and expressions are unique to the discipline of scalar light. •

Brain-Based Exercise and Wellness Coaching for Optimal Health and Longevity
“Training the brain is a must if we want to achieve optimal health and longevity.” —Ildi Varhelyi
O
ur inboxes, text messages, and even TV ads bring us promises of good health. But health shouldn’t be just a New Year’s resolution that gets abandoned after a few weeks. Instead, this year why not explore how health and resiliency can be achieved when we learn to harness the power that our brain plays in wellness? Take a minute and look at your body and your health. Where were you five years ago? Where are you now? And most importantly, where would you like to be in five years? Are you maintaining, are you thriving, or are you declining? Be truly honest with yourself. Making a change is never easy, but it’s the only way to get better.
What do vertigo, stiff neck, sciatica, headaches, anxiety and poor sports performance have in common? The brain! You might not realize it, but every problem we encounter in our physical, cognitive, and emotional health originates in the brain. All the health issues listed above are forms of a “glitch” in the brain and the nervous system and are the result of miscommunication and misfiring of nerve cells. When these irregularities continue to reoccur, they will physically and anatomically alter the brain structure and end up reshaping brain function as well. Scientific research shows that the brain and the body work collectively via a constant loop–feedback system using our sensory systems: sight, hearing, balance, smell, taste, and touch. All sensory
Six Pillars for Training the Brain
• Mindfulness: What you think, you become. We have about 70,000 thoughts a day. • Breathing: Master the breath, control the mind, command the body. Breathing through
the mouth activates the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), also known as the “fight or flight” system. Mouth breathing shortens all muscles in the body, leading to tightness and injuries. It also restricts blood flow throughout the entire body, slowing down metabolism and often creating anxiety and lethargy. However, breathing through the nose activates the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS), also known as the “rest and digest” system. Nasal breathing maintains homeostasis and balance in the body, expands arteries for better circulation, lengthens muscles for better movement, and increases metabolism and energy production for focusing, learning, and sport performance. We take about 20,000–23,000 breaths a day. When each breath is compromised and we repeat a compromised pattern 20,000 times a day, we set ourselves
• Sensory re-education: If we cannot make sense of the world, how can we navigate in it?
We need good eyesight. Did you know that vision issues can also cause balance and postural problems, headaches, and muscle stiffness? Try these exercises: • https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=08ejs4eoijQ • https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=52MEbQZ1_pM Our inner ear (vestibular system) needs to work well for hearing, balance, and fall prevention; for sensing gravity, for maintaining body ownership, for reacting quickly to the ever-changing environment. Are you aware that pain sensitivity, learning abilities, moodiness, and constant fatigue can be symptoms of a weakened inner ear function? Of course, we also need to train the rest of the senses: smell, taste, hearing, and touch receptors. • Sleep: Invest in rest. What is your sleep hygiene? Good quality sleep and enough hours are needed for full physical recovery, memory formation, learning, immune function, pain tolerance, and weight management.
“This year, why not explore how health and resiliency can be achieved when we learn to harness the power that our brain plays in wellness?” —Ildi Varhelyi
• Nutrition: We cannot out-exercise bad nutrition. Be conscious and pay attention to how you
feel after meals. Are you energized and alert? Are you sluggish and sleepy? Make sure that you’re well informed of any food sensitivities, allergies, and intolerance. And of course, portion control! Until we have covered all of the essential elements, we cannot really say that we have tried everything. •
Ildiko (Ildi) Varhelyi recently moved to Naples from Boston, bringing 20 years of experience helping people with a variety of health issues. Are you aware of your thoughts? Self-awareness throughout the day is imperative for making a change.
up for complications. Just think about doing 20,000 bicep curls with the wrong form! How many times do you breathe through the mouth, activating the SNS, instead of breathing through the nose and activating the PSNS? Are you setting yourself up for success or failure with your breathing patterns? • Movement: Movement is life. The more compromised our movements are, the less enjoyable and more limited our life becomes. Do you move freely, or do you fear movement? For example, does it scare you going up and down stairs, picking up your grocery bags, or reaching above your head? To move well, it’s essential to mobilize all joints and stretch and strengthen the muscles.
ESSENTIAL Naples
information travels through the nervous system. The brain then integrates the information and “commands” the muscles to move in a certain way. When sensory information is compromised, the brain cannot possibly make the best decision about how we should move, think, or feel. All restrictions in the brain will show up in the physical, mental, or emotional body. Those restraints travel back to the brain via the loop, creating more misfiring of the nerves, compromising brain function even further. Our movements, thoughts, actions, and feelings mirror exactly what happens in our brains. For example, our walking speed is a direct reflection of how fast our brain is able to process information. We all want to be vibrant and live a long healthy life. So we exercise and eat well, but oftentimes we don’t get the results that we expect. I’ve heard, “I have tried everything! I exercise and eat well yet I have no energy, I have balance issues, I’m in constant pain, I cannot lose weight!” Training the brain is a must if we want to achieve optimal health and longevity. Thankfully, there are six commonsensical pillars that can easily guide us.

Stronger Bones in Just 15 Minutes a Week
By Wesley Peixoto
“OsteoStrong… boasts improvements in strength, balance, joint pain, and posture in more than 100,000 people. In a study of 500 clients, strength improved by an average of 73 percent after the first year.” —Wesley Peixoto
D
ebra Marchese was one of the first customers at the newest location of OsteoStrong, a patented system of four machines that apply pressure to the skeletal system to stimulate bone growth. After the success of OsteoStrong Fort Myers, a new studio was open in Naples, at Galleria Shoppes at Vanderbilt. Marchese was diagnosed with osteoporosis—a porous bone condition, usually a consequence of aging, that causes bones to become fragile and susceptible to fracture. “I was aware I had bone issues and did use a less intense drug for a few months until that was taken off the market,” said Debra. “The results from my last bone scan were bad, and I knew it was time to address this because of my age.” In the meantime, Debra found OsteoStrong and learned how it triggers the body’s natural response to create new bone. “What I like to call a divine intervention, a phone call came to me.
[It was] a lovely mom looking for ballet lessons for her daughter. I teach adaptive ballet, and her daughter is not special needs. During the conversation, she told me the best word I have ever heard: OsteoStrong. I immediately felt hope. I do not want to inject drugs.”
Your Neural System Is Signaled to Build More Bone
OsteoStrong is a system of four machines that have no weights or pulleys. The user safely pushes as hard as they can for a brief moment in four different static positions. During these “trigger events,” bone cells called osteocytes signal the neural system to build more bone. The routine takes only fifteen minutes once a week, and the user barely break s a sweat. A computer program provides constant biofeedback and allows progress to be tracked over months and years.
OsteoStrong has over 150 locations worldwide and boasts improvements in strength, balance, joint pain, and posture in more than 100,000 people. In a study of 500 clients, strength improved by an average of 73 percent after the first year. Biomedical engineer John Jaquish co-founded the company after creating the machines in 2010 to help his mother, who was diagnosed with osteoporosis in her late 60s. After 18 months, she had reversed her bone loss. Today, his mother works in her garden, moving large vases around and carrying heavy bags of mulch.

Many clients are people fighting osteoporosis or back and joint pain, but the system can be helpful for people of all ages in preventing injuries and improving athletic performance. Instructor to golf’s greatest champions, Rick Smith; tennis player and former ATP-100 Jeff Salzenstein; and NFL alumni are among those who praise the benefits of Osteostrong. Spine specialist Rikin Patel, DO, says that the skeletal system is the frame on which we move. “Like the chassis of a car, it supports us throughout our ride called life. A 2006 Honda Odyssey may hit 120 miles per hour, and the engine still hums, but the frame rattles like the roof is about to fly off. In our own lives, the importance of maintaining our chassis was never as important as it is today. In the 1960s, the life expectancy was around 70. By 2000 it became 75, and today, it’s 85+. In my 10 years of practicing, the trouble that I have seen is that your engine will go, but the chassis will begin to say no. That leads to pain, frailty and compromised quality of life.” Whether you suffer from osteoporosis, joint pain, or injury or simply want to improve athletic performance, OsteoStrong may be the solution you’ve been looking for. That is why Dr. Patel refers OsteoStrong to many of his patients: “The benefit goes beyond building strong bones. Improvements can be seen in balance, posture, strength, and athletic performance for any age group. Furthermore, while it may be a little premature to proclaim, in my opinion, this may turn out to be the key to a future of pain-free living.” •

This hidden gem of a farm conducts virtual and in-person trainings (accessible to anyone) showcasing research from university professors, farmers, and other industry leaders in the arena of developing sustainable food systems, food security, nutrition, land and natural resource management, appropriate technologies, and more. This farm is a hot spot to visit in Florida by horticultural hobbyists, novices, and experts alike, all seeking to learn about permaculture, agroforestry, tropical ecosystems, and sustainability. It’s a place that offers a Saturday produce market, an extensive nursery of rare tropical plants/fruits, a book and gift shop showcasing handmade, fair-trade art from small communities in Africa and Southeast Asia. It offers for all who come to the farm a schedule of gardening courses, guided educational tours, and an annual International Farm + Food Festival that hosts thousands of guests. Did you know that 70% of the world’s population depends on small-scale farmers for most or all of their food? The work done by this organization creates ecologically and culturally sustainable solutions, with exponentially
produced food resources. Did you know that you have access to all of this—and more—at a single 45+ acre campus right here in SWFL? Maybe you’ve been there as a student or volunteer, maybe you’re a rare-plant collector and have gone to find a unique Madagascar vanilla orchid or have attended one of the Farm + Food Festivals, but by and large, it is one of SWFL’s crowning gems and in many ways is still one of our best-kept secrets. It is Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization (ECHO) Global Farm, Nursery, and Education Center or ECHO Global Farm for short, located in North Ft. ECHO Farms + The Garden Island— Connecting to a Piece of Home
Where do I start when describing ECHO? I think for me, it was about 20 years ago while studying at FGCU, after having recently moved here from Kauai, Hawaii. My home island is known as the “garden island” because of its overabundance of lush vegetation, tropical rainforests, high elevations swamps, ever-growing forests with wild fruits and bright tropical flowers, its abundance of waterfalls, natural landscapes with dramatic beauty, and world-renowned biodiversity (home to many indigenous and

an endemic species of wild chickens clucking and crowing nearly everywhere on the island. From the first time, whenever I walk onto the campus of ECHO Global Farm it’s as if I’m being transported in time and space to that same paradise in Hawaii where I grew up. Many hear the word “farm” and think of cleared fields with long, straight, never-ending rows growing fruits and veggies. However, as you transverse the maze-like paths at ECHO, you find yourself on the most amazing scavenger hunt. Amid a very similar canopy of old growth tropical trees, a dirt path cuts through a small grove of mature carambola trees, branches laden with juicy golden yellow star fruits. Meandering forward, you discover seven different simulated ecosystems such as tropical rainforest, urban environment, monsoon climate, arid terrain, low land, and upland. “The Mountain,” as they call it, is a 30+ foot tall, terraced hill built in the name of research in the fight against global hunger. All of this is so the home team can trouble shoot, conducting research and development and garnering knowledge that goes to the boots-on-the-ground farmers in those climates/ communities around the world. Even with all their global connections, what keeps me enthusiastic as a volunteer at ECHO is that it creates a sentiment of connection to home.

With cliff-studded shores lines like the Na Pali Coast, ancient mountains forming places like Waimea Canyon (coined “the Grand Canyon of the Pacific” by Mark Twain, there’s no wonder it’s often used as a Hollywood backdrop for “exotic, far-off jungle scenes” in films such as The Blue Lagoon, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Jumanji, etc.). The garden island is also home to over two-thirds of the types of ecosystems found on earth; it is a true paradise. Much of the island is covered in rainforest and tends to be one of the more remote agrarian communities in the state. It’s speckled with farms both large and small, from mauka to makai (mountain to coast). Our family farm was located along the river in Waimea Valley and truly looked like a scene out of Indiana Jones. Canopies of huge, old-growth mango, banyan, monkey pod, koa, and other tropical hardwood trees; massive networks of lillikoi (passion fruit) vines sprawled through the treetops, nearly blocking the light in some places and blessing us, as the passion fruits ripen and drop, with a forest floor littered with beautifully tart yellow round fruits. Wild bitter oranges, several species of guavas, tamarind, white gingers, nasturtiums, native ti leaves, and so much more all grow wildly and organically in storied canopy environments (what horticulturalist now call “food forests”). Those of us visiting and/or living here in SWFL truly are blessed. At times, it seems as though the pristine oasis that is Naples and SWFL is unaffected by so many of the challenges faced in other regions of the world. Yet we have heard the reports that just came from COP26 (the 26th United Nations Conference for Climate Change, in Glasgow autumn of 2021)—for better or worse, we are all interconnected on this planet. There are many ways to incite change; however, when you can find something that connects with you on a personal and emotional level you’re more likely to find meaning in it, and that meaning—and subsequent change—will be all the more impactful and sustainable. Without doing a deep dive into the topics of food security/equity and global hunger, malnutrition statistics, and macronutrients vs. micronutrients, I will say that whether we’re in a resource-challenged village in East Africa, in Immokalee, FL, or right here in Naples, we all have biological needs for nutrition. We also all benefit from the many all-encompassing lifestyle aspects, explored and documented in Dan Buetnner’s book, Blue Zones. Staying physically and mentally active, being engaged in a hobby that keeps your interests and allows you to continue learning, having a strong and interactive social circle of supportive friends and family that keep you on your feet and having fun, genetics, the quality of the food you eat, and much more are all key components to living a long, healthy, and happy life.
Grow Nutrient-Rich Foods Right at Home—ECHO Global Farm + Nursery Can Help
Since the pandemic, we’ve seen both a need and renewed interest from people in growing their own food. To that topic I have a few recommendations: • Whether you have a large yard, a pool deck, or just a sunny window, try to pick plants that will give you optimum yield of nutrients for its footprint. • For many of us in SWFL, you’ll need to check with your community H.O.A. board about rules on plants before you start purchasing materials and digging holes. • Research which plants grows best in your area; consider temperatures, humidity, and how many hours of sunlight are available to your plants.
• Educate yourself first. ECHO Global farms offers in-person gardening classes as well as virtual learning tools. Local farm owner and container gardening expert, Jonathan Way of Colusa Farms, is available for advice, private classes, and offers an amazing tower garden product. Jonathan’s first bit of advice, regardless of your experiences, is to ask questions. • Make it sustainable and not labor intensive. Besides classic potted plants and watering cans, there are many innovative ways to grow your superfood veggies that include hydroponic (roots in only nutrient-supplemented water), aeroponic (nutrient-supplemented water with roots in the air), aquaponic (like hydroponic, but makes use of a living ecosystem like a fishpond to obtain needed nutrients). If you’re interested in setting up any of those modern systems, ECHO can provide detailed education and resources to help. • Potted plants may be a good option for many. Jonathan from Colusa Farms can set up a beautiful, super functional, and totally self-contained, nearly zero maintenance hydroponics tower garden that he can stock for you with baby plant plugs. He’s got everything from kale to herbs and tomatoes. • Seek out education on permaculture and food forests. This not only helps you create a growing system that provides you with harvests all year long, but can also increase the efficiency and yield of your space by layering plants under a fruit tree canopy. • Find high yielding, delicious plants that naturally grow well in our climate, such as carambola (star fruits), moringa, katuk, chili peppers, cranberry hibiscus, longevity spinach, and more. ECHO Farms and Nursery is a great resource for this. • Seek out gardening clubs and plant enthusiast groups on social media and in real life. You’ll be surprised by the amazing people you can meet! Our grandparents, great grandparents, and many generations that came before us knew the myriad of physical and mental health benefits, the key to joy and longevity, and the secrets of growing your own food. In 2022, let’s make a shift for a fresher, healthier, and more sustainable future.

1 The “urban garden” presents problem-solving opportunities. If you didn’t have access to farmable soil in a dense, concrete city setting and nothing more than trash for “garden materials,” could you grow food? For the researchers at ECHO, the answer is always a very creative “yes”!
2 At ECHO, they’re bananas for bananas! Did you know that technically bananas plants are classified as an herb, are a distant relative of ginger, and will self propagate through the growth of rhizomes, thus allowing them to pop up like “weeds” in tropical climates. Truly the ideal low-maintenance food plant. 3 Looking down from the “roof top garden” we see efficiency, innovation, and resilience in both the gardener and the garden. A baby kale plant pops up from a hole in a cinderblock, a passion fruit vine climbs an inorganic brick wall reaching for sunshine, and nutrient-dense superfood katuk grows nice and bushy out of a planter made from a discarded old tire and plastic drink bottles—fill the bottles with water and tiny holes at the bottom slowly keep the root system moist through diffusion.

Impress with a housemade, fresh-poured carambola and citrus soda, a simple garnish, and superfood ingredients that are packed with probiotics, antioxidants, vitamin C, and bioflavonoids, and are naturally delicious! The vodka is optional.
The Chef’s Table | Recipe The “It’s Good for You (wink wink) Super Food” Cocktail Local organic kombucha | Carambola citrus soda | Cranberry hibiscus | Vodka optional
Ingredients
Method
(serves 6–8)
Soda Jerk Time
1 quart of your favorite local kombucha (I recommend either Chakra or Flying Eagle; ginger is a good lavor for this recipe) 1 quart carambola citrus soda 3 to 4 large ripe fresh carambola (star fruit) juiced/strained + 1 reserved for garnish
4–5 tablespoons local raw honey (optional, if your star fruit and citrus aren’t very sweet) 2 sprigs fresh mint 15–20 leaves from cranberry hibiscus plant, fresh or dried—your choice (ECHO Global Farm can provide you with cranberry hibiscus leaves or a potted plant to take home)
Specialized Equipment Requirements
• VitaMix blender or juicer • Fine mesh strainer • ISI whipped cream canister: www. isi.com/en/culinary/products/detail/product/cream-profi-whip/ • CO2 cartridges (don’t confuse these with NO2 used for whipped creams). Find them on amazon.com
Cocktail Time • • • •
fill a rocks glass with crushed ice pour 4 oz chilled kombucha pour 1 oz premium vodka (optional) if using fresh, muddle 1–2 cranberry hibiscus leaves per each cocktail • top off until nearly full with fresh soda from your whipped cream canister • if using dried, dust top of drink with cranberry hibiscus powder • garnish with a fresh slice of local or home-grown start fruit
Drink responsibly and enjoy!
Pro Chef Tips
• ISI is the top brand for whipped cream canisters; they do make one just for sodas (and there are products on the market like Soda Stream as well); however, I recommend owning at least one large capacity whipped cream canister, as you can use it for multiple applications.
• Check the fill capacity of the canister while adding liquid—do not over-fill. • Always do a “test dispense” over a sink before dispensing directly into the glasses. • Drying the cranberry hibiscus leaves is a great option. This allows you to keep them on hand all year and can be used in hot or cold herbal teas, marinades, and incorporated as a powder into salad dressings, drinks, and desserts.
“Wow your guests by showcasing what’s abundant and fresh in SWFL at your winter cocktail parties. This drink highlights some of the amazing nutritionally rich plants that can grow year-round in our climate and that you can even grow at your own home! This drink works perfectly as either a classic vodka spritzer type of cocktail and/or as a great non-alcoholic “mocktail” for your designated driver friend or for the kiddos. It’s packed with probiotics, antioxidants, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, and naturally delicious healthy flavors!” —Chef David Robbins

Stem Cell Treatment Is Incredibly Safe—and Far Safer Than Drugs By Dr. Chadwick C. Prodromos, MD
S
What Type of Stem Cells Are We Talking About?
Medical Evidence Stem Cell Safety
Despite mesenchymal stem cell treatment not being legal in the U.S., there is a great deal of evidence of the efficacy and safety of the use of stem cells to treat many medical issues. • Appropriate use: Safety of any medical procedure is dependent on responsible use. A reckless surgeon can render safe surgery unsafe. Similarly, stem cells must be used with care.
search institute (www.theforem.org) has performed a number of systematic reviews of the medical literature to assess safety. This involved analyzing literally thousands of published studies looking for adverse events to describe and quantify. We have broken these down into different types of stem cell use. Here is what we found. • Number of serious adverse events. The number of serious adverse events in appropriately used stem cell treatment that are due to the stem cells themselves is incredibly small. Here are the studies: • Stem cell treatment for arthritis. There are more than 50 published series of cohorts of arthritic patients treated with mesenchymal stem cells. In these studies, including adipose, bone marrow, and umbilical cells, there was not a single serious adverse event. Our paper was published in a good medical journal in September of 2020. You may find this paper at our website, www.thepsci. com, under “Research.” • Compare to harmful cortisone. In contrast, an elderly patient I just saw had her hip joint completely obliterated and cartilage destroyed in under a month by a single cortisone injection. Her mild arthritis was accelerated to very severe, which will almost certainly result in joint replacement that otherwise would likely never have been necessary. Stem cells slow down arthritis; they never accelerate it.
• Stem cells injected intravenously for any reason. This includes the vast majority of stem cell
treatments performed for a multitude of disorders, such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, lung disease, and many more. We reviewed thousands of papers, of which about 114 met criteria for inclusion, including thousands of injections. The only serious adverse event found was a single case report from China of a blood clot forming in an arm vein. This resolved safely and did not spread, with no harm to the patient. This paper will be submitted for publication in a few weeks; a summary may also be viewed at www.thepsci.com
• Stem cells injected by lumbar puncture for neurologic disorders. This includes treatment
for ALS, MS, stroke, and other neurologic disorders. The only serious event was a seizure and temporary nervous system inflammation, which resolved without harm to the patient. Additionally,

Mesenchymal stem cells are those we are referring to here and those being used in stem cell treatment. These are adult stem cells—not embryonic or fetal—so there are no ethical concerns. They generally are extracted from fat, bone marrow, or Wharton’s jelly from umbilical cords from the patient or from someone else and are then expanded in culture. However, none of these methods are legal in the U.S. Stem cell research and treatment are very common in South Korea and China, where they are promoted instead of suppressed and who therefore lead the U.S. in research by a wide margin as a result. The only legal stem cell treatment in the U.S. is bone marrow aspirate, which has proven generally ineffective except in helping bone healing. Because of this, stem cell treatment has been driven offshore, which is why we established a center in Antigua. Others exist in Panama, Mexico, the Caymans, Colombia, and elsewhere.

tem cell treatment is here now, with proven efficacy and incredible safety for a vast array of disorders such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, autism, ulcerative colitis, kidney failure, diabetes (see graphic), and many more that are otherwise difficult to treat. In contrast, the conventional treatment of these disorders involves using drugs with toxic—and sometimes dangerous or even fatal—side effects and surgery, which is inherently dangerous. Stem cells work by decreasing the body’s attacks on itself just as drugs such as Humira, Enbrel, and prednisone do, but without side effects. In addition, they help the body repair itself with growth factors—something no drug does. Unfortunately, due to very restrictive FDA regulations, stem cell treatment is not generally available in the U.S. except for small, difficult-to-access clinical trials. And while pharmacologic drugs are advertised ubiquitously throughout the media, stem cell information is suppressed. For example, since 2019, Google has banned ads for stem cell treatment.

in this case the patient had an unusually high dose that was not repeated. This paper will also be submitted in the next few weeks, but a summary is also available at www.thepsci.com. • Stem cells injected into other areas. We have independently reviewed the literature regarding stem cell injections into muscle, the disc spaces, the eye, the penis, the heart, and elsewhere. This research will also be published and, again, serious adverse events are almost unheard of. • How about tumors? Tumor or cancer initiation was not seen in any of these studies. • What about rejection of cells? Mesenchymal stem cells do not have the type of HLA antigens that cause rejection, as is seen in other tissue, so no clinical rejection ever occurs, even with cells from others. And no immunosuppressive drugs are needed. • Infections. The only reported infections have been a 1 in a thousand incidence with injection into intervertebral discs—the same incidence as occurs with any disc space injection with any substance. No infections were seen with IV, intra-thecal, or any of the other uses. • Our experience. We have never seen a serious adverse event in any of our stem-cell-treated patients and do not expect to going forward. • Compared to drugs: Listen to TV commercials while the announcer describes how many side effects, including potentially life-threatening infections— even cancer or ALS—can occur from drug use. Then compare this to the incredible safety profile for responsibly used stem cells described here. Stem cells are inherently safe—they are what nature has evolved to heal us with over millions of years of evolution. The incredible safety profile of stem cells is
expected and, in reality, inevitable. How could stem cells—which exist in all of us to heal us—possibly be expected to be harmful? These are not random chemicals like drugs that have to be tested for years and still turn up new side effects later. In stem cell treatment, we simply take nature’s own treatment and concentrate it where it is needed. Again, proper care must be taken in preparation, handling, and administration, just as is the case with drugs and surgery. But when this proper care is performed, stem cells have been conclusively proven to be very safe overall—and far safer than drugs and surgery. •

Save Yourself from
Low Back Pain By Theresa Edmunds, CHC
So, What Is the Psoas?
The psoas muscles are located on either side of the body, attaching to the lowest part of the spine (to the last five vertebrae), running through the pelvic area, and attaching to the femur bone. The psoas is unique in that it is the only muscle that attaches the spine to the lower body, making it one of our most important muscles. This deep-seated core muscle is responsible for many functions—we use our psoas
muscle for core movement, but also for standing, walking, and running, and it is vital for balance. The psoas muscle is crucial in our body’s range of motion. When the psoas becomes shortened, it creates discomfort in the low back and tightens in the hips. The National Association of Sports Medicine reports that too much sitting causes a tight psoas, which can lead to lower back and hip problems, stiffness, and reduced mobility. A shortened psoas will also throw off your posture. Muscles in their natural state are long and pliable, able to move freely and allow us range of motion. Muscles that are shortened lose flexibility and create pressure on the body. As large muscles like the psoas contract, they are difficult to lengthen again. Creating sustained pressure is the best way for large muscles to soften and relax and return to their lengthened state.
Put Pressure on Yourself— in a Good Way
Precision Robotics Muscular Therapy applies gentle, static pressure to a specific area of the psoas at programmed intervals. This pressure relaxes the psoas, lengthening the muscle fibers back to their original state. This lengthening process alleviates the tension on the bone structure and nerves and once this occurs, mobility increases and posture improves, decreasing low back pain. In a relatively short period of time, symptoms are relieved and an increased flexibility is seen. Many people see improvement after just one session. Don’t live with your back pain, thinking there is no solution. Robotic Muscular Therapy could be the answer you’ve been looking for. •

hese days, low back pain is an extremely common complaint in our society. Is it because we overuse those muscles? For most people, the answer is no. Most of us are not working our low back muscles, bending and lifting on a daily basis, but we still have low back pain. So where does it come from? Low back pain is actually an imbalance in the muscles of the body resulting from repetitive activity. “Activity” doesn’t have to be active, however. These days, we spend an increasing amount of our time immobile. When we think about how the world has changed, we realize that the positions we are in for prolonged periods are actually new to the human body. In generations past, most people were doing physical work, rarely sitting for long periods. In fact, most people were not even driving a car a hundred years ago. While before we were walking and standing for a large portion of the day, we now spend most of our hours seated in a car, at a desk, on a couch. This seated position causes the large muscles on the front of body to contract; specifically, the psoas muscle. Generally, low back pain involves the psoas muscle in some way.

What Can CBD

“Science is still discovering the many benefits of CBD for our overall health and wellbeing, and it has proven time and again to be an excellent alternative to traditional pharmaceuticals.” —Dr. Sonia Manganello
ou’ve probably heard the buzz about CBD, the wellness world’s newest darling. But did you know it has benefits for those struggling with gut and digestive issues? Derived from the cannabis plant, cannabidiol (CBD) oil has become a popular alternative therapy for a range of conditions over the past few years. People report using CBD oil to help reduce pain, anxiety, sleep disorders, balancing the nervous system or digestive system, and keeping our bodies functioning properly. Although it is not as well known, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is no less important, linking every organ system together through enzymes and receptors as well as producing regulatory compounds called endocannabinoids. These endocannabinoids regulate endocrine function, which affects a variety of health factors, including stress levels, immune response, appetite control, and inflammation. Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, is extracted from cannabis or, more commonly, from hemp plants. Unlike cannabis, CBD does not get you high. Instead, it works with the endocannabinoid system’s receptors, helping to modulate levels of hormones like serotonin and dopamine, as well as regulating immune responses—meaning it can have many potential benefits on various aspects of our health and well-being.
The ECS and Its Effects on Gut Health
The endocannabinoid system plays an important role in keeping the gut functioning in a regular, healthy way. Although scientists are still studying exactly how the ECS interacts with digestive
processes, studies have shown that it affects gut mobility, immune and inflammatory responses, and gastrointestinal absorption, all of which can have huge implications on our overall gut health. The following are just a few examples of how CBD hemp oil could help to ease the symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders and promote better all-around gut health. • CBD for Inflammatory Bowel Disease:
One of the most well-documented applications of CBD oil is its use as an anti-inflammatory, which is one of the reasons it is so popular with athletes. While this can be great for recovery and healing after exercise, studies in mice have shown that it can also be useful in managing inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome and CBD Oil:
Although irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can have many different causes, scientific studies have shown a link between it and endocannabinoid deficiencies. Such deficiencies have also been linked with other serious bowel complaints, such as celiac disease and colorectal cancer. By helping to regulate and promote endocannabinoid production and renewal, CBD could help to prevent and manage these potentially debilitating conditions.
• CBD and the Importance of Gut Balance:
The gastrointestinal tract has a complex system of nerves and muscles that stretch and contract to help food pass through this is known as gut mobility. When something goes wrong with
these nerves and muscles—for example, if they are out of synch or not as strong as they should be—this can lead to digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhea, bloating, cramping, and changes in appetite. It can also lead to imbalances in intestinal bacteria. The ECS plays a crucial role in maintaining gut mobility, and scientists believe that by helping to support the ECS, CBD hemp oil could also help to support the healthy functioning of the gastrointestinal muscles and prevent related complaints.

Flotation Therapy Enhances The Immune System ESSENTIAL Naples
One of the reasons great gut health is so intrinsic to overall health and prevention of chronic disease is its relationship to systemic inflammation. An imbalanced microbiome combined with a compromised cellular lining means that food particles and toxins can make their way into our bloodstream. This alerts our immune system (70–80% of our immune system is housed in the gut) and sets off an inflammatory response. It can cause skin issues including acne, eczema, and rosacea; hormone imbalances; thyroid dysfunction; joint pain; brain fog; low energy; and lack of libido. CBD has been shown to modulate both acute and systemic inflammation by preventing the production of cytokines and interleukins (the proteins that signal our immune system to set off an inflammatory response), resulting in therapeutic benefits for those suffering with IBS, colitis, gas, bloating, and damage to the gut lining. Additionally, CBD supports digestive health because its cortisol-lowering benefits help to prevent leaky gut or intestinal permeability. Cortisol is a catabolic hormone—it breaks down tissues in the body and has a hugely destructive effect on the one-cell-thick lining of our GI tract. Managing cortisol levels is one of the most important aspects of a well-functioning digestive system. Science is still discovering the many benefits of CBD for our overall health and well-being, and it has proven time and again to be an excellent alternative to traditional pharmaceuticals. If you suffer from conditions related to poor gut health, it’s time to see what the versatile CBD can do for you.

4 Strategies
for an Organized Tax Season
ESSENTIAL Naples

“Even if you are not deducting your contribution, there is an opportunity cost to waiting until the last minute to make these contributions.” —Nina Azwoir
A
s is the case almost every year, tax day is apt to sneak up in a hurry. Has tax season become a frustrating paper chase? These tactics can buy you some relief. Whether you use tax preparation software or outsource your tax prep to a CPA, here are some key strategies to ensure a smooth and worry-free tax season.
STRATEGY 1:
Use a tax checklist or organizer.
Using some type of a tax checklist or organizer can help you avoid that paper chase by helping you assemble all your key documents in advance. Completing your return is then simply a matter of filling in data. Tax checklists abound online—if you outsource your tax preparation to an accountant, it is a good bet they will send you a tax organizer, either paper or digital, to work from; such forms often come prepopulated with your tax data from the previous year. Comparing the current tax year’s numbers to those of the year prior can be a handy way to track trends in your income, interest earned on your investments, and charitable giving, among other items.
STRATEGY 2:
Determine if you will be itemizing or taking the standard deduction.
A key next step in gearing up is to determine whether you will be itemizing your deductions or taking the standard deduction. If you employ a tax advisor to help with your tax return, they may have provided some guidance on this issue based on your previous return. If you do your taxes on your own, you can probably get a relatively clear view of whether you will itemize or use the standard deduction by taking stock of the major deductible items. For most households, the biggest-ticket deductible items include state and local taxes (including property taxes), which are now capped at $10,000 per household; charitable deductions; home mortgage interest (note the changes in the rules that went into effect in 2018); and medical expenditures that fall over 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income. Armed with information about whether you will itemize or claim the standard deduction, you can then know whether you need to round up
STRATEGY 3:
Round up your investment documentation.
W-2s and 1099s, which report various types of income you may have received, will soon be arriving. Bear in mind, however, that the deadline for sending out 1099s is a bit later than other forms you might receive, like W-2s; it is mid-February and even later for some investment providers. If you want to get a jump on your taxes but still do not have all of the documents you need, you may be able to get the information you seek by hopping online with your investment providers; firms typically maintain “tax centers” where you can download and/or print out the relevant forms, including 1099s that have not yet arrived or that you have mislaid. Do not just stuff your 1099s in a folder; also take a moment to see if you can learn anything that might help you improve your portfolio.

supporting documentation. If you are claiming the standard deduction, you will not need to bother, but if you are itemizing, you will. If you are aiming to find documentation of your deductible expenses but cannot track down all the receipts you need, don’t despair. The previous year’s credit card statements, which you can retrieve online, can help you identify expenses you incurred over the past year. If your credit card company prepares an annual accounting of your expenditures organized by category, that can provide an invaluable tool to your deductible expenses. Healthcare providers and pharmacies are also typically happy to prepare a year-end statement documenting your out-of-pocket outlays over the previous year.
Your deadline for contributing to an IRA or health savings account is the same as your tax-filing deadline, but that does not mean you need to wait until you get your taxes in to tackle those tasks. In fact, if you want to deduct your health savings account or IRA contribution on your tax return, you will need to make that contribution before you file your return. This also applies if you are taking advantage of the Saver’s Credit. Note that these deductions are available to you whether you itemize your deductions or not. Even if you are not deducting your contribution (if you are making a Roth IRA contribution, for example), there is an opportunity cost to waiting until the last minute to make these contributions. Those opportunity costs can add up if you are a serial procrastinator. Assuming you invest in something that goes up more often than it goes down, you will lower your return by waiting until your tax-filing deadline each year. Of course, from a practical standpoint, some investors wait to make those contributions because they want to see what their tax bills are first. If that describes your situation, consider signing on for an automatic-investment program for your future IRA contributions so you are not at the mercy of your tax bill each year. For the 2021 tax year, investors under age 50 can hit their full $6,000 maximum IRA contribution by putting in an even $500 a month; those over 50 can max out with a $583.22 monthly contribution. •

Floating + ABC Therapy:
Better Health and Less Pain By Lynn Brewer
“Removing the weight generated from gravity, floating helps relieve chronic pain, allowing the pressure on the spine to release and increasing blood flow to areas in need of healing.” —Lynn Brewer
P
ain manifests itself in many ways and is often a signal that something is out of balance. Now is the time to put your body and mind back into harmony. Floating and Advanced BioStructural Correction (ABC) are two powerful therapies and when combined, they generate tremendous health benefits.
Floating for Chronic Pain
Floating involves entering a float pod containing 10 inches of water and 1,000 pounds of pharmaceutical grade magnesium sulfite. When you float, your body can absorb up to 27% of the recommended daily amount of this much-needed mineral. Oral supplements cannot provide this quantity of magnesium. Restricted environmental stimulation technique (REST), more commonly known as floating, has been around for many years. However, it has only been in the past 20 years that in-depth research has been conducted to determine the extent that floatation has on chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, muscular diseases, PTSD, stress, anxiety, and depression.
Due to the weightlessness and sensory restriction experience in the float tank, floatation therapy can aid with relief of pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic osteoarthritis, sports-related injuries, migraines, back and joint pain, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, bursitis, and traumatic injuries. Removing the weight generated from gravity, floating helps relieve chronic pain, allowing the pressure on the spine to release and increasing blood flow to areas in need of healing, helping to stimulate the body’s own natural power of healing and regeneration. The experience of weightlessness and sensory reduction triggers the body to produce elevated levels of endorphins and enkephalins, which help to deal with pain. In particular, beta-endorphins are released, which are more powerful than many prescription drugs. These natural painkillers block the transmission of pain signals at the level of nerve cells and may be more effective coupled with the pressure release of weightlessness and improved blood flow. The reticular activating system (RAS) found in the brain stem, normally responsible for alerting
the body to fight or flight responses and for regulating pain sensations, turns its focus away from external stimuli and begins focusing on internal stimuli. This redirection of the RAS toward internal stimuli allows you to lose the sensation of being connected to the body. Floating also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the relaxation response. The release of tension in the body and lowering of stress hormones may also be responsible for the pain relief. Moreover, pain relief associated with floating allows those suffering from chronic pain to break the cycle of pain depression, enabling improved healing.

The pharmaceutical grade magnesium sulfite utilized in floating solves the significant problem of magnesium deficiency (studies show 80% of the population is deficient in magnesium). Another primary issue people suffer from is mechanical—the body can and does get misaligned in a way that it cannot self-correct. This specific misalignment is when any vertebra from the base of the neck down to L5 (the last movable bone in the spine) becomes misaligned in the forward direction, and we do not have a muscle or a combination of muscles that can correct this misalignment. As a result, the whole body twists up slightly to compensate for this mechanical problem. Over the course of a lifetime the body compensates in many ways, with many layers of compensation, leading to many different physical problems. Headaches, back and neck pain, joint pain, tight muscles, difficulty breathing, nerve tension, and poor posture are some examples of conditions created by these mechanical problems. Dr. Brian E. Huffman, DC, located within the Cloud9 Float Spa & Wellness Center, specializes in advanced biostructural correction (ABC) therapy, which is designed to correct the primary issue of misalignment, allowing his patients’ bodies to release or “unwind” and resulting in relief and improved resting posture. When ABC treatments are combined with floating, the body experiences relief and greatly improved health. Floating combined with ABC therapy is an easy, natural, and enjoyable way to free yourself from chronic pain without the use of drugs or invasive techniques. •

I
did not grow up thinking I would start an assisted travel business. My childhood dream was to become a nurse, which stemmed from the fact that my dad had a chronic heart condition. During those years with my dad, I unconsciously committed to devote my life to helping others. After nursing school and years as a clinical nurse, I later pursued a medical sales career. Working for global medical products companies during this phase in my career exposed me to the world of extensive corporate travel. It was during these busy travel years that I would often encounter seniors traveling alone, and I remembered always feeling worried that they would miss their connecting flights due to their impaired mobility or general health issues. Honestly, though, what troubled me the most was that they were traveling all alone. I know now what I could not have realized then: the pieces of the puzzle for my life’s purpose were coming together.
The final piece of the puzzle came to me when I found my biological father in 2017. While so happy and grateful to have been given the chance to meet him while he was still alive, finding out my father had dementia was truly heartbreaking. I would never know the full story of how I came to be; rather, only see my reflection when I looked in his face. Sadly, my biological father died soon after I found him. Although our time together was all too brief, it had a very meaningful purpose. Not long before he passed, I learned of the dreadful ordeal his immediate family experienced trying to get him from Arizona to Minnesota for medical treatment after he had suffered a falling accident. While all the complications surrounding his interstate travel for medical treatment—dementia, age, mobility, physical state, luggage, who would/could accompany him, and so on—seemed insurmountable to his family, it gave me an epiphany that would ultimately lead to creating GOMO Travel.
Removing Barriers for a Smooth Journey
Assisting travelers with dementia or similar conditions to relocate to assisted living or memory care facilities is a significant area of GOMO Travel’s services. Here are a few other examples of areas in which GOMO Travel is proud to serve: • Assisting a young Connecticut woman with arthrogryposis to attend four sold-out BTS concerts in Los Angeles, CA over a nine-day trip. Confined to a wheelchair since birth, this brave woman was able to check off a bucket-list item while GOMO Travel provided her with
At GOMO Travel, our #1 priority is our travelers’ safety and well-being. We utilize wheelchairs and walkers to help with mobility and stability and prevent falls. We remain in constant contact with the traveler’s family members throughout the trip so that they can stay informed as to their loved one’s progress and well-being. Since COVID, we take all recommended precautions to clean, disinfect, and sanitize common areas of contact to prevent germ spread and contamination. GOMO Travel companion nurses are medically trained to provide the first line of assistance if an emergency occurs with our travelers, providing that extra peace of mind. While brief, my experience with my biological father led me to create GOMO Travel not just for myself, but to help others as well. Through GOMO Travel, my mission is to normalize assisted travel throughout the world, one trip at a time. •

“While travel may be a positive experience for most people, it poses special challenges for people with dementing illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease, multiinfarct dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Pick’s disease, or an injury or medical/ health condition that results in mental or physical impairment.”
ESSENTIAL Naples
I founded GOMO Travel in 2019 on the belief that no obstacle should prevent a person from traveling on their own terms. GOMO Travel provides compassionate, concierge-style, assisted travel services, both domestically and internationally, to people of all ages, experiences, and conditions. Most people enjoy travel as a form of recreation, relaxation, exploration, event, or even an opportunity to bond with family members and nurture familial relationships. While travel may be a positive experience for most people, it poses special challenges for people with dementing illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease, multi-infarct dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Pick’s disease, or an injury or medical/health condition that results in mental or physical impairment. People with dementia (like my biological father) or similar debilitating conditions have ever-increasing trouble with changes of pace and location, fatigue, crowds of people, changes of time zone, noise, or other triggers. These conditions all serve to make travel for these persons extremely difficult. With CDPs (Certified Dementia Practitioners) on staff, GOMO Travel is especially adept at providing assistance to travelers living with these challenges. For example, for interstate relocation situations that require extensive coordination between the transferring and receiving facilities, GOMO Travel collaborates directly with the traveler’s family members and the care facilities’ directors to ensure the relocation process for the traveler and their family members is achieved successfully.

PRF: The New Golden Child in
Regenerative Dentistry
42 WINTER 2022
By Dr. Josephine Perez, DMD
“Because of its ability to revascularize tissues and its incorporation of defense fighting immune cells, PRF has proven to be a relatively low cost, easily procurable regenerative strategy.” —Dr. Josephine Perez, DMD
P
latelet concentrates have been used in the medical and dental fields for over 20 years for their favorable wound healing capabilities. In the 1990s, the initial biomaterial was PRP (platelet-rich plasma), but PRP needed anticoagulant medications to prolong its working time. Within the past five years, PRF (platelet-rich fibrin, which contains approximately 10 times the platelet concentration that is found in the body) has come to be known as the “golden child,” not only due to better growth factor (GF) concentrates and extension of its properties from 2–4 weeks (PRP) to 4–6 months (PRF), but it is a much more natural delivery method, and no anticoagulants are needed. Today, these platelet concentrates are used worldwide in regenerative medicine because of their anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties as well as their incredible wound-healing capabilities. Platelet concentrates create the opportunity to deliver many GFs simultaneously and together with platelets, leukocytes (white blood cells) serve in the natural wound-healing process. PRF is considered a second-generation platelet concentrate with a longer growth factor release
profile. It forms a 3D scaffolding or matrix that, in addition to its high concentration of beneficial leukocytes, plays a key role in tissue healing and tissue formation. The takeaway here is that even though PRP, which stays active for 2–4 weeks, has been used in almost every aspect of medicine for over 20 years and is recommended for the fast release of GFs, PRF is better suited for long-term delivery and has a greater wound-healing potential over a longer period, since it can be extended to 4–6 months. Additionally, PRF can stimulate osteogenesis (new bone formation) and angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation). In PRF, the fibrin matrix is better organized and is therefore able to more efficiently direct stem cell migration toward the healing site.
PRF in Dentistry
In dentistry, PRF has numerous implications— from preserving bone in extraction sites, repairing periodontal (gum) defects, gingival recessions, implant placements, bone regeneration, sinus grafts, healing soft tissues by joining them when even sutures won’t work, and even facial esthetics. New studies have shown that PRF
there is no need for cadaver or bovine/porcine bone material. In some cases, we will add a tricalcium phosphate in order to make a “thicker” matrix (also known as “sticky bone”); this also allows for better maintenance of the site if the patient will have an implant placed immediately or in the near future.
The Future of PRF
“Platelet concentrates create the opportunity to deliver many GFs simultaneously and together with platelets, leukocytes (white blood cells) serve in the natural wound-healing process.”
Dr. Josephine Perez, DMD, has been practicing dentistry for 29 years. She is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dentistry in Boston and interned at New Orleans Coast Guard/Navy Base. Her holistic approach to dentistry encompasses each person’s unique and entire (or whole—holistic) state of physical and emotional well-being. The ability to maintain health through preventive measures and treatments of oral disease is her priority. Dr. Perez focuses on the underlying condition, rather than only treating the symptoms. She tests for biocompatibility to find pathways to reduce inflammation and apply biocompatible and biomimetic materials, supplements, essential oils to restore and strengthen the oral cavity and ultimately, the whole body. After decades of restoring and transforming smiles, Dr. Perez has integrated total wellness into her oral health enhancement practice—a revolutionary style of dentistry. significantly lowers the rate of dry sockets and post-operatory pain following third molar (wisdom teeth) extractions, and there are even new studies in regenerative dentistry mainly because of PRF’s unique biocompatible properties and regenerative abilities. This is why we highly recommend PRF in just about every extraction performed. Not only is it the most natural way to help in healing, but also in preserving the jaw bones with its prolonged delivery time of GFs to the extraction site. Multiple studies have been published on the use of PRF vs. regular bone grafts (cadaver, bovine, etc.); no significant differences were found between the two groups except that PRF alone is all natural;
The new frontier in Regenerative Dentistry includes regenerating pulpal (nerve) cells, TMD (temporomandibular disorders), and even ONJ (osteonecrosis of the jaws). Although there are no systemic reviews on the use of PRF in these cases, there are many case reports and studies showing promising outcomes. At Pure Dental Naples, we have had success avoiding root canals in certain teeth. While we obviously cannot bring back to life a tooth (nerve) that is dead, there is a sensitive protocol that needs to be followed, and the outcomes have been excellent. When teeth have very large or deep cavities, the use of ozone O2/O3, bioactive materials, and PRF is showing promising results. Additionally, many patients will be happy to find that PRF can be used in facial esthetics: skin regeneration (micro-needling), skin re-volumizing, and reshaping fillers (also known as BioPRF). Although in the early stages, using PRF vs. the traditional fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Voluma) provides a more natural approach to the traditional chemical materials currently being used. Some clinicians are effectively using PRF for certain hair loss treatments as well. It is exciting to see that PRF is also being used in diabetic ulcer treatments with excellent results. Because of its ability to revascularize tissues and its incorporation of defense fighting immune cells, PRF has proven to be a relatively low cost, easily procurable regenerative strategy. There are numerous studies being conducted presently on PRF and its regenerative and anti-microbial properties, and I believe PRF will be the new “go-to” in regeneration and healing protocols. All these features support the conclusion that PRF is the superior option to better enhance the healing of soft and hard tissues. I sometimes joke: “PRP is old school… we use PRF in our office!” •

Affecting Your Liver Health?

44 “High toxin exposure can burden the liver, causing it to struggle and reducing optimal functionality— this is sometimes referred to as a sluggish liver.” —Denise A. Pancyrz
Y
our liver is a very busy organ, performing more than 500 functions: It makes blood proteins that aid in clotting, transports oxygen, and supports the immune system; it manufactures bile to help digest food, breaks down saturated fat, produces cholesterol and special proteins to help carry fats through the body, helps the body store excess glucose, and makes and balances glucose as needed. The liver also rids the body of toxic substances in the bloodstream, such as drugs and alcohol. High toxin exposure can burden the liver, causing it to struggle and reducing optimal functionality—this is sometimes referred to as a sluggish liver.
Signs and Symptoms of Poor Liver Health
How do you know if your liver is sluggish? Here are some things to watch out for if you’re concerned about liver health. • Symptoms such as fatigue or feeling tired • Elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels • Dark circles under the eyes • Hormonal imbalances • Muscle or joint pain • Skin problems • Headaches • Mood swings • Brain fog Approximately 30 million people in the U.S. have some form of liver disease; the most common liver disorder today is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Fatty liver disease is it exactly what it sounds like: extra fat in the liver that causes inflammation. Most patients with NAFLD are asymptomatic and are typically identified when abnormal liver results are noted on routine laboratory testing. In particular, the liver enzymes alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are elevated. However, these enzymes
may not be elevated in all cases of NAFLD. NAFLD is associated in people with obesity and type 2 diabetes; twice as many with type 2 diabetes are likely to suffer liver failure. As body fat increases, inflammation builds and lipid metabolism is altered, becoming unhealthy and ultimately leading to insulin resistance—the initial path to type 2 diabetes. There are a number of health issues to consider that can lead to liver disease: • Obesity • Insulin resistance • Type 2 diabetes • Elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels • Unhealthy consumption level of alcohol • Rapid weight loss • Medication • Genetics Most of these factors are lifestyle driven. Diabetes patients should be on the watch for altered liver enzymes when prescribed certain medications, including anti-diabetes medications.
Choose the Right Foods
The primary way to improve or avoid liver disease is by reducing and stabilizing your glucose levels. The following steps can help: • Eat the right foods (quantity and quality):
It makes a difference where you get your fat, protein, and carbohydrates from and avoid overeating. Consider adding in the following on a regular basis: + Garlic + Onions + Avocado + Citrus (lemon/lime) + Beets + Carrots + Apples + Green tea
• Get enough fiber: Typically, the American diet
• Minimize or avoid alcohol • Drink plenty of water daily • Burdock root (tea) and milk thistle work

Your pancreas and liver work together to balance blood sugar, and both organs also aid in digestion. Using a photograph of a person we can determine the emotional and physical health status of that person. The photograph appears to act as your body double. Changes in your state of being are reflected in the photograph continuously. Renewed energy, resilience to stress, better sleep, and even changes in mindset are just a few of the benefits.
