Hires Former 2XU Executive Launched by realestate.com.au Founder Gerrard Giummarra over 25 years ago, Wild Secrets claims to be Australia’s biggest online retailer of adult toys and sexy lingerie.
While tough economic conditions have seen several big-name Australian retailers fall out of the race, Wild Secrets is continuing to run laps around the competition.

It means that commercial providers of online pornography will be required by law to carry out robust age-verification checks on users, to ensure that they are 18 or over. The move is backed by 88% of UK parents with children aged 7-17, who agree there should be robust age-verification controls in place to stop children seeing pornography online. Websites that fail to implement ageverification technology face having payment services withdrawn or being blocked for UK users.
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the new laws. They have confirmed that they will begin enforcement on 15 July, following an implementation period to allow websites time to comply with the new standards. The Minister for Digital Margot James said, “Adult content is currently far too easy for children to access online. The introduction of mandatory age-verification is a worldfirst, and we’ve taken the time to balance privacy concerns with the need to protect children from inappropriate content. We want the UK to be the safest place in the world to be online, and these new laws will help us achieve this”. “Government has listened carefully to privacy concerns and is clear that ageverification arrangements should only be concerned with verifying age, not identity. In addition to the requirement for all age-verification providers to comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standards, the BBFC have created a voluntary certification scheme, the Age-
verification Certificate (AVC), which will assess the data security standards of AV providers. The AVC has been developed in cooperation with industry, with input from government”. Certified age-verification solutions which offer these robust data protection conditions will be certified following an independent assessment and will carry the BBFC’s new green ‘AV’ symbol. The look inside the German’s toy boxes reveals that 50% of the participants have one to five sex toys in their nightstand, 23% own six to ten pleasure-givers and 10% even up to 20. 5% have an even greater collection while 10% stated that they own no sex toy at all.
ORION asked and almost 14,000 people answered! The result is the big ORION sex report 2019 that is all about masturbation and sex toys. And let us tell you this, it reveals a lot of surprising results. 38
How do the Germans tick when it comes to sex toys & masturbation? The erotic specialist ORION was curious and has therefore used the media available to the company to take a look inside toy boxes, ask for
shopping preferences but also find out where the participants prefer to be touched, how often they touch themselves and what kind of aid they use to please themselves or their partner.
The results are a colourful, varied, partially surprising, but in any case, very erotic potpourri that proves: love, eroticism and the world of sex toys are multifaceted and everyone enjoys them their own way.
The pole position belongs to the humming and buzzing vibrator: 75% of the participants stated that they own one. Ranked second, with a large margin, is the dildo, which can be found in at least 54% of the households. However, the cock ring makes a very close third place. The small but effective helper is part of the sex toy inventory of half of the participants. There is also a growing trend for joy toys for the backdoor: 36% of all participants own an anal toy – the younger they are, the more often they
have one. Quite surprising is the result for men’s toys like masturbators and prostate toys – they barely made the top 10 although more than half of the participants were male. It seems that men who stated that they own a sex toy were also talking about the toys that belong to them and their partner equally – such as dildos and vibrators. Playful variation comes in first place for most of the sex toy users: almost two thirds of all participants stated that they like to experiment with sex toys, use them to freshen up their relationship or to just enjoy some intimate moments with themselves. Surprisingly enough, the desire to experiment is predominant for women while men rather use sex toys to freshen up their relationship. 10% of all participants simply 39
Focus enjoy the stimulation at various pleasure hotspots that they can’t tease and please on their own or simultaneously during lovemaking with their partner. 5% of the participants see a sex toy as a guarantor for orgasms. Very rarely, sex toys are used for medical reasons e.g. erectile dysfunction or strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. Sex toys are just like shoes. You don’t need a ton of shoes but if you have them, it’s nice to take them out once in a while. The same goes for sex toys. Some people always use the same toy, others like to purchase a new one here and there. But how often does a new sex toy find its way into the toy boxes? Almost a quarter of all participants buy a new toy for their collection once a year and almost 20% twice a year. At least 8% add a new toy to their collection more than once a month and 22% not even once a year. This not only shows the longevity of sex toys but also that, apparently, they often come in groups.
Sometimes the inner values are not the only things that matter. ORION wanted to know which aspects are the most important when buying a new toy. Most of the participants pay particular attention to the material and the volume. The perfect sex toy should be as quiet as possible but at the same time be extremely powerful: power was considered just as important as a stylish design, a highest possible functionality and of course the price. And who would’ve thought? Women value a powerful motor more than men who pay more attention to design. ORION wanted to know at which spots men like to be stimulated to reach an overwhelming orgasm. The most important hotspot for most men is in fact the glans. That’s no surprise as there are 4000 nerve endings running together at the sensitive tip of the penis. The male family jewels are far behind on second place when it comes to the most favoured pleasure spots. Those who think that only women get aroused when their breasts are touched, will be quite surprised by the ORION sex report’s results: The nipples are the favourite pleasure spot for 29% of the men with the backdoor as a close runner-up. Third place for the favourite pleasure spots of men belongs to the prostate – 21% like to be stimulated there. However, most of the men don’t want to commit themselves to only one spot: about one third of the male participants like to experiment with various spots and don’t want to tie themselves down to only one. The clitoris has only one main task – give women pleasure. And most women attach great importance to their clitoris: it’s hardly a surprise that the clitoris easily makes the top spot of the most favoured female pleasure spots. It has 8000 nerve endings overall, which are twice as much as the male glans has! And still,

for many men the female body remains a mystery. The clitoris is extremely sensitive, no doubt, but the ORION sex report shows that the female body also has many more erogenous zones. The legendary G-spot is the favoured hotspot of the female body for 48% of the women, but the sensitive nipples play an important role as well. The stimulation of the A-spot, an extremely sensitive area between G-spot and cervix, gives at least 15% of the women ecstatic pleasure while the stimulation of the area around the opening of the urethra, the U-spot, makes 8% of women go wild. Experimenting and discovering is definitely a thing at the moment – 24% of women don’t want to commit themselves to only one favourite pleasure spot and like to experiment with various hotspots.

field to give an answer that was not available to select: the shower jet is extremely popular among a lot of the participants.
Let’s get to the climax, shall we? How well does solo sex do when it comes to the big O? More than half of all participants reach an orgasm quicker during masturbation and 23% come more often on their own. The simple reason for the latter might be that they just have
sex with themselves more often than they do with their partner. Solo sex also has some advantages when it comes to the intensity: every fifth person experiences a more intense orgasm during masturbation. Not just a few even stated that they always have an orgasm
when masturbating but not during sex with their partner. There are, on the other hand, at least 20% who barely feel any difference between orgasms from masturbation and orgasms they have with their partner.
The current ORION sex report shows that there’s a growing trend for doing it yourself. Especially for men, masturbation is quite literally an everyday activity! On average, 10% of the participants masturbate every day. This rather refers to men, however, who masturbate far more frequently than women: almost 20% of the men play with themselves every day but only 1% of the women claim to do so. This is particularly apparent among the younger participants between 18 and 34 years. But, once again, age matters: the older they are, the closer men and women get when it comes to the frequency of them masturbating. Take matters into one’s own hands or just sit back and let others do the work? No, we are not talking about work life, but rather about the masturbation preferences of our participants. There is no clear trend, however. Using only the hands is slightly ahead with 58%, only 42% use toys when masturbating. What stands out is that significantly

The series was an AVN winner for Best Pro-Am Series. I learned to shoot, edit, light and take pictures based on doing that series. Since then I also started Digital Sin after I left Digital Playground. I created the Virtual Sex Series which was the first interactive DVD product. I signed Peter North to do a series called North Pole. I “discovered” Nic Andrews who would go on to win multiple AVN Awards for his movies. I “discovered” current Evil Angel director Johnni Darkko, who was my cameraman that I handed a video camera to and had him finish a scene. Jeff

Mullen was my PR guy and would go on to be a highly credited director. I “discovered” Greg Lansky and Mike Adriano when they came to a booth we had at a European Convention. I gave Nacho Vidal his first series called Killer Pussy. Jackie St. James is another award-winning director we discovered in a writing contest. Eddie Powell is the secret weapon that started as an editor here. Paul Woodcrest was a PA. New Sensations was one of the first studios to work with Manuel Ferrara and Shane Diesel. That is just some of the people involved in New Sensations. We have also had great success with parodies by Lee Roy Meyers who had not directed before NS. There some great behind the scenes folks as well. I created The Romance Series which was the first XXX-rated love story series. I wrote The Flintstones and Scooby-Do parodies. I directed under the name Tyrone Shuz for years because I thought it was funny. I didn’t need credit which is why I didn’t put my name on so many products. There came a time that other people took credit for my work at Digital Playground so I put a name on what I did. In the Video Virgins days I went by I Diddit. I directed for many years. Now I just come up with ideas.

Focus What movie brands/ genres are you carrying and how are tastes evolving? We are currently focusing on Hotwife movies. This is the fastest growing kink in the Swinges/Alternative Lifestyle. We are also shooting a series called In The Room where the viewer feels like he/she is there with the performers. They engage the viewer directly. It is a new version of POV. What percentage of your product do you think is sold as a DVD vs streaming or other digital media channels? How has this evolved?
How do you promote New Sensations? NS is well known to our customers. We are working diligently to promote ourselves in the on-line community where we are not known nearly as well. Some big companies were born on the web and we got a bit complacent being so prominent in more traditional markets. We have maintained a membership site for many years but it is well past time to sounds the trumpets even further. We plan to be more aggressive in 46
XXX, Romance Series, Tales From The Edge Series, Tales From The Heart Series and many more. We are doing very well with the Hotwife movies which is why we are focusing on the genre.

How has the global market in terms of DVD distribution and retail sales evolved? DVD is slowing down. Many companies are gone now. It is still big enough to be a significant portion of the sales for a retail establishment and it is up us as content providers to keep the demand as strong as possible. We are swimming against the stream but it is still very viable.
Approximately 25% of our revenue is generated in DVD sales. VOD is doing well and the membership site are increasing. This is quite a bit different than years ago when it was closer to 80-90 in DVD. Consumers are raised on the web and porn is often free. We need to keep raising our bar to stay a company that people are willing to spend their money on. The model of giving it away to gather the eyes that you can advertise to has been very lucrative for some. We hope to attract a worldwide market so we can charge less per consumer but the mass audience makes up for it. Netflix is doing a great job of that as well as many others. 47
Focus How have the rights and conditions for male vs female actors evolved over the years? There are still the stand outs like Abella Danger, Lana Rhodes, etc. There are many more that come and go. Pay has risen for top male talent but has somewhat leveled for most female performers. Bear in mind that this rate 3-5 times higher than it was when I started…and we sell less. The success of the internet companies keeps it high.
What legal and compliance issues are there to deal with in regard to production and filming? Nothing new. We just need to maintain proper identification and releases. We are required to keep a clear record for any of our scenes.
Are there any country specific trends globally or are some countries more receptive to certain genres over others? More things are acceptable in Europe than in the US but generally I have not noticed a trend towards anything unique to a region. But maybe it is because we don’t make fringe products. Those Germans and what hell is going on in Japan?

Have you or associated individuals been discriminated against due to your association with pornography? What can you tell us about the production of a movie. We have a fulltime talent coordinator who sees new girls and interviews them. She is also the one who gets locations and coordinates pay and so forth. The process begins at conception of the movie. Does it need a
script and to what length? Who is best for the roles? Do they need to come in for a reading? Do we know they can pull of what we need? What is the scope of the production? A movie can be shot in a week. Depending on the scope it can take a week to edit or over a
month for features. The director is often the camera man and the photographer. For bigger projects the roles are separated. I have directors on staff, so they understand the needs of the company for any given project. I think they are among the best in the industry.
I live in a world of discrimination. Bank loans are very difficult. There are several services which don’t want an association with adult. I am used to it. I have many people that judged me based on what I do. That was never more prevalent than when my kids went to a private school. That’s ok, there are many people that are intrigued or simply not
phased. When those people find out what I do then they share some very interesting details about their lives. I think there is an ease to discuss stuff that others might judge them. I won’t judge anyone if they aren’t hurting others. I am also not easily shocked but please don’t try. I’ve seen some things I wish I had not. Hurt me more than it hurt them I’m sure.
Court cases and has America evolved in regard to viewing/ consuming pornography? I have not been to court. I have been sued multiple times by patent trolls or money grabbing lawyers. I have business lawyers on speed dial. Essentially you can become a target the more you are known. Fame can be good and bad. I don’t generally do interviews because I don’t crave fame in any way, unless I was a rock star! I am still in lawsuits today. America has the internet to satiate all of its perversities. It seems pretty unregulated. We are so tame by comparison of what is available on the web. We just tend to find an audience that likes to buy what we are selling. The consumption seems to be very high but it just a matter of where and how it is served. Every country has its laws. Some have governing boards to approve what can be distributed like Australia. America lets you
do what you want until they don’t like it and then they come after you. It’s a weird obscenity law that is state by state and you don’t know if you have violated it until the trial has a verdict. Probably should not sell to Saudi Arabia but the black market must be crazy.
Where do you see the company now and where would you like it to be in 10 years? The company is doing well and with the moves we are making I would like to be prevalent on the web. I have no idea what 10 years from now looks like, but I like to believe we will be a part of it.
Advice for anyone considering making a commercial adult movie today? Know your market. It works best if you are a consumer first and understand what makes your movie special and the potential audience. Do/Make what others are not. Make it better. Make it first. Know how/where you are going to sell it. Work hard and work smart. Have an executable plan and realistic expectations. Be different, the same only gets muddy. Read a book called Blue Ocean Strategy to understand the concept of being first or better…or just trust me on this one.

How I started In 2006 I was a male stripper and my boss gave me an introduction to Bangbros.com for a casting. I did my first 2 scenes and they went well and I was offered a contract. XR Brands
The red Power Flower caught our eye: with its tip of three fluttery petals (leaving a deep triangular space in the centre) we wondered if it would be more of a gimmick than a functional sex toy. Happily, it was surprisingly effective. First, there was the easy interface which dialled forward and back. This meant that instead of having to trawl through every available setting to return to the last buzz we liked, we just pressed…back (I know! Revolutionary). It would also be too small for a greedy player, so yup, XR’s Medium label was right on the money! I received the Curved Rimming Plug, which like the others in the collection was waterproof and boasted a remote control with a reach of up to 30 feet. Taking the Plug into the shower, the remote came into its own when my partner had lots of fun playing with it – and me – from another room (all in the name of research, of course)!
Due to the unusual shape of the tip and the deep area created between the petals, for hygiene reasons the Power Flower being needs a thorough clean after use. Thankfully, it’s waterproof so this is easily done.
Again, just like its brothers my Curved Rimming Plug was made of bodysafe premium grade silicone and had a tapered tip for easier insertion. So far, so good – especially as the Curved model imparted really powerful vibrations against the prostate, just where it mattered. Top tip: hold the base of the plug while you’re wearing it, otherwise the inserted end might just spin round internally – which doesn’t feel very reassuring! That said, if you clench too hard you could burn out the motor, so equally, do go easy on those sphincter muscles.
Placed at an attractive price point, with their bright colours and unthreatening shapes the Satisfyer Vibes may seem directed at firsttimers, but they offer something different even for pros. And while the Power Flower will last far longer than a bunch of blooms, we guarantee you won’t – and in the best way. You have been warned!
The Curved Rimming Plug felt like a bit of a juggling act at times – especially since the controls could be confusing – but when it worked, it worked brilliantly.
