Meble Negro on the lookout for the best of the best As a company in its market entry phase, adopting advanced machinery was a prerequisite for building a strong brand at Meble Negro. After extensive market research to find the ideal candidate, System TM was deemed most capable of fulfilling production requirements. At the forefront of technology Established in 2014 in Czarne, Poland, Meble Negro manufactures upholstery furniture of which only the best materials are employed. Due to rapid business growth and rising production requirements, the company embraces cutting-edge technology to maintain a strong market position. The optimizing cross-cut line System TM’s solution consists of an OptiFeed 6000, a ripsaw and planer, a Microtec Goldeneye 501 scanner, two optimizing cross-

cut saws, Opti-Kap 5003 and five Opti-Stack 3000 stacking machines. Initially, an Opti-Feed 6000 feeds workpieces straight into a ripsaw/planer solution which splits and calibrates workpieces on all four sides. This enhances the scan results of workpieces once they arrive at the Microtec Goldeneye 501 scanner further on. Prior to scanning, workpieces are sorted out to eliminate those of poor quality. A trim saw, placed before the scanner, trims workpieces with spear ends and/or curved workpieces.

This improves the quality of workpieces before they enter the Microtec Goldeneye 501 scanner. After scanning takes place, workpieces are collected in batches and transported to two optimizing cross-cut saws, Opti-Kap 5003. Workpieces are cut by making the most effective use of raw wood in relation to what the customer wishes to produce. After crosscutting, workpieces are sorted out by sorting lines – a combination of four belts for manual stacking of finger-jointing lengths and five Opti-Stack 3000 machines for automatic stacking of fixed lengths.

Obviating the need for operator intervention at UAB Multimeda

The production facility in Radviliškis, Lithuania q

For most manufacturers, downtime is the single largest source of lost production time. The intelligent management software incorporated in System TM’s line minimizes down time by automatically resolving errors and by reducing the need for operator intervention and presence. UAB Multimeda Established in Radviliškis, Lithuania in 1998, UAB Multimeda employs over 350 employees. UAB Multimeda manufactures tables, chairs, beds, racks and various furniture parts. It is one of Lithuania’s largest birch wood processing companies, collaborating with main partners such as multinational company IKEA. The Opti-Kap 5003 line UAB Multimeda’ s Opti-Kap 5003-line investment serves as a significant step toward

achieving workpiece quality and uniformity improvement due to the impeccable accuracy of the Opti-Kap 5003 saw. The initial stage of the Opti-Kap 5003 line is defined as the moulding of workpieces. Once workpieces have been processed by the moulder, they are measured by a moisture meter placed in line with the moulder. This device detects and sorts out workpieces with moisture contents above moisture content limits. Workpieces that adhere to moisture content

limits are eventually carried onto a Microtec Goldeneye 301 scanner for the identification of hardwood abnormalities and defects. Next, the Opti-Kap 5003 saw optimizes and cuts workpieces into components by making the most effective use of raw wood. Finally, workpieces are carried out to sorting belt conveyors in which they are categorized according to wood qualities, finger-jointing and fixed lengths.

Flooring examples from Lauzon Hardwood Flooring in Canada q

Minimizing waste and optimizing resources at Lauzon Hardwood Flooring Lauzon Hardwood Flooring’s optimizing cross-cut line embodies optimization at its finest, as it enables more streamlined production processes, minimal manual operation and maximum capacity utilization. Striving for excellence Lauzon Hardwood Flooring was founded in 1985 by David Lauzon in Papineauville, Quebec. Headquartered there today, the company employs 650 people in six manufacturing facilities across the province. Lauzon Hardwood Flooring is a family business and a North American leader in premium hardwood flooring. Lauzon Hardwood Flooring’s dedication to quality, innovation and customer satisfaction is manifested in its constant pursuit of new technologies. Adopting leading-edge technology allows Lauzon Hardwood Flooring to produce an impressive array of flooring options while minimizing waste and optimizing resources. Facing low-cost competition The Canadian hardwood flooring industry has faced increased competition in recent years. Emerging countries such as China are lower-cost producers who have quickly positioned themselves in the Canadian market. Thus, innovation and new technological efficiencies play a major role for the Canadian hardwood flooring industry in staying one step ahead of the low-cost competition.

System TM’s new handling solution consists of the following: •

The technological capabilities of System TM’s optimizing cross-cut line help keep costs at a minimum, as they diminish operator dependence through automation. Thus, by automating production machinery, optimizing resources and increasing capacity at Lauzon Hardwood Flooring, production processes become much more refined and efficient. In addition, the optimizing cross-cut line generates economies of scale as it enables an increase in Lauzon Hardwood Flooring’s production volume and consequently, reduces per-unit costs. A highly advanced optimizing cross-cut line Lauzon Hardwood Flooring’s line consists of a batch planer, a scanner and two optimizing cross-cut saws, Opti-Kap 5003, linked together by material handling systems. At first, workpieces are fed into the line by two feeding systems, in which each feeding system creates batches of workpieces. These are fed into a self-centering batch planer, and then transported to a scanning unit. A trim saw, placed in between the planer and scanner, trims workpieces with spear ends and/or

curved workpieces. Then, a high-speed scanner feeder feeds workpieces into a scanner. After scanning takes place, workpieces enter a buffer system that distributes workpieces to two Opti-Kap 5003 saws. Finally, workpieces are managed by sorting belts which sort workpieces out and thus, prepare them for the subsequent processes. Customization is our strength Throughout the design and development of this System TM cross-cut line, countless drawings were outlined to bring forth a system solution of maximum capacity and lumber utilization. The construction of this line is rather unique, as it is tailored to fit with Lauzon Hardwood Flooring’s existing machinery and facilities. Thus, installing System TM’s line and integrating this with Lauzon Hardwood Flooring’s existing machinery was a delicate task. However, System TM showed consideration for business continuity by doing its utmost to minimize manufacturing downtime throughout the installation process.

From visit to investment in the blink of an eye In October 2015, PZ Tiles & Lumber visited System TM to see our plant, to gain a better understanding of System TM’s products and to observe how we conduct business. Highly pleased with what they saw, PZ Tiles & Lumber submitted an order for a moulder line very shortly after their visit. Leading-edge technology equipment PZ Tiles & Lumber was established in the late 90’s in the northern part of Israel. The company imports wood from European sawmills and is one of the nation’s leading providers of wood components to the building industry. At PZ Tiles & Lumber, there is a strong demand for machinery of the newest technology and strictest standards. Area of expertise: intelligent systems As PZ Tiles & Lumber values state-of-theart technology, System TM’s solution fulfills the needs of the company in all respects. This high-speed moulder is packed with cuttingedge technology. Its uniqueness lies in its multi-functionality, in the sense that it provides the flexibility to outfeed various length dimensions of workpieces from the moulder at up to 250 meters/minute.

The high-speed moulder line The moulder line is characterized by a fully automatic feeding system, tilt, separator, moulder infeed, slow down belt, semi-automatic bundling, a multi cross-cutting saw and lastly, a stacker of high-speed performance which obviates the need for operator intervention. Initially, the moulder line processes mouldings, dressed four sides and pallet lengths. Then, the multi cross-cutting saw either generates short lengths for pallets or splits workpieces into fixed lengths. Finally, stacking takes place by means of a high-speed stacker which includes an automated backstop system to achieve absolute even-sided packs. Once they have been stacked, short workpieces are carried out by a roller conveyor and long workpieces are carried out by a chain

conveyor. Laying the foundation for a solid partnership By hosting this plant visit, System TM has established the groundwork for a strong relationship with PZ Tiles & Lumber. Even the most lucid description of how work flows are managed around a plant is no substitute for seeing things happen in practice. Thus, observing operations first hand has provided PZ Tiles & Lumber a far better appreciation of System TM’s competitive advantages. PZ Tiles & Lumber’s visit has helped eliminate the concerns which may occasionally be associated with first-time investments. Following the installation of the moulder line, System TM has made follow-up visits to ensure a continuous optimization of PZ Tiles & Lumber’s machinery.
