Great co-operation between System TM and Stiles Machinery Inc. on the North American market The partnership between System TM and Stiles Machinery Inc. has existed for many years and has resulted in many satisfied customers. Cascade Wood Products is one of the companies that recently invested in a system solution designed in close co-operation with System TM and Stiles Machinery Inc. Cascade Wood Products, Inc. Cascade Wood Products, Inc. has been crafting and designing wood mouldings for more than 60 years. Their products include door- and window frames, sash and mouldings. The company has its roots in a partnership, which was formed in 1949. Since then Cascade Wood Products has continued to grow and today the company consists of three divisions.

scanning results, and decided to visit a number of reference lines in North America. The combination of the scanner test and seeing System TM lines in operation, convinced Cascade Wood Products that a system solution from System TM/Microtec was the right choice. Through a close co-operation, a system solution was designed, capable of living up to the production requirements and needs of Cascade Wood Products.

Great co-operation It was the North American partner of System TM, Stiles Machinery Inc., that initiated the first contact to Cascade Wood Products. After the first visit, Cascade Wood Products was invited to the Stiles facilities for a demonstration of a System TM and Microtec demo line. The demonstration was very successful and Cascade was happy with the

The Z-Solution The system solution consists of 3 optimizing cross-cut saws model Opti-Kap 5003 and a Microtec scanner model Goldeneye 502, designed as a Z-solution. The workpieces comes from an existing ripsaw in random widths. An operator has the opportunity to trim bowed or low quality workpieces, to ensure optimal front end detection before entering the Microtec scanner. The random

widths of the workpieces are measured and automatically centered before going through the scanner. This ensures an optimal scanning result. After scanning, the workpieces of random widths are collected in batches and transported to three optimizing cross-cut saws model Opti-Kap 5003. An adjustable side fence ensure that the random width workpieces are fed into the saw, one at a time. The cut workpieces are marked via a printer according to their orientation, qualities, lengths and widths. The three sorting lines after the Opti-Kap 5003 saws, are equipped with 20 kickers where the cut workpieces are sorted for re-rip, to boxes for finger joint material or to manual sorting for long fixed lengths. The co-operation between System TM, Stiles Machinery Inc., Microtec and Cascade Wood Products has been excellent, and we are very positive that the designed system solution will live up to all the production requirements.

From Araupel S.A.: Celio Sarmento, Project Manager, Research and Development and Orlei Braz, Production Coordinator, in front of the System TM finger jointing line in Guarapuava q

Perfect performance from two complete system solutions and a fantastic co-operation between System TM, our South American partner Grupo Linares and Araupel S.A., has now resulted in Araupel S.A. being the first to invest in our horizontal finger jointing machine, the Opti-Joint H-200. New plant in Guarapuava Araupel is in a rapid development and in December 2015, they inaugurated new production facilities in Guarapuava with a size of 35,000 m². This project is considered one of the most modern factories of frames in Latin America, and will create up to 700 jobs in the region. The Araupel-Guarapuava unit has been built by following the most modern concepts of sustainability and the production equipment for the facilities are among the best in the world and of the latest technology. Araupel exports mouldings, panels, doors, stairs and furniture components, mainly to the European and American market. Equipment from System TM After having been extremely satisfied with their first investment of a three saw system solution line from System TM, Araupel decided to invest in an additional four

saw system solution for their new production facilities in Guarapuava. Araupel is also the first company to invest in the newly developed horizontal finger jointing line from System TM. Due to the software solutions and our experience with high-capacity handling of workpieces, the finger jointing line from System TM has an extremely high machine utilization. Since delivering the first finger jointing line, the co-operation between our two companies has mainly been focused on improving and optimizing on this solution. Both companies has had a very good experience with this project, and Araupel has been very satisfied with the adjustments performed on the finger jointing line.

Further investments The contentment with this project has been so great, that Araupel decided to invest in a second finger jointing line from System TM. The development co-operation will also continue in the future, where the main goal is to have a finger jointing line that runs with a higher uptime and capacity, than all existing machines at Araupel. Both finger jointing lines will be part of the new production facilities in Guarapuava.

High-speed moulder line to Jap The new production facilities in Hyuga, Japan q

>>

Per Juul Jensen, Area Sales Manager, System TM A/S:

“It has been a very good process working with Chugoku Lumber Co. They are a very large and impressive company and we are very excited about having delivered a System TM high-speed moulder line, that has been incorporated in their production.”

Through great co-operation with our Japanese dealer Oki Kikai Co. Ltd., Sy Chugoku Lumber Co. in Japan. System TM designed the system solution a the needs and requirements of the customer.

Chugoku Lumber Co. Chugoku Lumber is a Japanese based company with more than 10 factory locations all over Japan. In 1953, they were the first company to succeed in organizing a wood chip business as an enterprise in Japan. From the 1960’s they began sawing Russian and American logs and in the 1980’s they built a large scale sawmill. It was in 2004 that their domestic lumber business took off and in 2013 Chugoku Lumber began the construction of 90,000 m² new production facilities in Hyuga consisting of a sawmill, planer mill, gluelam mill and Biomass facilities. It is for this factory that Chugoku Lumber has invested in a high-speed moulder line from System TM. The high-speed moulder line from System TM The solution from System TM is a highspeed moulder line for finger joint and glued laminated boards. The line consist of an automatic infeed sy-

stem, a heavy duty Opti-Feed 6000. The infeed system is with continuous feed, ensuring the flow of workpiece layers whitout any stops during pack change. The workpieces are high-speed single-piece fed to a stud carrier that consist of a moisture meter, a Curvescan from Microtec, an automatic out sorting of workpieces for finger joint, a highspeed board turner and a multi-head crosscut saw model MK2, that cuts the workpieces in very exact lengths. The workpieces that are sorted for finger joint are stacked continuously and the packs are either transported to storage or destacked and fed to a finger jointing line. The cut workpieces are transported through a Viscan from Microtec before being distributed between two moulders that are running different dimensions. After each

moulder, an operator quality sorts the moulded workpieces and they are sorted between two automated Opti-Stack 3000 stacking systems. The line consist of four Opti-Stack 3000 in total. When the packs are full, they are automatically transported on a roller conveyor to a press line, where the workpieces are glued, or an option is to take the packs and transport them to storage. Solutions from Microtec The main focus of System TM and our wood scanning partner Microtec, is to optimize and truly utilize the raw wood and wood resources of our customers. This is done

ystem TM managed to win the order of a high-speed moulder line to and implemented Microtec scanning equipment in the line, according to

through System TM’s designed system solutions combined with high scanning technology from Microtec. The high-speed moulder line to Chugoku Lumber Co. is no exception, and the following equipment from Microtec has been implemented in the solution: For the first time in Japan, a Microtec Viscan strength grading solution has been installed. Viscan is a measuring unit for de-

termining resonant frequency thanks to a high performance laser vibrometer. Through this, Microtec provides an output control for grading classes and also supports the customer in finding the thresholds. The second solution from Microtec is a Curvescan shape scanner that works in transversal feeding and, thanks to a sophisticated laser triangulation process, accurately measures the geometry of the workpieces. Curvescan works at high-speed and generates constant and very reliable results. It

Tenon is currently focused on making further investments to optimize their operations and they aim to achieve this through their relationship with System TM. The first step in optimizing their production, Tenon has invested in an optimizing cross-cut line

from System TM including an Opti-Kap 3003 cross-cut saw and Microtec Goldeneye multisensor scanner model 301. The optimizing solution with expansion potential The solution from System TM consist of an automated stacking system model Opti-Feed 6000 Vack. The layers from the incoming packs are automatically fed to the Microtec scanner model Goldeneye 301, that detects defects and quality of the wood before the cross-cut saw. This scanner is without x-ray, but it will be possible to upgrade to x-ray in the future. After the scanner the workpieces are, via a stud carrier, transported through the optimizing cross-cut saw model Opti-Kap 3003 where the workpieces are cut according to the scanning results. The line has been prepared for a second cross-cut saw in the future.

After the cross-cut saw, the short length workpieces are mainly sorted for waste, rerip, finger jointing or automatically stacked on two Opti-Stack 3000 stacking systems, with automatic outfeed. The remaining long length workpieces of variable qualities are transported to a stacking area and stacked by an Opti-Stack 6000. Before the automatic stacking system, it is possible to sort other qualities for manual stacking. The packs will then continue in the production.
