MAKE YOUR SMELL YOUR GREATEST MARK By Alice Morais
W
hen you go on a date with that beautiful woman, there are many things she notices about you: your eyes, your lips, your style, your attitude‌ but before all these things, she notices your smell and we all know how sexy it is a man who smells good. So, all men should have a signature scent. Fragrance is part of your personal style and a sexy, masculine cologne can make you more interesting, powerful and attractive. A recent study conducted by Craig Roberts at the University of Liverpool found that wearing cologne can make you feel more confident and it makes you more attractive to women. If science says so, you can know it’s true. In the study, which was published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, researchers had men wear cologne every day for several days, and then evaluated them on self-reported confidence levels, as well as how other people perceived them. The researchers found that those men felt more confident when they wore cologne, and being more confident is certainly fundamental to feeling more attractive. We believe you now have enough reasons to choose your scent and make your smell part of your mark.
Colonia Mirra, Acqua di Parma One of the darkest, most sensual colognes on the market, Colonia Mirra is a new fragrance from Acqua di Parma. It combines aromas of balmy patchouli, fresh orange blossom, nutmeg and warm hints of myrrh to create a hypnotic fragrance for mysterious and bold men. $295

SUPERCAR: MCLAREN
LAUNCHES TOPLESS VERSION
OF THE POWERFUL 570S By Alice Morais
T
hanks to its glorious history as a Formula One racing team, McLaren has also reached a high level for its production models, such as the 1992 McLaren F1 supercar. This could make the brand seem a little unapproachable, but McLaren is going further by pulling the top off the 562 horsepower, 3.2-second 0-62mph 570S, with a new folding hardtop Spider version priced at $210,345. Right, that is still a fair amount of change, but it is not unattainable, like the original F1 or the company’s most recent P1, which is sold for millions of dollars. With the roof closed, the 570S Spider will do 204 mph. When dropping the top, the maximum speed drops to 196mph. What doesn’t drop, though, is the strength of its chassis, even without the roof. That’s because McLaren’s carbo fiber chassis is designed like the ones of its Formula One racers, to be strong even with an open cockpit. TALK Miami 8
LIFESTYLE
“
This is a convertible without compromise; its mid-engined layout and carbon fiber chassis guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S Coupé. But with the added attraction of a retractable hardtop that delivers the extra exhilaration of roof-down motoring,” explained Mike Flewitt, McLaren Automotive CEO. The model is available in three new and exclusive colors: Vega Blue (picture), Curacao Blue and Sicilian Yellow. Cars are expected to reach customers in August.

arthina Brandt left Vale Real, a small city in the Southern countryside of Brazil with a population of less than 5,000 people, to become Miss Brazil in 2015, at age 23. Looking at this beautiful young lady it’s hard to say that behind the beauty there’s a person full of determination, strength and kindness. In 2012 Marthina took part at Miss Rio Grande do Sul (her home state) pageant show and couldn’t make it to the top 15. But that wasn’t a reason for her to give up the dream of becoming the most beautiful woman of the country. Three years later, she tried again and left 26 other beautiful women behind to become Miss Brazil 2015. Some of her passions are roller skating and cooking. At 4, she started practicing the sport and by the time she was 13, Marthina had won some local championships. Because of a knee injury she had to stop competing, but even now, she still loves the activity to keep her good shape. Cooking is a recent passion that has become one of her most frequent and interesting hobbies. The model admits that cooking is her favorite moment of the day.

ith all her kindness and charisma, Marthina Brandt has received Talk Magazine for a joyful conversation.
Being Miss Brazil and considered the most beautiful woman of a country is something that plays tricks with your ego or is it possible to control that? I’ve always managed that very well and my thinking has always been focused on being a beautiful woman that could represent all the other Brazilian women. Being Miss Brazil goes beyond the beauty. These days, social media and TV give us a lot of space to take action. That helps me being not just a beautiful woman but also a woman who can be committed to causes and influence people with my ideas and personality. You have reached a dream shared by thousands of Brazilian girls. Is it really worth the effort? Yes, it was something very special, an experience that I will never forget. In 2012 I took part at Miss Rio Grande do Sul and made it only to the top 30. Then I worked hard for two years and decided to try it again in 2015. I had different kinds of classes and prepared myself physically. But, none of that would be possible without the support from my family and my boyfriend. Taking care of your ‘outside’ is important, but it means nothing if we aren’t surrounded by people who love us and give us motivation and enthusiasm.

What’s the best thing being Miss Brazil has given you? I have grown a lot. We (women who dream about becoming a Miss) can’t think of the dimension of all of it. Just living it to know. The biggest lesson I have from that is gratitude, because we don’t go anywhere alone. I’m very thankful for everything I’ve lived and all the good things I received and still receive. People’s love is something that makes me very emotional. Talking about fashion, which are your favorite brands? Hermés, Pucci, Herve Leger, Chanel, Missoni and Givenchy. How does a Miss evaluate the importance of internal beauty? Since I was a child, I’ve learned that we should be humble. My grandfather used to tell me his life story and how important it is to keep our essence, no matter what we became. I believe we’re living in a temporary and ‘borrowed’ body and what we take from life are the good things we do to people around us. I have a lot of faith and pray any time I can. I try to be a calm person. I think your ego won’t take you anywhere and I believe we are all the same, no matter the stereotype. Any dream that hasn’t come true yet? Having my own family and becoming a mother.
Who is after-fame Marthina and where does she want to get? Marthina is a calm, easy-going and dedicated woman who likes to help people. I don’t always get things right, but I’m always trying to improve who I am. Marthina today is sweeter and misses her family so much… but she always visits them whenever she can! I believe that even though you have a goal and want to reach it, all the journey to it and what we learn from it, is the most important thing. In the future – and I hope a near one – I want to have my own business. I’m already working hard to make it happen. Being a top model and cooking lover. Do they match? I love cooking. It’s a passion that I’ve developed through time. When I arrived in Sao Paulo I couldn’t prepare many things, just the very basic ones and wasn’t really into cooking. But then I’ve created a connection and plan to learn more about it, just as a free-time activity. Cooking makes me happy, it’s my favorite part of the day. And how do you keep shape? Fortunately, I’ve never had problems with that. I don’t gain weight easily but still I always try to eat healthy and balanced meals. A special message to women… Love yourselves and be yourselves. Look at the mirror and love what you see. Feel powerful because we all are. And that power comes from the inside!

FLY WITH STYLE By Alice Morais
A T
long time ago, flying first class internationally meant that you were handed a glass of champagne as you entered the plane, you got a little bit of extra room and your bed reclined to roughly 45 degrees. Hopefully, these days are in the past. International airlines – mainly the ones based in Asia and Middle East – compete in a serious race to offer passengers the most luxurious accommodations in the sky. his list is not for the ones planning a trip overseas on a cost-effective budget. These first-class cabins are the best of the best – the most luxurious and at times ostentatious cabins operating routes to and from the United States. These airlines offer caviar, personal chefs, airport limousine service, the best champagne and last but not least, beds that recline completely flat. Here is our list:
Singapore Airlines Suites Highlights: Private check-in at Singapore Changi Airport (including a private jetway directly to the plane from the lounge), excellent food from famous chefs, including Alfred Portale and Georges Blanc, and an optional double bed. The extras: Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries kit and Givenchy pillows, blankets, pajamas and slippers.
Emirates First Class
Highlights: With wood and gold accents in the decoration, a bar area, on-call dining options and airport limousine service, Emirates’ First Class was the standard for opulent airline service that worked as role model for all other airline companies. The extras: Private shower suite complete with heated floors and Bulgari toiletries kit. TALK Miami 34

Sleep suit designed by PYE.

Krug Grande Cuvée champagne, a great collection of fine wine and food, and a number of entertainment options are all standard. The extras: A private driver to escort you directly to the jetway, Fleuresse cotton sheets, noise-canceling insulation and a Braun Buffel amenity kit including toiletries by La Prairie.

TRAVEL
British Airways First Highlights: British Airways has been synonymous with elegance and great service since the days of Concorde. While some of the amenities aren’t big deal if compared to other options listed here, the service is simply perfect. The extras: Personal lamp and mood lighting, amenities kit produced by The Refinery and the option to bring as many as three checked bags, with no weight limit.
Swiss First Highlights: The company has the best cabin in a non-380 aircraft. It features only eight seats, which means you get lots of space to spread out and get comfortable. A DRINKABLE TIME CAPSULE:
5 WINES THAT JUST GET BETTER WITH TIME By Alice Morais
W
hile all wine available on store shelves is suitable for immediate consumption, some special bottles get better as time goes by. “Aging wine will mellow out its flavors,” says Dustin Wilson, Master Sommelier and founder of Verve Wine. “With time, wine starts to shed fresh, fruity flavors and gain earthy or nuttier notes. The acidity and tannins will also soften up a bit. The wine becomes more harmonious, more balanced, more interesting.” According to Wilson, there are various factors that contribute to a wine’s aging process. High acidity, concentration of flavors, quality of grapes are important elements, but the number one factor to ensure a wine will age well is proper storage. That is fundamental. A bottle of wine to save and open on a very special occasion is a gift that no one can forget. A perfect element for weddings, birthdays and graduations. TALK Miami 50

THE POWER OF TECHNOLOGY TO PROTECT YOUR HOME By Alice Morais
T
he expression “the Internet of Things was created more than a decade ago. However, just recently it has begun to reach the popular tech vocabulary, thanks to the proliferation of appenabled devices and RFID chips. Generally speaking, the concept is all about connectivity. The implementation of the Internet of Things has been diverse, with some applications being more practical than others. Home security systems is a great example of a segment that has been benefiting greatly from increased connectivity. Smart home technology is improving safety, security and energy efficiency. And insurance companies are taking note, as major companies like Nationwide, Farmers, Travel and American Family all offer discounts to those who invest in smart products that enable improved security systems.
Nest Protect $119 Nest Protect, a smoke and carbon monoxide detector, has been catching the eyes of insurance providers. The self-testing alarm sends phone alerts and vocalizes the room in which smoke or gas is detected.
Canary $379 As the first Internet of Things device to receive a security certification, Canary is among the most reliable devices on the market today. Offering 24/7 remote HD video monitoring through wide-angle camera lens, the system sends mobile alerts if unexpected motion is detected, allowing users to set off a siren and notify local emergency groups. Canary automatically recognizes when members have left or entered the home and stores activity data from a 30-day period.
TALK Miami 56
TECHNOLOGY
ADT Pulse ADT Pulse is a suite of ADT Home Automation products that allows for remote monitoring and control of entries and exits, lighting and alarm systems – burglary, fire and carbon monoxide, alike. Video surveillance and 24/7 professional monitoring are also available.
August Smart Lock $229 August serves as an upgraded deadbolt that keeps track of entries and exits and makes it easier to grant access to visitors by way of temporary virtual keys.
Vivint Smart Home A complete and interconnected system of devices addressing temperature control, home access, burglary prevention, fire and carbon monoxide detection and in-home monitoring, Vivint’s Smart Home is one the best high-tech security systems available. The system stores 30 days of data at a time, and creates a secure automated system through programmed rules, like locking doors at a specific time. The product design is also something to be praised.
L
iberty Mutual was one of the first insurance companies to offer smart home discounts in 2015, specifically for the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector and Vivint Smart Home platform. “These technologies provide peace of mind and help to keep you safe by detecting events that trigger alerts on smartphones, wherever customers may be,” says Chad Lovell, managing director of strategic partnerships at Liberty Mutual Insurance. Similarly, State Farm has partnered with companies like ADT and Canary to offer exclusive discounts for existing customers, while Allstate offers smart home security discounts, depending on state and specific technology, favoring systems that
alert homeowners of fires or break-ins. “In order for an insurance carrier to get state approval to offer discounted rates, insurance companies have to demonstrate that devices have contributed to a statistically meaningful reduction in losses,” explains Christie Alderman, vice president of client products and services, personal risk services, at Chubb. “In just the last two years, there have been so many new smart devices introduced, and the market is fractured across so many manufacturers. Also, ‘smart’ devices come with some vulnerabilities that have to be considered,” she adds. We bring five industry-leading smart security products that promises cost savings and peace of mind.
