INTERVIEW 1.How did you come up with the idea of photographing your bull terrier? It all started after my marriage was over. The empty house and Jimmy Choo as my companion. So I decided to rediscover a hobby that I love – photography, with a little of creative drawings and a good sense of humor. 2. What was the biggest change in your life after the photos became popular online? Many things have changed, especially related to my work. With all those people following what I do I feel the responsibility of using all this exposure to do something that can help other animals. 3. Did Jimmy get used to fame? Does he have a fan club? Not a fan club, but I have many followers from several different countries on my social network because of him. 4. Which country is more connected to you? The United States. 5. How do you manage to answer loads of e-mails per day? I have two assistants who help me filter what comes to my mailbox. I really take some time to answer all the e-mails. 6. Any unusual story to tell us? Sandra Choi, Jimmy Choo’s niece, was surprised when a Brazilian dog, holding their brand’s name became a success on the internet! So she invited Jimmy to participate in a fashion editorial for Vogue magazine in London. But I thought all the process could make my dog stressed and then we changed plans and created an accessory collection with handbags and wallets printed with Jimmy’s photos and drawings, just like my art. 7. Has fame helped you to get other international works? Yes, Jimmy has been on some advertising films in the US (Yahoo), Mexico (Netflix) and Spain (Sony).

TOP 10 NATURAL GREEK PRODUCTS By Alice Morais

T

he image of a holiday on the Greek islands… The whitewashed buildings decorating cliffs like pearls, the brilliant water, the beach hair that comes from sea air not from a bottle… Surely a dream! But maybe you’ve planned a different destination this summer, so we’ve talked to some locals in Mykonos and Santorini in order to find out some of their beauty secrets and the result is: use the region’s natural resources. Greek oilive oil, wine, figs, milk… all these ingredients are present in our hair and skin-care picks:

Apivita Wine Elixir Anti-Wrinkle & Restoring Face Oil $55 (apivita.com). The ingredients in this anti-aging oil must sound like the ones for a wonderful Greek dinner: organic almond, olive, and sunflower oils (to provide moisture); lupine extract and grape oil (to plump fine lines); and sage essential oil (to tone skin). Massage it into your face, neck, and chest.

Korres Golden Krocus Ageless Saffron Elixir serum $98 (korresusa.com). One of the best antioxidant serums ever produced, this golden fluid is infused with antioxidant saffron, once known as the most expensive spice in the world. The red threads come from dried crocus flowers, grown in the Greek town of Kozani. It takes around 70,000 flowers to make one pound of saffron. The crocus flowers bloom only once a year and they’re handpicked just one day after they bloom. The protective power of the saffron—plus copper, peptides, and amino acids for a collagen and elastin boost—leaves your skin fresh and glowing

Aphrodite Olive Oil & Donkey Milk Youth Elixir AntiWrinkle & Anti-Pollution Day Cream $36.99 (aphroditeusa.com). Donkey milk surely doesn’t sound like a very elegant skin-care, but keep in mind that Cleopatra allegedly bathed in it for softer skin. The fact is that donkeys’ milk is very close in composition to human breast milk, according to a 2013 study by researchers at the University of Camerino in Italy. Antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory, it’s got vitamins and essential fatty acids. This cream calms the skin and protects it against environmental toxins..

Macrovita Olive & Argan Eye Cream $68 (amazon.com). Fine lines can be avoided with this popular elixir composed of anti-aging plant oils, peptides, vitamin E, and moisturizers.

Mastic Spa Hair Treatment Shampoo €22.9 (masticspa.com). Another magical Greek ingredient is mastic, an aromatic resin extracted from a tree that only grows in the south of the island Chios. It has been used medicinally, in skin care, and in hair-loss remedies for thousands of years. This shampoo has mastic, wheat and milk proteins to make hair feel fuller and thicker.

LOVE THAT HELPS By Carol Ferraz

Juliana, president of AMPARA Animal, with the dog Bianca. After suffering violence when a puppy, Bianca lost the movement in her back paws. Today, she’s AMPARA’s mascot.

T

he World Health Organization estimates that in Brazil there are more than 20 million dogs and 10 million cats. Many of these animals are on the streets. In order to change this scenario, AMPARA Animal was created in August, 6 years ago. Since then, the organization has helped more than 500,000 animals around the country. ne who enters the headquarters of AMPARA Animal (AMPARA stands for Women’s Association for Protection of Rejected and Abandoned Animals) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, finds a small sign that makes clear this group of women’s passion: Rescued is my favorite breed. Considered as the biggest OSCIP (Civil Society Organization for Public Interest, a transparence title given by Brazilian authorities to NGOs ) for animal protection in Brazil, AMPARA Animal is the result of a great friendship and a common interest shared by president Juliana Camargo and vice-president Marcele Becker. Currently, their team is formed by 20 women, with some of them dedicating their full time to the organization and with a mission to change the reality for abandoned animals around the country in search for protection and a happy end for the dogs. “Brazil is the second country with the highest number of domestic animals in the world, but unfortunately, they are still seen as disposable. In the end, many of them are fated to abandon and a life of pain and suffering”, says Juliana. o change this sad destiny, AMPARA has developed a strategy that differs from most of the animal welfare groups. Instead of

focusing on animal rescue, the organization works as hub for sponsorships. This way, independent protectors and other NGOs can register at AMPARA in order to have some kind of support. They all go through a very complete and serious evaluation and regularly visited by one member of AMPARA to make sure the resources are being properly invested. ccording to Juliana, “the goal is to work as a company, through processes and organized activities. That increases our capacity for fund-raising, which allows us to help more animals”. With the support received, the organization focuses on the formula PREVENTING and ACTING to help animals. The first part is based on 3 central pillars – awareness, sterilization and adoption. The actions are performed through projects that take information for children and adults and projects that join efforts for animal sterilization and adoption events in some strategic parts of the city. he strategies related to ACTION involve food and medicine donation as well as support for veterinarian assistance. The organization has recently started helping wild animals. The first project in the segment seeks to promote the welfare for jaguars that are Wild Animals Rehabilitation Centers (CRAS). “Increasing our influence for other animals’ protection, besides the domestic ones, has always been a desire and now that the project is well structured for domestic animals, we can help more species and consequently preserve part of our ecosystem. And we’re just beginning”, completes Juliana.

THE PROJECTS

THE ORGANIZATION SUPPORT HAPPENS SIMULTANEOUSLY IN DIFFERENT SEGMENTS THROUGH ACTIVITIES SUCH AS: Children Awareness AMPARA believes that education is the most important way to avoid animal abuse and abandon. To work in this area, the organization has developed actions like the web series O Mundo Animal de Bibi (Bibi’s Animal World) that is showed at schools and cultural spaces. Besides that, there are special materials like educational coloring brochures. It’s a fun a ludic way to educate the little ones who, at this stage of life, absorb information that will be carried for the rest of their lives. According to Juliana, teaching very young kids that animals must be respected and treated with love is one of the most effective ways to avoid animal abandon.

Inauguration of Project Mundo Animal da Bibi, on World Animal Day, in Sao Paulo. A mobile cinema, in partnership with Truckvan, goes around the city showing the episodes of the series.

Task forces for sterilization and UMAVet Task forces for sterilizations are periodically organized in the outskirts of Sao Paulo to control the over population of street animals. In 2016, AMPARA celebrated the approval of UMAVet, a project that takes a mobile unit care for veterinarian assistance, sterilization procedures and awareness programs to unattended neighborhoods in the Southeast region of Brazil. Task forces for vaccination The task forces for vaccination happen at NGOs or independent protection programs supported by AMPARA and assist about 80,000 cats and dogs a year. Adoption events Every week AMPARA promotes adoption events at pet shops, malls, hotels and cultural centers. These events happen due to a partnership with animal products brand Pedigree and their project Adotar é tudo de bom (Adoption is Great) Food distribution Supported by Pedigree and project Adotar é tudo de bom, AMPARA monthly distributes food to 10,000 animals through the registered NGOs and independent protectors. Medicine distribution With the support of Agener União, Merial and Bayer (animal health companies), AMPARA donates medicine to registered NGOs and independent protectors. Based on a responsible veterinarian assistance, the medicines include wormers, antibiotics, flea remedies and vaccines. Clinical assistance AMPARA promotes task forces for veterinarian assistance at animal shelters. Besides that, partnerships with clinics such as Vet Quality, Evet, Cães e Gatos, Fisio Care Pet and Dr. Gustavo Palmieri, allow the organization to assist animals rescued by NGOs or independent protectors. The results In five years of acting, AMPARA Animal has reached 240 registered NGOs and independent protectors that are helped in a rotation system. The organization, that started with small donations of food, has already distributed more than 500 tons of food, vaccinated 130,000 animals, helped the veterinarian assistance for more than 300,000 cats and dogs and last, but not least, has found a forever home for more than 1,500 animals. “When we created AMPARA, we just thought about leaving our comfort zone and start acting. Today, when I look back, I see those first 3 animal protectors transformed into 250 registered NGOs and thousands of saved animals”, says Juliana. And with every single happy-ending story the team gains an extra dose of motivation. “There’s nothing more rewarding than the gratitude and the love of an animal”, completes the president. “We could become a changing agent and we see it in every person who becomes aware about animal respect through one of our actions”. You can also be part of one AMPARA Animal projects! Any person or company can collaborate with the organization and help making their projects a real thing. The building of a big veterinarian hospital to offer assistance at popular prices is the organization’s newest dream. To help, send them a message at contato@ amparanimal.org.br

THE ELEGANCE OF KATE MIDDLETON IN THE MEN’S WIMBLEDON FINAL By Alice Morais

T

he Duchess of Cambridge was one of the celebrities to attend some Wimbledon matches this year. For the men’s finals she was wonderfull! Supporting Andy Murray on centre court, Kate showed up wearing a short-sleeved Alexander McQueen white midi dress, sprinkled with the brand’s ‘Obsession’ print. Looking closely at the fabric, we can see a treasure aggregation of tiny ornaments, including butterflies, lipsticks, and the label’s signature skull. It’s the farewell of the the block colors and feminine embroidery Kate has established as her dress signature over the years. he Duchess has a long-standing relationship with the brand Alexander McQueen and maybe it is the foundation of trust that strongly influences her towards a more experimental and abstract design. Kate chose creative director Sarah Burton to design her unforgettable wedding dress because of the beauty of McQueen’s knowledge, the respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of the brand’s clothing. Burton’s ability to combine tradition and modernity is the main reason Kate has continued to delegate her to design formalwear for the royal duties. ate is known for using clothing to communicate a message when in public, and it’s no coincidence that the McQueen dress salutes the traditional tennis white at Wimbledon. It’s also no coincidence that the dress was designed by a British fashion house. After all, she was supporting Scottish player Andy Murray, who took the championship title for Britain in the men’s finals against Milos Raonic. he Duchess of Cambridge is an avid tennis fan and is expected to take over from the Duke of Kent as Patron of The All England Club next year. “It’s a huge thing for tennis and for women’s sport to have her in a high profile role,” said Judy Murray, famous Scottish former tennis player and coach. “I’m sure she’ll be a very active patron because she’s a regular attender. It’s very clear she loves watching and playing and that can only be good for the sport.” We congratulate Kate’s bold move into McQueen’s world of unusual print.
