She was a fantastic cook, and no matter how many times I’ve tried to recreate her famous recipes, they never turn out quite as good (must be that special grandma love she puts inside!). Tampa Bay Buccaneer Robert Ayers Jr. Shows us His Car Collection Plenty of star athletes have a thing for cars, but few take them as seriously as Tampa Bay Buccaneer Robert Ayers Jr. The defensive end showed off his budding collection to TAMPA Magazine and filled us in on his dream car, the car he wish he never bought and being a family man. How did your interest in cars begin? A few years into college my dad gave me a little junker car, a car that he had for a long time. That broke down in, like, a month, so I bought my first car in college. I’ve always liked cars. I never had any, but I always wanted one. Once I was able to buy a car, I wanted to get one I had always dreamed of. What was your first car purchase? My first car purchase was a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix. It was red, and it lasted about a month. I paid about $1,600 for it. Then once I got drafted to the NFL, I bought an Infiniti. That was my first car as a professional, which I kind of wish I didn’t buy [laughs]. 10 OCT NOV 2017

Why is that? I was telling myself I was being modest, and after that I kind of said, look, I’m getting whatever I want from now on — within reason. This is my ninth year in the NFL, and thankfully I’ve been able to make a decent amount of money, so I’ve been able to afford things. But when I first got to the NFL, I wanted to be modest, so I bought myself an Infiniti, which was like $50,000, brand new. But it just wasn’t me. It didn’t fit my personality; it didn’t fit my style. I always told myself that if I made it to 10 years [in the NFL] I wanted to get myself some super crazy car, like a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.I didn’t quite wait 10 [years], but I made it to eight [laughs]. I signed a nice deal when I came here to the Buccaneers in


2016. That’s when I bought my McLaren 650S. I looked at the Ferraris, I looked at the Lamborghinis; I looked at a lot of different things. I looked at Benzes and Bentleys, but the McLaren was the one I liked the most. It was my college colors, so I loved that car. My wife didn’t want to drive it, though. I drove too crazy for her, so she wanted something more modest. The kids hated it because whenever I would crank it up it was too loud. I traded that in for this [Rolls-Royce Wraith], and this is our new baby. What was your dream car growing up? I didn’t know much about Lamborghinis or Ferraris, but I always wanted a Mercedes. Since I’ve been in the NFL I’ve had three. I’ve kind of stuck to that. I had a Mercedes CLS coupe, and then I got married and had a kid and got the sedan. Then I had another child and got a Mercedes SUV. A Mercedes was something I always told myself I wanted. I just love them. When I finally was able to afford one, that’s what I wanted. You mentioned that the Infiniti did not fit your style. What car, whether it’s one you’ve bought or just want to buy, best represents your personal style? I think my Hummer is a pretty accurate representation of who I am as a person, especially as a football player. I’m kind of a rugged guy. I don’t really sugarcoat my words. I’m kind of straight to the point and harsh sometimes. The Hummer is too big to be on the road. I’ve got an 8-inch lift on it with 37-inch tires; I have blue

lights on it. [It says] move out of the way; I’m here. That’s me right there — in your face. What are the coolest features you’ve customized in any of your cars? With the McClaren I had, I loved the fact that it was orange. It had my school colors. I went to the University of Tennessee, and the car had the exact same color. That was pretty cool. The whole back of my Hummer is custom, and it has a big subwoofer — like a bench almost — and it has Plexiglass with my number etched in it. I like that, but I just wish it was my right number. It says 56, and I wear 91 now. Name five items that you always make sure you have in your car. My phone and my phone charger. I like glasses, so I always have a pair of glasses in the car. Do you have a favorite pair of sunglasses? My favorite pair right now are these Louis Vuitton sunglasses I have. I have a lot of different pairs. I also always have a bottle of cologne in my car. What’s your go-to cologne? Right now I’m liking Tom Ford Oud Wood. All my cars have something I can spray on. I always like to smell good. The fifth thing would be hand sanitizer. I have kids, so I always keep my hands clean and their hands clean. Pumping gas, you want to get that off you.

Are your kids old enough to appreciate your cars or have a favorite one? They don’t like the loud ones, so they hated the McLaren. They hate my Challenger. They like the Mercedes SUV because it has TVs in it, so that’s probably their favorite. They’re 2 and 3, but they’re starting to learn. When we pass a dealership, they’re like, “That’s Daddy’s car!” So I guess they kind of appreciate cars [laughs]. You’ve said you’re a tough guy on the field. What’s something people may not know about your softer side? I’m really a softie [laughs]. I really am. My dad made me tough, but for my family — my wife, my kids, my brothers and sisters — I’m the oldest child, and I kind of take care of everybody. People who know me, my family, know that, but I don’t really want anyone else to know [laughs]. That’s who I am to my family, but when it comes to other people and my job, I’m the Hummer. When it comes to my family, I’m probably a little pink Miata or something [laughs]. I’m tough on them, too, sometimes, but typically I can’t tell them no.

Ayers added an 8-inch lift and 37-inch tires to this matte black 2007 Hummer H2. He says it represents his tough, in-your-face personality.

Spicy Kimuchi The hype that preceded the opening of Seminole Heights’ Ichicoro Ramen would have buckled a lesser restaurant, but the fanfare was well-deserved. Chef-owner Noel Cruz blends regional staples like citrus and seafood with traditional ramen styles. Check out the Spicy Kimuchi — shio tare (salty flavoring), pork broth, applewood smoked bacon, mayu (black garlic oil), ontama (Japanese soft low temperature egg), bean sprouts and chicharrones (fried pork belly).

Seafood Ramen In Japanese culture, an izakaya is an after-work gastropub and community watering hole known for strong drinks and cheap food. Just like vinyl records made a 21st century comeback, cassette tapes could be posed to do the same — with the emphasis on “could.”

“Baby Driver” and Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” – both set in the present day – also feature characters who forgo playlists in favor of mixtapes.

“Tapes are not a phenomenon yet, not like vinyl,” says Erin Stoy, the director of marketing at Tampa record store Sound Exchange, which first opened its doors in 1987.

Sound Exchange founder Ron Stoy says one reason people might be inclined to choose tapes, which he calls “the other analog,” is because of their sound quality.

Still, according to Billboard, cassette sales grew 74 percent between 2015 and 2016; a total of 129,000 tapes were sold in the U.S. last year. The highest selling tape of both years was the “Guardians of the Galaxy” soundtrack, while Stoy says heavy metal tapes have continued to sell well through the ‘90s and beyond. Young people, she adds, are starting to buy more of the classics, like Jimi Hendrix and R.E.M. “Guardians of the Galaxy” helped kick off the resurgence of the mixtape in pop culture. The film’s hero, Peter Quinn, plays a tape made up of ‘60s and ‘70s hits during the film; the movie

“Tapes have the potential to have a superior sound to CDs,” he says. “You’re capturing the actual soundwaves. Music is first recorded on tape, no matter the final form. Analog tape can have very high fidelity.” Much like with vinyl records, the cassette’s newfound popularity has been helped with an annual Cassette Store Day each October 14, when artists issue limited edition releases on tape and music stores stock rare finds, reissues and other special offerings.

“You have to have the Vigo — it’s my secret in everything!” Mary Jane Ramos explained to senior photographer Gabriel Burgos while he photographed her. Judging by the way Ramos’ kids and grandkids hovered around the kitchen as she finished cooking, the secret is working. “My mother used to cook all the time,” Ramos, nonna to 13 grandchildren, said. “I have five sons, and they can all cook. They picked it up from me.” “I’d let them roll the meatballs — do the dirty work,” she added with a smile. While her sons were growing up as fifth-generation Tampanians, Ramos made dishes that reflected both her Italian heritage, like her handmade marinara sauce, and their father’s Spanish heritage. She gave TAMPA Magazine a taste of both, preparing breaded palomilla steaks with marinara sauce and chicken and yellow rice with the help of granddaughter Abby and grandson Aiden. Aiden said he loves his grandmother’s steaks with pasta, while Abby raved about her nonna’s Christmas sausage rolls. “My older cousins and I will sit on the couch and eat fistfuls,” she said. As the years have passed, Ramos has not changed her family recipes one bit. “I do it the same way my mother did it, and the boys are doing it the same way,” she said.

Directions: • In a large skillet, heat olive oil on medium temperature. Add the chicken and brown on both sides. • Add the garlic, onion, peppers and plum tomatoes. Sauté, then simmer for 20 minutes. • Add Vigo Flavoring & Coloring and liquid broth. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes. • Bring the skillet back to a boil and add rice. Stir and let the skillet return to a boil. Stir again and cover, putting the temperature on low. • Let cook for 20-25 minutes. • Take the skillet off the stovetop and let stand for 10 minutes. • Uncover and fluff with a fork. • Garnish with pimiento, peas and asparagus. Serves 8.


Flan Ingredients: • 1 cup white sugar (for caramel) • 5 to 6 eggs • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese • 1 can sweetened condensed milk • 2 cans evaporated milk • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract • 1 teaspoon cognac (optional)

Directions: Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup of water. Bring water to a boil, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Continue to cook sugar mixture, stirring constantly until golden brown and caramelized (about 15 mins.). Quickly and carefully pour hot caramelized sugar into a 2-quart heat-proof flan dish. Using oven mitts, tilt dish to evenly coat bottom and sides of the dish before the caramel hardens. Set aside. Whisk together eggs, cream cheese, condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract and cognac in a large bowl. Whisk well to blend, or use a blender. Pour custard over caramelized sugar into the prepared dish. You may hear some cracking of the caramel. Place flan mold in a larger shallow pan filled with water up halfway up the sides of the flan mold to form a bain-Marie, baño Maria or water bath. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake for about approximately 45-60 minutes or until set and firm just in the center. Remove dish from water bath and cool completely on a wire rack. Cover and refrigerate until well chilled (at least 3 hours). To unmold, run a knife around the edge of the flan to loosen; invert onto a serving plate. Cut into 12 pieces. To serve, pour some caramel for each serving. Note: You can use a round glass dish, rectangular cake pan or ramekins. Divide the mixture among multiple ramekins and set them inside a larger pan. Add enough warm water to the pan to reach halfway up the sides of the ramekins. Cover pan loosely with a sheet of foil and bake until custards are just set (still slightly wobble in the center when tapped) — about 45 to 55 minutes.

There is a science to making flan, and Tuky Vargas has it down pat. Though she’s had to alter the recipe a bit to account for the difference in altitude between her native Bolivia and her home in Tampa, Vargas makes her flan much like her mother taught her. She uses condensed and evaporated milk in the custard — no sugar — only real vanilla extract, a small orange blender that is reserved exclusively for making flan, and one special ingredient. “I use a little cognac; it gives the flan a little kick,” Vargas said. Actually, make that two special ingredients. Vargas said her mother included a soft cheese in the recipe to make the flan extra creamy but never explained what it was. Today, Vargas uses cream cheese. “But only Philadelphia original cream cheese,” she said. “Not one that cuts down the calories.” Vargas said her four grandchildren look forward to her flan for their birthdays in lieu of cake, and they can even spot a less-than-perfect flan from a mile away. “My mom said the flan shouldn’t have holes or bubbles,” she said. “If my grandkids go somewhere and have flan with holes, they come back to me and say, ‘It had holes, it wasn’t good.’”

There’s one very simple reason April Moreno’s barbecue is so consistently delicious. “No one touches my grill but me,” she said. Moreno owns B.J.’s Alabama BBQ in South Tampa and spends 14 hours a day cooking up pulled pork (their best seller), ribs, collard greens, mac and cheese, and everything in between. She learned her recipes from the best in the business; her father opened East Tampa’s Big John’s Alabama Barbecue in 1968. “Everything I know I learned from him,” Moreno said. “The only thing I do differently is my barbecue sauce. My sauce is sweet-spicy, and his was hot-spicy.” Her two granddaughters, Nena and Savannah, help out around the restaurant after school and are partial to Moreno’s ribs, baked beans and mac and cheese. While the rest of the family knows to only expect special meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas, her grandkids have it a little differently. “I’ll cook for my grandkids any day,” Moreno said. While she didn’t want to give away her barbecue secrets, Moreno did share one piece of advice. “I cook with lots of love — and heat,” she said. “Most people work just for the paycheck, but I put in the love.” “I have the calluses to prove it,” she added with a chuckle.

Ingredients: • 3 bunches of collard greens • Water • Smoked ham hocks or neckbones • 1/4 cup of Crisco

Directions: • Use three bunches of collard greens. Wash them twice, ensuring they are completely clean. • Chop the greens. • Boil them in a pot with a cup of water and either smoked ham hocks or neckbones. • Add 1/4 cup of Crisco to tenderize. Cook for about 2 1/2 hours.

Catherine Ansel [48] Founder Couture USA How would you describe your personal style? I have always maintained a love affair with classic chic, which pretty much sums up my personal style. I tend to favor classic and simple pieces that endure multiple seasons, like a basic black top or a crisp, white button-up shirt, but carefully select fashion pieces with edgy details, such as interesting necklines or dramatic sleeves, or add layers of accessories to jazz up basic pieces.

Five items in your wardrobe you couldn’t do without: This is a tough question as I’m very driven by my current mood and mindset when creating a wardrobe! Among all my favorites though, I will likely pick these top five fashion pieces: black Chanel tweed jacket, black Chanel Classic Jumbo Flap bag, Cartier men’s Roadster watch, Rachel Zoe giraffe-print coat and a very rare, vintage Chanel long medallion necklace.

Biggest fashion regret: Because I often stick to the classic pieces and rarely take bold fashion risks, I have very few fashion regrets. But if there’s one that comes top of mind, it probably was when I wore a sparkly, gold evening dress for a New Year’s party in New York. It was a stunning dress on its own, but I felt so uncomfortable in it as I generally don’t wear anything too glitzy. I consider this as one of my fashion faux pas moments because there is nothing worse than wearing a dress that doesn’t speak your style and, in the process, strips you of feeling empowered and confident.

A Little Bit of Avila

Though it may be known for its grand, ostentatious megamansions, Avila — or at least one part of it — is offering something a little different. Alvarez New Concepts, a branch of Alvarez Homes led by company founder and president Bobby Alvarez, earned the exclusive rights to develop Avila’s last 12 golf course-facing lots into a mini Mediterranean-inspired community called Villalagos. These custom, energy efficient, healthy homes will be smaller than Avila’s average homes, something Alvarez says empty-nesters and other downsizers are looking for. “The [other Avila] houses are nice, but they don’t need the space,” Alvarez says. “The homeowners want to put money into the materials they’re using rather than the additional space.” Villalagos’ first home, the Florencia, follows this blueprint. The Energy Star and Florida Green Building Coalition-certified home was designed and built with input from its owner, who is allowing Alvarez New Concepts to use it as an inspiration home for potential buyers of the other lots. “We call it an inspiration home instead of a model,” Alvarez says. “’Model’ implies that we’re doing the same thing with each home; we’re not. We’re designing each home from scratch.” The Florencia combines Mission-style architecture with modern touches. Stones from all over the globe, including countries like Syria and Turkey, are inlaid just feet from classic Cuban Mission stones and tile. Innovative features, like LED lights, refrigerated drawers and an app-controlled climate system, are sprinkled throughout the home. Alvarez New Concepts and the homeowner based the Florencia on the casita home concept. A semi-detached smaller home, known as a casita, sits across a small courtyard and pool area from the main home and includes many of the same features, like quartz countertops and walk-in closets, as the Florencia.

A Weekend in Dunedin

y family and I discovered Dunedin 10 years ago when we went there to check out an arts festival. But we’ve found ourselves returning to this quirky town again and again over the years, and it has become one of our must-stop spots for out of town visitors. With its vibrant arts scene, eclectic collection of shops, beautiful bike trail and parks, five-star restaurants and gorgeous views of the gulf, you can easily spend an entire weekend exploring Dunedin. Day 1 — Friday Head over on a Friday and see if you can snag a spot at the Old Bay Café and enjoy a fresh-caught fish taco while watching the sunset. You can spend some time exploring the marina and watching manatees or head back to Main Street. Every Friday in October, the city of Dunedin is hosting Movies in the Park on the street’s John R. Lawrence Pioneer Park. Alternatively, spend the evening bar-hopping. There are at least four breweries within walking distance of Main Street, including Soggy Bottom Brewery, Caledonia Brewing and Dunedin Brewery. The Living Room is an excellent stop for a glass of wine and appetizer, or try Casa Tina for a handcrafted Latinarita and some creative Mexican cuisine.

Day 2 — Saturday Saturday after breakfast, head over to Dunedin Cyclery and rent

a bicycle. The Pinellas Trail runs right through Dunedin, and you don’t have to ride for a long time to come across some interesting finds. Weaver Park is a delight for children with its whimsical nature-inspired equipment. The 90-acre Hammock Park is home to a butterfly garden and next to the historic Andrews Memorial Chapel, one of the oldest remaining church buildings in the area. You can even bike to Honeymoon Island State Park if you want some beach time. Spend Saturday afternoon visiting all the shops and galleries along Main Street. The Mermaid’s Secret Garden is always filled with interesting finds, and you can find some fabulous original artwork at Stirling Art Studios & Gallery, which is home to 15 local artists-in-residence. That evening, have dinner at Hog Island Fish Camp — the salt-and pepper fried shrimp is delicious — and then dance the night away at Kelly’s Chic a Boom Room.

FESTIVALS — There always seems to be something fun happening in Dunedin, from concerts in the park to farmers markets. Some of the bigger festivals this fall include Art Harvest (Nov. 4-5), Wines the Blues (Nov. 11) and the Celtic Music and Craft Beer Festival (Nov. 18).

QUIRKY ART — Home to at least seven galleries and museums, Dunedin has art everywhere, even outside. Where else will you see a crosswalk painted like a fish skeleton, a mural of local dogs and cats or a bike rack shaped like a dachshund?

HONEYMOON ISLAND — This state park is undeveloped, but it does have a building with restrooms, showers, a gift shop and a snack bar. The park has several nature trails and bird observation areas as well as a dog beach.

RESTAURANTS — Dunedin is home to lots of great restaurants, many serving freshly caught fish. Most are locally owned and run by creative and inspired chefs. You won’t find these dishes on just any menu around town.

SHOPPING — Dunedin’s shops are chock full of gifts, accessories and unique items. There is even a Celtic Shop that carries Celtic food, gifts and tartans. If you want a hat with a manatee playing the bagpipes, you can find it here.

Day 3 — Sunday On Sunday morning, grab breakfast at Sweet Pea’s Café and then enjoy a dolphin-watching tour with ParrotDise Express Boat Tours. Before you head out of town, be sure to stop by Jensen Brothers Seafood — this family owned seafood distributer sells freshly caught seafood at wholesale prices to the public, so you can create your own delicious seafood dish to remind you of your weekend in Dunedin.

Beer for Life Fashion meets local brews in the fight against suicide

Local hopheads and foodies gathered for an especially timely cause on August 25 at the third annual Beer and Bowties Tampa Bay. This event raised money for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay to aid in the awareness and prevention of suicide. Guests were encouraged to wear bowties or the color yellow, which symbolizes suicide prevention and awareness. Local bowtie company Ella Bing, which was founded in memory of a loved one lost to suicide and donates 10 percent of each purchase to the Crisis Center, designed the event’s official yellow seersucker bowtie. The cost of each bowtie went directly to the Crisis Center. Partygoers enjoyed live music and dancing, beer from local breweries, including Rock Brothers, 81 Bay Brewing Co. and 3 Daughters, and food from restaurants like District Tavern, Roux and Anise Global Gastrobar. Through the event, Beer & Bow Ties founders Kim Randall and Brent Kraus have raised more than $40,000 for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. The center provides immediate support for individuals in crisis on their 211 helpline and is also part of a county suicide prevention task force. Silent Disco Benefits Students’ Museum Visits

The Tampa Museum of Art hosted their second annual Silent Disco on Saturday, August 19. Partygoers enjoyed a unique museum experience — instead of listening to a traditional DJ, each person wore a pair of wireless headphones and tuned in to one of three stations. They heard only the music they chose, allowing for a totally personalized experience. The event, held by FRIENDS of the Museum, raised money to fund visits to the museum for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. FRIENDS is a group of Tampa Museum of Art members who make an annual contribution to support exhibitions and educational programs. Recent projects include contributing toward purchasing works for the museum’s permanent collection and the “Sky (Tampa)” light installation in the building’s exterior.

Favorite pizza: Due Amici in Ybor City has the best pizza on the planet. The setting and the owners make you feel like you’re a part of the family. They also have their own Due Amici-branded wine and sauces. Favorite date-night spot: Topgolf all the way! I get to see if my possible new man is athletic by checking out his skills in golf. We order up pints of beer and yummy junk food. Favorite spot to take guests from out of town: Bern’s Steak House blows my guests away every time! The atmosphere, impeccable service, large wine selection, uniquely cut steaks and soup trios are my favorite. The dessert room upstairs is the cherry on top with the best bananas Foster ever. Not to mention the owner, David, who is great, along with Scooter, who owns the valet. Favorite place for a power lunch: Oxford Exchange, modeled after London social clubs, is an architectural masterpiece in Tampa. The shaved Brussels salad and the manchego grilled cheese are scrumptious. The custom teas are also delightful, and I love the bookstore. Best place to watch a Lightning game with friends: Curtis Hixon Park during the playoffs! [Sometimes] the game plays live on a giant screen. It’s always inspiring to see the community come together to cheer on our boys! Go Bolts! Favorite local store: The Missing Piece. I collect art and furniture pieces and always find rare pieces to add to the collection. Favorite place to take my pet: The dog park by the Tampa Riverwalk. The water views are great. I have two young French bulldogs, and there are plenty of furry friends for them to play with.

Favorite spot to take guests from out of town: A Tampa tradition, The Columbia is entertaining and delicious. The 1905 Salad is a classic, and the seafood paella is delectable. Don’t forget the sangria! Favorite local boutique: DKM Accessories is a unique boutique owned by a local woman with such artistic flair to her fashion and jewelry. Favorite place for a healthy meal: I love SoFresh’s zoodles! Favorite waterfront restaurant: Hula Bay Club is inviting, with its great views of the bay, live music and delicious food options. They have the best bang bang shrimp! Favorite Mexican restaurant: O Cocina has a refreshingly modern vibe and menu that is distinctly elevated by their tableside guacamole and cocktails. My favorite is the Cocina Margarita with tomatillo foam. Favorite weekday breakfast spot: Pinky’s breakfast quesadilla is my go-to! Favorite weekend brunch spot: I love a great brunch, and Roux’s entire brunch menu is top notch. The bartender is a true cocktail chemist. Favorite Asian restaurant: Restaurant BT is phenomenal. A twist on classic French-Vietnamese cuisine, the dishes are creative, and the fusion of flavors is perfection. The atmosphere is energetic. Hidden gem restaurant: Osteria Natalina is, by far, the greatest hidden gem in Tampa. The cuisine is authentically decadent, and the service is unsurpassable. The energy in the arena and live action on the ice is so much fun! Favorite local boutique: Why Not Boutique is affordable and fun! They have the absolute best selection of clothes and accessories for Gasparilla season. Favorite local store: The Write Stuff has the cutest selection of gifts and stationery for all occasions. You can always find a last-minute gift there that doesn’t scream “last-minute gift.” Favorite place for a healthy meal: Zoe’s Kitchen has the freshest Mediterranean food. They have grab-and-go snacks and salads if you’re short on time and want to eat healthy. The harissa red pepper hummus with cucumbers and pita bread is delicious! Favorite dive restaurant: If you love grouper sandwiches, do yourself a favor and check out Big Ray’s Fish Camp. And don’t forget to order the garlic fries! Favorite place for a cup of coffee and drink of choice: The Morrison is thrilled to welcome the Blind Tiger Café! The 1920s speakeasy-inspired coffee house is the perfect place to sit and relax with a cup of coffee. The Blind Tiger blend is delicious.

Favorite dive bar: The Hub. If I have made it to The Hub, I have stayed out way too late. Favorite place to grab a drink downtown: Le Méridien used to be the old federal courthouse in downtown. The bar, Bizou Brasserie, has a cool throwback vibe with great cocktails.

Don’t worry about Uber — just get a room across the street at the Epicurean Hotel if you have too much 50-year-old Balvenie. Favorite date-night spot: Restaurant BT. My friend has a way of making food taste beautiful, and beautiful is always good for a date. Favorite place to take guests from out of town: Mise en Place. People who are from out of town should see what Tampa has to offer, and Mary Ann and Chef Marty offer so much! Favorite local boutique: Juxtapose, of course. My good friends Kallie and Lindsay show our favorite girls how to dress, and the knickknacks aren’t so bad either. Favorite burger joint: Square 1 Burgers. Burgers, beers and booze. No matter what type you like, you’ll find it here, and the wings are delish! Favorite Italian food: With a name like Michael Buttacavoli, it has to be good. Go, go, go to Cena. It was the first place [my husband] Ryne and I went after our trip to Italy so we could continue to eat well — like Italians! Favorite museum: The Tampa Museum of Art — and not just as a place to get married. Thank you, [museum director] Michael Tomor, for helping make our little museum a big deal. I can’t wait to see what you have in store. Cool Tampa fact: Tampa is the only place to get real Cuban bread. Yes, I’m including Cuba. TAMPA MAGAZINE 65
