IDEA 3- UNCOVERING THE PAST
To create a space where all residents in the block can feel Reversi brings in the excitement of what can be different everyday. We have selected images that highlight the uniqueness of the spaces in TPY by printing them onto the circles. By flipping them, people are allowed to observe what is beneath it and learn words of interaction such as ‘hello’ in different languages and dialects.

There is a sense of continuity throughout the experience as most of the designs engages with the shape of a circle. (which represents unity) Tinted colour gel are placed within the circular opening of the buildings so as to engage users to look through it, giving them a new perspective of the outside. Every perspective is an opportunity of memories to be foreseen and acknowledged. At the end of the day, it encourages residents to notice their surroundings before it is too late and helps to reinforce the interaction of people coming together. As they say, Unity makes strength (团结就是力量).

FINAL PROPOSAL
PART 1 II DISRUPT THE WAY WE LIVE
we wanted to revive the the spirit of Gotong Royong. The Gotong Royong spirit goes hand in hand with the kampung spirit where it can even form bonds that is thicker than blood.
With constant deliberation of the outcome of the project, as a group we decide to disrupt the lobby area and shelterd area. These are the areas where people would pass by, without giving a thought. They are used as a transactionional space to get from a place to other - be it rain or shine. It is almost like a communal spot.
The pulley system was designed to aid the residents’ lives, for them to be more observant to their surroundings. It also allows the residents to reconnect to their community by having enhanced experiences along the shelter. Through this intervention, we hope that the residents are able to preserve the spirit of gotong royong.

DESIGN INTERVENTION
Greatly inspired by our concept of waiting and seeing, we came up with our solution - “a walk with groceries”. We wanted to incorporate play in the residents’ daily lives by intervening what they use everyday.
Because these shelters are connected to all blocks as well as their wet market, we thought it would be a perfect place to enhance the residents’ experience before reaching home.
A pulley system that lines the sheltered walkway, it becomes a main feature that connects all residents together and leads up to the bustling activities under each block.
Going at an automated speed, it causes residents in the area to slow down and observe their surroundings, while the pods above them assists them to carry their personal groceries.
From afar, it looks like these residents are holding balloons in neat lines as they walk, creating a surrealistic scene. As the residents go through their usual walk at the shelter, they will also be greeted with soothing wind chimes as they pass by someone, creating a more therapeutic and dreamlike environment as they wander.
Other than serving the residents, the pods also brings fresh leftover ingredients from the nearby wet market or herbs from the public edible garden to the communal kitchens under the blocks。

RESTING AREA -Lobby Area -
By providIng communal spaces at the open green area and under the blocks, it gives a space for the residents to gather and bond.
The resting areas are placed near the shelter where residents who are passing by are able to rest and relax, while enjoying the aroma of the food. It might entice them to be curious, and it might aid in creating conversations between the people.
The seats are placed in circular shapes, surrounding plantations at the centre. The plants are to be taken care by the residents, for the residents. This allows them to have a sense of responsibility, to appreciate what they have.

COMMUNAL KITCHEN -Lobby Area -
At the communal kitchen, residents are able to interact and gather to cook a hearty meal. The design of the kitchen is placed in such a way where it allows for further interaction and participation among the people.
It is to also encourage the community to get together through the making of food. Food is a universal language that people connect with.
Food brings people together; the movement of coming together; preparing and sharing a meal is the most communal thing that can happen.
Using the pulley system, it also enables them to have access to food from the wet market. It allows the food to be transported over, making their lives easier as the time can be spent on having the community to come together to enjoy food.

HERB GARDEN -Lobby Area -
The herbs from the herb gardens can also be used at the communal kitchen. These are taken care by the residents, for the residents. They enjoy the process of savouring the food that they spent time growing, as their hard work are not gone to waste.
The residents are able to spend their time there, exchanging information on how to grow certain herbs and spices. They can learn from one another, and also to get to know one another better. It acts as a platform for interaction and communication, while giving them a sense of identity.
