dare who’s behind

OFTEN TOUTED as the “Queen of Connection”, Tania Usher is internationally renowned for her daring philosophies for uncovering an authentic success mindset. The tenacious Tania believes the only thing stopping people from reaching the success they crave, is their own self-doubt. “Entrepreneurship is one of the most powerful self-development journeys on which anyone can embark. When dare was born you couple a success mindset from Tania’s with powerful masterminding, insightful mentoring and taking vision to unite action…amazing things happen, heart-centred even when at times the hurdles entrepreneurs seem impossible to leap.”

around the world with bold and enterprising entrepreneurs making a difference…while having lots of fun. “Boring is out”, is Tania’s motto.

Tania understands this first hand. After years of living and working abroad, winning numerous international awards and building a successful executive career, Tania tamed her wandering soul and returned to Australia in 1999 to start a family. Within 5 years of leaving the jet-setting corporate world, Tania buried her baby boy, gave birth to two healthy daughters, became the sole provider for her family, experienced escalating credit card debt and was served home repossession papers.

An unstinting faith in her own ability, coupled with a hefty dose of courage, propelled Tania 8

Featured regularly in the media, including recent appearances on the Today Show, Tania believes that nurturing relationships and making soulful connections is the key to success in all areas of life. Thousands of people follow Tania online, and her events have touched the lives of over 100,000 people from a variety of industries and nations.

Tania’s authentic, heart-centred approach to communication and connection will continue to empower entrepreneurs around the world to take big leaps that will lead to the positive transformation in the lives of millions of people worldwide.

PLAYING TRUTH OR DARE. When you were a child, did you ever play ‘truth or dare’? I did. In fact, I still play it today; although, the rules have changed. Now, it’s a solo game where I look within and ask with love, 'what is my truth?’. Then, I dare myself to share it with open arms. It hasn’t always been pretty. My life is a rich tapestry of chaos and perfection. But through all the heartache and tears, tantrums and gifts poorly wrapped, I’ve also laughed so hard my cheeks hurt, run the race of my life, wept tears of joy, loved with my whole heart and given everything I’ve got. because of my expertise I must be a complete techie, but let me tell you, nothing could be farther from the truth! What I am is a socialpreneur. Let me explain… Today, we all have the opportunity to pretty much connect with anyone in the world online, and that has been the key to my Social Marketing Stylist because I promote the concept that everyone should use social business platforms and strategies in their own unique way... not in a cookie cutter way with automated this and automated that. brand, and I did it by being socially active and aware! When I meet someone online, I consider how I can connect with that person, and I take action. I think, “Hmmm, I want to get to know this person”, or “Wow, I wonder if this person and I could do ‘x‘”, or “I wonder if this person knows anything about ’y’” – then I start the conversation. What is so exciting in this age of technology is that there are so many new ways and it’s quite easy, if you are willing to take a risk, to try something new and take action in ways you never have before. As your stylist in this issue, I say to you: “if you want to be successful over the next few years, you have to be willing to shift your business a bit to align with what is happening in the world.” DECEMBER 2011

Biting Into The FORBIDDEN FRUIT STEVE JOBS February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011 “Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your inner voice”, counselled Steve Jobs as he dared to follow his own advice and listen to his intuition. He did what others thought could not be done; he innovated beyond expectation; he disregarded naysayers and succeeded in revolutionising technology and mobile computing. Steve dared to bite into the forbidden fruit, and his vision blossomed into iMacs, iPods, iPads, iPhones and other technological advances that changed our world. Steve Jobs’ life, his achievements and his eccentricities have been explored in a host of articles, obituaries, books and the newly released authorised biography by Walter Isaacson. We know he was a focused, determined, often ruthless perfectionist who captivated crowds with his innovative concepts. He never doubted himself and was always learning from his many, and often very public, mistakes. His strong will and his faith in the “power of the will to bend reality” brought him exceptional success, and we can all learn a few lessons from this self-titled ‘enlightened luminary”. 1

Love what you do. Steve told the Stanford graduating class of 1985 that “the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do”.

2

Don’t settle. “If you haven’t found it (what you love to do) yet, keep looking”, Steve counselled the Stanford grads. “Don’t settle”.

3

Approach everything with an open mind. Steve advocated a Buddhist principle called the ‘Beginner’s mind’; he tried to approach everything with an open mind and embrace every experience is if it was the first time. “Much of what I’d stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on”, he said.

6

Say no. Stay focused. Steve told others to “say no to 1,000 things to make sure you don’t get on the wrong track or try to do too much”.

7

Embrace every opportunity. Make the most of every situation. Learn from what Steve said about being humiliatingly dismissed from Apple: “Getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, and less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life”.

Start with YOU. The best way to change the world is to change yourself.

During our interview, Joe revealed that “the human body isn’t designed to eat as much food for as long as we do. I believe we are designed to have a break. We come from an earth where there has been famine and feast. We have forgotten to create our own famines. All the big religions have fasting in them; it’s for a reason. g n i t s a e f e c i u j Top five tips & facts:

1

A bucket load of goodness in one glass – On a juice feast, there are typically between 6-7 serves of fruits or vegetables in each glass, depending on the fluid content of the individual ingredients. For example, an orange contains a lot more juice per serve than spinach. By drinking the recommended 4-6 juices per day, you’re getting 2442 serves of fresh fruits and vegetables each day. That’s a bucket load of goodness. Not all juices are created equal – While any juice is beneficial, green vegetable juices contain especially important and unique phytonutrients. However, it’s also important that you try to get a rainbow of colourful vegetables and fruits throughout your day for the full spectrum of health promoting micronutrients. Fresh is best – If you buy fruits and vegetables that are out of season, it means they have been in cold storage or imported from overseas or another state. The shorter the time

2

3

it takes for a fruit or vegetable to get from the ground to your glass, the more nutrients for your body. Try to make it to your local farmers market. Seasonal produce is typically cheaper – and that’s when they’re plentiful, ripe, most nutritious and ready to eat. Suck it up – Juicing is an easy way to flood your body with the goodness of a bucket load of fruits and vegetables. Juices are much more easily absorbed and digested by our bodies than whole foods. Good sugar – While commercially packaged fruit juices can be high in sugar and are often avoided by people with diabetes or blood sugar issues, natural sugar from fresh fruit and its juice is a very different quality of sugar than the processed sugar in juices or what you put in your coffee. Freshly squeezed fruit juices also contain a broad range of other nutrients including vitamin C, folate, potassium, antioxidants and soluble fibre which helps slow the absorption rate of sugar.

With steely conviction I left school, embarked on several job changes until, at the age of 19, I boarded the 24 hour flight from Perth to London. Returning home at 21, following a 6 month stint backpacking throughout the continent, I knew my future lay in Europe. So just prior to my 22nd birthday I met a Dutchman who invited me to visit him in Amsterdam; I jumped at the chance. After 12 years of helping people improve the quality of their lives through external changes in their environment and ‘Healing the Planet – One Space at a Time™, Deborah acted on her belief that security comes from NOT playing it safe; she decided to change direction to help people improve their lives by turning inward. She remains committed to a bold vision of shaking things up. TANIA: In our society, the topics of sex and sensuality are often hidden or taboo. Do you think this has resulted in many women becoming disconnected with the sensual side of themselves? DEBORAH: Absolutely. We have clues from when we are children of what we are excited about or what fascinates us. From a very young age, I was interested in sex. I didn’t know what that was in adult language, but I knew that there was an energy around it, and there was something about that whole subject matter that fascinated me. I was also very interested in my room, how it felt, where I put my toys and what colours were in it.

Our space is so important. However, we’re the person embodying that space. No matter how much feng shui you do to your outer world, there are pieces inside you – your inner feng shui – that need to open up and shift in order to be as powerful and radiant as you can be. As women, I believe we have a responsibility to connect with our sensuality, because without it we’re cut off from – dare I say 90% – of who we truly are. TANIA: Perhaps this is because many women feel they don’t have permission to speak freely about the sensual side of themselves. How are you igniting this discussion DECEMBER 2011

amongst women who lead very busy sensuality has become a low priority? DEBORAH: I talk a lot about the masculinisation of women. It’s been

around the world as women are moving into power. Of course, women have been running households for centuries; now, they’re running global organisations and countries. we lack role models for doing so in ways that keep us connected with our sensuality. My mission is to help women “live below their neck”. This centres around the distinction between masculine and feminine qualities. They’re not gender. Male and female are gender. Masculine and feminine are qualities that everybody – male or female – has in their own makeup, in their expression, in their energy. Masculine energy is very single focused. It’s pointed; it’s directed; it’s incredibly forceful and knows how to stay focused on its mission. Feminine energy is also incredibly powerful, and its energy is in constant motion. thing on the right. I can feel it. I’m connected to it. I don’t have to be looking at it. And I can incorporate it to the thing that’s straight ahead of me and still understand what’s right behind, and make it all happen. TANIA: I know women around the world are reading this and nodding, “Yeah, that’s me; I do that.” DEBORAH: Yes, it’s the feminine energy, which we all have. The

combination of masculine and feminine energy is vital to being a Pointed masculine energy lives above your neck in your head. It’s all of your thoughts, ideas, processes and

we’ve been conditioned to live above the neck. We have become disassociated from the wisdom in our bodies that is truly our greatest gift as women.

Our bodies have an intelligence that is far beyond anything our brain can give us. Certainly, our bodies are connected to our brains and we become our most powerful selves when our feminine and masculine wisdom are connected. TANIA: Do you believe the fear of associating sensual with sexual means from our bodies gets crushed at a young age because of the concern that sensually who we are?

there are green plants swaying outside; maybe you’re in a city and past. Consider the wind that is making that happen; that is sexual energy. It’s the same thing as life force. It is Mother Nature. I have hummingbirds outside my window which have a daily connection with a particular tree. They are combining their life force and their sexual energy with this tree. This sexual energy is outside my window;

Because of adult fears or misconceptions, society, culture or religion, sensual-related issues are often kept in the closet. DEBORAH: Absolutely. When you see children, they’re so free and connected with all they eat and how things feel. Yet, because of adult fears or misconceptions, society, culture or

mixed messages from a young age. TANIA: In your work, you talk about the important distinction between sex and sexual energy. DEBORAH:

and look out the window; perhaps

it’s outside your window; it’s the ocean lapping at the shore. When we disconnect ourselves from this energy because, for whatever reason, we haven’t had good conversations about sexuality growing up, we become disassociated from this life force. We literally cut ourselves off from our internal power source.

Research indicates three likely contributing factors: Stress. Adrenal glands make stress hormones…and testosterone. When women’s adrenal glands work overtime to help manage stress, they also make excess testosterone. High carbohydrate diets. High carbohydrate foods raise the level of insulin in the blood. onsidering that the Australian festive holiday season (regardless of your religious beliefs) originally claimed to be all about Jesus, we can always assert that we are following biblical precedent when we are frugal at Christmas. Consider that 2000 years ago, according to tradition, God gave the world a small baby who was destined to be the saviour of the world. God did not send Rambo or Chuck Norris to save the Jewish people from Roman slavery, nor did he give a billion buckets of gold. The baby in a manger was a seedling gift of hope.
