NOTES The overall mood of the piece is aggressive and powerful. The sforzando accents should be very heavy throughout the piece, except for letter C–D, which provides a bit of a break from the savage energy in the surrounding phrases, and letter G–H, which is more gentle, with the triplets providing a roll-like texture. All muffling is for the preceding note. Therefore, the first half of the phrase at letter D will have silence, but the second half of the phrase allows the notes to connect. Make sure you allow the last note of the piece to ring (muffle the F before it). I was first introduced to the slang reference “tubs” as a freshman at UK. With the bombastic nature of this piece I thought the title Hot Tubs to be very fitting. Dig in and enjoy!
