From the desk of Editor Hi Friend, As we step into a month full of Scorching Sun, I must share the news of our 1st Solar PV Installer Batch which kick-started in the peak of summer. Started with a batch size of 22 promising learners, we look forward to completing the batch by July 1st week with lot of excitement besides activities! The content partner is Tata Power and the course has been sponsored by Tata Capital at the Pune Center. Switching to Solar is like going back to basics. Solar is considered to be the most sustainable sources of energy today. The country's solar installed capacity reached 28.18 GW as of 31 March 2019. The Indian government had an initial target of 20 GW capacity for 2022, which was achieved four years ahead of schedule as per sources. We also organised the 6th Graduation Ceremony event last month with close to 200 Certificates across 6 courses at the Center. Check out for more in this edition as we invite writers to write for us on skilling, environment, sustainable sources of energy, Water conservation and about anything on this earth that will trigger our grey cells. Happy reading...! - Sameet Joshi

Industry seeds the need for Skills? Belonging to the Telecom Industry all these years, I wonder sometimes the speed at which the Telecom Industry grew and shrunk in a span of 2 decades has never ever been seen in any other Industry. We have been fortunate to witness such a huge technology leap in our times while other Industries also benefitted from this Industry to a large extent. Where on earth (in context of India) did we imagine having to speak to our beloved 1000 miles away during the peak time of the day without having to worry about the bill? Not to forget to see the caller on the Video call on our Mobile phones? So when I say grew, it will mean in terms of the number of players, the subscribers, the number of cell sites, the mobile phones and so on & so forth. And the 'Shrinking' of the Industry refers to the Lesser number of players (Consolidation & merging), reduced Tariff rates, Lesser revenue per subscriber and fewer JOBS! I do not want to get into the Market share or the ARPU nor the Bears & the bulls of the stock market but I would certainly like to draw your attention to the last word in my last sentence. More Jobs. When this Industry began as early as 1996, young graduates were hired as the Call Center trainees, Showroom executive, Network engineers, After sales service staff and the Industry grew. There were manpower trainings, call drops, rates fluctuations, technology changes, Skill based training, Dealers & distributors, More trainings, More manpower (skilled & unskilled), Rates drops, more stores, More Call Centers, More Customers, More complaints, Network outages, Mobile number portability, Buy outs, Consolidations and Lesser demand for manpower, Retrenchment & lay offs, shutting down of shops & Lesser JOBS. Nobody could have laid down the blue print of this entire fast paced Industry trend in which both skilled & unskilled manpower were equally impacted. While lot of people were churned out with no jobs in their hands, the market accepted a few with similar skills in need, a few went on to start a business of their own and many are still searching for one. Ironical as it may sound, as a fallout of this Telecom explosion (if I may call it), the user will always now have a mobile phone to his rescue while he is searching for a JOB. So would you call it a blessing in disguise? The question which troubles me the most is the kind of skills that were needed by this Industry were quickly brought on to the table and demand for the same was fulfilled but today we still have millions of Job opportunities but not having enough skilled manpower to fulfil the demand. The reasons could be manifold, not being able to cater to the relevant Industry, the demographic challenge, the absence of the need to get skilled, the gap between the needy and the provider, the geographic adversity and the list goes on. A start has been made and in the right direction. Howsoever small it may be, but it will eventually lead to a big change. The need for skill development is here to stay for making the progression that the country needs. And people like us who have come together to make it happen. It is not a revolution but a make-over in the understanding, the mind-set and a different perspective to view the things beyond today that will bring about the change in us and the community at large. -

Born in a middle class family, Sneha hails from Beed, Maharashtra. Her family includes her parents and 3 siblings. Her father is a police constable and her mother is a homemaker. Think about it No matter how good you think you are as a leader, my goodness, the people around you will have all kinds of ideas for how you can get better. So for me, the most fundamental thing about leadership is to have the humility to continue to get feedback and to try to get better - because your job is to try to help everybody else get better. -
