FROM EDITORS DESK Hi Friend, Many of us may not remember that 14th Feb also marks the anniversary of one of the deadliest terrorist attack in Pulwama taking away the lives of 40 soldiers of the Indian Army. We, at TSSDC Pune, did our bit and remembered these brave hearts on this day, celebrating a Soldier’s love for the nation. Learners and the Pune team gathered to listen to the real life story of a Brave soldier 2 Lt Arun Khetarpal from Col Kishore Jadhav (Retd.), who is staying in Pune. As you read these lines, the entire nation is gripped with the outburst of COVID19 Pandemic and hence this lockdown. In order to prevent the learners from catching the Virus, several precautions were taken. However, eventually with the orders from the Government authorities, the classes at the Center were suspended. It’s a challenging times for each one of us and we will have a story to tell, while this Virus completely changes the lifestyle and forces us to re-think. For many, their lives have turned completely upside down. We will have more of news and write-ups in our forthcoming editions on how we are engaging our teams & learners during this period of Lockdown. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the new Creative team for strive@pune. Vishwas Rajput, Apurva Fursule & Amrita Fernandes are on board compiling the content for the newsletter. Also new to the team is Anish Varghese, who will now be involved in designing of this newsletter. As promised, we will keep bringing something new to our editions and we are so happy to Introduce a new section My Skill Story. It will be interesting to know what many of us do with a little bit of me-time? Reading, Sketching or Sky gazing…? Read on… Do share your feedback on the same and write in to us. I will request all enthusiast writers, who wish to contribute to strive@pune should feel free to write to us. We will really be happy to go through your content and publish them here.

PICK OF THE MONTH Hi, this is Amrita and I will bring to you an interesting read every month about what’s happening at the Center. And I chose Valentine’s day to talk about this time! We celebrated Valentine's Day in a very unique way at TSSDC Pune. The day started in remembrance of the martyrs in Pulwama attack with a silence for 2 mins in all the classrooms. Facilitators briefed the learners on the Pulwama episode. We organized a Poster competition for the learners with the theme 'LOVE'. The learners came up with beautiful ideas of expressing love for their parents, siblings, friends, pets, hobbies, teachers and our country. The winners of the contest was BDE30 Batch, who expressed their message of love giving a tough competition to all the other contestants. All the Posters were put up on the Center Board for viewing. As the day proceeded, our distinguished guest, Col. Kishore Jadhav addressed our learners and narrated a real life story of the brave 2 Lt. Arun Khetarpal and infused the feeling of patriotism and love for the nation among the learners. Well the day didn't end there the next programme for the day surprised all the employees as we received beautiful messages from our ex colleagues. An atmosphere of nostalgia enveloped us as we heard them speak. The day concluded with music, songs and fun by all the staff members. In the end I would like to sum up with the following quote, till we meet again! “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one come to you without leaving happier”- Mother Theresa.

MY STORY Tejaswini hails from Pune. She belongs to SC caste category. She belongs to a family of four. Her Father is Policeman and mother is a homemaker. Her house is about 10KMs from the Centre. She had completed her 12th Board exam, and was looking for a job. Tejaswini is the eldest daughter among siblings. She is Jovial, focused and social.
Tejaswini Kamble Course: Retail Sales Associate Batch: Retail Sales Associate_0032 Employer Name: Shopper’s Stop Designation: Customer Service Associate Salary: INR 1.4 LPA
She learnt about Tata STRIVE while participating in Pashan Job fair. Tejaswini was a sincere learner and had 96.43% attendance. Her overall grade was ‘B’. She completed her OJT in Shopper’s Stop and she got placement at the same place. From the beginning, she came across as a jovial and social learner. She participated in all the class activities and shared her inputs wherever necessary.. At work, she was the first on her floor to sell a Black Card (A Shopping Card) to the customer & entire floor applauded for her. She received recognition and appreciation for her product display techniques and quick learning attitude and several times. Her boss tells others to learn the technique from her. In January this year, she won appreciation letter for best visual merchandising. She learnt about Customer Handling, Team Work, Relationship Management, patience, confidence building at Tata STRIVE, which is often useful at her workplace. At her work she enjoys, Visual Display, Selling, and Customer Interactions. She enjoys the competition and learning opportunities that she gets at work. She misses her Classmates, Rapid-fire rounds conducted at the beginning of each classroom sessions, and various activities at Tata STRIVE. When Shopper’s stop conducted 15 days training for new joiners, she used to bring her classroom notebook to training and used to give all the answers as everything she had already learnt at Tata STRIVE. That helped her to create good impression in front of her team.

KALAM SE COLUMN TAK WHEN ALL OF THIS IS OVER‌ This, the unfortunate situation that we are in right now, is a blessing in disguise for some while it is hell on earth for the rest. Trust me, there are people who are more than happy that they were quarantined at home and have absolutely nothing to do for many days. Then there are the ones who themselves got affected by the virus in some way or the other, I hope they all get well soon. Snehal Darwatkar Facilitator-YDM
Now, for me, I wish this virus went away in a blink of an eye. I wish it were that simple. I really do. I do not want to get into technical details here about COVID19. You probably have read a lot about it by now.
I just imagine myself at the end of the tunnel where I finally find the light I was running after where this virus has been eradicated for good and we all move on with our lives like this virus was just a bad dream and again we get on with our jobs, business, hobby, passion, etc. I cannot wait to get on with my daily life like before. However, this self-isolation got me thinking about how much we all are addicted to so many things that we actually took for granted when we had them. Like Breathing? You cannot even do that without being cautious around people. Touching our own face. Who would have thought that it was going to be a thing to not having to touch your face or you might end up dying! Cannot order food from outside or go to a restaurant because, well, we might be too tired or lazy to cook food by ourselves. Did you ever imagine that we will be facing such a situation where everything is restricted and we cannot avoid any of those restrictions because, guess what? YOU MAY END UP SAYING GOODBYE TO LIFE! Also, this is the best time to show your humanity by helping each other, however, there are some inconsiderate humans who are trying to take undue advantage of lockdown by making people pay more for goods and services. Makes my blood boil in no time. So, I think, in my opinion and in non-offensive way that every person on this planet needs to be cautious going forward. Cautious about what you ask? Well my friend, be cautious about the choices you make. Whether your choices are adding to beneficial sustainability of our environment or even the livelihood of our future generations. Be aware about your surroundings and be aware that your wrongdoing or bad choices will make an impact. If you get time then do read about 'The butterfly effect'. In short, it is about how the flapping of a butterfly's wings would indeed cause a tornado somewhere. Our choices and actions are somewhat doing the same to us, our environment and that leads to the well-being of our planet and species that lives on this planet. I hope we all comprehend the severity of the situation we have landed into by our own wrong doings as humans and take precautions that we do not want to repeat the mistakes for our own benefit, again. A small change can make a lot of difference that you might not even anticipate. Think about it. And do let me know about what you think. In Collaboration with

MY SKILL STORY During this lockdown majority of time I spent on work. I got frustrated because we are not habitual to this culture of working. It is quite difficult to manage work and multiple timeline and not having the visibility of other people.
Shiladitya Samaddar Lead OE & SME Hospitality
Besides this every one has different skills, hobby that we enjoy, brings us joy and enriches our lives. It gives us some fun to do during our leisure time and offers us the opportunity to learn new skills. If I talk about my skills, I love to spend my time on cooking, reading books and also I have enrolled myself for some online courses to improve my knowledge.
I spent most of my me-time in the kitchen, as professionally I am a chef. I tried new different dishes always. So many times I called my friends and family for a party at my place and I cook for them. Rather than cooking same dishes, I always like to make something new. My favourite dish is Chole Bhature and in dessert, Pavlova. I have always liked going out to eat. My favorite restaurant is- ITC Maurya, New Delhi. As I mentioned about reading, I read so many things other than my study material. Like something related to my nature my skills like books on hospitality, economics. Books like ‘uncommon service’ on Harvard Business Review, India's most fearless, Khaki files, Business classics What the economy needs now. My fav books are Art of war and Wisdom of failure. I like reading Shiv Aroor, Rahul Singh & Raghuram Rajan. In Collaboration with
WRITERS BLOCK CAREER IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY
Apurva Fursule Facilitator Beauty Advisor
We have a 1300-year-old history of cosmetics, there are tons of documented instances of some kind of cosmetic being used in the form of rituals all over the world. Maintaining beauty has never faded away, there has been a quick growth in the beauty industry in last 10 years in India. The cosmetics and personal care industry is one of the fastest growing consumer products sectors which has shown a continued strong growth, with increasing shelf space in retail stores and Salons. Nowadays consumers are ultimately seeking better lifestyle and hence new products and ingredients opening doors for new type of beauty brands. Entering into Beauty Industry is not so challenging, you only need to have basic qualification and the desire, It’s never too late to join beauty industry as there are no barriers like Language or age. There are numerous courses under Basic, Advances, Personal grooming, diploma, Degree etc offered by different institutes. At the same time, you can enter this industry by selecting your favorite field. You can chose to be a hairdresser, Beauty therapist, Beauty specialist, cosmetologist, Beauty Advisor, Beauty Blogger, Nail Professional and licensed Makeup Artist etc. Well to start with, Cosmetics are primarily categorized into five major categories heads - Body care, Face care, Hair care, Hand care and color cosmetics. As per the studies, India has seen tremendous growth of modern organized retail channels like department stores, many international brands like Revlon, Avon, L’Oréal, Body Shop, Maybelline New York, MAC, Bobbi Brown and many more have made their space in the Indian market. Today many women with their sheer willpower have created opportunities for themselves and others too. Today so many actors and women entrepreneurs like Katrina Kaif (Kay- Celebrity beauty brand launched with Nykaa), Lara Dutta (Ariasbrand launched with Scentials), Shahnaz Husain (Founder and managing director of The Shahanaz Husain group), Falguni Nayar (Founder and CEO of Nykaa) are successful achievers who have set an example for other women and Men both. No other industry has such a constant demand for qualified, creative, welltrained graduates. None offers such bright opportunities for an individual to start a personal business and work toward financial independence. Everyone has a desire to look good and the need of beauty advisor here to stay. Would like to sum up my article with these lines. “Lipstick is more than just a stick and not going away any time soon, this red cream has magnetic power, keeping girls hypnotized.” In Collaboration with
COVER TRAIL International Women’s Day International Women's Day is celebrated on the 8th of March every year around the world. This year, International Women's Day occurred on a Sunday and hence we celebrated the day on 7th of March. I feel it is all about the celebration of Respect, Appreciation, Love and Care towards women in our life and in the society. The theme for International Women's Day 2020 was “I am Generation Equality. Realizing women's rights”. Day started with a Guest lecture on "Challenge, Struggle and Victory of women pursuing different professions" by Rakhi Sonawane from Tata communications. Then it was followed by another guest lecture on "Daily Nutrition for health" by nutritionist Lalita Khandagare, who gave very reliable and easy-to-understand information about nutrition to all our women folk at the Center. The most interesting event of the day was the Ramp walk by learners from Assistant Beauty Therapist. The girls showed different saree draping styles indicating different regions & traditions. We could see the glow in their eyes for getting to experience a ramp walk for the first time in their lives. The day ended with some performance by the learners of all batches. Learners from BDE presented a skit showing today's women and their problems. Learners from ABT and AAD show their respect and love by their dance and singing performance. Other BDE batch learners gave presentation on government schemes for women to increase awareness. In the section of show your creativity learners showed their skills by presenting charts, sketches, craft and paintings. Guest session by Rakhi Sonawane
