strive@pune The Facilitators have moved from the Classroom to a Virtual training mode. This is a huge shift from ‘what we have been doing’ to ‘what the future is going to be!’ As the days pass, the future unfolds, there is an unseen change which is happening in the mindset of the youth, the Mobile turns into a learning & then may be eventually an earning tool for the learner. We are part of a history in making and it is going to be an interesting journey for all of us at Tata STRIVE.

From Editors Desk
Hi! The times of COVID19 has opened up many other avenues of communication, opportunities of business / entrepreneurships and most importantly our approach to handling change. On one end, we are to adapt to the changes around us and on the other, being Safe both mentally & physically is the need of the hour. Our Safety team is geared up for the Center re-opening, which would happen once the State authorities issue such notices. And, now some good news. After around 90 days of lockdown since 16thMarch, we began our online batches with BFSI from 15th of June. While this edition goes into publishing, we have enrolled 92 learners across three batches of BFSI & 1 of Android. It is encouraging to see the Batch going full swing with 90%+ plus participation every single day. We cover a synopsis of these batches in the pages.

It is that time of the year again albeit under Lockdown when last year few of our colleagues from Pune Center went to the Sinhgad Fort and planted saplings on the hill. In addition, many of us did our bit in the vicinity on the World Environment day. This edition of strive@pune, we are introducing a new section ‘what’s new?’ where in you get to read about latest happening around you. All this & more in the pages.

On the other hand At Tata Communications, we do volunteering campaigns every quarter. Considering the current COVID19 pandemic we changed our focus from physical volunteering to virtual volunteering. As part of our first virtual volunteering campaign we also partnered with Tata STRIVE for organizing Mentoring activity for the students from the skill development centers. We have had two rounds of the mentoring sessions and had 45+ volunteers participating in the mentoring activity so far. We have plans to conduct Webinars led by our Leadership teams very soon for the Tata STRIVE Learners. I am sure, these sessions will be very helpful and one of a kind exposure to the beneficiaries.
Harish Kulkarni Assistant Manager - Corporate Social Responsibility Tata Communications
Alumni speak I am Prasad from BDE0180 Batch. I have completed my batch in February. Before completion of the batch, I got an offer letter of HDFC Bank. I joined the bank in March. I just started my work but unfortunately because of COVID19 virus India declared the Lockdown. Because of this I could not complete my training with the Bank. But my colleagues helped me to understand the policies of bank.
Prasad Alhat
From April I started work from home. My core product is Personal Loan but because of lockdown, I got a task to sell so many products like RD, FD & Insurance. But already I had an idea of all these products because in TATA STRIVE course I learnt all these products from so many activities. So I didn't find any challenge in that. During this lockdown, Tata steel has launched so many e - learning courses, I enrolled for that and successfully completed those programs. I got 7 certificates of different course like MS office, Advance Microsoft excel etc. I am sport person and I like Archery, so daily I do the exercise for my archery. So my mind get refreshed. In Tata STRIVE I learnt so many things with this BDE course. And the main thing is that I got my confidence back. Definitely in my life I will do something big and in that contribution of Tata STRIVE will be there. Thanks to Sameet sir, Shruti mam, Suvarna mam, Amrita mam and all TATA strive team .

My story Prashant hails from Pune. As soon as he completed his 12th from Pratap Junior College, his father passed away. The entire responsibility of the family came on his shoulder. He started looking for the right opportunity and to make his own identity. Soon, he came to know about Tata STRIVE from our Alumni. Prashant’s mother is working in the Housekeeping Department at Municipal Corporation and his younger sister is pursuing BSC. Earlier he was in dilemma that which option should he choose in order to earn well, then through Holland Code we were able to identify his interest in the Retail sector. He enrolled for the course immediately after that.

Prashant shares that there was a huge transformation in him. He became punctual, while at home it was a very difficult task for him, here at STRIVE, it was the first milestone achieved. His Confidence level grew a lot, also he learnt team work, he shared all the activities they used to do in the sessions, helped him to understand the importance of team work. Also, a skill he always remembers while dealing with the customers is Active Listening, he shared, this skill helped him to connect with the customers. Prashant did his OJT at the Lifestyle store and shared that he learnt a lot during the OJT about all the sections of the store and gained in-depth knowledge about the products. He got interviewed with Arvind Lifestyle Brands Limited after his OJT and got selected as a Customer Service associate (CSA) with salary of Rs.1.26 LPA in Oct 2019.
After working there for good 3 months he got his first increment of Rs.4500 per month. He shared that was a proud moment for him, and his manager also appreciated him for his hard work and dedication and ultimately referred his name to the Godrej Nature’s basket and at present he is working as an Online Head Associate earning a handsome salary. He sees himself as a Store manager in the next 2 years. He has been awarded with COVID19 Champion as he has worked during pandemic situation too.

My Skill story
I
started painting a few years back and it is
still one of my favourite things to do whenever I get time. I love the different colors that make up a painting. I usually do abstract painting, also I am interested in traditional art forms like Warli and Madhubani and have tried painting using the Warli art form. I do not have any formal training in painting but started painting about 5 years ago. The idea of different colours and strokes coming together to form a painting excited me and I wanted to try and create something that brought out my thoughts through colors. I also write, occasionally. I usually write short poetry and phrases – focused mostly on random every day happenings and thoughts. Writing for me is a way to clear the clutter inside my head when I have too many things to do. Off late, I have started learning the keyboard – it is a little hard to self-learn but then you have to make adjustments.
Of course, I will continue with my hobbies. Probably I will add a couple of more to the list; learning has no end.
Pallavi Barua works at Tata Communications as Sr. Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility and lead manages the Tata STRIVE Project. We managed to get her time to write for strive@pune and got a chance to peep into her artistic side!

Other than these, I love reading – it works as a therapy every time. I enjoy reading short stories, adventure and mystery, historical non-fiction and other fictions. Out of so many authors it is hard to name one, but currently I am reading Saadat Hasan Manto’s Bombay Stories that takes you through 1930’s Bombay. While reading the different stories, I realized that the 1930’s Bombay was not very different from the 2020’s Mumbai; people have the same aspirations, the same struggles and the same hopes for a better future.
What’s new? Building a trusting relationship with the learners is our utmost priority. We believe in going that extra mile to ensure that our learners are happy and doing great in their lives. We started sending emails to our learners to
know about their life and how they are coping up with the life situations, post COVID19. Few
have written back to us about their well-being, the impact of COVID-19 in their lives and even about their working styles, habits, and how have they changed their approach to life. Here are a few snapshots of their responses! We have also taken a small initiative of wishing our learners on their Birthdays. On receiving a Birthday message from Tata STRIVE, they are thrilled with joy and
experience a warm bond with their alma mater. We strive to maintain this unique connection with our alumni reaching out to them as and when possible. This ensures a CONNECT with our alumni and a small message may remind them of the learning they had during their days at Tata STRIVE. The objective is also to keep the flame burning, to refresh their mind; if they feel low or are bogged down with the way things have changed for all of us. They should not feel left out, the learning should stay fresh in their mind always and they should be able to use the learning practically. We are hopeful that a message from us is able to make that difference. - Amrita Fernandes
