Sejal bagged Emerging Personal Banker award at HDFC Bank for FY 2018-19 I was a bit reluctant, my family insisted me to take up the Banking and Financial Services course at Tata STRIVE. Little did I know that this journey would end up with me beginning a job at HDFC something that I always wanted! Tata STRIVE team helped me to improve my technical skills and soft skills and to develop my personality. I am extremely happy with the overall learning and development at Tata STRIVE, and equally humbled with dedication and commitment of the Facilitators. A big APPLAUSE to the whole Tata STRIVE team ! Cheers! -Sejal Meghani (BDE-17 Batch ‘ 2018-19)

From the Desk of Editor Hi Friend, As we surge into the end of summer, which also marks the beginning of the new session for the Schools & Colleges. As the 10th & 12th board results were announced which indicates more opportunity for the aspirants to select a career path for themselves. And at the same time more number of youth who face the predicament of finding a job for themselves in the market. Recent survey reports shared by the CMIE 2019, show the Unemployment Rate (UR) has increased to a sub-7%. Also, the UR in women is higher than that of Men across various age groups during the same period. While we eagerly look forward to more women participation in a male dominated trade like Solar or Electrician, the trend so far still shows inclination towards women dominated courses like Beauty therapist. And a very interesting fact is that higher the education, higher is the % of unemployment which means more work needs to be done for the youth who are graduating and are not taking up jobs or are not being offered enough jobs. While I leave you with the above question, this edition of strive@pune will bring to you news & events in May. This edition also carries an article on Sustainability and as we prepare ourselves for the 1st Batch of Beauty Advisor by L'OrĂŠal, the centre also decks up with more information and News on its walls & boards! Happy reading & keep sharing! - Sameet Joshi

Kalam se column tak Look within, change for good At Tata Strive, sustainability means driving a vision. It addresses the pressing need of skilling India’s youth for employment, entrepreneurship and community enterprise. As an industry leader, TATA group is well placed to leverage its technology based scalable model to empower the youth with the right skills. These skills define the future of our country. TATA Strive has created multiple solutions to deliver high quality training, relevant to youth, in a scalable model targeted at the bottom of the pyramid. When youth with limited exposure move into a demanding or more professional work environment it calls for a very big shift in mindset to be able to meet the desired expectations. We provide life skills to our youth to bring a transformation in their behaviour namely positive attitude, right value system, work ethics. We empower our facilitators by upgrading their skills and competencies which is also essential to drive excellence and quality outcomes. To continue to sustain this program, it is essential to match the interest of the youth with the jobs. Our “Interest Inventory” is a gamified app which is used to screen large number of youth to understand their individual identities and choices. We are continuously working to enhance the features of this assessment tool to also include other aspects of candidate’s personality, value system etc. Technology plays an integral role in enabling our efforts in the direct direction. A robust and fool-proof certification mechanism is central to our assessment and evaluation of the competencies acquired by our learners. One example is involving third party assessors for summative assessments, which helps the learners gain more credibility in the market. We are able to partner with the prospective employers within TATA group of companies and also other organisations by ensuring that the learners are certified only for the competencies that can be truly demonstrated in practice. Shift in mindset of the youth, improving quality of training outcome, empowering facilitators, robust certification process and technology are the key pillars central to sustainability of the model. Creation of well-designed training capabilities and infrastructure from admissions to placements using unique methodology, pedagogy and technology has been instrumental in establishing TATA Strive as a Leader in the Skill Development Sector in India. As the model is also built around systems thinking, it not just addresses the immediate training needs but also the tremendous opportunity to continuously create value for the nation as a whole.

So how does system thinking help us in ACHIEVING OUR GOALS? By being aware that every decision, thought and action may have an impact on the overall vision. This means that Facilitators getting trained is not enoughthey have to believe in the impact of skill development and in the growth of the nation. Similarly, learners need to believe that they are the future and every progress they make impact not just them but many stakeholders around them. Creating new content is not enough, upgrading them from time to time involving the latest updates from both internal and external sources would be the key. Consistent review of our activities and improving at every stage hence is paramount. I am proud to be a part of TATA Strive where sustainability and systems thinking are integrated within the strategic imperatives. Look within, change for good!

Think about it Sustainability is not just about adopting the latest energy-efficient technologies or turning to renewable sources of power. Sustainability is the responsibility of every individual every day. It is about changing our behaviour and mindset to reduce power and water consumption, thereby helping to control emissions and pollution levels.
