Project Inspiration My capstone project was chosen after thoughtful consideration of what means the most to me; my family and friends. Throughout my life I have always loved creating strong connections and building relationships with those I surround myself with. During my life I have been fortunate enough to experience real, tough, yet exceptionally rewarding experiences with the women in my life whom I love. These women are strong, beautiful, hard working, and wonderful; and despite the fact that some of them struggle with mental health issues, it in no way defines them. I have been lucky enough to have my eyes opened to mental health, personally and from afar, and it’s something I strive to encourage women to embrace. That is where my design of a Women’s Health Club comes in. From watching the women around me, I wish I could give them everything they deserve, including a relaxing spa day for pampering and a supportive community of others who can relate to their daily struggles in life and offer encouragement and friendships.

Problem Statement: There’s a general need for spa services for women’s health to help them relax, recuperate, and restore themselves because of daily life. Along with daily struggles, many women also deal with mental health and feel ashamed because they aren’t supposed to show weaknesses. There’s a stigma that surrounds women showing weaknesses and that mental health is depressing.
A Closer Look at Mental Health
Mental Health Statistics: -Mental health is a vital part of society but so many people brush it off. Taking a closer look at the statistics provides people with facts that can be shocking and eye opening. Addressing the facts is the first step in accepting mental health and the reason why Spas are including mental health services. • Nearly 1 in 5 US adults aged 18 or older (18.3% or 44.7 million people) reported mental illness in 2016 • Approximately 1 in 25 adults in the U.S. experiences a serious mental health issue that interferes with one or more major life activities • Almost 7% of adults in the U.S. had at least one major depressive episode in the past year. • Many people with mental health disorders also need care for other physical health conditions. Physical and Mental health go hand in hand and there’s many personal issues people may not know about
Why Maintain Mental Health? • Taking care of mental health is just as important as physical wellbeing • Mental health includes our psychological, emotional and social well-being, impacting how we feel, think and behave every single day. Mental health also contributes to our decision-making process and how we cope with stress • When not handled correctly, managing things like stress, relationships, or work can take a beating without being realized • Emotional and mental health is a vital part of life and impacts thoughts, behaviors and emotions. Being healthy emotionally improves productivity and effectiveness

Physical & Mental Tranquility Background: The Spa service is well known to help relax and treat pains. Every person can benefit from the Spa, but they are more common for women. They are booming across the world with variations of the type of spa; including day trips, weekend getaways, and even overnight spa resorts. Looking closer within the wellness industry, Spas are starting to incorporate more to their businesses to include treatment for all types of issues, including mental health. Statics show that: • Because of mental health, the wellness market has grown tremendously due to successful solutions spas and resorts can achieve • The spa industry is now offering universal wellness through a variety of services to enhance wellbeing across the body, mind and spirit. They include: Helping people deal with issues such as stress, anxiety and fatigue through massage, meditation, yoga Focus on the mental well-being of their guests and offer a wide range of wellness services (wellness services can be counselors) • All of these services provide numerous health benefits; specifically, the physical benefits include: Soothes pains from joint and muscle issues Better quality sleep Releases built up stress tension Decreases anxiety Boosts immune system

Sketch of Mineral Lake
I studied and chose my location based off the 7 lowest ranking states, as the need for care for mental health is most present in them. When deciding which state to choose, I kept in mind that I want businesses to partner with my spa, therefore leading me to choose a state with a very populated city and big companies.

Concept Healing Flowers. Flowers are not only beautiful, but they offer mind and body healing benefits. Between purifying the air, expelling oxygen, the scents they give off, and even health benefits for wounds, flowers are a perfect design by offering comforting effects. Using healing flowers will lead the design with beautiful colors, their form, and structure, all while being peaceful and calming and boasting hope and confidence. *The most popular of these healing flowers are jasmine, lavender, Gerbera daisies, chrysanthemum, geranium, and peace lily *
Concept within Space Planning: The women who will be going to this spa are like flowers themselves, where they need specific resources to help them through daily life. Everything a flower needs relates back to all the services the Spa has to offer to help women grow.

Concept Sketches Abstracting the original shapes of flowers was the main focus with these concept sketches. Several have been applied within the final design in creative ways.

Main Users: Benevolence Spa is dedicated for women, therefore making it an ideal spot for a girls trip. Whether it is a longer day trip or a weekend getaway, the Spa is perfect for all women and provides numerous services to meet different needs.
Partnerships: Lodging The Women’s Health Club does not provide an overnight option with their services but ideally has partnerships with several hotels/bed and breakfasts within the town of Mineral, Washington. These partnerships with lodging allow women the opportunity to make it a girls weekend including more spa time and/or exploring the town. The partnership includes shuttle service to and from the spa along with discounted prices for the rooms.
Businesses More and more companies are addressing the need to support their employees health, in all aspects. Keeping in mind the physical and mental benefits the Spa offers, it is ideal for companies within Washington to also partner with the Women’s Health Club. This will provide outside resources for their female employees. The partnership can allow businesses to offer female employees one, or numerous, weekend getaway packages or a day trip to the spa to maintain their health. Caring and appreciating employees will only benefit work performance.

Pool The community pool is ideal for guests to gather, de-stress, and build relationships and friendships, all while enjoying the stunning view of Mineral Lake. The wooden garage door leads to the back terrace, allowing the two spaces to flow together in the warm weather and allowing them to be separate in the colder seasons. When opened, the garage door is hidden above the wood ceiling, creating a seamless ceiling design. Part 03 - Final Design- Pg. 24
