Business Showcase + Taste of the Town set for May 19

lan to stop by the Mainland City Centre on Thursday, May 19, to visit with an assortment of local businesses as they display products and services available in the greater Texas City-La Marque community. The Business Showcase will be hosted by the Texas City-La Marque Chamber from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., May 19, at Mainland City Centre. This event also will include a special Taste of the Town with food and drink samples provided by local restaurants and caterers. You’ll be able to try foods from all of the new eateries at Mainland City Centre plus others from throughout the area. Entry to the Business Showcase is free. In addition to samples of food and giveaways from area businesses, there will be live music and door prizes throughout the event. There also will be an exciting raffle.

he annual Hurricane Forecast & Emergency Preparedness Business Luncheon will be hosted by the Texas City-La Marque Chamber on from 11:30 am to 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 8 at the Doyle Convention Center. The program will deliver the latest information to the community about the hurricane season and essential ways to prepare and protect your business, home and assets. The featured speaker will be Dr. “Hurricane Hal” Needham of CNC
Catastrophe & National Claims. Other speakers will include Emergency Management professionals from the cities of Texas City and La Marque. In addition to vital information to prepare for hurricane season, this luncheon provides a great opportunity for you to network with local business owners, civic leaders and elected officials. A delicious catered lunch is included. The Chamber recognizes the following sponsors for making the event possible: Houston Hurricane & Security Products, City of Texas City, Eastman, Marathon and TNMP. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available. Tickets and reserved tables are now on sale. Reserved tables for 8 are $250 and individual tickets are $25 for chamber members and $30 for non-member guests. he Anchor Point Family Network champions the future of children by educating and empowering parents because no one is beyond hope. Each year the nonprofit has grown and currently consists of several divisions, including the Hope Family Center, Obria Medical Clinic, Hope House Maternity Home and Excellent Minds Academy. Based predominately in League City, Anchor Point serves all surrounding communities. The Hope Family Center focuses on moms and dads that find themselves in need of support during pregnancy as well as counseling needs for the entire family. Obria Medical Clinic provides well-woman care and STI testing in addition to prenatal care up
to the first two trimesters of pregnancy. Excellent Minds Academy is a specialized trauma-informed private school structured to assist children with learning challenges, behavioral issues, sensory issues, high functioning autism and more. Hope House Maternity Home opened in January and is the newest addition to the Anchor Point Family Network. Since then, it has welcomed three young ladies into the program. They are thriving as they move through the services provided across the Anchor Point Family Network. In 2022, Anchor Point will be ‘Taking the Land’ and is excited to continually grow and reach the needs of the community.

L
eadership Mainland recently held its Education Session. The group toured the College of the Mainland’s new S.T.E.A.M. building that includes the nursing education department, along with the Fine Arts building and the new Student Center/ Doyle Family Administration Building. Participants heard from College of the Mainland President Dr. Warren Nichols and Professor Rocky Barney. The group later toured Odyssey Academy in Texas City and were impressed by the amazing facilities. The session ended with a tour of the Texas City ISD Industrial Trades Center, with tours led personally by students. Everyone was able to see first-hand the successful projects that current high school students are working on in the Industrial Trades Center. Next year’s class forms in December.
