Waiting over as flyovers to open By ALAN HEALY

CORK’S new twin South Ring Road flyovers are set to open to traffic next month. Work is nearing completion on the Sarsfield and Bandon Road Roundabout flyovers following a two-year construction project. Up to 60,000 vehicles every day will be taken off the two roundabouts, vastly cutting down on traffic congestion. It could cut up to 30 minutes off travel times at peak traffic periods. The Bandon Road flyover is already complete, with sound protection barriers and lighting in place. The Sarsfield Road flyover will reach substantial completion before the end of this month. Engineers said the installation of the new surface water drainage network should also reach substantial completion before the end of this month. Surfacing works, erection of public lighting and the installation of sound barriers will then begin and it is still hoped that both the Bandon and Sarsfield Road flyovers will be open to traffic on schedule by

In recent weeks, work has taken place on the approach to the flyovers to install the new overhead gantry signs. These are now in place but lane closures will take place at night, starting tonight, to erect the signage. No major disruption to traffic delays are expected.
