Checkpoints in Kinsale manhunt By ANN MURPHY

CHECKPOINTS were set up in Kinsale last night as gardaí continued their hunt for a man who attacked a teenage girl in the town on Monday night. Gardaí handed out leaflets to motorists who passed through the Compass Quay area between 9.45pm and 11pm last night. They also targeted motorists in the area during the same time on Wednesday night, while door-to-door enquiries are also being conducted in the locality. ● Continued on page two.

Miracle escape as shop is set on fire TWO men broke into a Cork city charity shop and set fire to it while a woman lay sleeping in an overhead apartment this morning. The raiders first targeted a car in a car park behind the shop at the junction of Commons Road and Popham’s Road, and stole some items from it. there. But before leaving the building, they set fire to something in the shop and the blaze quickly spread. The woman managed to raise the alarm herself just after 6.30am.
Gardaí, an ambulance crew and three fire crews rushed to the scene after the woman’s call for help. The woman had managed to escape without life-threatening injuries but was taken by ambulance to the Mercy University Hospital for treatment. One man was in custody today after

the incident. His alleged accomplice remained at large, as gardaí tried to establish the motive for the incident. Gardaí said this morning that one man was arrested at the scene. A forensics examination was carried out at the scene.
