Serving Cork for 120 years Nemo and Army hero passes away “ONE of life’s great gentlemen” — that’s how Nemo Rangers legend Seamus Coughlan, left, was remembered today, writes Ronan Bagnall. The former All-Ireland winning Cork footballer and Army Commandant passed away on Saturday, aged 59. Nemo Rangers chairman, Des McCarthy, said everyone at the club was deeply saddened by Mr Coughlan’s passing. He said: “Seamus was one of life’s great gentlemen. “He served at every level for Nemo — player, club chairman, various committee roles and up

to recently as a selector for our Junior two squad.” Mr Coughlan, originally from Ballyphehane and living in Grange, had been a member of Cork’s All-Ireland winning senior football team of 1973. Part of a golden era of Nemo minors, he went on to become a key member of the club’s first Senior County Championship success in 1972 against UCC and won four other medals, in 1974, 75, 77 and 1983. He served for the last 16 years as the manager of the Cork County Board clubs’ draw. ● See page four and Echo Sport for more.
