30 Xanax By ANN MURPHY

Security Correspondent

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD child was found with 30 Xanax tablets in a school in Cork city. The incident took place on Tuesday in a primary school and parents were alerted by the school about the incident yesterday. Xanax is a tranquiliser which is regularly prescribed for sleep disorders, anxiety and depression. A letter was sent to each child’s parents by the school, advising them of the incident. Gardaí were informed yesterday, but said today the matter is not an issue for them as the tablets are not controlled substances. The Health Service Executive has also been notified. A spokesman for the HSE said today that the executive cannot comment on individual cases. But he said: “If and when an issue of children protection or welfare is reported to the HSE, this is followed up in accordance with the Children’s First guidelines.”
