So small so brave By DEIRDRE O’REILLY

A BRAVE Cork girl isn’t letting her rare condition stop her living life to the full.

Six-year-old Aoibhe O’Connor, on left, who has Mucolipdosis Type II/III or ML II/III pictured with her three-year-old sister, Lauren.

Six-year-old Aoibhe O’Connor from Killeagh weighs 11kg and is just 83cm tall, just over two-and-a-half feet, which is the same as the average one-year-old. She suffers from Mucolipdosis Type II/III or ML II/III, a disease that affects one in 750,000 people — and as far as her parents know she is the only Irish person with it.

But Aoibhe lives life to full despite rare condition

She has a number of physical difficulties but her determined nature ensures it doesn’t stop her from doing anything including playing with her friends in junior infants at Inch National School. To mark International Rare Disease Day today, Aoibhe and her family want to highlight hers, and other lesser known disorders. ● See page three.
