Pres principal’s beer comments under fire

Cllr Brosnan: A lot of parents can’t afford fees

We’re going to make Cork work with e5m

By RONAN BAGNALL

By ALAN HEALY SMART motivated and positive Cork people who have a vision will be given a share of a €5m fund to make it happen. The Cork Foundation — a not-for-profit organisation set up by a group of local leading business and public figures — aims to raise €5m through contributions from the Cork diaspora, Cork-based businesses and philanthropists. It will then loan this money to startup companies. At the launch last night Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney said: “This is a Cork concept that is new, that isn’t available anywhere else in the country and that we are going to make work.” ● See page three for more.

But Councillor Brosnan said: “He is giving the impression that parents who do not pay fees might be choosing to go drinking instead. I think Mr Whyte should withdraw that remark. There are a lot of parents who simply cannot afford to pay fees.” ● Continued on page two.
