Man critical after being hit by car in Youghal A MAN was in a serious condition at Cork University Hospital this morning after an accident in Youghal. The 28-year-old was struck by a car at Upper Strand at around 8pm last night. He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital. The area remained sealed off this morning for a forensic collision investigation.

County areas lack garda cover in cuts
Mallow gardaí have five cars instead of 12 LARGE areas of rural Cork are being left without garda cover because of a lack of garda cars and manpower.

And gardaí say that at least two of the current cars attached to the district are just months away from having to be taken out of the garda fleet
because they will have reached the 300,000 km limit. One source said the traffic corps is regularly left with a personnel carrier, known as a paddywagon, which would not be as high-powered as a regular traffic corps car.
