COMPENSATION of €100,000 has been awarded to the family of a teenager who was killed in a violent car crash in Knocknaheeny almost three years ago. Noreen Dolan, who now lives in Bishopstown, brought the case to the High Court on behalf of herself and her family arising out the death of her son, Cornelius J Dolan, known as CJ, at the age of only 16 in May 2010. Lorraine O’Sullivan, senior counsel for the plaintiff, told Mr Justice Paul Butler that the case against the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland had settled for €100,000. ● Continued on P4.

NEXT year’s local elections for Cork City and County should be postponed until 2015, a former Lord Mayor has said. Councillor Jim Corr, the leader of Fine Gael on Cork City Council, said the elections should not take place until the new boundary between the city and the county has been established. He said that if the election takes place before the boundary is extended then it will not come into effect until the following election which is scheduled for 2019. There have been regular calls for an extension to the city’s boundary to take in areas of Douglas and Glanmire, which are considered parts of the city, but are located within the County Council’s jurisdiction. Minister Phil Hogan is allowing Cork City and County Councils to decide on a new boundary themselves, however Cllr Corr said he fears this work will not be complete prior to the next scheduled for next summer. ● Continued on P4.
