I would take anything.” Mum-of-two Samantha Lees, ULJKW, age 25 from Glanmire, said she is facing homelessness next month because she can’t afford the rent on a private house. She applied for the county council’s social housing list five years ago, but said a mix-up with the forms meant she was only officially put on the list in May last year. It was revealed this week that 60 offers were made to people on the waiting lists for homes in Fernwood, Glanmire — but so far 26 of them have been rejected by applicants. A 19-year-old girl with a history of anorexia died from a heart attack as a result of the eating disorder an inquest has been told. The hearing into the death of Gráinne O’Donoghue, was told she died suddenly on January 4, while watching television at home weighing 6.5 stone. The coroner was informed at yesterday’s inquest in Cork city that the teenager, of Fernlee, Kilnagleary, Carrigaline, had been battling with eating disorders for seven years before her death. However, her devastated father Denis said she had only officially been diagnosed as being anorexic a year before she died, despite her family’s best efforts. Assistant state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster told the inquest that she had died from sudden cardiac arrest associated with low potassium against a background of anorexia and bulimia. She said the right level of potassium should be between 3.7 and 5.2 for the proper ● Continued on page two.

I am desperate to put a roof over the heads of my sons. All I want is a place for them to sleep at night, somewhere we can call home. I don’t care what size it is, or if there is a garden. I’m panicking, because we have nowhere to go from next month. It is disgraceful that there are people on the housing list who don’t even want a house. They are only on the list to get Rent Allowance for private homes. It is clogging up the whole process.
