Work being done to make cannabis grow area safe By ANN MURPHY Security Correspondent

GARDAÍ were today carrying out painstaking forensic examinations at the scene of the underground cannabis operation discovered in Ballyvourney due to the danger involved. The drugs, worth €100,000, were found by gardaí on Tuesday evening in two 40ft containers concealed beneath a mobile home in a clearing in a forest west of Ballvourney on the Cork/Kerry border. It is believed that those behind the operation had to bring in heavy machinery to the remote area to dig out the growhouses. Gardaí were fearful of earth collapsing as they carried out their investigations today. Three men, believed to be from Lithuania, were arrested and are being questioned under drug trafficking legislation. Anger at mortgage increases

HOME owners were today bracing themselves for the stress of further mortgage hikes after AIB announced it will increase its variable interest rate by up to 0.4%.
