Keith dedicates his win to special kids
YOU ARE OUR HEROES
By SARAH HORGAN The Helix
CHARLEVILLE’S Keith Hanley, who was last night declared The Voice of Ireland, has dedicated his win to the children he works with. Keith said he owed it all to students of the Holy Family School near his home, where he teaches hip hop dancing to children with special needs. After six rounds of blind auditions, four battle shows and seven live shows from Dublin’s Helix Theatre, Keith came top of the public vote to win and secure a €100,000 recording contract with Universal Ireland. The 19-year-old said: “I know I probably sound like a broken record but it really is down to the kids. Tributes to Barry By PADRAIG HOARE
TRIBUTES have been pouring in for former Minister of State Dick Barry, DERYH, who died yesterday. The 93-year-old Fermoy man was first elected to the Dáil almost 60 years ago, when he won a by-election in Cork East in June 1953 for Fine Gael. He won eight elections up to 1977 and was a Junior Minister for Health. Mr Barry and his son, Michael, ran an auctioneers firm in Fermoy, while his daughter Myra Barry followed her father into the Dáil in 1979. Current Fine Gael Cork East TDs David Stanton and Tom Barry paid tributes to Mr Barry and offered condolences to his family. Deputy Stanton said: “I remember as a young fellow hearing all about Dick Barry and how he was loved and admired all over the constituency.” Deputy Tom Barry said: “Dick was a gentleman with a powerful intellect who combined local and national politics in a seamless fashion. Dick was a good friend to me.” Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney said Mr Barry had been an “enormously influential figure in Fine Gael in Cork.”
