Fionn Dawson was playing at his home at Coolgreen, White’s Cross, near Upper Glanmire, when a fireplace collapsed on him. Donal Kelleher, chairperson of the Upper Glanmire Community Association, said the community was devastated. “People are absolutely shocked and reeling from this awful tragedy,” he said.
THE parents of a Cork garda were approached by debt collectors after he could not afford to pay €100 for treatment for an injury suffered while on duty. Bandon-based Garda Mary Galvin revealed the case to delegates attending the Garda Representative Association conference in Mayo as an example of how pay cuts have affected gardaí and their families. She was speaking during a debate on the first Croke Park agreement, which included a clause that any cuts to pay and allowances would be a breach of the Croke Park I agreement by the Government. She said: “Members are very distressed. I have a member who is handing back the keys of his house at the moment. The family are well-known and popular members of the community and the entire area is in shock following the tragic death. Fionn was playing at home after a morning at pre-school.
