e28m in kitty but we can’t fix estates CORK County Council is sitting on €28 million worth of developers’ bonds at a time when thousands of residents are crying out for works to finish estates. In one estate in Carrigaline, a giant hole in the road has angered residents because nobody is taking responsibility for fixing it. The local authority has come under fire for its reluctance to draw down bonds — paid by developers as security against completion of estates — to fund works that are needed in hundreds of housing developments across Cork. Residents of these estates are now faced with paying the property tax at a time when they can’t get public lighting, proper footpaths, road repairs or promised landscaping and green areas.
