Crash dad Con dies after 10-month battle Horror UK smash claims third member of family THE North Cork community of Meelin was today rallying around the family of local man Con Twomey who lost his life 10 months after a crash which claimed the lives of his two children.
Elber and Con Twomey, with their son, Óisín, who were involved in a car crash in England 10 months ago. Óisín died at the time and Con passed away over the weekend from the injuries he sustained in the accident.
The removal of the 39-year-old former Meelin GAA player is due to take place tonight, following his death on Friday night from injuries sustained on July 6, 2012, in a car accident in Devon. His 16-month-old son Óisín and his unborn daughter — who was to be named Elber Marie — both died as a result of the accident. The little girl was due to have been born last December. Mr Twomey’s wife Elber was seriously injured in the crash and is now the only survivor. She suffered severe back and pelvic injuries. the accident was 26-year-old Marek Wojciechowski, who had recently begun a driving job with a Torquay taxi company. He also died in the crash. He had left a suicide note and a friend who discovered it notified police. Mr Wojiechowski was married and living in Torquay with his wife and two daughters. Elber was being supported by family and friends today, as the local community prepared for her husband’s funeral. His removal takes place at 8.30pm tonight from Allen’s funeral home in Rockchapel to St Joseph’s Church in Meelin. The funeral Mass will take place at 2pm tomorrow, followed by burial in Clonfert cemetery. His former colleagues in Meelin GAA club are expected to form a guard of honour tomorrow.
