Kids in lucky escape as bus catches fire in tunnel JUNE 5 is not a day that 44 primary school pupils and five teachers from Kilcredan National School in Ladysbridge, east Cork, will forget in a hurry. The group had a lucky escape yesterday when the bus taking them to Páirc Uí Rinn for the Sciath na Scol hurling finals caught fire in the Jack Lynch Tunnel. After the incident the school went on to lose their match by a goal, only to later find out that after a 10-year wait they were chosen as one of 28 schools to be included in a €100m funding package for extensions and refurbishments. The first bus, carrying the team from Kilcredan National School, returned from Páirc Uí Rinn to pick up their ● Continued on page 2.

their voices heard in the current debate because “it is like a battle with Satan at the moment.” She added: “If we don’t stand up for babies, nobody is going to. Life is so cheap at the moment. The basic human right is the right to life.” However, UCC academic and pro-choice campaigner, Sandra McAvoy said the legislation did not go far enough. Bishop of Cork and Ross Dr John Buckley said he would be issuing a pastoral letter on the abortion debate to all parishes in the coming week. ● See pages 10 and 11.

Ms Neville was speaking as she and hundreds of pro-life campaigners from across Cork city and county are preparing to attend a Vigil for Life in Merrion Square, Dublin, on Saturday. The vigil has been organised to lobby against the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill, which allows for abortion in the case of a threat to the life of a pregnant woman, including the threat of suicide.
