Chris Martin, 28, of Adrigole, was killed in the accident near Kelowna in British Columbia on Thursday afternoon. He had been in Canada since early May and was due back early next week. He had gone there to complete a course in deep sea diving, just months after spending time in Sweden working as a commercial diver. Tragically, he died just a day after his friend, Liam O’Mahony of Innishannon, died in a workplace accident in Stockholm, on Wednesday. The pair were connected on Facebook. Mr Martin also lost a friend in another tragedy earlier this year when Castlegregory man Vincent Wyles was fatally injured in an accident on a

fishing trawler off the Old Head of Kinsale in February. His father died in recent years and he is survived by his mother and siblings. Mr Martin had lived in Castlegregory for some time, where he had been an intern in Waterworld Diving Centre. A statement on the centre’s Facebook page said: “Chris was always so full of life and lived it to the full and always so much fun. And if he was your friend, you had a friend for life. The dive industry will be a sadder place without him.” A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said consular assistance is being provided to his family. No funeral arrangements were available at the time of writing.
