Hull to sign loan star Meyler DAVID Meyler’s brilliant form for Hull City in their push towards of the top of the Championship will see the midfielder make a permanent switch from Sunderland this week. The former Cork City midfielder scored three goals in recent weeks for Hull, and played the full 90 minutes in their 0-0 draw away to Blackpool yesterday, which sees them consolidate second in the
SOCCER table in an automatic promotion slot, but seven points off leaders Cardiff. The deal for Meyler’s move will rise to €1.8 million including add-ons, quite a profit for Sunderland who paid just €120,000 to Cork City in July 2008 when Roy Keane was in charge. The 23-year-old initially made his

Hull will further his claims for a regular spot in the Ireland squad, after his first appearance against Oman last September. CORK GAA is today mourning the death of Joe McGrath, who coached county teams in football and hurling and who also steered Blackrock to All-Ireland glory in the 1970s.
He was joint coach with Eamon Ryan when Cork defeated Kerry by a point in the 1983 Munster final with Tadhg Murphy’s famous late goal proving decisive. And five years later the Down native coached Cork to the All-Ireland U21 hurling title, defeating Kilkenny by 4-11 to 1-5 in the final. He was also very involved in setting up coaching structures at national level and was one of the first full-time coaching officers in Cork under the Carrigdhoun banner. The McGrath Cup, which starts at the weekend, was his brainchild back in 1981 for the promotion of
